Fox’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Forget Gun Control, What About Video Game Control?

$

Tuesday morning on Fox & Friends, Brian Kilmeade and Elisabeth Hasselbeck took particular note of Aaron Alexis‘ apparent “obsession” with video games. This one detail about his life led Hasselbeck to question whether a closer examination of video games, their violent effects, and the frequency that individuals play them might be in order.

But before she did that, Hasselbeck and her co-hosts went after liberals trying to gin up the gun control debate over the Washington Navy Yard shooting, even as it turns out Alexis may not have had an AR-15 in the first place. Kilmeade argued this isn’t about gun control, it’s more about a disturbed individual with a history of agression and playing violent video games. Hasselbeck agreed, saying in conversations like these “we start to spread blame where possibly it doesn’t belong.”

A few minutes later, Hasselbeck spread the blame to video games. Steve Doocy brought up how a few other crazed killers, from Aurora to Sandy Hook, were also described as “addicted to video games.” This led Hasselbeck to suggest that rather than gun control, the country might want to examine video game control instead.

“What about frequency testing? I mean, how often has this game been played? Maybe there’s some sort of–and I mean, I’m not one to get in there and say monitor everything, but if this indeed is a strong link, right, to mass killings, then why aren’t we looking at frequency of purchases per person, and also how often they’re playing, and–maybe they time out after a certain hour.”

She's wreaked havoc on sensitive viewers with her racy music videos and now Miley Cyrus has inadvertently destroyed a landmark at a university in Michigan.

Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan proudly displayed a pendulum statue with a 42-inch steel ball hanging from a 50-foot cable, which bears uncanny resemblance to the prop used in the pop star's "Wrecking Ball" video.

Accordingly, students jumped at the chance to recreate the video, posing nude or mostly nude on the public statue.

However, the University took action and removed the structure, citing "safety reasons." It's unclear if it will ever return.

The Game & Drake Donate Money to Ohio Woman Who Lost 5 Children and Boyfriend in House Fire

Some of the biggest names in the rap game are giving back in a beautiful way.

Fans of The Game have been following the rapper's journey on Instagram as he participates in The Robin Hood Project, where he's vowed to donate a total of $1 million of his own money to those in need before Christmas, and his latest gracious giveaway got the attention of fellow artist Drake, who joined Game in giving an Ohio woman a total of $22,500.

"Meet Ana Angel, a mother of 5 who lost her 5 children & her boyfriend (father of her youngest) in a house fire early Sunday morning in Tiffin, Ohio," Game wrote with his Instagram post."I can deal with a lot of things but people losing their children is something that kills me every time. Ana Angel was working her shift at Burger King when she was informed by her manager Pat Boes that her home had burnt down with her family inside it & no one survived."

He continued, "I cannot imagine the feeling she had at that moment & when I 1st read this story yesterday I just happened to be on the phone with DRAKE @champagnepapi& told him about it so he offered to help alongside me........ So between me & DRAKE on behalf of@TheRobinHoodProject we split a $20,000 donation both donating 10k apiece as well as@51minds (Marrying The Game producers) choppin in with $2,500 so that Ms. Angel can afford the funeral costs for her 5 children & boyfriend as well as a point A to B vehicle."

Drizzy also posted Ana's story on his Instagram, and added, "What @thedocumentary is doing will never be forgotten. Honored to be able to help people along side my brother."

Game launched the project last week while on tour in Australia. He wrote, "The other day I posted this pic of an African child I met in Australia playing outside the grocery store. His story of his families hardships & struggles to get away from the terror they left behind touched me so I gave him what I had on me… Which was an Australian $20 bill."

Apparently, the rapper was not happy that he wasn't able to give the child more money, and the unsettling feeling is what sparked the idea for The Robin Hood Project.

"As the days passed, I thought about him over & over & over & the only thing that bothered me about that night was that I didn't have more on me to give him at that time. For some reason I just didn't bring more money from the hotel. Since I can't shake that feeling…

"I have decided to give $1,000,000 to people I come in contact with around the world everyday until Christmas. Don't even know if thats possible but I've set my heart on trying!!! I've created a new account specifically for those who would like to Follow @therobinhoodproject & support me on this journey."

So far, Game has donated money to 14 people, equaling a total $21,920. Only $978,080 to go.

Hayden Christensen designs clothing line for Canadian retailer RW&Co.

Anakin Skywalker is using the Canadian force to help him carve out a niche as fashion designer. "Star Wars" actor Hayden Christensen has partnered with Canadian retailer RW&Co. for his first clothing line, which is inspired by his Ontario farm.

The 32-year-old Vancouver native has been largely out of the limelight over the past few years (his last major release was "Vanishing on 7th Street" in 2010), having bought a farm outside Toronto about five years ago.
"It's my sanctuary," he told the Toronto Star in 2008.

Christensen's Ontario abode reportedly inspired his 20-piece collection -- coats, shirts, pants, knitwear and accessories in teal, plum and mustard shades -- which hits stores in November. Prices range from $69 to $249.
"First and foremost I always want to be comfortable," he said in a video promoting the new line. "Then you want to make sure you're presenting yourself in a way that reflects your personality."

This is the first time RW&Co. is collaborating with a celebrity designer. Christensen seems in tune with Canadian style, defining it as having "a functionality to everything, there's a practicality to everything."
And even though this is his first outing as a designer, Christensen is no stranger to the world of couture. He modeled for Louis Vuitton in 2004 and became the face of a Lacoste fragrance in 2009.

Kimberley Walsh Lifts Lid On Girls Aloud Rift

$

Girl’s Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh has admitted that she would probably never have chosen Nadine Coyle or Sarah Harding as friends, if she hadn’t ended up in a band with them.

The former Strictly Come Dancing finalist last toured with her bandmates earlier this year and the ‘Ten The Hits’ shows wrapped up in March, after positive reviews from critics and fans alike.

Since then, things have been fairly quiet on the Girls Aloud front, however in A Whole Lot Of History – Walsh’s new autobiography – the stunning singer opens up about tensions behind the scenes and admits that she only really feels close to Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts now.

She wrote: “Nicole, Cheryl and I have always remained close in Girls Aloud, I think we’d have been friends even if we weren’t in a band together. But I’m not sure that would have been the case for me with Nadine or even Sarah.”

“That’s not to say I don’t care about them or respect them.”

“They’re just very different from me and I don’t always understand where they’re coming from.”

Kim also opened up on the tensions that led the Girls Aloud splitting and admitted that the writing was on the wall from 2009, when Nadine moved to LA and got herself a manager.

She said: “Around the time when Girls Aloud filmed a cameo appearance for the movie St Trinian’s, which came out in 2009, things really got tricky.”

“Cheryl and I were in the Winnebago, getting ready, when our manager Hillary Shaw took a phone call.”

“When she hung up, she was all in a panic.”

“What’s wrong, Hills?” Cheryl said.

“Oh nothing,” Hills whispered. ‘It’s just Nadine’s bloody manager.’

“What? Nadine’s what?”

It turned out that Nadine had taken on someone to represent her as a solo entity, and we knew absolutely nothing about it. We felt like we’d been sucker-punched.”

Things were no different when the band reformed last year for one last tour. Kimberley says she, Cheryl, Sarah and Nicola knew they couldn’t continue as a group, however while Nadine refused to be part of the discussions or work on a press release with the girls, she later insisted that she didn’t want to split.

Kimberley said: “Nicola, Cheryl, Sarah and I tore ourselves apart about how we were going to announce to the fans that Girls Aloud was finally over.”

“All five of us knew that it was going to end, which is why we’d agreed to do one final tour.”

“An hour before the very last show, while we were still working on the official announcement, Nadine point blank refused to agree to any kind of press release — but we had to let the fans know somehow.”

“You can imagine our surprise when Nadine went public, saying that she had no part in our decision to split, and that she wanted the group to keep going.”

“It was quite a hard piece of news to swallow because she never said any such thing to the rest of us, and splitting up was what we’d always planned.”

Jessica Alba is Piperlime's guest editor, so she assembled a collection of her favorite items at the store for fall, and she discusses a few hot tips in the video below, such as:

  • pair a black dress with "fun shoes"

  • jeans are "essential"

  • hats don't have to be black

But seriously, her boutique picks from Piperlime (a few are pictured below) are super cute & practical.  The prices for these are less cute/practical, but you can also save $10 off $40 at the online store she co-founded, The Honest Company, with coupon code Pollinate10off40 (I don't know how that's related to fashion, but there you go).

Dane DeHaan Is BFFs With Daniel Radcliffe, but Not a Harry Potter Fan

Dane DeHaan plays a trouble-making intellectual opposite Daniel Radcliffe as beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings, and it's just the latest interesting role for DeHaan. The actor keeps racking up hot, eyebrow-raising roles — including the upcoming part of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and James Dean in the recently announced Life with Robert Pattinson. I sat down with DeHaan and a few reporters at the Toronto International Film Festival to chat about working with Radcliffe, as well as the coincidence of playing two roles James Franco has already played.

POPSUGAR: What was your experience working with Daniel Radcliffe?
Dane DeHaan: I had never seen a Harry Potter film before this. I wasn't honestly very familiar with Dan as an actor. I obviously knew who he was, but he was great from the start; he was even prepared in my audition. We became close friends fast. After meeting him and working with him that day, I immediately became excited to work with him.

PS: Why were you drawn to this project?
DD: I think that it's a story that I certainly hadn't heard before, and most people don't know, but everybody should, so that had a lot to do it with it. Plus, it was a really great script, and I just fell in love with the part and how complex and impossible it seemed. It just had all the elements of things I look for in a project.

PS: Were you familiar with beat poets like Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac before the film?
DD: I was certainly aware of who they were and what they stood for, and I had read some of their stuff, but it was more the story itself; it wasn't about being in a movie with characters whose books I really like. It was about telling this story, about how they became who they were in a really interesting and amazing way.

PS: What do you make of the fact that you are now playing two roles James Franco has already played (Harry Osborn and James Dean)?
DD: I don't really care. We're very different people. Our Harry Osborns will be very different. I'm sure our James Deans will be very different. I guess the only things that I see that we have in common is that we both had the opportunity to play both those parts. [Playing Dean] is going to be a really big undertaking for me, and I am really terrified, and it's going to be a huge challenge. Being terrified and being challenged — those are the two things that are important to me going into something. I'm really excited to tackle it and I have a bunch of time to prepare it, and I'm really looking forward to it.

PS: Or you could just choose James Franco movies.
DD: Oz the More Great and the More Powerful!

PS: How are you going to differentiate your James Dean?
DD: I'm going to look at James Dean. I'm going to study James Dean James Dean; I'm not going to look at James Franco James Dean. There's a whole wealth of material about the actual man. I think I'm going to stick with James Dean. And when I say James Dean, I don't mean the porn star James Deen [laughs].

PS: What else can you tell us about the film?
DD: It's kind of similar to [Kill Your Darlings] in that it's about who James Dean was as a person before he became famous. The person that people know as the icon James Dean — that's not who James Dean was. I think what's really interesting about the script is it shows how a normal person can be turned into an icon, even through just a series of photographs and some good work in movies. That's a really amazing thing. He's my favorite actor, and I will work tirelessly to honor that project as much as I can.

PS: Have you been thinking about how you'll pull off that famous James Dean hair?
DD: James Dean had the best hair in Hollywood. Yeah, I've been thinking about his physique and his face and his hair; everything.

Drake's Family Message: How 'Nothing Was The Same' Inspired Personal Reflection

$

"Heard once that in dire times when you need a sign, that's when they appear/ Guess since my text message didn't resonate, I'll just say it here."

Two days before Drake's third studio album, "Nothing Was the Same," surfaced on the Internet, he debuted one of the album's most personal songs, "Too Much," on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." "Don't think about it too much, too much, too much, too much/ There is no need for us to rush it through," Sampha's abrasive voice introduces an emotionally frustrated Drake. Sampha's hook is almost the antithesis of Drake's turmoil; the calm. "Done saying I'm done playing," Drake launches into rapid rhymes of the restlessness that success has struck upon him. But it's the second chorus where you hear Drake roll up his sleeves.

"From Love" is on repeat right now

Source

"My uncle used to have all these things on his bucket list/ And now he's acting like, 'Oh, well, this is life. I guess.' Nah, fuck that shit/ Listen man, you can still do what you want to do, you got to trust that shit/ Heard once that in dire times when you need a sign, that's when they appear/ Guess since my text message didn't resonate, I'll just say it here/ Hate the fact that my mom's cooped up in her apartment, telling herself that she's too stuck to get dressed up and go do shit like that's true shit."

After I fell upon the song itself, I found myself doing what many do to Drake's music: reminiscing of a close relationship, the kind you hardly ever speak of, to yourself or others, in order to avoid the acknowledgement of its internal impression. For me, it wasn't an ex, though -- it was my kinship with my older brother.

He has always played more than the role of a brother; he's been a best friend and father (that's another story). Our parents' room felt too dark to run to when I was scared, so I used to run to him, whose door was always open and marked by the moonlight. When my mother was sick, he packed my lunch daily with a week's worth of food, and held my hand at school when I couldn't speak a word of English (I still say my vowels in Spanish).

While I've held his hand too as we've grown up, it's not comparable -- and I'm always looking for chances to return the favor. He grew up a little sooner than he should, and he did so for me and my younger brother. He's never let me or my world slide off of his shoulders, no matter what weight of his own he was already carrying.

Drake's

"Too Much" is built off the foundation laid down by the "Take Care" gem "Look What You've Done." While the earlier song spotlights moments in which Drake's uncle and mother showed their support for fostering his dream by any means necessary, "Too Much" finds Drake blindsided by the negative effects of that dream.

Real Houswives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo getting a spinoff called 'Manzo'd With Children'!!!

Caroline Manzo may be joining the “Real Housewives” elite who has landed their own spinoff series.

Bravo has given the green light to a pilot starring “The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s” Caroline Manzo and her family, TheWrap has learned.

Under the working title, “Manzo’d With Children,” the pilot will follow the Housewife in her duties as the “ringleader of the crazy circus that is her Italian family.” Apparently, her adult children are driving her more nuts than ever: Albie is single and ready to mingle, Chris is eager to come up with the best idea since the stripper/car wash and Lauren is ready to let Vito put a ring on it.

The pilot will include Caroline’s sister, kooky Aunt Fran, who we met this season. She continues to bring in an assortment of barnyard buddies to the house. The show’s logline reads: “It’s one crowded house filled with personality, laughter and ham… in both pig and honey-baked forms.”

Manzo is an original cast member on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, which debuted in 2009. It airs its Season 5 finale on Sunday, Sept. 29. At 8/7c.

If the pilot is ordered to series, Manzo will join the growing group of women who have landed spinoff series, including New York’s Bethenny; Atlanta’s NeNe, Kim and Kandi; Beverly Hills Lisa; and Orange County’s Tamra.

Lisa Claims Former BFF Brandi Is Out To Get Her!

Former BFF’s Lisa and Brandi continue to spar during filming of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the British beauty is fuming that Eddie Cibrian‘s ex-wife is out to get her, because the younger reality TV starlet wants to be in the spotlight, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

Lisa just “can’t believe how Brandi has betrayed their friendship and trust. After Brandi tried to pin the blame on Lisa for confronting fellow housewife Kyle about allegations her husband had cheated on her, it was the end of their once very close friendship,” a show insider told Radar.

“Brandi has made no secret about how jealous she is of Lisa’s over the top lifestyle, beautiful mansion and happy marriage…she is now out to make Lisa look bad in hopes that she will get more camera time. It’s all about Brandi, 24/7, and sadly, Lisa is now recognizing that.”

It’s the latest salvo in the ongoing bitter feud between Vanderpump and Glanville.

Meanwhile, Lisa “just couldn’t believe that Brandi has gone so public with the troubles in their friendship. Writing a magazine column about it, really? Not very classy. Brandi is a foul-mouthed, low class wannabe,” the insider added.

“Lisa’s family had warned her about Brandi, but she always sees the good in people, and chose not to listen to them. She has no regrets, but don’t expect to see them being friends ever again. Once you cross Lisa once, you are cut-off from her world,” the source concluded. “This betrayal offended Brandi, who said that she was hurt by the actions.”

NeNe: ‘I am black-white, I know how to be black and can be very white’

Leakes has been able to parlay her notoriety as a reality star into a serious acting career, earning herself a gig on two scripted TV comedies, a spot as a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice, and now her own reality show spinoff, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding.

“You can expect this to be definitely a lot of drama… You’ll get a chance to meet Greg’s five children who no one has met on Real Housewives of Atlanta,” NeNe said in an interview with theGrio. “There were viewers that thought that I had gone Hollywood and I decided to break up with my husband and just break my family apart. So they will get to see that’s not true.”

The mother of two also weighed in on some of the popular misconceptions about her in the media.

“I used to hear early on, ‘oh she’s ghetto.’ And I’m like ‘where did they get that from? I’m not ghetto. I am black-white honey,’” NeNe said. “I know how to be black, and I can be very white if needed to be. I think that you have to know how to operate with different personalities. If you’re going to go into then boardroom then you have to put on your boardroom hat. If you need to get street with somebody you have to know how to put the street hat on.”

NeNe set the record straight and said reports of her having recent work done are false.

“I had surgery and I did it on-camera on Housewives. So if I was going to do something I would be very vocal about it. I’ve had my boobs done a couple of times. I sat right on-camera and did those things,” NeNe said. “First of all I don’t think I need a face-lift, so I would never. I don’t use Botox… my forehead is very wrinkled. I do believe that you should ‘tune up.’ If you feel like you need a ‘tune up’ then you get a ‘tune up.’ I am a black woman with good genes. It’s not like I need to be pulled and tucked every five minutes.

Léon Foucault celebrated in Google doodle

Google's latest doodle marks the birthday of Jean Bernard Léon Foucault, the French physicist and inventor of a pendulum that demonstrated the rotation of the earth.

Foucault is also credited with making an early measurement of the speed of light and with the discovery of eddy currents: electric currents induced within conductors by a changing magnetic field in the conductor, which are sometimes called Foucault currents.

The son of a publisher, Foucault was born in Paris in 1819, where he initially studied medicine but soon switched to physics. Initially, the primary focus of his research was into LJM Daguerre's photographic processes, while he was also an assistant to the bacteriologist Alfred Donne in the course of his work on microscopic anatomy.

After collaborating with his fellow physicist Hippolyte Fizeau on a series of investigations into the intensity of the light of the sun, he made his name at the Panthéon in Paris in 1851 with a demonstration that involved suspending a 67-metre, 28kg pendulum suspended from the building's dome.

The plane of its motion, with respect to the earth, rotated slowly clockwise. The experiment sparked a pendulum-mania across Europe and the United States, and crowds were attracted to observe so-called "Foucault pendulums" in major cities on both sides of the Atlantic.

Later achievements included devising a method of testing the mirror of a reflecting telescope to determine its shape, the so-called "Foucault knife-edge test".

By way of recognition for his achievements, Foucault was made a member of the Bureau des Longitudes, of the Royal Society of London and of the Legion d'Honneur.

The physicist, whose name is one of 72 French scientists, engineers, and mathematicians engraved on the Eiffel Tower, died in Paris in 1868.
