‘La Casa De Papel’ (AKA ‘Money Heist’) Becomes Netflix’s Most-Watched Foreign Original Series Ever

Morrissey remains Morrissey; self-publishes interview discussing Brexit, Hitler, and halal meat.

The man who you wish would just go away and shut up so you can enjoy The Smiths in peace self-published an interview on his own website and it's surprisingly introspective and full of insight!

Just kidding, you all knew as soon as you read the title that it would be a goddamn mess.

Morrissey goes on about how “halal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of Isis,” and how Sadiq Khan (mayor of London) "cannot talk properly!”

Morrissey on Journalism:
Now, all journalists are megastars and the only aim of their interview is to express and establish their own personal views, and to hell with whatever the interviewee says.

Morrissey on Brexit:
INTERVIEWER: You have been accused of supporting Brexit by the press. Why are they so concerned, do you think?
MORRISSEY: Accused is the correct word! It isn’t possible to be congratulated for supporting Brexit, is it? That should tell you all you need to know about the outstanding lack of neutrality within the British press. It’s all a pointless argument anyway because, as you’ve surely noticed, Brexit did not happen. The EU wouldn’t allow it to happen. It is now a dead issue. The people said Leave but the EU said no. People wanted to leave the EU because of the complete erosion of freedom under EU rules, and the fair-minded majority now see in even more frightening ways how very much they are hated by the EU, not to mention the British political elite.

Morrissey on voting:
INTERVIEWER: Did you actually vote to leave?
MORRISSEY: No, I haven’t ever voted. I don’t have sufficient faith in the circus of politics … and … you can see why! It is a moral disaster on every level. Even Tesco wouldn’t employ Diane Abbott.

Morrissey on Hitler:
And as far as racism goes, the modern Loony Left seem to forget that Hitler was Left wing! But of course, we are all called racist now, and the word is actually meaningless. It’s just a way of changing the subject.

Morrissey on Racism:
When someone calls you racist, what they are saying is ”hmm, you actually have a point, and I don’t know how to answer it, so perhaps if I distract you by calling you a bigot we’ll both forget how enlightened your comment was.”

Morrissey on Theresa May:
Theresa May was always a Prime Minister uninvited. She is incapable of leadership. She cannot say her own name unless it’s written down on a cue card in front of her. I recall her speech on Eid al-Adhar, and how she referred to it as a ”joyous celebration” … as millions of animals had their throats slit to mark the occasion. I wondered what kind of compassion she could possibly have. The answer is none.

Morrissey on Sadiq Khan:
London is debased. The Mayor of London tells us about ”Neighborhood policin ” - what is ‘policin’? He tells us London is an ”amazin ” city. What is ‘amazin’? This is the Mayor of London! And he cannot talk properly! I saw an interview where he was discussing mental health, and he repeatedly said ”men’el ” … he could not say the words ‘mental health’. The Mayor of London! Civilisation is over!

Morrissey on halal meat:
Furthermore, halal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of ISIS, and yet in England we have halal meat served in hospitals and schools! UK law is pointless!

Morrissey on Morrissey:
Nothing I say is provocative. They are just facts.

Zachary Quinto on Gay Representation, Theater vs Film, and More

Observer writer Brandon Katz recently talked to Zachary Quinto about his upcoming appearance in a limited Broadway engagement of The Boys in the Band (also starring Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, and Jim Parsons).

  • Quinto's first love is theater. Says it has a "devotional quality."

  • Discusses differences between theater, film, and TV experiences: "Theater is the only place that the actor is ultimately responsible for the audience’s experience."

  • Says the play shows "how far we’ve come and how far we have to go in terms of acceptance for the LGBT community but also acceptance within the community and acceptance of ourselves. ...Loving ourselves as human beings is not easier in the 50 years since the play was originally produced."

  • Mentions how notable examples of LGBT representation such as Moonlight, Call Me by Your Name and Love, Simon all feature straight actors playing gay roles. Every actor in The Boys in the Band is an out and successful gay man, as are the director (Joe Mantello) and producers (David Stone, Ryan Murphy).

  • Gay actors should get the opportunity to play straight characters, but being able to lean into his sexuality to create a character is exciting.

  • Talks about different directors he's worked with (Tony Kushner, J.J. Abrams, Ryan Murphy).

  • Hates cilantro for genetic reasons. (mte Zach)

  • Fictional character of choice for a dinner date: "Queen Elizabeth as portrayed by Cate Blanchett, just so I could have dinner with Cate Blanchett."

Starbucks will close more than 8,000 U.S. stores for an afternoon next month to train employees after two black men were arrested while waiting at one of the coffee chain’s Philadelphia stores last week.

The “racial-bias education” training is scheduled for May 29 for nearly 175,000 employees, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

“I’ve spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it,” Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said in a news release Tuesday. “While this is not limited to Starbucks, we’re committed to being a part of the solution. Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities.”

The Future of the NXIVM Cult and Allison Mack

$

0

"Raniere is safely behind bars, but as long as Mack is free to lead the women, they will likely hold together, held by the insane and destructive grip of an invidious, ruthless and diabolical individual – – no, not Keith Raniere – but Allison Mack."

Buffalo, NY arts/entertainment news outlet, Artvoice, just released another article this afternoon, stating that Allison Mack is the new defacto leader of the NXIVM cult, specifically naming names of other cult members (and their level of participation) and saying that Allison has and had an active role in the branding of cult members and came up with the idea of branding members herself.

"Allison Mack entered the dark cult of NXIVM after having been recruited by Smallville actress Kristen Kreuk. Kreuk escaped but left Mack behind."

"In Clifton Park, NY (sidenote: how many Upstate babies went to shows at Northern Lights?,) Raniere, who is now in federal custody, and Mack set up a scheme to brand human females to enslave them."

"With Raniere in prison, Mack is the head of the group. She is still trying to recruit women into the group and holding onto the current slaves with an iron hand."

"Silence is required of the women...to ensure this silence, every woman is required to provide "collateral" - confessions on audio or video to crimes or humiliating acts she or family members have done in life. She may betray family and friends. She may make false confessions. Wealthy women are required to give financial assets as collateral to Mack."

Mack’s collateral to Raniere was described as:

(1) a letter regarding Mack’s mother and father that would “destroy their character”

(2) a contract that transferred custody of any children birthed by Mack to Raniere, if Mack broke her commitment to Raniere

(3) a contract that transferred ownership of Mack’s home if the commitment to Raniere was broken

(4) a letter addressed to social services alleging abuse to Mack‘s nephews.

(TW for all these articles b/c they have images of the branding/mutilation and go into more graphic detail about the branding)

Noah Jupe to Play Young Shia LaBeouf in 'Honey Boy'

Noah Jupe, one of the kids from A Quiet Place, is set to star as young Shia LeBeouf in his new film Honey Boy. The upcoming film, which ONTD posted about a few weeks ago, is a semi-autobiographical story about Shia's life, written by Shia under a psuedonym. It's going to star Lucas Hedges as Shia in his Even Stevens stage, and Shia is going to play his own abusive father in both stages of the story. And yes, I realize none of that makes logical sense.

2590136Barracoon: The Story of the Last Slave by Zora Neale Hurston
NONFICTION > History
Expected publication:
May 8th

In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston went to Plateau, Alabama, to interview ninety-five-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women, and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was then the only person alive to tell the story of this integral part of the nation’s history. Hurston was there to record Cudjo’s firsthand account of the raid that led to his capture and bondage fifty years after the Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in the United States.

In 1931, Hurston returned to Plateau, the African-centric community three miles from Mobile founded by Cudjo and other former slaves from his ship. Spending more than three months there, she talked in depth with Cudjo about the details of his life. During those weeks, the young writer and the elderly formerly enslaved man ate peaches and watermelon that grew in the backyard and talked about Cudjo’s past—memories from his childhood in Africa, the horrors of being captured and held in a barracoon for selection by American slavers, the harrowing experience of the Middle Passage packed with more than 100 other souls aboard the Clotilde, and the years he spent in slavery until the end of the Civil War.

Based on those interviews, featuring Cudjo’s unique vernacular, and written from Hurston’s perspective with the compassion and singular style that have made her one of the preeminent American authors of the twentieth-century, Barracoon brilliantly illuminates the tragedy of slavery and one life forever defined by it. Offering insight into the pernicious legacy that continues to haunt us all, black and white, this poignant and powerful work is an invaluable contribution to our shared history and culture.
