Former Playboy playmate Karen McDougal says Donald Trump compared her to Ivanka during their affair

0

  • McDougal had a consensual affair with Trump in 2006 while he was married to his 3rd wife Melania and shortly after she had given birth to their son Barron.

  • McDougal also said that he compared her to his eldest daughter Ivanka Trump: "He’s very proud of Ivanka, as he should be. She’s a brilliant woman, she’s beautiful, you know, that’s his daughter and he should be proud of her. He said I was beautiful like her and, you know, ‘you’re a smart girl.’ There wasn’t a lot of comparing, but there was some. I heard a lot about her."

  • McDougal said that she did not find his comments odd at the time since he loved to brag about his daughter

  • Adult film star Stormy Daniels who also had a consensual sexual relationship with Trump in 2006 also claimed that he compared her to his daughter Ivanka

Three years later...a #throwback look at The Desired Effect era

0

Brandon Flowers took an 80's risk three years ago today, dropping his lead single “Can't Deny My Love. The single and album was produced by musical genius Ariel Rechtshaid (Sky Ferreira, HAIM, Vampire Weekend) and was released on March 23rd, 2015 officially kickstarting The Desired Effect” era. After The Killers decided to take yet another hiatus after “Battle Born,” Flowers was determined to get his new solo music heard on the radio by teaming up with Ariel Rechtshaid after listening to Vampire Weekend's newest album at the time. This time around Brandon recorded an album that was more in vein of the pop sound he adored growing up from his idols such as The Pet Shop Boys and The Police. The outcome? 2015's The Desired Effect and the follow up to his debut solo album and 2010's Flamingo. On the three-year anniversary of this album's era, let us have a #ONTDThrowbackThursdaylook at the singles, the visuals and overall impact from this underrated album! Perhaps I'll have to revisit Carly Rae Jepsen's E•MO•TION since both these albums were released around the same time and are simply 80's perfection! Talk about a King and Queen!

“Can't Deny My Love” — Released: March 23, 2015

“Still Want You” — Released: April 13, 2015

“Lonely Town” — Released: April 27, 2015

“I Can Change” — Released: May 4, 2015

Video description: The music video was inspired by the 1835 Puritan short story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Flowers plays the protagonist who leaves his wife played by actress Evan Rachel Wood for some unknown errand in the desert despite her plead that he stay. On his journey he meets a man with a black staff played by Richard Butler (of the Psychedelic Furs). Soon he discovers a group of townspeople assembled in robes carrying out witchcraft like ceremonies and discovers his wife among them. The townspeople notice him but as they approach the scene instantly vanishes and he awakes uncertain whether the previous night's events were real or a dream. He passes by several of the townspeople and returns to his wife.

Fun Fact: Originally, M Night Shyamalan was expected to direct the video in the Northeast but at the last second Robert Schober (My Chemical Romance, The Killers) was asked to film the video in Calico, San Bernardino County, California.

Video description: The black and white music video was directed by Warren Fu (Daft Punk, The Killers, Haim). The video portrays Flowers and two backup singers in black and white dancing and singing.

Video description: The music video follows around a young woman (Penelope Mitchell) while doing random things around her house with headphones on while dancing to the song. Someone is watching her from outside her window. The video is retro-styled and perhaps a nod to 80's slasher flicks and the classic Halloween by John Carpenter.

Fun Fact: This song is a spiritual continuation/sequel to The Police'sEvery Breath You Take.

Video description: The video features clips from Brandon's tour and live performance of the song at Brixton Academy situated in Brixton, south London, England.

Fun Fact:I Can Change” features a vocal recording of Neil Tennant (of the Pet Shop Boys) taken via a cell phone answering machine. Flowers has said of the recording: “We just talked about it, and we just had this gap in a verse and we needed to stick something in there. We were talking about it being a speaking part, and the greatest musical 'speaker' is Neil Tennant! His voice is like no other. I texted him if he would — he didn't even hear the song or the tempo or anything, I just texted him this line. I asked, will you send us a voicemail of yourself saying, 'When you're looking for a change'? And that was it. He sent us a voice memo, and we stuck it onto the track, from the phone. It was done within 20 seconds.”

Move over #Gamergate, #Comicsgate is here to even further destroy your faith in nerd culture

  • Basically, a movement on twitter who have dubbed themselves "#Comicsgate" (in the vein of #Gamergate) have taken to targeting other users who advocate for more diversity in comics.

  • Some use “#Comicsgate” in their bios on Twitter, but they are also found on YouTube, private Discord channels, and message boards used by far-right supporters of Donald Trump. what a shock

  • The movement is said to have vaguely started from 2016 where writer Chelsea Cain’s Mockingbird comic was canceled. #Comicsgaters were elated as Cain's work was considered 'feminist' and hounded her off Twitter.

  • A Marvel spokesman said, “Marvel has and will always promote an industry of inclusion and respect.”

  • Twitter commented: "if there is a violation of Twitter rules, we will take action."

  • DC and Youtube refused to comment.

Celebrities React to Anti-Abortion Bills In Mississippi & Ohio In Wave Attacking Reproductive Rights

0
0

– One anti-abortion bill has passed in Missisippi (but was temporarily blocked by a federal judge) while an even worse one is gathering support in Ohio.
– Two Republican Ohio Lawmakers have introduced Housebill 565 that would outright ban all abortion in the state, including cases of rape, incest, or when the pregnant life is in danger. The bill makes an "unborn human" a person under Ohio's criminal code regarding murder, manslaughter and homocide, and allows for wrongful death lawsuits.
– Rep. Ron Hood (R), one of the bill's sponsors, said it would be up to the prosecutur to decide what punishment to seek and who to charge. This means pregnant women seeking abortions could be charged with a crime. Lawmakers also hope this bill will be rejected on consitutional grounds so they can appeal and make the Ohio Supreme Court review their past decisions on abortion, or the Supreme Court itself potentially overturning Roe vs. Wade. Eighteen co-sponsors, marking twenty, currently support the bill. Ohio lawmakers have passed twenty anti-abortion restrictions since 2010.
– Hood said:"I believe life begins at conception so the goal of this bill is to first of all continue to get the word out that life does begin at conception and move the debate in that direction, and to protect unborn Ohioans from being aborted." Rep. Nino Vitale (R), said the absence of exceptions for the mother's life is to "save them both" and claimed the bill still provides immunity for physicians who directly/indirectly cause the death of a fetus. He (Vitale) also said, "Life isn't always giving us things by our choice and I don't want to put a woman through a second trauma after she's been through such an awful first one."
– NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio said the bill would allow doctors to be charged with murder, punishable by life in person or the death penalty. Executive Director Kellie Copeland said in a statement, "Anti-choice extremists from the Ohio Statehouse to the White House are lining up their dominoes to topple Roe v. Wade and punish those who seek or provide abortion care."The bill is still gathering support. But in another state, earlier...
– Less then a day before the bill in Ohio was introduced, Mississippi passed Housebill 1510, banning nearly all abortions after 15 weeks. This bill also includes no exceptions for incest or rape. The only exceptions are if there are health problems with the fetus, making it incompatiable with life at full term, or if the mother's life or "major bodily function" is threatened by the pregnancy.
– Mississippi has the highest infant mortality and premature death rates in the country, with the worst child clinical care and highest teen pregnancy. The bill was passsed by Republican Governor Phil Bryant, who promised in 2014 that,“[his] goal is to end abortion in Mississippi.” The state has only abortion clinic, the Jackson Women's Health Organization.
– The Center for Reproductive Rights sued to block the bill, saying it violates constitutional precedent – and on March 20th U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves blocked the bill for ten days. This will allow time for the court to consider further action.
– Ohio and Missisippi aren't alone – states like South Dakota don't have any clinics that allow for second-term abortions at all. In 2013, Arkansas attempted an abortion ban at 12 weeks. Mississippi now has the most strict abortion limit in the country while Ohio's bill looms, but another limit is on the horizon...
– Kentucky legislature is currently looking at Housebill 454, an 11 week ban for abortions that involve"bodily dismemberment, crushing, or human vivisection of the unborn child" (While this is referencing D&E - dilation and evacuation abortions, versus more common vacuum aspiration ones – the language is vague, which could make a dangerous precedent even worse).
– Pro-life democrat Democrat incumbent Dan Lipinksi won the Illinois primary against progressive newcomer Marie Newman Tuesday night. Lipinksi is the pro-chair of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus and was endorsed by his party. He was supported by the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.

ONTD, how would you persecute anti-abortion law makers? (If you live in any of these states, please call and email your representatives)

Prince Harry Allegedly Invites a Third of His (many) Former Flames to His Wedding

- He dated Chelsy for 7 years, Cressida lasted for 2....he allegedly cheated on both (multiple times). Ellie is believed to have shared a kiss with him at a polo party in 2016, after texting back and forth for two years.

- No word on if any accepted, but they're allegedly wanted there.

- Sadly still no word on whether the various club bunnies, vegas ladies, lingerie models, the lady who blew him once in Alberta, the Army Thots, or any of the other side pieces he used to cheat on them with will attend.

- Meghan's exes will NOT be invited...nor does she get a say in the matter, but "sources" think she won't mind.

- William had four(!) exes at his wedding. His father invited his mistress to his wedding, which greatly bothered his mother.

Would you marry/date this douche knowing he's (probably) a serial cheater who's (probably) rife with STDs, that will (probably) revert to his old womanising ways eventually, and will (probably) die being remembered as an overall mess?

His album's name and release date are yet to be revealed.

“I feel like every Star Wars thing that ever gets made has a big, loud response, because Star Wars fans are passionate, and that’s what makes them awesome... I don’t think it’s possible when you’re really telling a story you care about, and having it come from your heart — it’s just not possible to be intellectually processing, like, what everyone else wants, nor would it be a good thing, a healthy thing. I don’t think that’s a good way to tell a story.”

ONTD Original: 5 Things That Went Wrong With the S2 of Jessica Jones

Jessica_Jones_2

The much anticipated second season of our favourite Marvel heroine, Jessica Jones, premiered on 8th March to mixed reviews. Previously heralded as one of the best shows on Netflix, the second installment was met with decidedly less enthusiastic reactions. Poor character development and the lack of a good villain (especially when compared to David Tennant's Kilgrave) were two glaringly negative aspects. Let's take a closer look at what went wrong this season, and what the showrunners can do to improve on them.

WARNING: SPOILERS! Do not read if you haven't watched Season 2.

5. Weak Villain

janet_mcteer_potw
upload photo on site

While I thought Janet McTeer gave a fine performance (definitely on par with Tennant) the Big Reveal halfway through the season was more than a bit soapy and over the top. I mean, she literally pulled off a wig. The emotional resonance was there, but I've never been a fan of family members or loved ones mysteriously rising from the dead and neither do a majority of audiences nowadays. Aside from that, I found the IGH storyline to be cliched, unoriginal and way too drawn out.

4. Poor Character Development

jj4
upload photo on site

Characters like Jessica who are written to be surly, inward looking and rather mopey tend to suffer and regress with storylines that are too insular. Jessica's trademark sarcasm and dark sense of humour are intrinsic personality traits that are staples of her characterization; however, I felt that this season her dialogue and devil-may-care attitude grated and went from charmingly brusque to childish, immature and annoying - particularly with regards to the way she treated Malcolm. Dealing with trauma is one thing, but it's tiring to watch characters who not only do not grow but consistently refuse to.

3. Continuity? What Continuity?

Eight episodes of the Defenders came and went... with nothing to show for it in S2 of Jessica Jones. A big part of what makes Marvel's streak of success on the small screen as well as the big is its shared universe. What's the point of all the characters overlapping and teaming up together if they don't at least drop a mention of each other in their own series? Even a scene of Jessica reading Matt Murdock's obituary in the papers or at least a passing reference to Luke Cage (who appeared on TV for the first time in the previous season) would have been nice. We did get Jeri insisting on keeping Danny Rand as a client when she went solo - but that's it.

2. The Trish Problem

I mean... where do we even start with Trish? One of my favourite characters last season, she quickly rushed to the top of my Please-Kill-Them-Off list in the second. We all loved flawed characters, but Trish was just bratty, stupid, jealous, selfish, dishonest... there was barely anything left to like about her by the time the season ended. The fact that she was rewarded by the narrative by briefly suggesting she may have been left with powers was just insulting. Writers: please kill her off or make her the S3 villain (which would actually be interesting) as I can't ever see her relationship with Jessica come back from the bullshit she pulled. Not to mention what she did to Malcolm.

1. A Glaring Lack of Diversity

The treatment of POC on the show sadly has not improved - particularly for women. The main three female characters (Jessica, Trish and Jeri) are all white, and the black female cop who appeared as Detective Costa's partner was underdeveloped and given a brutal and undeserved death. This show doesn't celebrate women's strength - it celebrates white women's strength. Pryce Chang was portrayed as sleazy, amoral and untrustworthy - and the character of colour with the biggest role on the show was treated terribly by Jessica and Trish and by the narrative itself. Can we get #justiceformalcolm trending?

Cannes Festival bans selfies on the red carpet and Netflix movies

0
0

In an interview given by the French magazine "le Film Français", the festival director Thierry Fremaux announced new bans for the 71st edition of the Cannes Festival. Selfies on the red carpet will be banned and Netflix movies will not be able to compete in the official competition.

About red carpet selfies: Fremaux has stated that the experience of the red carpet and festival has been interfered by "the untimely disorder created by the practice of selfies". Fremaux has also stated his distate for the act calling it "ridiculous and grotesque".

About Netflix movies: After last year's controversial decision to let Bong Jun-ho's Okja and Noah Baumbach’s The Meyerowitz Stories run in the official competition, Fremaux has announced that Netflix movies will only be able to be showed out of competition. The Cannes Festival director said he knew the decision was controversial but was afraid the established directors would premiere their movies at another festival.
Fremaux also thought that Netflix would bend their rules for the festival: "Last year, when we selected these two films, I thought I could convince Netflix to release them in cinemas. I was presumptuous, they refused." At the time, Netflix tried to secure temporary permits to screen the films for less than a week in France, day-and-date to their online releases. That move wasn't permitted because of France's strict chronology laws and the two sides couldn't reach an agreement. This resulted in the festival having to change their rules, the movies shown in competition will now require a theatrical release in France.
