Beanie Feldstein to Star in 'How To Build a Girl'

  • Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird) will star in the film adaptation of Caitlin Moran's book How to Build a Girl.

  • Moran is writing the screenplay adaptation, while Coky Giedroyc (The Killing) will direct.

  • The film is set in 1990. Feldstein will play Johanna Morrigan, a 16 year-old (???) desperate to get out of her home town and make a name for herself. Using a psuedonym, she becomes a "bad ass music critic" who gains notoriety for her reviews, and then has to reconcile her reputation with her goals.

  • "The producers describe the lead character as 'one of the great female literary icons on a par with Elizabeth Bennet and Bridget Jones.' "

  • The film starts shooting in the UK in July.

Jane Fonda Is Done With Men at Age 80

At the premiere of her new film Book Club, in which she stars with Diane Keaton, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen as older women who have a sexual awakening when their book club reads Fifty Shades of Grey, Jane Fonda was asked who she dates in real life.

“I’m not dating anymore, but I did up until a couple of years ago. I’m 80. I’ve closed up shop down there.”

Fonda, who stars on the Netflix series Grace and Frankie with Lily Tomlin, ended an eight-year relationship with music producer Richard Perry in January 2017. She has been married and divorced three times: to director Roger Vadim (1965-1973), political activist Tom Hayden (1973-1990) and media mogul Ted Turner (1991-2001).

Back in 2011, Fonda said her secret to looking so good in her 70s was "great sex".

Barracoon: The Story of the Last Black Cargo

In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston went to Plateau, Alabama, just outside Mobile, to interview eighty-six-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women, and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was then the only person alive to tell the story of this integral part of the nation’s history. Hurston was there to record Cudjo’s firsthand account of the raid that led to his capture and bondage fifty years after the Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in the United States.

In 1931, Hurston returned to Plateau, the African-centric community three miles from Mobile founded by Cudjo and other former slaves from his ship. Spending more than three months there, she talked in depth with Cudjo about the details of his life. During those weeks, the young writer and the elderly formerly enslaved man ate peaches and watermelon that grew in the backyard and talked about Cudjo’s past—memories from his childhood in Africa, the horrors of being captured and held in a barracoon for selection by American slavers, the harrowing experience of the Middle Passage packed with more than 100 other souls aboard the Clotilda, and the years he spent in slavery until the end of the Civil War.




Artificial Condition: The Murderbot Diaries

It has a dark past—one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself “Murderbot”. But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.

Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don’t want to know what the “A” stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks…




The High Tide Club

When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons Brooke Trappnell to Talisa Island, her 20,000 acre remote barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never met her. Josephine’s cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter with Brooke, who is an attorney, but Brooke knows that Mrs. Warrick has long been a client of a prestigious Atlanta law firm.

Over a few meetings, the ailing Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, secrets, betrayal and a long-unsolved murder. She tells Brooke she is hiring her for two reasons: to protect her island and legacy from those who would despoil her land, and secondly, to help her make amends with the heirs of the long dead women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club—so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades—Millie, Ruth and Varina. When Josephine dies with her secrets intact, Brooke is charged with contacting Josephine’s friends’ descendants and bringing them together on Talisa for a reunion of women who’ve actually never met.




Warlight

They suspect he might be a criminal, and they grow both more convinced and less concerned as they come to know his eccentric crew of friends: men and women joined by a shared history of unspecified service during the war, all of whom seem, in some way, determined now to protect, and educate (in rather unusual ways) Rachel and Nathaniel. But are they really what and who they claim to be? And what does it mean when the siblings' mother returns after months of silence without their father, explaining nothing, excusing nothing? A dozen years later, Nathaniel begins to uncover all that he didn't know and understand in that time, and it is this journey--through facts, recollection, and imagination--that he narrates in this masterwork from one of the great writers of our time.

Belcalis Almanzar has had an amazing year from striping to becoming one of the belle's at this year's met gala. Now she has more reason to celebrate, she's expecting a baby girl with fiance off set. Almanzar, halted festival concerts she was apart of due to her pregnancy but will resume touring with lil cokehead, the pocket prince of pop Bruno Mars in the fall. Cardi will also release a lady marmalade 2.0 with singers who she claim's aren't that big and is slated to release 'i like it' as this summer's anthem.

In an interview, Akon gave his thoughts on Bill Cosby:
“You don't really know if he did it or he didn't do it"

He was then reminded that Bill Cosby has been convicted to which he responded:
"Yeah, but it's been a lot of people convicted that's been innocent. In situations like this you just...I don't know. I've already been painted a picture of Bill Cosby. He's a hero to me from the pictures that's been painted. It's hard to flip that around because I grew up as a child looking up to this man. And I wasn't there at the trial, so whatever was revealed or whatever was...these are allegations from 30 to 40 years ago."

Katy Perry took the high road and offered an olive branch to Taylor Swift to mend their differences. Swift embroiled Perry with a petty feud that lasted almost six years. Swift started the feud and made it public by writing a song about Perry, the music video depicts Swift's squad assassinating Perry and Swift continued her petty juvenile antics by releasing her music catalog on streaming platforms the day Perry released 'Witness'. Debuted 'Look What You Made Me Do', during the vma's which Perry was hosting, while taking jabs at Perry in the cut. In a car ride with James Corden, Perry said she tried calling Swift personally to squash the beef but Swift never returned any of her calls. Perry took it upon herself to be the bigger than me person and apologize to Swift. Instead thanking Perry personally Swift posted Perry's offering on social media. Katy was caught off guard because it seems like she's the one to blame, when in reality Swift started the feud and prolonged the drama all because of John Mayer.

• He was last seen today, May 9th, at 1 am, when he was leaving Dakota Hotel in South Queensferry, near Edinburgh.
• His bandmates (including his brother Grant) are very worried and posted the following on the band‘s facebook page:
“We are worried about Scott, who has been missing for a little while now. He may be in a fragile state and may not be making the best decisions for himself right now.“
• Scott last tweeted: “I‘m away now. Thanks.“

Horror inspo: Meegan is an iconic comedy sociopath in the mold of Julia Davis' Jill Tyrell and this sketch cuts right to her dark core, taking the horror-inspired vernacular of edgy millennials to the next level.

Roommate Meeting

Horror inspo: The post-Ringu Japanese horror that made bank in the West - all pasty wraiths and creepy effects. The sketch is charmingly filmed in the style of That 70s Show!, which makes for a pretty unique mash-up.
