Following the cancellations of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Last Man On Earth”, Fox has announced that it will revive Tim Allen’s show “Last Man Standing”. ABC cancelled the show after six seasons last summer.

It’s an important episode, one that sets up the tone of the last three episodes of the series. Which is why it’s remarkable that it was written by Sarah Nolen, a 28-year-old Penn State grad who earned her first-ever TV writing credit by scripting “Harvest.”


Nolen has worked in the show since season 4 as the assistant to Joel Fields, on season 6 she joined the writing staff “From the minute she arrived, she’s made great, terrific creative contributions,” Fields said. “We read some scripts of hers and some scene work of hers that’s been really strong.” Fields told her, according to Nolen: “If there’s an outline that you feel particularly pulled to or interested in, let me know. But just so you know, I have one that I think you would really excel at.”

That turned out to be "Harvest" an episode that changed everything and gave us the parking garage scene.


This is what Nolen had to say about it:

“We write some pretty dark, dark things on the show, but on the world of our show it’s — like, for example, the tooth-pulling scene. We refer to that as actually a very intimate scene. Practically a sex scene,” Nolen said, referring to the moment in season three when Philip has to pull a damaged tooth from Elizabeth because she couldn't go to the dentist. “It’s something that’s very gruesome and so hard to watch, but to us, I’m not even seeing him using pliers on her. I’m seeing intimacy. [..] “This scene in particular, I viewed as really difficult and selfless and romantic and, also, tactical. But there’s a lot of emotion to it.”

Hulu has passed on picking up the recently cancelled Fox series.

No word yet on if TBS or Netflix will step up but sources tell TV Line it’s unlikely.

ETA: The Hollywood Reporter says Netflix, TBS, and NBC (which owns the show) have all passed on reviving it as well.
