The Beaches - Absolutely Nothing (Promotional Video)

Called the breakout band of the 2013 by Toronto’s NXNE festival and possessing a runaways-style cred and authenticity that is seldom seen today; check out a sweaty, raw live performance at a venue near you.

Hailing from the east side of Toronto, The Beaches are an all female Indie Rock band, taking their cues from such artists as Patti Smith, Elastica and The White Stripes. The Beaches write and perform with an authentic, biting and hooky sound. Their debut single and Maxxis directed video for Loner has been heavily supported at MuchMusic as well as Western Alternative Radio in Canada and KXLU Los Angeles. The second single ‘Absolutely Nothing’ was awarded the MuchFact grant for video production with the release slated for Summer 2013.

The self-titled EP, which was produced by Canadian rock luminary Raine Maida and released in late-May 2013, has had more than 5 stellar international music blog reviews thus far. Two additional fashion forward cutting edge videos have been shot by UK photographic icon Rankin on a recent trip to the UK, where Loner had been chosen as the backing track for French Connection’s Fall Winter International 2013 Ad Campaign.

Tyra Banks' Model Photos Show Her Amazing Ability To Transform

As Twiggy

We've seen Tyra Banks teach her "Top Model" protégées the art of transformation for 20 cycles now, so it's nice to see the model practice what she preaches... and then some.

When Banks released three images of her uncanny supermodel impersonations on Saturday, we were stunned. Little did we know, she had 12 more up her sleeve, all part of a photography exhibition entitled "15" (named for the 15 models she channels). Styled by Bank's stylist, Ty-Ron Mayes, the Udo Spreitzenbarth-lensed shots are "un-retouched" and each more stupefying than the last -- Tyra's spot-on portrayals are borderline creepy.

Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Lauren Hutton, Jerry Hall, Iman, Kate Moss, Twiggy, Brooke Shields, Claudia Schiffer, Carmen Dell’Orefice and Grace Jones all made the list of iconic supermodels imitated in the exhibition. But modern fashion darlings like Kate Upton, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne were also deemed worthy of a Banks rendering. Oh, and of course she threw in a nod to her own early modeling days.

You can catch Banks' supermodel homage from now until November 9th at Jack's Studios -- or you can just check out all 15 photos below. Are these flattering or a little eerie?

Take Fierce Style Points From Tom Hiddleston

$

Tom Hiddleston lends himself to a kind of gothic coolness. He plays rather "gothic" characters in both his latest movies: Thor: The Dark World (in which he reprises his role as the pale-faced, leather-wearing Loki) and Only Lovers Left Alive (in which he portrays a mournful vampire called Adam). Used to playing the part of villain and vampire, Hiddleston will continue this gothic vein with an upcoming role in a Guillermo del Toro ghost story. Acting aside, Hiddleston is one of Britain's most fashionable young men and a notable wearer of the three-piece suit. At Cannes this year, he appeared with Tilda Swinton and Jim Jarmusch to debut Jarmusch's "crypto-vampire" movie in a bright blue Alexander McQueen three-piece and an open-collared white shirt. The way he posed for the crowds of paparazzi in his stunning blue suit, he might as well have electrified the very air he moved through! How to make one's garments stand out on the red carpet next to Tilda Swinton? Wear an electric blue three-piece like the one below...

Hiddleston's other major work recently is that PBS advert in which he teases Cookie Monster with a plate of cookies in order to teach him self-control. Adorable to say the least, his suave British accent is only one reason to watch it; another is the look on the young man's face when the muppet's furious cookie-scoffing causes crumbs to explode on his fine black suit.

Hiddleston gave us another great look recently in some back-stage photos from the Toronto International Film Festival. He wore a classy navy three-piece with a four-buttoned vest, the bottom button left undone as tradition dictates. Paired with an unusually shaped gray tie, Hiddleston proved once more his ability to blend class and innovation. Go see one of his movies and prepare to fall in love with his icy cool style.

Cannot decide whether this life-ruining bastard looks good with clothes on or off...

But what say you, ONTD Hiddlestoners?

X-Factor's Alex & Sierra Are Arrangement Thieves

Alex and Sierra are two college students from Orlando, Florida, who have been dating for two years. New judge Kelly Rowland could tell immediately they were in love, and we have to agree. These two cuties make some beautiful music together — but we don’t just mean that euphemistically. On top of the fact that they’re an adorable couple, they also make an excellent singing duo. If you don’t believe us, you’ve gotta check out their audition.

If their acoustic take on the popular Britney hit sounds familiar to you, you might be a fan of The Voice. Season 3’s Melanie Martinez performed a very similar arrangement during the Blind Auditions round (and had similar success with it). In fact, Sierra’s voice reminded us an awful lot of Melanie’s!

Ylvis' Viral Hit 'The Fox' Debuts On Hot 100 at #29

Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis' viral sensation "The Fox," which has taken the Internet by storm in recent days, debuts at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, fueled almost exclusively by its online traction. It's the highest-bowing song on the tally this week.

During the Hot 100's tracking week, "The Fox" drew 4.8 million U.S. YouTube streams. To date, it's racked 17.8 million global YouTube views, has been shared over 71,000 times across various social media platforms and continues to show a daily increase in streams (see graph below).

On the Streaming Songs chart, "The Fox" launches at No. 3. Since the survey was revised in March to include U.S. YouTube streaming data, only three other titles have had better debut ranks. Baauer's "Harlem Shake" and PSY's "Gentleman" each debuted at the summit, while One Direction's "Best Song Ever" debuted at No. 2. Drake's "Started From the Bottom" is the only other song to enter at No. 3 in that span.

While its minimal early radio airplay barely factor into its Hot 100 points sum, some U.S. stations have sampled "The Fox." It received 50 plays nationally last week (Sept. 4-10), according to Nielsen BDS, including highs of four each on dance-formatted KNHC Seattle and pop station KSAS Boise, Idaho.

Ylvis is composed of brothers Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker. "The Fox" was created to promote the premiere of the duo's show "Tonight With Ylvis" on Tuesday (Sept. 10) with accomplished songwriting/production team Stargate. The duo (Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen) has co-written and -produced 10 Hot 100 No. 1 hits, beginning with Ne-Yo's "So Sick" in 2006 through last year's "Diamonds" by Rihanna. Beyonce, Katy Perry and Wiz Khalifa have also collaborated with Stargate for Hot 100 toppers.

"The Fox" isn't Ylvis' first music video. Check out, for example, the twosome's "Stonehenge," which has yielded 1.3 million YouTube views.

In a new radio interview on Wednesday, Days of Our Lives star Jen Lilley (Theresa) revealed that the new Will Horton has been cast on Days of Our Lives. On "Lather Up with Littany," Lilley announced that actor Guy Wilson has joined the soap. DAYS had to recast the role when Chandler Massey decided to depart the series.

While talking about playing a recast on a soap (Lilley played Maxie on General Hospital for a year), Lilley said, "I'm very worried for Guy Wilson, who is replacing Chandler. It's really hard to be a recast. I completely understand from the audience's point of view why it's hard."

Wilson hinted at the news on his Facebook page on Tuesday when he wrote, "some exciting news... can't talk about it just yet... but stay tuned..."

Back in 2006, Wilson played "Teen-Luke" on General Hospital. His other credits include appearances in Castle, Major Crimes and Breaking Bad.

Wilson's film credits include Sighting, The Midnight Game, Almost Kings and The Open Door.

Massey will continue airing as Will on DAYS until the end of the year. DAYS has not officially announced the casting of Wilson but expect that soon.

Welcome to Thunder-kitchen!

MasterChef's season four finale pitted two highly-skilled and competitive chefs against each other to battle it out for $250,000, a cookbook and the title of the best home cook in America. Luca Manfe, 31, an Italian restaurant manager, and Natasha Crnjac, a 26-year-old stay at home mom from San Diego, cooked a  three-course meal for the Fox reality hit's judges Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich.

Three courses, two finalists, but only one winner emerged by finale's end. So who took home the season four trophy: Luca or Natasha?

Meet your winner: Luca, who is the American version of MasterChef's first male winner! But it wasn't an easy win as Ramsay even asked his fellow judges, "For the first time, should we make it a draw?" But Elliot admitted "had the slightest of edges," thanks to his perfectly cooked short ribs in the entrée round. "I came here from another country because America is the best place in the world," Luca said, "and now I am America's MasterChef. This is so special."

We chatted with Luca at Fox's Fall Premiere party earlier this week, where he told us what fans could expect from his cookbook. "Being Italian I see that there are a few Italian chefs out there, but no one hundred percent authentic like me who just came off the boat," he shared. "So for me, it was like trying to bring the traditional and classic dishes that I grew up eating and bring it to the American public because most of them they are a little bit unknown."

And Elliot told us he was happy with the outcome of season four. "The best Chef does win. I don't think we've ever walked away and gone, ‘Man I think so-and-so should've got it.' This is one where I think everyone at home is going to see it and go, ‘Yes, this is right.'" But he had high praise for both competitors, calling Natasha "formidable" and highlighted Luca's "passion and and heart and soul."

Do you think Luca should have won? Sound off in the comments!

iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C: Celebs React to Apple's Latest Smartphones

Another day, another Apple iPhone! And in this case, make that two. Apple introduced two new iPhones -- the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C -- on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in addition to a redesigned mobile operating system, iOS 7.
The iPhone 5S includes a new iSight camera, faster wireless connection and its most forward-thinking feature yet -- a new fingerprint identity sensor. The built-in Touch ID will allow consumers to unlock the iPhone, and make purchases from the iTunes store, App Store, and the iBooks Store with just his or her fingerprint. It comes in either gray, silver or gold, while the iPhone 5C, encased in plastic, comes in more playful colors but doesn't boast the fingerprint feature. (With a contract, the iPhone 5S is priced at $199/16GB, $299/32GB, $399/64GB. The iPhone 5C will be $99 for 16GB and $199 for 32GB.)

Celebs were quick to join in on the social media chatter about the highly-anticipated new gadgets, which go on sale Sept. 20.

Zach Braff: "The New iPhone5s, because your fingerprints are the only thing the NSA doesn't have yet."

Jason Biggs: "Marion Jones already had to give back her gold iPhone :("

Wil Wheaton: "If you wouldn't willingly give your fingerprints to the state without cause, you probably don’t want the new iPhone."

Skylar Astin: "Watching the new iPhone's new video and salivating. I want. I need. My current phone su- ::error this tweet couldn't be sent::"

Jon Cryer: "Wait, so Apple has a phone w/ a fingerprint sensor built in an IT WILL ONLY HELP YOU UNLOCK THE PHONE AND USE ITUNES?!? That's just stupid."

Juan Pablo Galavis: "What do you THINK about APPLE having your FINGERPRINTS on their SYSTEMS?"

Chrissy Teigen: "I swear to god if the next iPhone has another new charger I'm going to fucking.....buy that Iphone and complain about the new charger"

Ellen DeGeneres: "You guys, I just heard the new iPhone can read your mind. I didn't even type this. I thought it."

Jimmy Fallon: "There's a new iPhone app that breaks up with your significant other. It's called 'Words with Let's Just Be Friends.' #fallonmono"

Sean Lowe: "Laugh now but my new iPhone necklace is going to make me millions!"

Spencer Pratt: "I hope #iOS7 comes with some new #emoji icons!"

Molly Sims (via MollySims.com): "All I can say is that I'M IN LOVE!…I cannot wait until the fall when I can download the real deal on my own iPhone without fear of total phone apocalypse."

Our Dream 'Hey Arnold!' Cast In Real Life

$
0
0
r-HEY-ARNOLD-NICKELODEON-large570

Nickelodeon nostalgia, anyone?

From 1996 to 2004, kids got their kicks from Craig Bartlett's cartoon "Hey Arnold!" The show focused on the quietly cool fourth grader Arnold, his grandparents' city dwellings and Arnold's kooky classmates.

"Hey Arnold!" covered a laundry list of adolescent issues -- relentless bullies, lovestruck crushes and a grueling search for adoptive parents. These relatable storylines struck a chord with audiences and cemented the show's cult status so much that a feature film, "Hey Arnold! The Movie," was released in June 2002

Sure, 20-somethings can catch their favorite football head as part of "The '90s Are All That" TeenNick lineup. But what if we took the show's influence a step further?

In the spirit of a fellow forever missed "funnie" Nicktoon, we dreamed up the ultimate Hollywood cast to portray the P.S. 118 gang.

1. Arnold: Disney Channel veteran Sterling Knight is our pick for Arnold. Thanks to his roles in "Sonny With a Chance" and "17 Again," Knight has the experience to portray an angsty, imaginative kid. He resembles Arnold's blond, boyish appearance, too. As for the football head? Not so much (but then again, we've never seen a real prolate spheroid-shaped skull).

o-ARNOLD-570

2. Gerald Johanssen: There's no better way to put it -- Jaden Smith IS Gerald Johanssen. Both guys ooze coolness in whatever they do. They're laid back, a bit mysterious and musically inclined. Not to mention that hair. Jaden's got this character on lock.

o-G-570

3. Helga Pataki: Hands down the most entertaining "Hey Arnold!" character is Helga. DOY. AnnaSophia Robb would do incredible justice to the lovelorn bully with a secret lust for Arnold. Robb could channel her competitive, bratty Violet Beauregarde role for Pataki tomboy inspiration ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," anyone?). Plus, Violet loved chomping gum and Helga had a secret Arnold shrine made of the sticky stuff.

o-HELGA-570

4. Phoebe Heyerdahl: Hailee Steinfeld emulates the mature-beyond-her-years vibe akin to Phoebe. Better known as Helga's often-ignored sidekick, Phoebe is small but mighty. No problem ... Oscar nominee Steinfeld has the range to pack a powerful punch at only 16 years old. Don't forget that Phoebe crushed on Gerald. Jaden and Hailee would be SO cute together.

o-PHOEBE-570

5. Harold Berman: More talk than walk, Harold is the second toughest bully of the group. He bosses kids around with backup from Sid and Stinky, though he is a self-proclaimed Mama's boy. Heck, Helga usually left Harold cowering in the streets. Jonah Hill captures the nagging, self-absorbed teen (read "Superbad") and has childish whining down pat.

o-S-570

6. Stinky Peterson: Oh Stinky. His Southern drawl made him a ladies' man, dating the likes of Helga, Gloria and Lila. The pumpkin growing, lemon pudding lover occasionally weirded us out, which is why Kodi Smit-McPhee is our Peterson pick. The "Let Me In" actor convincingly played creepy so we reckon he'd pull off Stinky's strange ways.

o-T-570

7. Eugene Horowitz: Poor Eugene. He's the class jinx: forever unlucky, socially awkward yet painfully optimistic despite being a full-blown geek. "Modern Family" jokester Nolan Gould is a Mensa member and graduated from high school at 13! He's the nerd Eugene aspired to be.

o-E-570

8. Rhonda Wellington Lloyd: Rhonda, Rhonda, Rhonda. She's the wealthy, arrogant fashionista of the class. It would be entertaining to see Vanessa Hudgens take on this stuck-up persona, a true departure from her sugary sweet "High School Musical" days. Hudgens is also a trendsetter in her own right!

o-R-570

9. Sid: Gerald's lead-in man "from kid generation to kid generation." Sid makes up a troublemaking trio with Stinky and Harold though he is quite paranoid over his actions. He's a little spastic and freaks out after random events, such as thinking he killed the school principal from a soap-carved voodoo doll. The bizarre situations Sid finds himself in and his explosive, odd behavior are reminiscent of Drake Bell's "Drake and Josh" stint.

o-SID-570

10. Ruth McDougal: Arnold's crush in the first season was this sixth grade braceface. She was perfection in his eyes. "Shake It Up" actress Bella Thorne is familiar with stressful school drama and she's gorgeous, to boot. We could totally see Sterling Knight pining for the Disney darling.

o-RUTH-570

11. Grandma Gertie: Grandpa Phil's Pookie! She's a seasoned martial arts master, wears themed outfits and is generally off her rocker. Only Cloris Leachman could handle Grandma Gertie's craziness!

o-GRANDMA-570

12. Grandpa Phil: Grandpa Phil is the goofy voice of reason to Arnold, aka "Short Man." He was also a WWII veteran, champion Chinese checkers player and all-around stand out at Sunset Arms. Hollywood legend Peter O'Toole could pull off Phil's kooky charisma and surprising personality depth.

o-GRANDPA-570

Get to know 'Instructions Not Included' star Eugenio Derbez

$

Over the weekend, Mexican comedy Instructions Not Included continued its incredible box office run, finishing in third place in only 717 theaters. The film, about an Acapulco playboy who’s forced to raise a daughter he didn’t know he had, has now grossed over $21 million, and thanks to its “A+” CinemaScore grade, it’s poised to surpass Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth as the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever in the U.S.

We sat down with Instructions‘ writer/director/star Eugenio Derbez to get his perspective on its runaway success north of the border.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Well, you must be having a great week.
EUGENIO DERBEZ: I’ve been going back and forth from L.A. to Miami, Chicago to New York, but I’m really, really happy. Yesterday [I] was [on] Larry King, and today Jimmy Fallon, so I couldn’t ask for more.

Where did you get the idea for this movie?
I actually was inspired after watching Life Is Beautiful. After I saw that movie I said, “I need to do something like this with a different plot but the same heart.” So I started writing a beautiful story — a love story between a dad and his daughter — and we finally found the balance after 12 years. It took 12 years to raise the money, because it’s very expensive. In Mexico, the average for a film is $2.5 million, and this one was $5.5 million. So while we were raising the money, we were writing and rewriting and reading over and over.

You’ve created so many shows that most American audiences probably aren’t familiar with. What would you say you’re most known for in Mexico?
Oh my god, I’ve done such a lot of things. Maybe my characters — I have a lot of characters on my TV show. When I walk down the street, even here in the U.S., they are always saying my catchphrases of my characters, and they shout at me with my catchphrases.

Did you expect the movie to find a large audience in the United States?
Well, I’m gonna be honest. When we were writing the script, I always think about doing the crossover with this film. Always. But when we finally released the film, I never thought it was going to be this big. I had a hunch and the hope that something was going to happen, but I never thought it was going to be this big.

Have you been trying to cross over into the United States?
Before? Yeah. I did a TV series with Rob Schneider last year [¡Rob!], and I thought that was my crossover, but it wasn’t. I did it, but then I went back to Mexico and nothing else happened. Before that, I did Jack and Jill with Adam Sandler. Before that, I did a Broadway play here in the U.S. [That show, Latinologues, had a five-month run in 2005.]

Are you friends with Adam Sandler? He gets referenced a couple times in your movie.
Well, I live in Mexico and he lives in the U.S., but every time we can, we have some phone calls or something. Adam just sent me a gift yesterday to my room. It was a beautiful, beautiful bottle of champagne. He’s such a nice guy.

Why do you think this film is connecting the way it is with people?
I think nobody has a formula for success, but I really studied different kinds of films: Life Is Beautiful, Amelie, Cinema Paradiso, Little Miss Sunshine, Bicycle Thief, all these heartfelt films, and then we added a lot of comedy. Then we took out a little bit. Then we finally found a perfect balance between comedy and drama. [Audiences] are laughing, then crying, then laughing again. There’s a time where they laugh and cry at the same time. It’s weird. I never expect the audience to connect in the same way that they do.

You are such a huge star in Mexico. I mean, you had your wedding telecast live. [His wife, Alessandra Rosaldo, plays Renee in Instructions.] Is coming to the United States refreshing or weird?
It’s both things. It’s refreshing because I can walk, I can feel free. Although the Latinos in the U.S., they know me because my shows are running here through Univision. So I feel more free to walk on the streets, but at the same time, it’s weird because every time I have a meeting with some producer or director, they don’t know me, so I have to struggle like I did 25 years ago in Mexico. It’s like starting over again. It’s weird, but it’s funny. I like it.

Do you think the success of Instructions Not Included is going to kick-start more productions that reach out to the Latino audience in the United States?
I think so, and I hope so. Instructions Not Included is proving that there is a huge Latin market that needs a special project. They love seeing their own people, they want to see themselves onscreen. In my case, I know them pretty well. I know what they laugh at. I think it’s going to open a lot of doors, this movie.

It’s very rare for a movie to open in the U.S. before Mexico. Why’d you do that?
Usually, it’s always the other way around. This time was an experiment. I’ve got to tell you, I was against it. I really fought for not opening first in the U.S. … because I was afraid if it was not a good opening, it would affect the Latin American market. But now we have amazing publicity in Latin America and Mexico after this huge success. It was perfect! But we never thought it was going to be this way.

Pantelion Films says the film is playing well with crowds who go to the movies after church. Was any part of you trying to appeal to Christian audiences?
No, no, no. Actually, we have a lot of irreverent humor. When I heard they were talking about church, I thought, “I don’t want the audience to think it’s going to be something for a grandma or a grandpa.” It’s for everyone. We have some very funny scenes, some irreverent scenes with a different kind of humor, and I think teenagers can enjoy the film as well as seniors, kids, everyone. I’ve seen every kind of people inside the theaters.

I know it’s only been a week, but do you already have another project lined up after this?
I want to direct another film and maybe that is going to happen next year. But in the last two days, I’ve been receiving tons of new offers, so I have to evaluate what I’m going to do. Sleep, first of all.

Is it true you’ll be directing a new version of Saturday Night Live in Mexico?
Well, we bought the rights, and we want to make SNL Mexico, so we’re working on it. We’re just in pre-production. And this is going to take place maybe next year.

Would you star in it?
No, they told me that they want be to be like the Mexican Lorne Michaels … with a different salary, of course.

Brynne Larson, 18, Tess Sherkenback, 18, and her sister Savannah, 21, have been performing exorcisms since high school under the leadership of Brynne's father Rev. Bob Larson, who claims to have performed over 15,000 exorcisms.

BBC3's clip of the upcoming documentary "Teen Exorcists," shows the poised and photogenic trio earnestly talking to filmmaker Dan Murdoch about why they consider London a "center of witchcraft."The Arizona girls headed to London as part of their first international tour with Rev. Larson, and they believe that J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter series is responsible for an upsurge of occult activity in the U.K.

Savannah seriously weighed in on why London is full of dark forces, explaining, "I think it's been centuries in the making, but I believe it all kind of came to a pinnacle, a peak, with the Harry Potter books that have come out, and the Harry Potter rage that swept across England."

Her sister Tess agreed, commenting, "The spells and things that you're reading in the Harry Potter books? Those aren't just something that are made up-- those are actual spells. Those are things that came from witchcraft books."

"Harry is using this magic for good. So here we have the dangerous idea that you can use this magic for good or bad. Whereas in reality, all magic is bad, because you're getting your power from Satan," said Brynne.

The girls have vowed never to read the Harry Potter novels, and hope to help U.K. teenagers defend themselves from "inviting Satan to possess them by reciting the spells in the Harry Potter books."

New York City’s hip-hop tastemakers were all out tonight. The usual album listening party filled with groupies and stranglers didn’t happen for Pusha T. Nah. When it was time for the world to hear "My Name Is My Name," the guest list was only for the chosen. Masterminded by DONDA, Def Jam and G.O.O.D. music hosted P’s official listening for his highly anticipated solo album at the Industria Superstudio in NYC. Similar to the YEEZUS event, guests were shuttled into a bare art space with little warning of what was about to happen. We were told Kanye was going to be the host of the evening, but when the first song dropped, Yeezy was still nowhere in sight. But before we could even blink, Ye popped up right behind Pusha T like the holy ghost. And, within minutes Kanye West let off one of the wildest rants of his career. Trust, you’ve never seen Mr. West go this hard for his one of his artists. My Name Is My Name drops on Oct. 8.
