Elton John is 'sad' over Russia anti-gay law
Elton John has urged Russia to end discrimination against gays as he performed at a concert in Moscow.
The British singer said he was "sad to learn" of a law banning the "propaganda of homosexuality" to minors.
The loosely-worded law can be used to ban gay rights events, critics say.
Sir Elton became the first major Western star known for his support of gay rights to play in Russia since the law was signed by President Vladimir Putin in June.
Last year, both Madonna and Lady Gaga used concerts in Saint Petersburg to speak out against similar local legislation.
'Obliged' to perform
The singer reportedly interrupted his Friday show to voice his concerns about the legislation.
"In my opinion, it is inhumane and it is isolating," he was quoted as saying.
The concert was dedicated to Vladislav Tornovoi, a 23-year-old man tortured and murdered in the southern city of Volgograd earlier this year, Russia's Interfax news agency reports.
Sir Elton will play a second Russian concert in the Volga city of Kazan later on Saturday.
Russian promoters, SAV Entertainment, had earlier insisted the two concerts would "go ahead as planned" despite concerns over the country's crackdown on gay rights.
"Despite the groundless rumours spread by the internet and media that Elton John's concerts in Russia could be cancelled, the organiser assures you that Elton John's shows in Moscow and Kazan will go ahead as planned," they said.
Elton John publicly said he was gay in 1988 and is in a civil partnership with David Furnish, with whom he has two children born to a surrogate mother.
In September he told The Guardian that he felt an obligation to perform in Russia so that gay men and women living there did not feel like they were in "an isolated situation".
"As a gay man, I can't leave those people on their own without going over there and supporting them," he told the newspaper.
"I don't know what's going to happen, but I've got to go."
Gay athletes welcome
In Russia, groups such as the Union of Orthodox Brotherhoods and the Ural Parents Committee have publicly spoken out against Sir Elton performing in the country, either through a petition or a letter to Mr Putin.
Russia decriminalised homosexuality in 1993, but its medical institutions continued to class homosexuality as a mental disorder until 1999.
A survey by Levada independent polling centre in March found that 34% thought homosexuality was an illness that should be treated.
With next year's Winter Olympics due to be held in Sochi in Russia, the current law has attracted attention around the world.
However Mr Putin said in October that gay "athletes, fans and guests" would be made to feel welcome during the games.

Leonardo DiCaprio 'spotted kissing mystery brunette at nightclub' (while Toni Garrn is away)
But Leonardo DiCaprio was allegedly getting cosy with another woman at a Miami club in the early hours of Friday morning while his love interest was thousands of miles away.
The 39-year-old actor was seen reportedly 'passionately kissing' a brunette at the W Hotel's Wall Nightclub during the city's annual Art Basel event.
According to the NY Daily News, the Oscar nominee was seen locking lips with a 'super-young' woman just before 3:30am.
'The encounter was getting pretty hot,' the source added.
But a friend of Leonardo's told the paper that the girl was just showing him appreciation for buying her boyfriend's art.
Leonardo's 'good friend’s girlfriend was kissing him on the cheek because he bought a piece of art from him,' said the friend. 'She was kissing his face like crazy because it was a huge deal.'
But the previous insider insisted something more was going on.
'He was super into her,' said the source, who also added that Leonardo was smoking electronic cigarettes throughout the night.
Leonardo's rumoured girlfriend is 21-year-old model Toni Garrn, who was in St. Barts up until Friday.
'Just another 3:30 a.m. hangout #jetlag #planeprep #Stockholm #St. Barths,' Garrn wrote alongside an Instagram photo of herself in gym gear on Wednesday.
The pair met in May and spent part of the summer sailing around the Mediterranean together.
But they were said to have cooled their relationship, until they were spotted attending a Kanye West concert together late last month.

Kim Richards Slams Lisa Vanderpump: "Now That I’m Sober I See She Was Never My Friend!"
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star opened up to Bethenny Frankel about the drama on the West Coast and said that now that she is feeling better she knows who her real friends on the show are, and the British Diva isn’t on that list.“I don’t think the audience has seen really Lisa’s stuff yet,” Kyle Richards’ sister told the talk show host.
“I think that as the season unfolds they will see really what Lisa has done to some of us. I think Lisa has a way about her where she comes off very sweet and kind to all of us.
If she is really my friend then she would come to me off camera and say to me, call me and say to me, ‘I’m here for you.’ Be a friend but instead she would do it on camera and come to me on camera, ‘Let’s talk about things.’
It’s like, ‘Lisa, I don’t want to talk about things, pretty bad night for me, seriously.’ ‘Seriously, darling if you want to talk about things.’ Cameras rolling, fans to see. I think is she really my friend? Is Lisa my friend?”
Kim made the brave decision to enter rehab getting sober helped open her eyes.
“But when I wasn’t well I couldn’t decipher and all of a sudden I am getting more well and I am like hey, wait a minute, girlfriend you are not my friend. I so see what you are doing. She’s letting the audience think she’s my friend when clearly she was just dragging all my stuff out for the world to see more and more.”
However, Kim says that the friendship gestures all happened while Bravo was filming.
“But where did the phone call come in for Kim as a real friend? There was never one. There were no off camera calls to check on me, there was never a real friendship there and that’s the kind of stuff she’s done to all of us. I think that more and more of that will unfold and you will see the little snide things that she does. She’s just never been a real good friend to me and that’s okay, she doesn’t have to be. I’m over it, I’m over the things she’s done, like pulling out the magazines out of Brandi’s bag, ‘Oh, ooooh my.’ There are little things that you will see that will happen over this season that her true colors will show.”

The world has lost a great man, as Nelson Mandela passed away on December 5 at the age of 95. And several of our favorite reality stars are taking a moment to remember him.
Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa Giudice and Caroline Manzo both took to social media to share their thoughts on his sad passing.
"Sad to hear the passing of Nelson Mandela today, such a true inspiration," Teresa writes. "May angels lead this amazing man in."
Meanwhile, Caroline posted a quote from Mr. Mandela: "'I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear' - Nelson Mandela RIP."
We love that both of these ladies paid their respect to the former South African president who once served 27 years in prison before focusing on putting an end to apartheid.
Other Real Housewives stars remembered Nelson Mandela as well. "The world has lost a great man," Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore tweets on December 5. "President Mandela changed lives, changed minds and changed the world. Freedom is never free. #Mandela."
Joanna Krupa has always been a vocal advocate for animals. On the show, she revealed that she often adopts animals and keeps them at her home so they have a loving home. And she is often speaking out against people who are wearing fur. But she isn’t just spreading the word at parties. Now Joanna Krupa is now going after the Kardashians because they are selling fur.
"I helped organized a protest against the Kardasian-owned Dash retail clothing store for their selling of a fur vests earlier this year," Joanna says. "That turned out successful and they stopped selling fur!"
Of course, the Kardashians have often made headlines over their fur-wearing ways. Khloe Kardashian once posed for PETA, while her sister Kim was sporting fur. But Khloe cut ties with PETA after Kim was flour-bombed on a red carpet because she had worn fur.
"I was always a huge animal lover, but it wasn’t until 2005, when I saw a life-changing video of the fur trade and how innocent animals suffer," Joanna explains. "It was after that video that I essentially became an avid animal rights activist." And it isn’t just talk - she is taking action. She started a non-profit organization called Angels for Animal Rescue, and they raise money to help animals in need. "I save those who are truly in need of rescuing," Joanna says. "I am an animal rescuer."

Okay, well I don’t know if Simplicity Hair Oil is the only reason, but clearly her natural hair is full and beautiful.
The response online to the reveal has been positive, with commenters showing love for her natural hair and makeup-less face. We know that her tresses are likely headed back under a weave or wig as we speak, but here’s hoping the curls come out more often.

FRIENDS: What Chandler & Monica Look Like Today
Everybody wanted a love like theirs on Friends and now fans will soon be getting a treat when Mr and Mrs Chandler Bing are reunited.
Matthew Perry had a hug and a smile for Courteney Cox as he joined her on the Los Angeles set of Cougar Town on Wednesday.
The funny man is shooting one episode on the TBS comedy and while the plot has yet to be disclosed, it's a good bet that romance will come into play.
Courteney looked fabulous in blue jeans, a flowery blouse and red jacket, and there were comfy Uggs on her feet.
Her handsome guest star went casual in black jeans and a navy V-necked jumper over a grey T-shirt.
This isn't the first opportunity Matthew and Courteney have had to act together - the raven-haired beauty guest starred on the actor's now-cancelled NBC sitcom Go On in March.
Perry could obviously use a break - his other TV show attempts also ended on the chopping block such as Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip and Mr Sunshine.
It also looks like the never-married star is on the market again after it was revealed in October that he and girlfriend, Masters Of Sex star Lizzy Caplan, have been split for a year and a half.
How Matthew managed to keep that one under wraps is anyone's guess.
Courteney, meanwhile, recently broke up with her Cougar Town co-star Brian Van Holt after less than a year of dating.
She was previously wed to David Arquette for 14 years before their divorce was finalised this year; they have one daughter, Coco, nine.
Cougar Town, which also stars Christa Miller, Busy Philipps, Dan Byrd and Josh Hopkins, is slated to return to TBS on January 7.

Miley Cyrus Twerked On Santa, Grabs A Dancer's Boob
As if twerking on family-friendly holiday icon Santa Claus wasn't enough, of course there was more.
Miley Cyrus proved that there's no such thing as too much in her world when she followed that behaviour up by grabbing a long, tubular candy cane conspicuously nestled between the bearded man's legs.
And - surprise, surprise - the rambunctious 21-year-old was also seen with her hand firmly clasped onto the breast of one of her backup dancers during her attention-seeking performance at KIIS FM's Jingle Ball in Los Angeles on Friday night.
Miley wore her signature high-waisted bikini bottoms and tiny cropped top for the Staples Centre show, with the main difference being that this time is was red and covered in sparkling sequins.
The star slipped into a pair of oversized black bondage inspired boots, laden with chains and complete with an enormous heel.
Showing off her expensive taste and combining that with her questionable appreciation for it, she wore a fluffy Chanel handbag slung over her shoulder as she sang into a candy cane.
During her act, as well as backing her rear into Santa Claus - who incidentally appeared to be drinking a pretend but suspicious beverage of a paper bag - Miley thought it'd be a good idea to grope one of her backup dancers.

Selena Gomez was NOT lip syncing at Jingle Ball!
Selena Gomez got caught up in a bit of a lip syncing scandal at LA’s Jingle Ball over the weekend – but we are here to explain exactly what happened. To make it clear: she was not lip syncing.
Our man Dave Styles also works for KIIS FM in LA, and he was doing all the on stage announcing for the Jingle Ball. He was side of stage when Selena performed, and on Sunday’s show he told us the truth about the incident.
And it all comes down to her in ears, which artists use to listen to themselves sing while they’re performing.
Dave said, “The ear pieces inside - they’re called in ears - they were having issues, I don’t know if they were off or just too loud sometimes. So she had to pull them off. So she couldn’t really hear.
“A lot of people I’ve noticed saying that she lip synced, and I can tell you she did not lip sync. She was not lip syncing. But she did come out and say ‘sorry we’re having audio issues’. The audio issues she was referring to were the in ear things.”
But what about the video that shows her swearing? That did happen, and Dave saw it all.
Dave said, “What happened is, the first song stopped, the lights kind of went quiet for a minute, she walked to the back of the stage and she yelled ‘What the ****!’ And unfortunately that was still on mic. The best part was, after all that, you can clearly tell she’s mad. The lights came back on and she had to smile.”
