"In Brooklyn, New York, Kyra (Pfeiffer) loses her job and struggles to survive on her ailing mother's income. As the weeks and months go on, her problems worsen. This leads her on a risky and enigmatic path that threatens her life."
– Nigerian-born director Andrew Dosunmu'sWhere Is Kyra? has finally found a distributor after screening at the Sundance Film Festival this January, via Great Point Media after, ironically, a year of searching, currently looking at releases.
– His past films include Mother of George (2013) and Restless City (2011), also hard-hitting dramas focused on people in New York City living under difficult circumstances. He's also directed music videos for Tracy Chapman, Isaac Hayes, and other artists.
– Michelle Pfeiifer has been receiving outstanding reviews as the title character, some calling it her best performance in years. "A soul-searching Michelle Pfeiffer makes a welcome return," says Variety's review.
– Dosunmu said on the inspiration for the film, “I wanted to tell a story about these people that are disenfranchised that we see every day. We don’t ask ourselves the question, ‘Why are they here?'”. The film is about what it's like to grow old in a society that doesn't honor its elders and having to live in a city with non-stop motion.
– Pfeiffer also starredinThe Wizard of Lies (which got her a GG and Emmy nomination), Murder On the Orient Express and mother! in 2017, and will appear in Marvel's Ant Man and the Wasp as Janet van Dyne later this year.
