Ariana Grande's 'No Tears Left to Cry' Breaks Her Previous YouTube Record

Directed by Dave Meyers and produced by Nathan Scherrer, the video for Ariana Grande's No Tears Left to Cry recently broke the record for the most YouTube views of one of her music videos in a week. Focus* held the title before.

No Tears Left to Cry currently has 54,910,149 views. The song has also been streamed on Spotify more times in its first week than any of her previous releases (31 million times worldwide).

Plus, fans noticed at the end of the video a tribute to the people killed at Ariana's Manchester concert last year. The worker bee has been the symbol of Manchester since the Industrial Revolution and appears on the city's coat of arms.

*It wasn't totally clear from the article if Focus was the one that held the record before. Stans, correct me if I'm wrong!

ONTD Original: Gorgeous Editions of Classic Books

0
0
"Don't judge a book by its cover"? Nonsense! Who among readers doesn't love a nice luxurious edition, especially when it's of one of your favourite books? Below are some of the most stunning collections of classic books. They'll make you want to pick up children's books again, dive into a new genre, or even face a huge Russian classic! (Even non-readers will want to display them on their shelves).

https://instagram.com/p/BhxGcgBBw-N

Note: this post is not an advertisement. OP just likes books with nice design.

Make sure to click on the little arrows to see more pics on the Instagram posts!

1. Puffin In Bloom Collection

The gorgeous cover art on these children's classics is by Anna Bond (of Rifle Paper Co.). The books are in gold-foil embellished hardcover, come with matching bookmarks, and have ornate endpaper designs. Originally, the collection contained only Anne of Green Gables (LM Montgomery), Little Women (Louisa May Alcott), Heidi (Johanna Spyri), A Little Princess (Frances Burnett) and came in a little box set, but for the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll), that title was added to the collection. Alice got a bit of a special treatment compared to the other titles, as it comes with a dust jacket (and so actually boasts two different cover designs), plus 70 full-color, amazingggg illustrations.

2. Puffin Chalk Collection

This is also a series of children's classics by Puffin, a little bit less feminine than the In Bloom Collection. The covers are chalk art illustrations - YES SERIOUSLY it really is chalk! You can see on the time-lapse video the artist working on the Peter Pan cover, it's amazing. The books also boast French flaps, ilustrations and deckled edges (that's when the edges of the pages are sort of rough and uneven, it's pretty cool). The titles are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie, Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

3. Penguin Galaxy Series

These are hardcover editions of 6 classic works of sci-fi and fantasy, all with an introduction by Neil Gaiman: The Left Hand of Darkness (Ursula Le Guin), The Once and Future King (TH White), Neuromancer (William Gibson), Dune (Frank Herbert), 2001: A Space Odyssey (Arthur C. Clarke) and Stranger in a Strange Land (Robert Heinlein). The covers are by Alex Trochut and the set comes in a freaking jewel-box lucite showcase. (The whole set costs a small fortune but look at ittttt!).

4. White's Fine Editions

So, let me first tell you that I own the Pride and Prejudice volume out of this collection and can confirm it is amazing. First of all, these books are CLOTHBOUND. That's right. They are tall/large books, and the pages are actually sewn in (not glued) to make it sturdier. The color printed endpapers extend the cover design inside and the book even has small illustrations inside. The text is manually typeset and the page design is adapted to each book. I mean!!! It's really a treasure.

Currently, White's Books has published Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), The Christmas Books (Charles Dickens), Treasure Island (Robert Louis Stevenson), Sonnets and Poems (Shakespeare), Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), Emma (Jane Austen), Sherlock Holmes: His Greatest Cases (Arthur Conan Doyle).

5. Vintage Dystopias

Vintage Books allllways makes classics look cool and fresh (they also sell a lot of nice affordable paperbacks, not just fancy hardcovers). The Vintage Dystopia collection contains three classics of dystopian fiction (Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World), each with black, red and white minimalist designs by Noma Bar and a hardcover. The edges of the pages are also all blood red (how cool is that).

6. Vintage Heroes and Villains

See what I'm saying about Vintage! This a 12 book collection, featuring "some of literatures most (in)famous characters". I couldn't find much about the designer (turns out the collection has a tricky name to google), but as you can see the covers boast a striking quotation from the book instead of the title + name of the author, it's all very noir-ish.

The 12 books in the collection are: Dr. No (Ian Fleming), Brighton Rock (Graham Greene), Talented Mr. Ripley (Patricia Highsmith), The Woman in Black (Susan Hill), The Devil’s Star (Jo Nesbo), The Tiger in the Smoke (Margery Allingham), The Thirty Nine Steps (John Buchan), The Secret Agent (Joseph Conrad), Murder has a Motive (Francis Duncan), Dracula (Bram Stoker), Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Robert Louis Steveson), The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux).

https://instagram.com/p/BiBlBYtACmB

7. Vintage Russian Classics

Unlike some of their minimalist collections (see above), this one is busy, busy, busy (and gorgeous). To mark the centenary of the Russian Revolution (hence the red), Vintage Classics published paperback editions of six of the greatest works of Russian literature. The covers are designed by Suzanne Dean using textile patterns from the collection of Susan Meller, who founded The Design Library in New York.

8. Virago Modern Classics Designer Collection

Virago is a publisher of books written by women. This designer hardback collection was meant to celebrate their 30 years and is made up of modern classic novels written by authors such as Daphne du Maurier, Angela Carter, Elizabeth Jenkins and others. The books are bound in colourful and patterned textiles designed by contemporary textile designers including Eley Kishimoto, Angie Levin or Lucienne Day, and contain an introduction written by another Virago author.

(Now Virago is 40 and they have another commemorative collection out, but they're paperbacks this time!)

https://instagram.com/p/BgeLXbYj2zE

9. Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions

These Barnes and Noble Collectible books boast bonded-leather bindings, gilt edging, decorated endpapers and a satin ribbon bookmark. It's a whole thing. They've got an absolutely massive range, everything from Winnie the Pooh to the Art of War. Whoever's got the money to collect them all (aka not me) can be assured of a very attractive library.

https://instagram.com/p/Bbzq1hqhRl3

https://instagram.com/p/BgwuJTKl9aX

10. Folio Society Books

I definitely saved the best for last. The Folio Society books cost a fortune, but there's a good reason: they are, quite simply, works of art - in form and content. They are the epitome of good taste in book collecting. Folio Society publishes exquisite, high-end hardback editions of excellent fiction and nonfiction works – everything from classic novels like Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice to sci-fi like Frank Herbert’s Dune, and history books like Mary Beard's Pompeii. The books come inside beautifully illustrated slipcases, and specially commissioned illustrations are usually found throughout the book as well as on the cover.

15 Books You Hated As a Teen - But Should Give a Second Chance As An Adult

gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

About: Here is a novel, glamorous, ironical, compassionate – a marvelous fusion into unity of the curious incongruities of the life of the period – which reveals a hero like no other – one who could live at no other time and in no other place. But he will live as a character, we surmise, as long as the memory of any reader lasts.

It is the story of this Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous entertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan – a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe.

It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism.

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

About: First published in 1952 and immediately hailed as a masterpiece, Invisible Man is one of those rare novels that have changed the shape of American literature. For not only does Ralph Ellison's nightmare journey across the racial divide tell unparalleled truths about the nature of bigotry and its effects on the minds of both victims and perpetrators, it gives us an entirely new model of what a novel can be.

As he journeys from the Deep South to the streets and basements of Harlem, from a horrifying "battle royal" where black men are reduced to fighting animals, to a Communist rally where they are elevated to the status of trophies, Ralph Ellison's nameless protagonist ushers readers into a parallel universe that throws our own into harsh and even hilarious relief. Suspenseful and sardonic, narrated in a voice that takes in the symphonic range of the American language, black and white, Invisible Man is one of the most audacious and dazzling novels of our century.

The Awakening by Kate Chopin

The Awakening by Kate Chopin

About: When first published in 1899, The Awakening shocked readers with its honest treatment of female marital infidelity. Audiences accustomed to the pieties of late Victorian romantic fiction were taken aback by Chopin's daring portrayal of a woman trapped in a stifling marriage, who seeks and finds passionate physical love outside the confines of her domestic situation.

Aside from its unusually frank treatment of a then-controversial subject, the novel is widely admired today for its literary qualities. Edmund Wilson characterized it as a work "quite uninhibited and beautifully written, which anticipates D. H. Lawrence in its treatment of infidelity." Although the theme of marital infidelity no longer shocks, few novels have plumbed the psychology of a woman involved in an illicit relationship with the perception, artistry, and honesty that Kate Chopin brought to The Awakening.

Moby-Dick or, The Whale

Moby-Dick or, The Whale by Herman Melville

About: "It is the horrible texture of a fabric that should be woven of ships' cables and hawsers. A Polar wind blows through it, and birds of prey hover over it."

So Melville wrote of his masterpiece, one of the greatest works of imagination in literary history. In part, Moby-Dick is the story of an eerily compelling madman pursuing an unholy war against a creature as vast and dangerous and unknowable as the sea itself. But more than just a novel of adventure, more than an encyclopaedia of whaling lore and legend, the book can be seen as part of its author's lifelong meditation on America. Written with wonderfully redemptive humour, Moby-Dick is also a profound inquiry into character, faith, and the nature of perception.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

About: Mary Shelley began writing Frankenstein when she was only eighteen. At once a Gothic thriller, a passionate romance, and a cautionary tale about the dangers of science, Frankenstein tells the story of committed science student Victor Frankenstein. Obsessed with discovering the cause of generation and life and bestowing animation upon lifeless matter, Frankenstein assembles a human being from stolen body parts but; upon bringing it to life, he recoils in horror at the creature's hideousness. Tormented by isolation and loneliness, the once-innocent creature turns to evil and unleashes a campaign of murderous revenge against his creator, Frankenstein.

Frankenstein, an instant bestseller and an important ancestor of both the horror and science fiction genres, not only tells a terrifying story, but also raises profound, disturbing questions about the very nature of life and the place of humankind within the cosmos: What does it mean to be human? What responsibilities do we have to each other? How far can we go in tampering with Nature? In our age, filled with news of organ donation genetic engineering, and bio-terrorism, these questions are more relevant than ever.

Caroline Vreeland, the granddaughter of Harper's Bazaar editor Diana Vreeland, takes a camera crew around Miami to show off what she eats in a day. Her boyfriend Jason is there too. She drinks from a coconut, makes a pizza, and goes out for dinner!

While she doesn't eat meat, she points out she is definitely not gluten-free.

Who? She's probably best-known for her Instagram. She's always posting the pizza, pasta, and wine she's having, while throwing in some fashionable shots too.

After learning Chic was not her son Charles, and that Chic killed the real Charles (his boyfriend) in a fight, Alice Cooper admitted to FP that Chic indeed was his son. What a riveting hour of television!

-Madchen Amick credits her co-star Skeet Ulrich for being her rock during the filming
-This was the last scene to be shot after several other episodes had been filmed, and they were already behind in their schedule
-They were filming at 2-3 in the morning, and she felted discombobulated to get into that emotional zone
-She told Skeet she needed him and they went aside and discussed what was important in that scene, and in that moment she knew they were in it together
-She knocked the scene out of the fucking park
-More twists are coming

ONTD Original: ONTD's 11 Lesbian Girlfriends (Plus One Who Isn't But Should Be)

0
0

The Actor - SAMIRA WILEY
Who? – Formerly of the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black. Currently starring in the hit Hulu show The Handmaid’s Tale.
Why? – Have you seen that face? She’s every woman’s dream girl with a smile that could light up your life. She also seems to have her personal life together, being married to OitNB writer Lauren Morelli.

The Fine Wine - ROBIN ROBERTS
Who? - Sportscenter and Good Morning America anchor, Robin Roberts has been a steady presence in our lives, impressing us with her beauty, kindness, and strength at every turn.
Why? - Those arms.  That smile.  Keep doing whatever you're doing, queen.  Both we and your wife Amber Laign are loving it.

The Athletes - MEGAN RAPINOE and SUE BIRD
Who?– A couple of athletes, Megan is on the USWNT and plays for the Seattle Reign. Sue Bird plays for the US women’s basketball team and the Seattle Storm.
Why? – This slot was originally going to go to just messy ass Pinoe, but upon a google and spotting of Sue’s arms, we made room. Pinoe is known for her messy love life wracked with cheating and hospital breakups, but she is willing to stand (or rather, kneel) for what she believes in. She seems like an overall decent human and that’s what matters. Sue is the WNBA all-time assists leader so her athleticism is a big draw tbh. OP and friends don’t actually know anything else about her.

The Singer - HAYLEY KIYOKO
Who?– Lesbian Jesus and triple threat
Why?– Hayley Kiyoko is unafraid of the consequences of being an open and proud lesbian in the pop world, which is incredibly inspiring and hopefully leads to more like her. Her dad dance moves keep us enthralled and her album was overall full of bops. Any straight girl would be lucky to call Hayley their girlfriend.

The Legend - LILY TOMLIN
Who?– She’s a legend. You know who.
Why?– Because Lily is 78 years old and still making us laugh on the reg in her hit show Grace and Frankie. Having been with the same woman (Jane Wagner) since the 70’s, she gives all the serial monogamist lesbians I know hope.

The Cougar - HOLLAND TAYLOR
Who?– The timelessly regal Holland Taylor is a prolific actress (The L Word, D.E.B.S., Bossom Buddies) and robber of cradles.
Why? –That pussy work must be magic.  If it's good enough for Sarah Paulson, surely it's good enough for ONTD.

The Comedienne - KATE McKINNON
Who?– Cast Member on Saturday Night Live and in my heart
Why?– Arguably the best cast member currently on SNL, Kate is one of the few who can make their guests break on the regular. Her silly humor and willingness to look like an idiot are very attractive qualities in the lesbian world. Also, she’s pretty tight-lipped about her personal life, having no social media. It’s nice to have a lesbian we don’t worry about embarrassing us very often. Which leads us into…

The Hot Mess - ANNIE CLARK (St. Vincent)
Who? – Singer of songs
Why?– St. Vincent is known for two things: her great music and her messy as hell dating life. She first popped on our radar as one half of a #goals couple with Carrie Brownstein. That one ended in hellfire when Carrie reportedly cheated on Annie with OitNB’s Taylor Schilling. Since then, Annie has sunk her sexually fluid claws into partygirl sweetheart Cara Delevigne, stuck in an on/off (currently and maybe permanently off). She has also been linked with Kstew, though it’s possible they’re just friends.

The Model - STELLA MAXWELL
Who?– I don’t really know, tbh. I guess she’s a model.
Why?– I and many other only know who Stella is based on her dating history. She’s the girl Miley fingered in public and is now very publicly and grossly dating Kstew. So why should she be an ONTD gf? We don’t know, actually.

The Childhood Crush - PATRICIA VELÁSQUEZ
Who? – A Venezuelan actress and model, considered by some to be the first Native American model.
Why? – If you saw The Mummy as a kid, you know who I’m talking about. She played Anck Su Namun and kicked her way into our hearts and onto our vision boards. If you’re an idiot like OP, you only recently found out she’s a lesbian and that childhood crush turned into an adulthood crush. She executive produced and starred in a terrible lesbian movie entitled Liz in September in 2014 (OP highly recommends a watch).

The Honorary Lesbian - AMBER HEARD
Who?– Actress, haver of trash taste
Why? – Amber is bi, so really we don’t want her to be a lesbian for our sake, but her own. Amber has consistently shown us she has garbage taste in men. Please Amber, for yourself, discover you’re not really attracted to men.

ONTD Original: The Parallels Between Lana Del Rey's and Hurts' Musical Journey

0
0

You all probably know who Lana Del Rey is, so I don't really need to introduce her. But if you are not familiar with them, Hurts is a Manchester-based pop band that found most of their success in Russia and Scandinavian countries. Maybe you know their breakout hit "Stay", their song "Devotion" with Kylie Mingoue, their Lady Gaga "Judas" remix, or Theo Hutchcraft after lending his voice to Calvin Harris'"Under Control". You might also recognize Theo being pals with Harry Styles.

In no way I am comparing their success or quality of music, but after being a fan of their music for some time (Hurts since 2011, Lana since 2012), I couldn't help but notice the STRIKING parallels of their musical progressions from album to album. So here's a post dedicated to these musical acts who, if they pair up, could be a match made in heaven.

HAPPINESS (2010)BORN TO DIE (2012)
Singles: "Better than Love", "Wonderful Life", "Stay", "Sunday"
Themes: the band was going through a low point where they were unemployed and doing small gigs as previous band the Daggers. They eventually got a major label record deal, revamped their image, and recorded an album which is full of lush and somber songs, which were about their time before forming Hurts. Sonically 80's new wave with 90's ballads.
Singles: "Video Games", "Born to Die", "Blue Jeans", "National Anthem", "Summertime Sadness"
Themes: Lana plays around with American imagery, and a lot of the songs are about summertime sadness (no pun intended), loss, and nostalgia. Includes hip-hop productions, and real life sound-bites.

Parallels: these were their big debuts full of #sadcore songs. The title "Happiness" is quite paradoxical to the overall tone of the album, while "Born to Die" is quite nihilistic and confrontational.

Their initial singles received viral success with low budget videos; "Wonderful Life" gaining 20 million views (it was a lot then, and now their original upload was deleted and they remade a more high production video later) and "Video Games" garnered a lot of views and gained momentum on UK radio.

- "Wonderful Life": Now called Hurts, Hutchcraft and Anderson recorded an amateur music video for a song called "Wonderful Life" with a female dancer who had responded to an advert in a shop window. After they uploaded the video to their YouTube channel in April 2009, it quickly went viral. They were signed to RCA imprint Major Label in July. The video has since had over 21 million views on YouTube, putting it in the top 200 most watched videos on the website.

- "Video Games": "...the song's atmospheric and grainy video, cut together by the singer, perfectly complemented the whole high-art-meets-low-art vibe. Del Rey was duly signed by Interscope, which released 'Video Games' officially in October and saw it climb to the top 10 in the UK and half a dozen other European countries."

EXILE (2013)ULTRAVIOLENCE (2014)
Singles: "Miracle", "Blind", "Somebody to Die For", "The Road"
Themes: the topics were more or less similar to Happiness but grittier. Their lyrics included death and sex, and sonically went in a more industrial-rock place.
Singles: "West Coast", "Shades of Cool", "Ultraviolence"
Themes: Lana talked about toxic relationships and indulgence. Sonically it was psychedelic rock.

Parallels: Both albums, thematically, went to a much more darker place than the formers. These eras were reactionary to their previous ones after having an explosive debut.

It's been noted that they recorded the album in a very dark and cold studio to impact the music. Hurts on the meaning of Exile: "That sense of being in a weird place. Freedom, fear, isolation, joy, religion, punishment, the decadence that comes with exile—always being on tour, always far away from home. It did feel like we were on the run, always chasing something.""The Crow" is about being consumed in a darkness, "The Rope" is about saving someone from suicide, and "Sandman" is a creepy sleeping anthem with the support a children's choir. They also had the help of Elton John playing piano on the song "Help."

UV was initially going to be called Black Beauty but she decided to change it since the rumors started. In songs like "Money Power Glory" and FMWUTTT, she was making fun of the way she was perceived in the media and the image casted on her. The infamous "he hit me and it felt like a kiss" line in "Ultraviolence" sparked controversy and the whole topic of Lana Del Rey's music with regards to feminism.

I'd also like to add how conceptual their album and title tracks were.
"This is exile, we're in exile" vs. "This is ultraviolence, ultraviolence."

SURRENDER (2015)HONEYMOON (2015)
Singles: "Some Kind of Heaven", "Lights", "Wish", "Wings"
Themes: Positivity, hope. The songs on this album were more contemporary pop than their last two and a lot more vibrant.
Singles: "Honeymoon", "High By the Beach", "Music to Watch Boys To", "Freak"
Themes: Drugs, love, vacationing, grief. She dubbed the sounds of the album as 'muddy trap' and 'jazzy'.

Parallels: You can just even see it with their album covers - they're no longer in portrait mode and now, in a way, mobile and on their way to a destination (Lana finally got in a damn car after all these album covers lmao). Hurts explained the meaning of Surrender: "That feeling of letting go,” says Theo, “not resisting. Often, when people ask us about it - maybe it has a different meaning in other languages - they say it’s a very negative title. 'Surrender’ is a lot more extroverted, and outward looking.”
Honeymoon does not stray a lot from her old themes, but with songs like "The Blackest Day" she's finally realizing the old routines of negativity she needs to stray from.

Let's also talk about the video for "High By the Beach" where Lana is no longer a victim of her relationships seen in videos like "Blue Jeans", "National Anthem", and in "Born to Die". She takes control and conquers a helicopter, symbolic of the relationship of her life with fame. This is probably the most action we've seen Lana do in a mv at that point where she's running around her ugly beach house and firing the gun.

The videos for Surrender were a lot more colorful in the Hurts videography palette at that point too. "Lights" was a game changer and their first dance/disco/funk inspired track. In the video, Theo showcases his dancing abilities for the first time in the middle of a radiant discotheque. One of their more light-hearted videos (sans the bar fight) that isn't thematically melancholic or dark.

They've also made direct nods to their previous music on these albums. On the second verse of "Kaleidoscope Dream", the instrumental of "Wonderful Life" can be heard interpolated. With Lana, I'd like to consider the parallels between the 'why' chants in "Art Deco" similar to the ones in the beginning of "Born to Die."

DESIRE (2017)LUST FOR LIFE (2017)
Singles: "Beautiful Ones", "Ready to Go", "Chaperone"
Themes: Love, sex, relationships
Singles: "Love", "Lust for Life", "Summer Bummer"
Themes: Growth, politics, #Change.

Parallels: I mean sis, just look at the album titles. Hurts said Desire is an "album full of passion, pain and lust." With NME, Lana responded to how happy she looked on the cover: “That was my goal, you know, to get to that place of feeling like in my daily life I had a lot of momentum. Like a moving-on-ness from wherever that other place was that ‘Honeymoon’ and ‘Ultraviolence’ came from. I loved those records, but I felt a little stuck in the same spot.”

Now let's talk about the lead singles which were both anthemic and speaking to an audience. "Beautiful Ones" is about being proud and being who you are, and the video, in dramatic Hurts fashion, showcases a bittersweet message of being yourself where Theo is a drag queen who gets attacked from a party, seeks revenge and ends in doom, but played in reverse. The song was used as a pride anthem for Christopher Street Day.

"Love" is about enjoying the feeling of being young and in #love, and Lana is singing to an audience of young couples.

Quite the shift since their first albums.

What's also weird to me is that since their photo together in 2013 (header), they've released albums in the same year since.

On that note, Theo had this to say about Lana: "She is someone we really admire. She is somebody we feel is at least on the same wavelength when it comes to what pop music should be."

“We have a great respect for how she conducts her artistry so it would be fantastic. She is lovely. She is really something to be treasured. She said in an interview that she wants to make something her generation can be proud of and that’s lovely in a world where things can disintegrate very quickly. We do that with people like Bowie.”

Ahh, my faves

I like that this season hasn't been too predictable with the eliminations, and I'm genuinely surprised Kameron is still there lol

NHL has to ask player to stop licking people

0
0

- After the first game of the series against the Leafs, the Bruins got a call from the NHL asking them if they could kindly ask Brad Marchand, who is almost 30, to refrain from licking people.

- When asked why he licked Komarov, Marchand replied “he’s cute.” He previously kissed Komarov on the cheek, and attempted to kiss/made a kissy face at then-Dallas Stars player Patrick Eaves. While I’m sure they’re happy he isn’t concussing people for once, why the NHL thinks this is okay is beyond me.

- Are there any unsolved serial murders in Boston?

- Good luck to the Lightning!

Petition underway to cancel R. Kelly’s Chicago Performance

Illiterate predator Robert Kelly (also known as R. Kelly, the Pied Piper, that man who wrote “Ignition”) is scheduled to perform at concert event known as the Love Jam. The concert will also feature Xscape, K. Michelle, and Lyfe Jennings, but Kelly is billed as the headliner. Love Jam is set to take place on May 5th at the UIC Pavilion. The Pavilion is owned and operated by the University of Illinois at Chicago. (In case you forgot, Donald Trump was scheduled to speak here during his campaign, but amid protests, he backed out.) The event is not sponsored by the university but it still can be promoted on the university’s campus.

One campus organization, the Campus Advocacy Network, has drafted a petition to get the event cancelled because Kelly’s extended history of preying on young black girls. He has been known to lurk after girls in Hyde Park, local high schools and shopping malls in Chicago.

The university is home to a very diverse student body with enrollment of black students increasing every year, topping about an 8% enrollment of the total student body.

Bebe Rexha believes she paved the way for artists to make pop/country music

0
0
Veteran backup vocalist Bebe Rexha recently joined the ranks of the Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw and Pink (to name a few), of becoming one of the only artists to have a #1 on both Country Airplay and Pop Songs charts. Her smash hit single "Meant To Be" which is a collab with Florida Georgia Line reached #2 on the Billboard Charts, giving her her career peak. As the crossover song still continues to reach new heights around the world (#2 in Australia ((but we are flops and don't count anyway))), Bebe has taken to Twitter to claim herself as the pioneer for artists who wish to combine pop and country sounds together, and believes it is she that has set the trend for the latest musical craze.

Her latest EP peaked at #33 on the Billboard 200. Her impact indeed.

When someone scoffed at her, Bebe's only response was calling out the number of followers they had. Queen of sass etc;

BONUS:

Funny, considering Bubu has come for other female artists like Grammy award nominated Demi Lovato, and also loving mother Kylie Jenner before.

ONTD, do you think Bebe Rexha is the queen of country/pop crossovers when we already had songs like Hilary Duff's 'All About You' and Lady Gaga's 'Million Performances Reasons...
