Male Film Critic Weighs in on Alicia Vikander's Sex Appeal in 'Tomb Raider'

0
0
A keen-eyed Philly Voice reader highlighted this paragraph from a review of the new Tomb Raider film published yesterday. Philly Voice contributor Jerome Maida felt the need to compare Alicia Vikander and Angelina's Jolie's body types to explain why the new Tomb Raider is inferior.

If you click on the link to the review (here's a link that won't give them pageviews), the part of the review highlighted in the tweet has been excised, with a note added to the bottom of the review stating it was removed. The review itself? Actual garbage that summarizes bits of the plot in a dimissive manner, but provides no coherent criticisms of the film.

People have been dragging the hell out of this dude, obviously:

*This Sunday's episode of Family Guy, "Send in Stewie, Please" will air completely commercial free thanks to a sponsorship by Playstation.

*The episode, in which Stewie meets with a child psychologist (Ian McKellan) and experiences emotional revelations about himself, was originally set to air with limited commercial interruptions due to the episode length, but Playstation decided to sponsor the episode to remove all commercials

*A 60 second commercial for Playstation's God of War will air before and after the episode.

THE HOUSE
by Christina Lauren

Gavin tells Delilah he’s hers—completely—but whatever lives inside that house with him disagrees.

After seven years tucked away at an East coast boarding school, Delilah Blue returns to her small Kansas hometown to find that not much has changed. Her parents are still uptight and disinterested, her bedroom is exactly the way she left it, and the outcast Gavin Timothy still looks like he’s crawled out of one of her dark, twisted drawings.

Delilah is instantly smitten.

Gavin has always lived in the strange house: an odd building isolated in a stand of trees where the town gives in to mild wilderness. The house is an irresistible lure for Delilah, but the tall fence surrounding it exists for good reason, and Gavin urges Delilah to be careful. Whatever lives with him there isn’t human, and isn’t afraid of hurting her to keep her away.

WITH MALICE
by Eileen Cook

It was the perfect trip…until it wasn’t.

Eighteen-year-old Jill Charron wakes up in a hospital room, leg in a cast, stitches in her face and a big blank canvas where the last six weeks should be. She discovers she was involved in a fatal car accident while on a school trip in Italy. A trip she doesn’t even remember taking. She was jetted home by her affluent father in order to receive quality care. Care that includes a lawyer. And a press team. Because maybe the accident…wasn’t an accident.

As the accident makes national headlines, Jill finds herself at the center of a murder investigation. It doesn’t help that the media is portraying her as a sociopath who killed her bubbly best friend, Simone, in a jealous rage. With the evidence mounting against her, there’s only one thing Jill knows for sure: She would never hurt Simone. But what really happened? Questioning who she can trust and what she’s capable of, Jill desperately tries to piece together the events of the past six weeks before she loses her thin hold on her once-perfect life.

FLESH
by Richard Laymon

WWE Renames Fabulous Moolah Battle Royale Amidst Heavy Backlash

0
0

WWE named the first Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania in memory of The Fabulous Moolah in spite of allegations of abusive behavior by Moolah toward her students and performers who worked for her Girl Wrestling Enterprises. You can read about this here

Snickers, one of the sponsors, said about the topic: “We were recently made aware of the World Wrestling Entertainment Inc’s (WWE) decision to honor a former wrestler during the upcoming WrestleMania 34 event. As a principle-based business that has long championed creating inclusive environments that encourage and empower everyone to reach their full potential, this is unacceptable. We are engaging with the WWE to express our disappointment.

Now WWE has decided to change the name: “After further consideration, we believe it’s best to proceed with the name ‘WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.’ What remains most important is that this historic match is part of WWE’s unwavering commitment to the Women’s Division.”

Jennifer Lopez opens up about her own Me Too Moment

0
0

Jlo said " Have I been told by a director to take off my shirt and show my boobs? Yes, I have. But did I do it? No, I did not." Lopez said. "When I did speak up, I was terrified. I remember my heart beating out of my chest, thinking, 'What did I do? This man is hiring me!'" Jennifer's hesitation and prompt reluctance to display her breasts for the director was her inner boricua saying hell to the fuck no. "In my mind I knew the behavior wasn't right," she says. "It could have gone either way for me. But I think ultimately the Bronx in me was like, 'Nah, we're not having it.'"

Jlo is the face of the latest Guess campaign. Former Guess girl Kate Upton accused Guess co-founder Paul Marciano of sexual misconduct, the company is still investigating Upton's claims.

Jlo resumes her residency in Planet Hollywood until September.

Nina Dobrev returns to television (maybe)!

0
0

Nina Dobrev has been cast as the lead in CBS' new comedy Fam.

The plot:
Her character, Clem, is former hot mess who now seems to have her life on track. When her boyfriend Jay proposes, everything seems perfect. There's just one problem: she's told everyone that her estranged father is dead when he's in fact still alive and she's just embarrassed of him. When her half-sister Shannon unexpectedly shows up, Clem's lie is about to be exposed, putting her relationship with Jay in jeopardy.

This will be Nina's first role as a series regular since The Vampire Diaries. She's had roles in movies like XXX: Return of Xander Cage and Flatliners.

It's only a pilot, so it remains to be seen if the show will be picked up.
