Stephen King's novella 'The Gingerbread Girl' has been optioned by Brainstorm Media. Craig R. Baxley will direct the film from a screenplay written by King and Baxley.

The book's summary:

In the emotional aftermath of her baby's sudden death, Em starts running. Soon she runs from her husband, to the airport, down to the Florida Gulf and out to the loneliest stretch of Vermillion Key, where her father has offered the use of a conch shack he has kept there for years. Em keeps up her running -- barefoot on the beach, sneakers on the road -- and sees virtually no one. This is doing her all kinds of good, until one day she makes the mistake of looking into the driveway of a man named Pickering. Pickering also enjoys the privacy of Vermillion Key, but the young women he brings there suffer the consequences. Will Em be next?

Cate Blanchett, Kristen Stewart, Ava DuVernay Protest Gender Inequality on Cannes Red Carpet

82 women, including Cate Blanchett, Kristen Stewart, Salma Hayek, Marion Cotillard, Patty Jenkins, Lea Seydoux and Ava DuVernay, participated in a protest of women's inequality in the film industry on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival today.

82 is the number of female directors who have had their films entered into competition at Cannes over the past 71 years, compared to 1,688 men.

The women linked arms as they walked up the red carpet, then stopped and stood on the stairs as a symbol of the ladders women must climb to achieve success. Blanchett, this year's Jury Competition President, then read a speech which began:

“On these steps today stand 82 women representing the number of female directors who have climbed these stairs since the first edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 1946. In the same period, 1688 male directors have climbed these very same stairs. In the 71 years of this world-renowned festival there have been 12 female heads of its juries. The prestigious Palme d’Or has been bestowed upon 71 male directors – too numerous to mention by name – but only two women – Jane Campion, who is with us in spirit, and Agnès Varda, who stands with us today.

These facts are stark and undeniable.

Women are NOT a minority in the world, yet the current state of our industry says otherwise. As women, we all face our own unique challenges, but we stand together on these stairs today as a symbol of our determination and commitment to progress."

Last Friday the VP for Student Affairs at Duke University walked into an on campus coffee shop and heard "Get Paid" by Young Dolph come over the speakers and got offended at the coarse language in the song lyrics. He demanded it be turned off (which it was) and that the barista serving him pay for his vegan muffin to apologise for playing the song. By Monday the two staffers on duty at the time were fired. Yesterday (the 11th) the two were flown to Miami and gifted $10k each by Young Dolph.

I love both of Lupita's looks. Aishwarya's dress and suit were nice too, but I feel like her makeup was a bit too harsh on her.
