Am. Library Assoc. Scrubs Laura Ingalls Wilder's Name From Award Over Racist Depictions in Her Books

0

The Board of the Association of Library Services to Children, a division of the American Library Association, unanimously voted to change the name of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award to the Children's Literature Legacy Medal, following months of debate over what the group has called "expressions of stereotypical attitudes inconsistent with ALSC's core values" in Wilder's Little House books.

The vote was met with a standing ovation from the audience in attendance.

The ALA had appointed a task force in February to study the depictions of Native Americans and African-Americans in the Little House books and prepare a report on what should be done about the Wilder Medal. The task force recommended the name be changed.

The Wilder Medal was first given to Ingalls Wilder herself in 1954 for her series of (somewhat fictionalized) accounts of her own experiences growing up in the 1860s. It is now given every two years to a writer or illustrator who has made a lasting contribution to children's literature published in the United States.

Evangeline Lilly: How She Stays Driven, Serene, Sane & Charitable in the Crazy World of Hollywood

-Only acts when she has to, writes in her free time has had 2 kids since Lost ended.
-Acting isn't her be all end all, sees it as something that has opened up a lot of doors for her.
“In my 20s exercise was about reaching goals in strength, speed, agility, and capability. But the stage I’m in now calls for balance, so I’ve begun stretching a lot more. Stretching relaxes you and keeps your muscles from tensing up, but it also strengthens you. I don’t think I was aware of that before.”
“I’m a strange mix of someone who is quite reclusive [Evangeline and her partner, the father of her two young sons, live off the Hollywood grid, in Hawaii] and comfortable with very little but driven professionally. I don’t need to be famous, but I do have an enormous desire to influence people and connect with them. It gives me satisfaction to know that I’ve touched others.”
"I think this is the hardest time in human history to keep your spirit in your body. We have constant distraction and choice, which can be very destabilizing and get in the way of experiencing life. So it’s important to engage in activities regularly that reunite you with yourself. For some people it’s prayer, reading, meditation, or a breathing practice. For others it’s a dinner party.”
“I’ve done NGO work in Rwanda for 13 years. Writing a book or being in a movie are great, but no one is going to die if I don’t do them. If I drop the ball in Rwanda, it has consequences. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve taken on too much, but I just want to live out as much potential as I can.”

Wood went to McAllen, Texas for the weekend where she personally bought supplies for a shelter where some of the detained refugee children were waiting to be reunited with their parents. "I was buying things that I’ve bought my for my own son. I broke down when I picked up a pair of shoes that I’ve bought for him because it made it so personal."

Wood did not specify how others could donate, but she appears to be working with RAICES Texas an organization currently working to reunite the parents and children that have been seperated by ICE.

She also participated in a 24 hour fast to draw attention to the children who are still being held in cages apart from their parents.

PRIDE Best Of: RuPaul Vlogging in the 80s

Before Trisha Paytas was crying on her kitchen floor, Nelson Sullivan was documenting his life at 5 Ninth Avenue with a camcorder in the 1980s. These prototypical vlogs have gained a cult following for giving a rare glimpse into LGBT life in NYC during the Reagan era. They're especially significant for their early-days footage of now iconic entertainers including RuPaul, Lady Bunny, and the Club Kids.

RuPaul and the gang drive around the city on their way to a Kevin Larmee gallery show. Some kids pop in and throw around slurs and basically get ignored by everyone.

RuPaul and friends hang out at the Jane West Hotel. Notable for Trade laying around shirtless.

"I let these men touch all over me for the money. I'm trying to pay my rent, I'm trying to get a new apartment. And I let all these men touch me just because I wanted the money. Isn't that terrible? What else am I gonna do?"

Are you bad at makeup because you don't need it?

Olivia Wilde
https://instagram.com/p/Bf8It-mnqns

While this list is in no particular order, it seems kind of necessary to place Olivia Wilde first up, as the introduction. That jawline could cut a tree.

Beauty stuff
—Cat eyes and a bit of blush. Never any bronzer on those cheeks 'cause, like, hello.
—Describes herself as an "eyebrow maniac" due to being a victim of the '90s/'00s eyebrow trends.
—Isn't afraid to sport a fringe bang.

Keira Knightley
https://instagram.com/p/BjuPtTFH8hM

Speaking of jawlines... Keira has a naturally chiseled chin and her face is widened by her jaw and cheekbones. And it's awesome.

Beauty stuff
—Keeps those brows combed.
—She's fond of a bold eye, especially for red carpet looks, but mostly sticks to natural looks.

Diane Guerrero
https://instagram.com/p/BfvbQ_BFceC

We're on a roll with these jawlines. Let's keep 'em coming.

Beauty stuff
—Her advocacy for immigration reform being stronger than that bone structure.

Michael Ealy
https://instagram.com/p/BT15xBJBK1I

Mommy-loving queen Michael Ealy normally blesses us with a bit of facial hair knowing we wouldn't be able to handle looking directly at what lies beneath.

Beauty stuff
—Stanning all of the women in his life.

Katie Holmes
https://instagram.com/p/BjEKnJ6npdY

Joey Potter had a qt lil bb face that Katie eventually grew out of to become the supermodel-looking version of Britney Spears.

Beauty stuff
—Health and wellness. She doesn't care for unhealthy beauty standards and views makeup as a fun activity.
—Shiny, shiny hair.

Laura Vandervoort
https://instagram.com/p/BdBYiTInVNM

Laura has, perhaps, a pair of the most intense cheekbones OP has ever seen.

Beauty stuff
—She just has to stand under a strong light, man.
—Or on a pedestal, accurately looking down on all you plebs staring up at those super cheekbones.

Cillian Murphy
https://instagram.com/p/BkX-7UBBUHN

Tom Welling who? Tyson Ritter what? Let me just leave this man right here for you, ONTD.

Beauty stuff
—Being able to have charisma with a trash can.
—Being ONTD's boyfriend since forever.

Rila Fukushima
https://instagram.com/p/BY44INsn9SN

I wanted to refrain from posting any models on this list, but Rila's bone structure is so unique that I couldn't not. Her face is an upside-down triangle with a large forehead and it's incredible.

Beauty stuff
—An intriguing fashion sense worth following.

Bill Hader — Ex SNL/Trainwreck Star's Post-Divorce Misery As A Single Comic

0

(side eyeing the source/also the pic choice lol hmmm)
-Bill Hader recently divorced his wife since last fall, he went through an expensive legal battle (giving his house to his wife/paying spousal support).

-Since he separated from his wife in July 2017, Bill’s been trying to move on from it and try meeting new women.

-He has tried to go on dates, however he just ends up feeling awkward and withdrawn from them. He’s still heartbroken and blames himself thus making dating an embarrassment for him.

-Another big dilemma for him is his daddy situation, since he has three daughters. It’s hard to get on a date and get to know somebody in a normal way because his kids often stay over which makes dating hard.

-Random tidbit: "Hader stayed at the LA area luxury hotel I was the Chef at. I saw him almost everyday for a month. He was always polite and frequently said “good morning Chef” to me unprompted in the guest hallways and always first. After dealing with a countless army of unbelievably entitled “celebrity” guests I can say without hesitation- he’s a cool dude in real life and I back any project he’s attached to."

Source- https://twitter.com/NatEnquirer/status/1008779467190398976

OP Question- Are kids a dealbreaker in a relationship? Or like Bill, do you try to go on dates & just come out of it awkward & withdrawn?
