The cast and creator of Happy Endings discuss the show five years after its last episode aired

Creator (and Casey Wilson's husband) David Caspe on a revival:“I’m personally a little surprised that there hasn’t been someone who’s realistically approached us to do it. Our fanbase is rabid but I suppose the cult following is smaller than it seems. It’s been five years and if it hasn’t happened yet, I can’t imagine it happening now, but at the same time, it wouldn’t really surprise me if Hulu or even ABC called me and asked if we’d ever do more. If we redid it, it would be worse. It’s always worse. I don’t know that you could ever redo something and have it be better, which would be a bummer because it’s such a great time in my life—I met my wife, I made so many great friends, I’m even working on a show now that [Adam] Pally’s in—but I’d do it in a heartbeat because I love them all so much.”

So where did it all go wrong? Some of the cast members from the show reflect and have their own theory as to why Happy Endings didn't make it on ABC when it was clear, it should have.

Casey Wilson (Penny Hartz)

“I really think we suffered being in the crosshairs of network TV thinking they should have higher ratings and not realizing that they were at the beginning of the end. The ratings were better than a lot of network shows that are on now, but we got lost in the shuffle of the panic about network which is still happening. Even if it came out three years later when people started realizing that we had good numbers, we would have hung on, which is a bummer. Maybe it’s best to leave people wanting more, but we’d have loved at least another season.”

Zachary Knighton (Dave Rose)

“I think there are a lot of answers. I don’t think we got the support from the network that we needed. Paul Lee had taken over after we were picked up and we weren’t his baby. We were supposed to premiere and then they moved us and put us on against the Olympics and it was all so strange. In fact, we all kinda thought there was no way it was going to even get past the first season because we knew that while we had a lot of love from people, we didn’t have the billboards. We actually wanted to crowdfund to get one single billboard at one point! I think we were just on the forefront on it and if maybe we’d come out a year later, it would’ve worked better. If we were on the air right now with the numbers other shows are putting out in 2018, we’d be a monster hit with the numbers we had. Basically, they fucked up and cancelled it and then all their shows tanked. That was around the time that execs wanted shows to get back to those Friends numbers and they hadn’t caught up with the concept of Netflix and streaming—now they’re letting shows stay on with a .5 or .6—we had a 2.1 or something!”

Eliza Coupe (Jane Kerkovich-Williams)

“I think if it was on now, people would be going crazy, especially if it was on one of the streaming networks—there’d be more leeway to be a little more edgy and not so cookie-cutter. I think maybe people weren’t necessarily ready for it, particularly the networks. If it was on now, it’d be gobbled up and we’d be winning in every category at the Emmys for comedy. With everything that’s going on in the world right now, people want to fucking laugh.”

Adam Pally (Max Blum)

“I think that it was a lot of things that you weren’t really seeing on television at the time and maybe still aren’t. It had a nice mix of a new energy and a new vibrance and a new bunch of characters. That was also why it didn’t work, if that makes sense. When something like that happens and there are just as many reasons that it didn’t work that it did, you usually get a strong fanbase. I really love it. If you look at every character and situation, there was something different about them that you’d never seen before. It was wrapped up in this nice bow of a TV sitcom that you felt you knew and then what you were getting was something completely original.”

YT Description: As Asian pop acts dominate charts around the world, a new band called FFC-Acrush hopes to be China’s answer to K-Pop. The group’s spiky hair and suggestive dance routines make them the platonic ideal of a boy band, with one exception: They’re girls.
The five members of Acrush say they prefer to be referred to as mĕi shàonián, or “handsome youths.” And with their short hair, drop-crotch pants, and sneakers, they look more like Justin Bieber clones than Fifth Harmony.
Acrush is the brainchild of 34-year-old Wang Tianhai, whose 7-month-old company, Zhejiang Huati Culture Communication, is funded in part by the billion-dollar Chinese tech giant Tencent. Wang now hopes to create China’s popstar industrial complex. (yikes)

Johnny Depp Allegedly Abused a Crew Member on His New Film After Drinking All Day

Page Six says that "multiple crewmembers" from the set of Johnny Depp's upcoming film LAbyrinth told them that Depp attempted to punch the film's location manager and screamed at him “I’ll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!” before he was pulled off.

The incident happened when Depp took over directing for a scene in which he had cast two of his friends as a cop and a homeless man. They were shooting on an LA street that had been closed off, but Depp couldn't wrap the scene in time and the permit ran out. The location manager kept asking for more time but finally had to tell Depp "This is the last shot."

Depp had been “smoking and drinking all day on set” and got in the staffer’s face. “He was 6 inches away, yelling, ‘Who are you? You have no right!’ ” sources said. He tried to punch the location manager in the ribs but wasn't able to connect the punch, so instead he yelled that he would pay the guy $100,000 to punch him.

Depp's spokesperson declined to comment, but the film's director, Brad Furman, insisted in a statement that the story is exaggerated: “Johnny Depp is a consummate professional, great collaborator and a supporter of other artists. He always treats the crew and people around him with the utmost respect. Movies can be stressful, and nonevents often become exaggerated. We all love stories — there isn’t one here.”

Evgenia Medvedeva leaves Eteri Tutberidze for Brian Orser

Evgenia Medvedeva, 18-year old 2x world champion and Olympic silver medalist, has left coach of 11 years Eteri Tutberidze. She will continue to represent Russia and her home club Sambo-70, but train in Canada under Brian Orser. Brian Orser is famous for coaching Yuna Kim, Yuzuru Hanyu, and Javier Fernandez.

Here is a full translation of Evgenia's statement. She thanks Eteri for their time together and wishes all of her students health and longevity. This a big contrast to Eteri, a 44-year old coach, who trashed Evgenia on national TV yesterday. Eteri claimed that she only found out about Evgenia leaving through the news and showed screenshots of Evgenia not replying to her texts since April. She also said that after Alina Zagitova won Olympic gold, Evgenia asked Eteri why she couldn't keep Alina in juniors for another year. Eteri has a reputation for trashing her skaters and telling lies about them after they leave her like when she called Yulia Lipnitskaya lazy and spoiled.

Brian Orser has spoken. He said that Evgenia and her mom met with him at Ice Fantasia in Korea. He immediately had respect for her because she said she didn't want to say anything bad about her current coaching situation. He wants her foot and back to heal and then will give her a voice in her skating. She will work with David Wilson as her choreographer.

Saoirse Ronan, Cillian Murphy advocate for women's rights with Together for Yes

In Ireland today, a pregnant woman can get an abortion only in cases of proven risk to her life; even in cases where the fetus has a fatal abnormality and no chance of postnatal survival, the woman must carry to term.

Only 16 abortions were performed in Ireland in 2017, but over 1000 Irish women traveled to the UK for the procedure. Many who cannot afford to travel have an illegal termination using pills bought online, which can result in up to 14 years in prison.

The UN called Ireland's abortion laws "cruel and inhuman."

In April, a citizens' assembly voted 52 to 29 to recommend that abortion be available without restrictions up to 12 weeks after conception. The nationwide referendum takes place Friday, May 25. Saoirse Ronan, Cillian Murphy, Aisling Bea, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and more lent their voices to Together for Yes in support of a Yes vote. Liam Neeson published a statement of support, as well.

Killer of Morgan Freeman's Granddaughter Acquitted of Murder, But Convicted of Manslaughter

* Lamar Davenport stabbed his girlfriend E'Dena Hines 25 times while screaming "I love you. I always loved you. God would have wanted this" in August 2015.

* Judge Ellen Biben acquitted him of murder and found him guilty of manslaughter instead because he was high on PCP at the time and so wasn't acting "with malice"; his lawyer had argued that he was in a state of "drug-induced psychosis" at the time

* Morgan Freeman adopted Hines' mother, who was the daughter of his first wife. During the trial, Davenport's lawyer claimed that Hines had told him she had a sexual relationship with Freeman. Freeman has denied this.

* Davenport now faces up to 25 years in prison
