ONTD Original: Eight “Work” Anthems from Your Faves Part II

$

0

It was 2016, Rihanna and Drake's “Work” had just spent its eighth week at no. 1. Before the success however, ONTD was skeptical and thought it was going to flop. I know, I know, it was wild. Due to the song's massive success at the time, I had brought to your attention eight otherWork themed songs and rated them. Sometime has passed since then and now there are new songs that fit that theme as well as past songs I had forgotten or left off the first list (one purposely tbh - #SorryNotSorryIggy). So, let's do it again and rate eight more work based songs. Once again, this OP will grade each “Work” song with a rating of 1 to 5 based on a combination of song/anthem quality (65%), chart success (10%), and lbr my own self bias (25%). ❤

THE BEGINNING OF THE END — After Midge is brutally murdered during the school musical, Archie leads the charge to uncover the culprit.

Meanwhile, the reveal of a devastating secret (probably that Chic isn't even the real Chic) leads to a violent showdown between possibly fake Chic, Jughead, Betty, and Alice.

Elsewhere, Veronica has to deal with Nick who has decided to come back to Riverdale for revenge.

Finally, Hermoine and Cheryl conspire to take down Sheriff Keller because as DILFy as he is, he's also extremely incompetent and this has been a long time coming.

Directed by Jennifer Phang and written by Cristine Chambers

-"We've known that the Black Hood was going to come back for a while and we thought that the most unexpected way for the Black Hood to come back was during the musical episode...We wanted his return to be tied to a character's demise. It's funny because I love the actress who plays Midge (LMAO, I call fucking bullshit). We did everything we could to try to keep her alive, but in the end, it was just that the Black Hood could not be stopped.

-On what was the most difficult number: "The opening number, ["In"], was shot over several days and involved all of the cast in different locations, so that one took a lot of organization and coordination over a few days. In the number "A Night We'll Never Forget," the scene when they're all in the dressing room is one long take, and that was really difficult [to shoot]."

"The inspiration for the musical episode, on some level, was there was a high school production of “Sweeney Todd” in Australia maybe two years ago that we read about where a kid that was playing Sweeney Todd used the wrong prop razor and used a real razor and slit a kid’s throat. The kid survived, but it felt like such a “Riverdale” story!"

They wanted to do Sweeney but then Little Shop of Horrors was also in consideration before settling on Carrie.

They also released promo pictures for 2x20, "Shadow of a Doubt"

Much like all of us, Nicky J is still trying to get down deep and figure out who he is in this game we call life.
Nick
In a new interview he revealed he still doesn't know who he is or what he wants.

He said: "I don’t think I’ve had that ‘a ha’ moment yet where I’ve gone, ‘I know who I am! I know everything about myself or who I want to be'. I do know that I’ve had very character-building life experiences, some good and some bad and within all of it, I feel like it’s a slab of marble and chipping away at whatever the thing is underneath.”

He also said being a teen idol built up more insecurity withing him cause his growing up period was public.

Disney Can't Keep Its Deals With Harvey Weinstein Confidential

$

  • In 2017, Disney was labeled in a suit filed by an anonymous actress and victim of noted abuser Harvey Weinstein as being complicit in her abuse. This was due to Disney, at the time, owning Miramax, a company that was also owned and maintained by Weinstein. She claims that in the time between Disney purchasing the company and selling it in 2010, she was sexually abused by Weinstein.

  • Disney claimed they were "unaware" of Weinstein's reputation (ha) and had never had any real complaints or allegations about him (HA). In March 2018, in an attempt to keep the lawsuit in a stalemate, they attempted to file a suit preventing documents in relation to Weinstein from being made public. The documents detail the relationship between Weinstein and Disney. Doe's lawyers argued that this way, Disney would not only be able to cherry pick whatever was in the document to support it's cause, but also essentially escape any liability in the case altogether.

  • Now, however, a Toronto court has ruled that Disney cannot keep the documents sealed, arguing that Disney does not need a sealing order because Disney has no obligations to keep the documents confidential and that they had failed to seek an alternative course to a full seal, instead opting for an "all or nothing" route. As a result, the two parties can now determine what aspects of the documents are relevant enough to the court case and thus can be viewed by the public, and what aren't.

Sam admitted to flying to Hawaii where she was living and working at least 7 times to convince her to come back to him, and the 7th time it worked.

Sam not taking no for an answer~ (not my words),  is how to couple got back together and married a few months later. Then he released that weird "Drinkin Too Much" song about her.

In a redeeming part of the interview though, he talks about her generosity and charity work, and wanting to support her in that cause she supported his career.

Why Dwayne Johnson almost quit Rampage over its ending

$

Dwayne Johnson discussed his problems with the original ending of Rampage (spoilers):

“So the script comes in, and I’m reading it. And at the end of it – George dies! I’m like, ‘No. Did I miss something? George can’t be dead.’ But I go back, and yeah. I don’t like a sad ending. Life brings that shit -- I don’t want it in my movies. When the credits roll, I want to feel great... We had a big meeting where they gave me all the reasons they thought George should die. He sacrifices himself saving the world. Killing these animals who had ill intentions to harm mankind. He sacrifices himself like a brave soldier. OK. But this is a movie! There’s a crocodile the size of a football stadium -- we’re not making Saving Private Ryan.

"My problem is I have a relationship with an audience around the world. For years I’ve built a trust with them that they’re gonna come to my movies and feel good. So every once in a while, you have to drop this card, which is: You’re gonna have to find another actor. We need to figure something out, otherwise I’m not gonna do the movie."

In the next SVU episode, airing in 2 weeks, Rollins takes the spotlight, so we can all skip it and just come to the ONTD post to talk shit even though we didn't watch it. Which is what most of you are doing anyway. Seriously though, Rollins ~races against time~ to rescue a girl who is being held against her will by her father. Guest starring as the creepy father is the amazing Ray McKinnon of Deadwood and Rectify fame, so maybe the episode will be worth watching after all.

A day after Abby Lee Miller underwent emergency surgery, the former “Dance Moms” star has reportedly been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Miller went into the hospital Tuesday with “excruciating neck pain” and underwent surgery just past midnight. But rather than an infection, the surgeon found cancer.

She was hospitalized last week with a thyroid issue, just two weeks after she was released from prison and entered a halfway house in California.

The reality star sentenced in May to one year and one day in prison, as well as a $120,000 judgement and a $40,000 fine, for bankruptcy fraud.

She was released four months early at the end of March.

Taylor Swift is eliminating ticket fees in a desperate bid to boost sales

$

Taylor Swift's Reputation tour begins in three weeks and no shows have sold out yet as a result of her new ticketing model designed to combat "rock and roll socialist pricing" in the music industry.

To help boost sluggish sales, she and Ticketmaster are offering her fans a Tax Day break on ticket service fees.
Some Swifties who purchased tickets early aren't happy about paid fees on tickets that were much already more expensive than the tickets being sold now.

If you're thinking about buying tickets, you might want to hold off even longer because industry analysts predict they will drop even lower as so many tickets are still available.

Her tour may not be selling out, but it's still likely to be the most profitable female tour of all time due to the gouging of her huge fanbase.

'You're The Worst's Aya Cash Talks #MeToo at the Vail Film Festival

ayaheader.jpg

Aya attended the 15th annual Vail Film Festival earlier this month. The festival focused on women in film for the second year in a row, a decision motivated by #MeToo and #TimesUp. Between her moments on stage and later interviews, Aya had the following (and more) to say:

  • Always felt uncomfortable with Hollywood's use of women as accessories, but has participated in objectifying herself for the sake of her career: "There's been times where I've bought into that demand of needing to be a certain thing or look a certain way or feel like I have to participate in order to get what I want, which is work. I've disappointed myself in those moments but I was kind of, like, well that's what I have to do right, right? And now I don't know if that's true."

  • With #MeToo, "a lot of people have had to start looking at everything differently. So while three years ago I might've been like, 'it's fine,' I have to look back and go, 'is it fine?'"

  • Last year she did a lot of movies by first-time filmmakers last, "almost all of which were women, which is such a good sign for our industry."

  • Acknowledges that things change for white women first: "That's also not universal. Obviously, I [am a] white woman who comes from a place of privilege... So I don't want to sort of speak as if [to say], 'we're all good.'"

The celluloid ceiling in numbers
Of the 100 highest-grossing films of 2017, only 24% were led by women; independent films account for 65% of these (x). Women made up only 18% of the behind-the-scenes roles (directors, producers, crew) for the 250 highest-grossing films of 2017 (x).

NPR: The 150 Greatest Albums Made By Women

$

- NPR readers have voted and selected the 150 greatest albums made by women between 1964 and 2018
- Joni Mitchell tops the list with "Blue" and has a total of 7 albums on the list
- Taylor Swift has four albums on the chart, and is one of two artists under 30 to rank in the poll's top 20
- Beyoncé has 2 albums on the chart with Lemonade coming in at No. 8, and Rihanna is not featured at all
View 5 highlights below with excerpts from individual readers' personal commentary:

3. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill- Lauryn Hill
"It came out my freshman year of college and as a young black woman away from home for the first time, this album was like a diary I didn't quite know how to write myself yet."

8. Lemonade- Beyonce
"A love letter to black women. Each song is so vibrant and different from the rest yet they all come together each telling a chapter in a story of love, redemption and what it means to be a black woman in America."

19. reputation- Taylor Swift
"A grower. Unexpectedly vulnerable, poignant, under the brash and aggressive armor."

32. Jagged Little Pill- Alanis Morissette
"I was married and had young daughters when I first heard this album and it was like a gut punch. In it was all the pent up anger and frustration I felt being a working woman/mother in a man's world."

42. When the Pawn...- Fiona Apple
"This album angered and confused the bro music journalists of the '90s by being as unapologetically aggressive as Riot Grrl or alt rock bands like Hole while being as 'pretentious' and 'kooky' and 'precious' as the female singer-songwriters they loved to pan out of the other side of their mouths. It's catchy, relentless, raw, deep, beautiful and contradictory."
