– In an interview on CNBC, Bill Murray had stuff to say about how the tax reform bill is good, thinks Democrats need to find the "common" factors that unite all people instead of trying to "pick out" support from marginalized groups, and talks about how people still like Groundhog Day.
– Conservatives were happy and waved his support around like a musty flag bc most celebrities in liberal Hollywood won't bat for them which makes their harmful views outsider opinions or something even though an orange terd is sitting in the oval office sending his thoughts and prayers to Florida.
– Murray also said being a comedian is "harder and harder", citing people accusing Jim Downey, long-time writer for SNL (like decades) who's involved in a lot of the political sketches, of being a right-wing comedic writer.
– Murray also appeared on SNL in January for a Morning Joe sketch and played Steve Bannon, where his character said Jared Fogle from Subway and Logan Paul would make great 2020 candidates. He also appeared in a 2016 White House video promoting the ACA.
– On #MeToo: "If people are monstrous, it eventually comes back." [...] "We get justice, but we don't get it when we want it. ...This is unusual. People are getting their justice rather quickly." 🚮
– On comedy being hard:“How can Kristen Wiig make everyone laugh? She’s not thinking about being political. She’s thinking about what resonates and what’s common to all of us…My friend who’s a great comedy writer, Jim Downey, he’s accused of being a right-wing comedy writer, if there is such a thing.”
“He says, no no, I just think the way the Democrats handle things is poor, the way they try to pick out little pieces…where [they say] ‘we represent the Hispanics, we represent LGBTQ’ or something. And they’re not speaking to everyone at once. It’s almost demeaning to say ‘I’m choosing you because you’re a splinter group or you’re a certain minority group.'”
“There’s almost a resentment…you’re separated again by a politician. You’re my people, I’m in control of you, and I represent you. Instead of thinking each citizen has the right to be respected as a citizen first under the laws of the country.”
– On tax reform:“The change in the tax law is a great thing for corporations, it’s a fantastic thing. I don’t pretend to understand what that will mean to the future in terms of the economy or what the budget will have to do with what people call entitlements.”
“In the first step, it’s made things easier. I think people feel like there was too much regulation, and yet I hope they don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater when breaking down regulations.”

Ex-SNL cast member Horatio Sanz said this about Jim Downey in 2014:"I don't think the show itself has ever let its freak flag fly in the last 20 years. Lorne's very concerned with being neutral so he wants to make fun of everyone. … He doesn't want the show to be this liberal bash rag. He may be a little more conservative than he lets on.
… And you also have Jim Downey, who's basically the Karl Rove of SNL. He's always writing the right wing sketches, and honestly I think a lot of times they're out of tune with the audience. … I think Lorne sometimes leans too much on Downey and not enough on guys like Seth. Basically in the last couple of years, it's been Seth going up against Downey to set the show's tone on politics, and I think we could definitely have been harder on the right. They deserved it, and we dropped the ball as far as getting them."
