Variety has obtained a video (available at the source) on which Lethal Weapon stars Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford can be heard arguing off-camera.The video was recorded a day after Wayans went home early because he was hit in the head by a piece of shrapnel while filming a scene in an episode that Crawford directed (Crawford has been fired from the show and will be replaced by Seann William Scott next season).
The accompanying article says that
the LW set had become so “chaotic” by season’s end that producers had hired Pinkerton security guards to make sure the arguments between Wayans and Crawford did not turn violent.
On the tape, the two actors can be heard saying:
Crawford: You know, I've seen [name deleted] handle hits better than you did yesterday.
Wayans: Suck my dick
Crawford: I mean, that was the biggest pussy [
inaudible] I think I've ever seen.
Wayans: Yeah, I'm a pussy.
Crawford: A pussy. You're the biggest crybaby pussy I've ever met in my life.
Wayans: Well, suck this pussy's dick.
Crawford: I mean, how does it feel to only be in the game because your fucking brothers are in the game?Wayans: Fuck you, fuck you
Also on the video,
Crawford can be heard screaming about members of the public - reportedly kids around age ten - who are making noise at a public pool where they are attempting to film:
"Shut the fuck up! Goddamnit, Newman, they're right here! Get somebody in here with a fucking walkie and shut 'em the fuck up! Or did we not pay for this place? If we did, shut 'em the fuck up!"Variety’s article quotes
Lethal Weapon crew members as being divided about who was more difficult to work with, Wayans or Crawford. One crew member takes Crawford's side, saying:
“I would rather work every day with an actor who comes in prepared and knows their lines and is passionate about their role and cares about the show gives 150% of his heart and soul into it than someone who comes in every day and says ‘I wish this show was canceled, I hate this show, it feel like I’m in jail,’ even if he ultimately gives a great performance.
It is unbelievably difficult to work with someone who literally tells everyone that he hates what he does every day. And that is what Damon does every day.” Another set insider says that Wayans threatened to have the special-effects team fired after he was hit with the piece of shrapnel.
But a different crew member says “Damon is passive-aggressive. He’s not aggressive-aggressive.” And
other crew members spoke of numerous incidents where Crawford subjected people on set to profanity-laced tirades. And Crawford got into an altercation with Wayans' assistant (when Wayans refused to do any more stunts for the episode after he was injured) that then expanded to include a producer and Wayans himself and had to be broken up by studio security.
