What does Hollywood's reverence for child rapist Roman Polanski tell us? https://t.co/nfV3B11vOI

The Guardian points out the hypocrisy of Hollywood people who say that if it had been known that Harvey Weinstein was a rapist, they never would have worked with him. Everyone knows that Polanski is a convicted and self-confessed child rapist, but he's had no trouble finding A-listers to work with him over the past decades.
The Guardian attempted to contact Polanski’s celebrity supporters, over 25 actors who have worked with Polanski since his arrest and film-makers who signed his petition. Names include Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, Christoph Waltz, Kate Winslet, Kim Cattrall, Pierce Brosnan, Jodie Foster, David Lynch, Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese.
Some ignore the journalist, a few only spoke off the record, the rest say they are too busy. Adrien Brody was “unable to participate due to schedule”. Kingsley would “need to pass”. Tilda Swinton “would like to graciously pass on being interviewed”.
During the off-the-record conversations, one person admitted they regretted their previous support, given the new allegations, but couldn’t bring themselves to say so publicly. Most people insisted their friend wasn't a rapist. Common excuses heard were: “It was a long time ago” and “He’s served his time.” Two people said it was a “special situation” because “the girl had been up for it”.
