So someone in the costume design sector of the Academy revealed some of their voting preferences for this year's Oscars when they go live (starting next Tuesday for Academy members):
-- Best Picture: Overall if they could have, they would've gone for Mudbound (they preferred it well beyond Lady Bird or Phantom Thread). But for those nominated they're going to list 3 Billboards and Get Out as the their top two in preferential.
-- Best Director: Is baffled 3 Billboards didn't get nominated, and is gunning for 'The Shape of Water' since Mudbound didn't get a nod. Didn't like Dunkirk, Lady Bird, or Phantom Thread at all.
-- Screenplays: Mudbound for adapted, of course; 3 Billboards for original (which they found dark, funny and with unexpected twists apparently).
-- Actor: Said all were great, but they're giving their vote to Gary fucking Oldman.
-- Actress: Was glad Margot Robbie got a nod, and loved Sally Hawkins & Frances McDormand the most, but thinks Sally has a long career ahead of her so her Oscar can wait - hence why Frances should get a second Oscar????
-- Supporting Actor: Thought everyone but Christopher Plummer did great (even said they thought Kevin Spacey would've done better??), but are voting for Willem Dafoe for 'The Florida Project.'
-- Supporting Actress: Hardcore voting for Allison Janney here, but they loved Mary J Blige too.
-- Animated Feature: Will go for 'Loving Vincent', which they thought was beautiful.
-- Cinematography: Still on the Mudbound train, they're going with Morrison.
More tech categories on the source, still can't tell the difference between sound editing and sound mixing, sigh.
