NEON IN DAYLIGHT

New York City in 2012, the sweltering summer before Hurricane Sandy hits. Kate, a young woman newly arrived from England, is staying in a Manhattan apartment while she tries to figure out her future. She has two unfortunate responsibilities during her time in America: to make regular Skype calls to her miserable boyfriend back home, and to cat-sit an indifferent feline named Joni Mitchell.

The city has other plans for her. In New York's parks and bodegas, its galleries and performance spaces, its bars and clubs crowded with bodies, Kate encounters two strangers who will transform her stay: Bill, a charismatic but embittered writer made famous by the movie version of his only novel; and Inez, his daughter, a recent high school graduate who supplements her Bushwick cafe salary by enacting the fantasies of men she meets on Craigslist. Unmoored from her old life, Kate falls into an infatuation with both of them.

THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW

Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.

ISTANBUL: A Tale of Three Cities

From the Koran to Shakespeare, this city with three names--Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul--resonates as an idea and a place, real and imagined. Standing as the gateway between East and West, North and South, it has been the capital city of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires. For much of its history it was the very center of the world, known simply as "The City," but, as Bettany Hughes reveals, Istanbul is not just a city, but a global story.

In this epic new biography, Hughes takes us on a dazzling historical journey from the Neolithic to the present, through the many incarnations of one of the world's greatest cities--exploring the ways that Istanbul's influence has spun out to shape the wider world. Hughes investigates what it takes to make a city and tells the story not just of emperors, viziers, caliphs, and sultans, but of the poor and the voiceless, of the women and men whose aspirations and dreams have continuously reinvented Istanbul

THE FLOATING WORLD

A dazzling debut about family, home, and grief, The Floating World takes readers into the heart of Hurricane Katrina with the story of the Boisdorés, whose roots stretch back nearly to the foundation of New Orleans. Though the storm is fast approaching the Louisiana coast, Cora, the family’s fragile elder daughter, refuses to leave the city, forcing her parents, Joe Boisdoré, an artist descended from a freed slave who became one of the city’s preeminent furniture makers, and his white “Uptown” wife, Dr. Tess Eshleman, to evacuate without her, setting off a chain of events that leaves their marriage in shambles and Cora catatonic--the victim or perpetrator of some violence mysterious even to herself.

This mystery is at the center of C. Morgan Babst’s haunting, lyrical novel. Cora’s sister, Del, returns to New Orleans from the life she has tried to build in New York City to find her hometown in ruins and her family deeply alienated from one another. As Del attempts to figure out what happened to her sister, she must also reckon with the racial history of the city, and the trauma of destruction that was not, in fact, some random act of God, but an avoidable tragedy visited upon New Orleans’s most helpless and forgotten citizens.

THREE FLOORS UP

Set in an upper-middle-class Tel Aviv apartment building, this best-selling and warmly acclaimed Israeli novel examines the interconnected lives of its residents, whose turmoils, secrets, unreliable confessions, and problematic decisions reveal a society in the midst of an identity crisis.

On the first floor, Arnon, a tormented retired officer who fought in the First Intifada, confesses to an army friend with a troubled military past how his obsession about his young daughter's safety led him to lose control and put his marriage in peril. Above Arnon lives Hani, known as "the widow," whose husband travels the world for his lucrative job while she stays at home with their two children, increasingly isolated and unstable. When her brother-in-law suddenly appears at their door begging her to hide him from loan sharks and the police, she agrees in spite of the risk to her family, if only to bring some emotional excitement into her life. On the top floor lives a former judge, Devora. Eager to start a new life in her retirement, Devora joins a social movement, desperately tries to reconnect with her estranged son, and falls in love with a man who isn't what he seems

In the interview

- Wants to create art she would have loved to see as a young girl
- Her mother introduced her to Radcliffe Bailey, and at a young age would talk to her, her sister and Kelly Rowland about black art.”

- She traveled as a backup dancer and singer for Destiny’s Child and released her first album at 16, then at 17 married her high school sweetheart, she says because "Being so nomadic, and the rapid pace in which my life moved from [age] 13 until 17 … I craved repetition in a way that was so radical,"

- Claudia Rankine’s book 'Citizen: An American Lyric' made her realize “we’re not crazy and that we’re not trippin’ and it’s not our imagination. That these things are very real. They are very painful and they are everywhere.”

- She was inspired by the book to explore the pain and rage of being a black woman in America, “For me it was about [asking], How can I exist with all of this rage and all of this pain and all of this anger? How can I possibly exist every day out here in the world with that? How do I turn that into glory? How do I turn that into power? How do I transcend with all of that facing me so closely?”

- On her most recent album the line ‘Don’t bite the hand,’ references her Twitter takedown of New York Times critic Jon Caramanica in 2013 and was repeated so you "feel the brutality of what it means to have a white person tell you, ‘Do not bite the hand that feeds you,’”

Kid Rock's tour name is no longer 'The Greatest Show On Earth'

He changed it surprisingly not because of accusations of false advertising, but following a lawsuit by the owners of the Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus who have trademarked that tagline. It is now called 'The American Rock N Roll Tour'.
Rock said “While I firmly believe that I am entitled under the First Amendment to name my Tour after my song, I have changed the Tour name because I do not want this lawsuit to distract me or my fans from focusing on what is important in my upcoming Tour — my music.”

-Ann is happy that Shane J. is back

-Shane J/Andrew discuss their relationship or lack thereof. They.Are.Just.Friends!

-The men are in charge of putting together the shopping list.

-Andrew/whatshisname discuss Shane/Courtney and how they think Shane is happy to be one of the lads and how straight men generally are when it comes to gays/drag queens.

-The oldies (sans Ann) discuss Ashley. They think she is a natural performer compared to Jess who is completely natural and genuine.

-Shane J. predicts that the men being in charge of the shopping list end up in disaster and lead to factions in the house. He is glad that he can count on Andrew. He doesn't feel anything sexual for Andrew and Andrew doesnt feel anything sexual for him.

-Shane J. thinks the men were better with serving the women compared to the women serving the men.

-The Men/Women are pitted against each other again in the power of persuasion. Andrew/Jess think they are set as the leaders when in fact their team mates are working against them to persuade them without knowing. The women win.

-Ashley wants to tone her/Ginuwines showmance.

-Wayne usually has more fun with women then with men but is very impressed with how fun the lads are in the house.

-Andrew/Shane J. have a pillow fight to the dismay of Big Brother.
