Azealia Banks filmed an episode of Wild 'N Out this week, and lots of messiness ensued. The outspoken rapper says she "cry baby cried" when the cast started calling her "ugly" and made colorist jokes at her expense. (The show is known for its freestyle battles where guests roast each other) Azealia claims she was ambushed and told not to prepare.

Following her allegations, she took to Instagram to target Nick Cannon and he replied in a post of his own:

She then claimed MTV executives purposely ambushed her because they were Latina and were mad at her for slandering Cardi B:

Guests who were at the taping, as well as cast and crew, denied anyone made colorist jokes against Azealia and say she cried after being called ugly because she couldn't think of a retort:

-It was previously reported by Grace Randolph that the BoP lineup would be Harley, Black Canary, Huntress, Lady Shiva, and Cassandra Cain with David Cain being the big bad but apparently she got some tiny things wrong.

-The line up apparently will not have Lady Shiva but Renee Montoya instead (who is better known as The Question 2.0) and David Cain will not be the villain of the film.

-Barbara Gordon who founded the Birds of Prey and has been with the team for the past 15+ years will not be in the film since Harley doesnt need the competition.

Johnny Depp and His Ex-Managers Settle That $25 Million Lawsuit Over Who Lost All His Money

$

Johnny Depp and the ex-business managers he was suing for $25 million (and who were countersuing him for repayment of a $5 million loan they said they made to him) reached a confidential settlement agreement over the weekend. Papers are expected to be filed over the next few weeks dropping both original claims.

Depp was alleging that he is broke because The Management Group mishandled his $650 million career earnings, and TMG was claiming that he has only himself to blame because of his out-of-control spending on massive amounts of wine, private planes, shooting dead friend's ashes out of cannons and other mundane stuff like that.

The case was set to go to trial on August 15 and would likely have featured even more embarrassing revelations than came out in that debacle of a Rolling Stone story that he and his Putin-connected lawyer/new best friend set up to promote Johnny's side last month (they didn't tell Depp's longtime publicist they were doing it, and Depp spent several days with the reporter smoking hash, getting drunk and largely coming across like an irresponsible manchild completely lacking self-awareness).

Depp's representatives released a statement today saying:

“Following the settlement, Johnny is pleased to be able to revert his full attention to his ongoing artistic endeavors, notably the second leg of the sold-out Hollywood Vampires global tour and the exciting launch of JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which will be released in theaters in November this year.

Johnny extends his most sincere thanks and appreciation to the true supporters that have shown their loyalty to both him and his family over recent years.

A member of the Walking Dead crew was injured by fireworks on the Fourth of July, and someone set up a GoFundMe asking for $7,418 to offset the costs of him having to miss work. Alanna Masterson, who plays Tara, tweeted out a plea to fans to donate that was retweeted by Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) and executive producer Scott Gimple.

While many fans jumped at the chance to help (and quickly surpassed the set goal), others were incensed to be asked to give money by TV stars (the only recognizable names from the show who donated on the GoFundMe page are exec. producers Gimple [$2,000] and Tom Luse [$500] and actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan ['Negan', $500], Khary Payton ['King Ezekiel', $500] and Masterson [$250]):

The R-rating for 'Eighth Grade' prevents its target audience from watching a movie that's about them

$

  • Bo Burnham's coming-of-age indie drama Eighth Grade was given an R-rating for language (the f*word is said five times) and the protagonist at one point gets her crush's divided attention by saying she's good at oral sex despite never having done it. The character tries to research oral sex by watching a YouTube tutorial, but she can't even make it through a few seconds of the video before getting grossed out.
  • The movie isn't a teen version of an adult sex comedy, though. It shows a teenager who is not ready to be having sex for social acceptance.
  • Parents with kids won't want to watch Eighth Grade because it will make them "cringe" or make them have to have awkward conversations with their children (ones they don't want to have with them to begin with).
  • The movie doesn't feature anything that isn't probably already depicted/talked about in the average middle school sex ed films. It does, however, bring up important topics (social media, nude selfies, the pressure to have sex) that educators are just too uncomfortable with to discuss with teenagers. The reviewer thinks the movie could be a good teaching aid for adults that feel that aforementioned way.
  • Since the movie is rated-R, the target audience will probably have to sneak in to see the movie or watch it later alone, rather than with their parents.
  • The reviewer thinks the MPAA should reconsider its standards for ratings, especially for a movie like this one. A lot of parents take their kids to PG-13 movies that are actually violent yet they feel they are "less awkward" to watch with their children.

Is the MPAA ridiculous, ONTD?

While promoting his new Broadway play, Armie Hammer revealed what 'fans' ask him to autograph at the stage door. Here's the transcript for those who don't want to suffer through the video above. This is in reference to one of his previous movies, the Oscar-winning 'Call Me by Your Name'.

Armie Hammer: “The first time someone ever handed me a peach, I was like, ‘Oh, thanks.’ And they go, ‘No, no that’s not for you, will you sign it for me?’ I was like, ‘You want me to sign a peach? They’re like, ‘yeah!’ And I’ve got a Sharpie in my hand and I said OK. I sign it and as I hand it back, I go, ’You’re not going to eat that, are you? I mean, there’s Sharpie on it.’ And they go, ‘No!’”

What a fucking waste of peaches (which are gross anyway but still).

ONTD Original: Books to Look Forward to in the Second Half of 2018

$

0

Every year is packed with new book releases and it's hard to keep track of everything. But OP is here to help. Here are some of the most anticipated books coming out in the second half of 2018: a mix of thrillers, literary fiction, historical romance, non-fiction, fantasy and more. There's (hopefully) something for everyone.

JULY

Spinning Silver (Naomi Novik) - Fantasy - This has actually been out for a few days so lucky for you, you don't have to wait any more to read it!! A fantastic retelling of the Rumpelstilstkin fairy-tale, mixed in with Novik's own wonderful imagination.

Give Me Your Hand (Megan Abbott) - Mystery, thriller - Two former friends find themselves locked in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse that threatens to destroy them both.

The Incendiaries (R.O. Kwon) - Contemporary fiction / literary fiction - A shocking novel of violence, love, faith, and loss, as a young woman at an elite American university is drawn into acts of domestic terrorism by a cult tied to North Korea.

AUGUST

The Colour of Time: A New History of the World, 1850-1960 (Dan Jones, Marina Amaral) - History / Non-fiction - Brazilian artist Marina Amaral brings colour to iconic photographs of the most celebrated moments and personalities in modern history. Each image is accompanied by a text by historian Dan Jones, telling the stories behind them.

The Winter of the Witch (Katherine Arden) - YA Fantasy - The very anticipated 3rd (and last) book in the captivating Winternight series.

Washington Black (Esi Edugyan) - Historical fiction - Washington Black is an eleven-year-old field slave who knows no other life than the Barbados sugar plantation where he was born. When his master's eccentric brother chooses him to be his manservant, Wash is terrified of the cruelties he is certain await him. But Christopher Wilde, or "Titch," is a naturalist, explorer, scientist, inventor, and abolitionist. He initiates Wash into a world where a flying machine can carry a man across the sky; where two people, separated by an impossible divide, might begin to see each other as human; and where a boy born in chains can embrace a life of dignity and meaning. But when a man is killed and a bounty is placed on Wash's head, Titch abandons everything to save him. What follows is their flight along the eastern coast of America, and, finally, to a remote outpost in the Arctic, where Wash, left on his own, must invent another new life, one which will propel him further across the globe.

Flights (Olga Tokarczuk) - literary fiction - Winner of the Man Booker International Prize 2018. Through brilliantly imagined characters and stories, interwoven with haunting, playful, and revelatory meditations, Flights explores what it means to be a traveler, a wanderer, a body in motion not only through space but through time.

The Silence of the Girls (Pat Barker) - Literary fiction / retelling - From the Booker Prize-winning author of the Regeneration trilogy comes a monumental new masterpiece, set in the midst of literature's most famous war. Pat Barker turns her attention to the timeless legend of The Iliad, as experienced by the captured women living in the Greek camp in the final weeks of the Trojan War.

The Governess Game (Tessa Dare) - Historical romance - Tessa's books are always a lovely treat. In this installment of the Girl Meets Duke series (which you don't have to read in order), a governess attempts to mend the ways of the libertine Duke who is the guardian of the two wild orphan girls who are her charges.

Foundryside (Robert Jackson Bennett) - Fantasy - In a city that runs on industrialized magic, a secret war will be fought to overwrite reality itself-the first in a dazzling new fantasy series.

SEPTEMBER

Transcription (Kate Atkinson) - Historical fiction - From the Costa Award winning author of Life After Life and A God in Ruins. Juliet Armstrong is recruited as a young woman by an obscure wartime department of the Secret Service. In the aftermath of war she joins the BBC, where her life begins to unravel, and she finally has to come to terms with the consequences.

The Real Lolita: The Kidnapping of Sally Horner and the Novel That Scandalized the World (Sarah Weinman) - true crime - Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita is one of the most beloved and notorious novels of all time. And yet, very few of its readers know that the subject of the novel was inspired by a real-life case: the 1948 abduction of eleven-year-old Sally Horner.

The Spy and the Traitor: The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War (Ben Macintyre) - non-fiction - The celebrated author of A Spy Among Friends and Rogue Heroes returns with his greatest spy story yet, a thrilling Cold War-era tale of Oleg Gordievsky, the Russian whose secret work helped hasten the collapse of the Soviet Union.

OCTOBER

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Mackenzi Lee) - YA Romance - Sequel to The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. Felicity Montague just wants to be a doctor - instead, she finds herself on an adventure with the daughter of a notorious pirate queen that will lead her from the German countryside to the promenades of Zurich to secrets lurking beneath the Atlantic.

The Witch Elm (Tana French) - Thriller - Tana French steps away from the Dublin Murder Squad with this standalone thriller. Toby is a happy-go-lucky charmer who’s dodged a scrape at work and is celebrating with friends when the night takes a turn that will change his life – he surprises two burglars who beat him and leave him for dead. Struggling to recover from his injuries, beginning to understand that he might never be the same man again, he takes refuge at his family’s ancestral home to care for his dying uncle Hugo. Then a skull is found in the trunk of an elm tree in the garden – and as detectives close in, Toby is forced to face the possibility that his past may not be what he has always believed.

I Am Behind You (John Ajvide Lindqvist) - Horror - From the author of Let the Right One In. Molly wakes her mother to go to the toilet. The campsite is strangely blank. The toilet block has gone. Everything else has gone too. This is a place with no sun. No god. Just four families remain. Each has done something to bring them here - each denies they deserve it. Until they see what's coming over the horizon, moving irrevocably towards them. Their worst mistake. Their darkest fear. And for just one of them, their homecoming.

Melmoth (Sarah Perry) - Literary fiction - From the author of The Essex Serpent. Helen Franklin, working as a translator in Prague, she has found a home of sorts—or, at least, refuge. That changes when her friend Karel discovers a mysterious letter in the library, a strange confession and a curious warning that speaks of Melmoth the Witness, a dark legend found in obscure fairy tales and antique village lore. As such superstition has it, Melmoth travels through the ages, dooming those she persuades to join her to a damnation of timeless, itinerant solitude. To Helen it all seems the stuff of unenlightened fantasy. But, unaware, as she wanders the cobblestone streets Helen is being watched. And then Karel disappears.

Priest of Bones (Peter McLean) - Fantasy - The first in a brand new dark and gritty epic fantasy series, where a crime boss comes home from the war only to find that his businesses have been stolen from him.

NOVEMBER

My Sister, the Serial Killer (Oyinkan Braithwaite) - Thriller - Satire meets slasher in this short, darkly funny hand grenade of a novel about a Nigerian woman whose younger sister has a very inconvenient habit of killing her boyfriends.

Nine Perfect Strangers (Liane Moriarty) - Contemporary fiction - Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? These nine perfect strangers are about to find out...

The Other Miss Bridgerton (Julia Quinn) - Historical fiction - If you read historical fiction, you know who Julia Quinn is. This is the third in the Rokesbys series, which is really a prequel to the Bridgerton series, but don't worry, you don't have to read them in order. - Adventurous Poppy Bridgerton stumbles into a smuggler's cave while holidaying on the Dorset coast, and ends up kidnapped by pirates. The captain - actually the son of an Earl - didn't ask for this, but now they seem to be stuck together on a voyage to Portugal.

Skyward (Brandon Sanderson) - Sci-fi, YA - Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race are trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible—assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

Fire and Blood: A History of the Targaryen Kings from Aegon the Conqueror to Aegon III as scribed by Archmaester Gyldayn (George RR Martin) - Fantasy - Did you want The Winds of Winter? Hahahaha! Have another history of the Targaryens instead.
