* I didn't follow the drama around the Sousenkyo this year other than most of the popular girls sitting out. Idk if anything dramatic happened on the Japanese side, but Produce 48 will surely make up for it.
* ICYMI: Everyyear AKB48 does a special election to rank the most popular members of the 48G groups (meaning AKB and all of it's Japanese sister groups-SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48, and STU48). The 46 groups are excluded (for now). This year was the first year where girls from the overseas groups (JKT48 from Jakarta, BNK48 from Bangkok, and TPE48 from Taipei) to participate although JKT48 as a group elected to sit out due to Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr holiday.
* This year marked the tenth anniversary of the Sousenkyo elections.
* As I said before, a shit ton of the popular girls elected to sit out including three time winning LEGEND Sashihara Rino, always a bridemaids Kashiwagi Yuki, and underrated Queen who shoulda been on P48 Yamamoto Sayaka. Members like Watanabe Mayu and Kitahara Rie have graduated or in the process of graduating.

Anyway, Matsui Jurina finally won andMiyazaki Sakura was shook. You can't win them all sis (altho I hope Jurina snatches Produce from Sakura too).

Tommy Genesis features in Oyster Magazine #114, talks debut album and more

Tommy Genesis is featured in the 114th edition of Oyster Magazine, where she discusses her hotly anticipated debut album 'Genesis' and more:

  • After signing with Downtown/Interscope, Genesis felt disconnected from the songs that helped secure her record deal. "I threw out a whole album," she told interviewer Alexandra Weiss. "I was making music with really talented people, but it just didn't feel like who I was anymore. For me, it's always been super important that I'm in charge of everything [...] I want everything to be my vision."

  • Despite her writing style becoming "more colloquial and digestible," Genesis says she will never treat any subject - sexuality, identity, upbringing - as off limits: "I just want to be genuine"

  • She describes 'Genesis' as "a summer album... and a melancholy happiness": "It's not a sad album, but it's not necessarily a happy one either. It's just honest. And this time, it was a lot more about the feeling than it was about what I was saying."

    How TV gave us the classic soccer ball

    When you think of a soccer ball, you probably imagine a classic black-and-white paneled ball. It’s known as the Telstar ball, and it was created thanks to TV.

    The 1966 World Cup in England was broadcast live across the globe and it was at this point that television became a huge part of the sport. Thanks to the BBC, it was seen by four hundred million people. But spotting the ball was a bit challenging.

    Back then, soccer balls looked more like reddish-brown volleyballs. And on black-and-white TVs, it didn’t really stand out from the green field.

    By the 1970 World Cup, the soccer ball had changed to that classic Telstar. The contrasting panels made it stand out on TV. Plus, the players loved it because the 32 panels brought the ball closer to an actual sphere.

    This year’s World Cup ball is called the Telstar 18, a nod to the original design. While the panels have changed to just six propeller-shaped pieces to make the ball even more spherical, the black-and-white checkered design is back.

    AMC Pulls Chris Hardwick, He Steps Down from Comic Con

    In a statement, AMC said while they have a good professional relationship with Hardwick, they are taking the abuse and blacklisting allegations against him very seriously.

    "While we assess the situation, ‘Talking with Chris Hardwick’ will not air on AMC, and Chris has decided to step aside from moderating planned AMC and BBC America panels at Comic-Con International in San Diego next month,” said AMC in the statement"


    Nerdist has also distanced themselves from Hardwick. While Hardwick has denied all accusations, it's been claimed ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra has evidence and former employees and associates have spoken up on Twitter implying abusive and even racist behavior from the Singled Out host.

    After four dates of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour in Latin America, Halsey gears up for the release of her fourth Hopeless Fountain Kingdom single and fifth music video from it.
    Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico were the chosen countries for the Latin American leg of her world tour which finished last night in Mexico City. Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony served as the opening act debuting solo songs from her forthcoming album.

    Patty Hearst Goes to Bat for Son-In-Law Chris Hardwick

    Famed heiress/kidnapping victim Patty Hearst has taken to Twitter to defend her son-in-law Chris Hardwick, who has been pulled from AMC amid claims of abuse made by his ex-girlfriend.

    Chris married Patty's daughter Lydia in a zombie-themed wedding in 2016. Patty herself is best known for having been kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974 and held for 19 months, during which time she was sexually assaulted and psychologically tortured and participated in bank robberies after succumbing to Stockholm Syndrome. She served 22 months in prison before her sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter.

    First, Hearst replied to a TMZ tweet about Hardwick being removed from the Nerdist site that he founded with the words "Bunny Boiler", clearly a reference to Glenn Close's character in the film "Fatal Attraction", who stalked and terrorized her ex and his family. Hearst later deleted the tweet, but not before it was screen grabbed:

    Is horror the most disrespected genre?

    Exploring the term 'elevated horror'

    'Hereditary' joins the ranks of other horror movies like 'A Quiet Place', 'Get Out',
    'The Babadook', and 'The Witch' that people are saying is "elevated horror". The term had been around on message boards for the past decade, but didn't gain traction till Hollywood executives started peddling it to set it apart from other horror films.

    "Post-horror,"smart horror", "horror adjactent"...it asks the question, isn't it all the same thing?? And why the need for distinction?

    John Krasinski, the co-writer and director of "A Quiet Place", told an interview that he wasn't inspired by horror movies per se, but by all these "amazing elevated horror movies," which suggests he means ones that were more critically-acclaimed than others.

    Anne Billson, a novelist and critic, summed up those fans’ feelings in a tweet: “Whenever a horror movie makes a splash... there is invariably an article calling it ‘smart’ or ‘elevated’ or ‘art house’ horror. They hate horror SO MUCH they
    have to frame its hits as something else.”

    April Wolfe, a writer and film-maker, went further: “Gonna freak… out if people don’t stop using the phrase ‘elevated horror’! It’s just horror. It’s OK to say it’s horror! ... I don’t say ‘elevated dramas’ to distinguish which dramas I like and don’t like.”

    Looking at it this way, it brings attention to the film industry's ambivalence towards horror, the genre it can't seem to live with, but can't live without ($).

    People in the industry like Simon Rumley, the cult director of "The Living and the Dead", "Red White and Blue", and "Fashionista", says to the effect that horror can be the most profitable genre. "THe Blair WItch Project" is just one example of that, along with other successes. You don't need big names on your payroll and a loud online presence plus hype can help. 'Hereditary' director, Ari Aster, admits this when he realized a horror movie title - on his list of many movies of different genres to make - might be the easiest to finance.

    This low-budget approach can backfire. "Saw", "Hostel" and the numerous other movies in the torture porn subgenre that followed (inspired by the trend), made bank for cheap but didn't have a wider appeal that would entice an Oscar-winning actor or producer to take on a role or enthusiastically get involved.

    Rumley reminisces of when he used the term "extreme drama" to pitch a film to UK film executive after they told him they don't do horror. Dan Berlinka, a Bafta-winning television writer and horror aficionado, used "chiller-thriller"to pitch a TV show.

    E x o r c i s i n g the stigma

    With these new terms coming out, it sends a message that the rest of the genre is inferior and you can see why horror fans can be mad. The issue doesn't necessarily start and end with snooty critics, it can draw comparisons to indie music fans who complain when their favorite artist isn't popular and complain when they sell out. The horror community in a way likes their forbidden fruit, but in the end, it isn't necessarily a bad thing when films - that all fall under the same umbrella of horror in some way or another - get more recognition and respect.

    • For Pride month, Jason Mraz wrote a poem to the LGBT community. The line "I am bi your side" has fans thinking this was Mraz's way of officially coming out as bisexual after all these years of speculation.
    • Fans have been curious about Mraz's sexuality since a 2005 interview with
      Genre. In it, he spoke of a relationship he had with a gay friend: "It wasn’t until we were out for dinner on Valentines Day that I realised we both we’re having a very romantic time together.     How Mohamed Salah Has United Egypt

    The article discusses how Liverpool/Team Egypt player Mohamed Salah (winner of the PFA Players' Player of the Year, PFA Fans' Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season, African Player of the Year among other awards) has become a national symbol for Egypt in a time of political polarization and instability after the 2011 revolution and the later military coup deposing former president Morsi. After Egypt's qualification for the World Cup Egyptians celebrated in Tahrir Square in an energy like that of the revolution according to one Egyptian sports journalist.

    Observers also note how Salah has avoided any kind of political controversy unlike other iconic Egyptian football players like Mohamed Aboutrika who became associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

    Egyptians like how Salah is proud of his roots, often talking about how much he loves Egypt's famous national dish of koshary (look it up, it's amazing) and gives back to his village, Nagrig, paying for a religious school, a charity market and an ambulance station there, as well as his public piety as he prostrates after a goal.

    Because of an injury Salah did not play in Egypt's first match against Uruguay (which they lost) but Egyptian coach Cuper has hinted that he will play in Egypt's second match against Russia on Tuesday.

    • Odyssey, set primarily in and around 431 BC during the Peloponnesian War, is the furthest back, some four centuries earlier than 2017’s Origins, which took place in Egypt just before the turn of the millennium.

    • There's a large shift towards RPG. Odyssey creative director Jonathan Dumont says the new game “is pushing our franchise into full RPG.”  This will include multiple choice dialogue system, multiple possible endings and even the ability to romance several characters

    • Allows players to choose between being a female (!!!) or male assasin, Kassandra or Alexio, you play that character for the entirety of the game. Playing as a woman in AC isn’t new. People could do that in 2012’s Liberation and in parts of Syndicate and Origins. Choosing which character to play as, however, is new. Dumont chalked it up to wanting to give players as much choice as possible and said it won’t affect how the game plays or wraps up.

    • Character outfits will be far more customisable. The loot system returns, but instead of  one category for wearable gear there are five. Gear is classified by rarity. Each piece of gear can be enhanced with engravings that might increase critical hit damage or fire damage.

    After a month of casually dating/instagram comment fucking/rational timely engagement it looks like Pete and Ariana have moved in together according to her Instagram story.



    Meanwhile apparently Pete and Cazzie David were on a break in early May when his courtship with Ariana began.
