Piers Morgan says Nancy Kerrigan was the real victim, Tonya Harding almost ends interview

$

- Tonya is back in the spotlight thanks to I, Tonya, the movie about her life starred and produced by Margot Robbie

- She almost cut short her appearance on Good Morning Britain when host Piers Morgan kept trying to pin down whether she was involved in the 1994 attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan

- Harding tried to focus on the new biopic and how the movie will help abuse victims realize it's okay to ask for help, but Piers wasn't having it. He said that maybe it suited her playing the victim but the real victim was Nancy Kerrigan, who had her Olympic dream shattered

- When Tonya suggested she was about to leave, Morgan asked if she was going to end the interview because he thought Nancy was the victim, not her

- Morgan asked if she was in on the plan to attack Nancy, Tonya said no and he ended the interview

new NBC series Rise, based on a true story, has straightwashed its lead character

$

Jason Katims wrote his new NBC series Rise after being inspired by Michael Sokolove's book "Drama High: The Incredible True Story of a Brilliant Teacher, a Struggling Town, and the Magic of Theater." Per the book, Lou Volpe is a closeted teacher who staged a production of "Spring Awakening" at a high school in a blue-collar town. In the show, Lou Mazzuchelli (Josh Radnor) isn't closeted and will not be coming out.

On the TCA press tour, Katims says he changed the main character's sexuality to be able to connect with the story (okay, dude) but also that he doesn't want to "shy away from issues of sexuality." He says that "Rise" will still have LGBT stories and that the show has a trans character and another character who struggles with his sexuality. Guess Katims figured that filled the quota or something.

"Rise" also stars Rosie Perez and Moana's Auli'i Cravalho. The show is set to air in March.

Exec Producer Lauren Shuler Donner says accused rapist TJ Miller will remain in Deadpool 2

In an interview with Fred Topel of RottenTomatoes.com, longtime producer of the X-Men franchise Lauren Shuler Donner was asked if TJ Miller, who had been accused of violently raping a woman when they were in college (see this ONTD post), would be replaced or excised from Deadpool 2, where he plays the appropriately named Weasel. This is her answer: “We’re in the final editing. I don’t think so.” When asked if Miller might be in future installments of the franchise, she said that's up to the studio.

There are quite a few other sexual predators associated with the X-franchise as well. And bless Mr. Topel for bringing them up!

On Bryan Singer, who directed most of the X-Men films, Donner said, “Listen, I love Bryan, but Bryan has a lot of demons. Bryan has some problems, and Bryan needs to take care of his personal problems. That’s all I can say.”

On Bret Ratner, whom Ellen Page accused of subjecting her to homophobic and sexual abuse on the set of X-Men: The Last Stand (see this ONTD post), Donner takes a different tack, “I back [Ellen] up 100 percent. Absolutely. He’s horrible. I’m aware he’s very demeaning to women, extremely demeaning to women, myself included. Yes, I was aware. Anybody that’s female, he’s demeaning."

Maggie Nichols was the first gymnast to report Larry Nassar's abuse to USA Gymnastics

$

  • Maggie Nichols was a member of the 2015 World Championships team where she was the only US gymnast to compete the all around in team final where the US won gold. She was also the bronze medalist on floor at Worlds and a frontrunner for the 2016 Olympic team until she got injured.

  • Maggie is now a sophmore at Oklahoma. As a freshman she was the #1 ranked NCAA gymnast in the regular season all around, scored 7 perfect 10s (including at least one on each of the four events), and won the Super Six with her team.

  • Maggie is one of the 140+ gymnasts abused by Larry Nassar and the 4th recent national team member to publicly come out as one of Nassar's victims after McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas.

  • Maggie started being abused by Nassar in 2013 when she was only 15. He also sent her creepy facebook messages telling her how beautiful she looked.

  • It was revealed that Maggie was the first gymnast to report Nassar's abuse to USAG. Her coach, Sarah Jantzi, overheard Maggie talking to Aly Raisman about Nassar's "treatments" at the Karoyli ranch. Jantzi reported the abuse to USA gymnastics official, Rhonda Faehn, and Maggie's mom, Gina, on June 17, 2015.

  • The president of USAG, Steve Penny, kept calling Gina to tell her to keep quiet and said that USAG was taking care of it and reporting it to the FBI. USAG and the USOC wanted the abuse to be kept quiet so it wouldn't jeopardize the lead up to the 2016 Rio Olympics or Los Angeles' Olympic bid.

  • Maggie's parents were under the impression that the FBI was investigating it and the one interviewing Maggie, but it actually turned out to be a private investigator hired by USAG, Fran Sepler.

  • At the 2016 US National Championships, Steve Penny told Gina that he wanted to let her know that her daughter Maggie was abused, but "she wasn't the worst one."

  • The FBI didn't get back to the Nichols family until July 2016, a year later and days before the Olympic Trials.

  • At least 19 more gymnasts were abused after Maggie reported her abuse to USAG since they didn't inform Michigan State University of the investigation and he continued working there after he was allowed to quietly retired from USAG. MSU actually had complaints about Nassar's abuse from 20 years ago and did their own investigation in 2014, but cleared him.

  • Nassar plead guilty possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Maggie is so brave to come forward with this and her coach Sarah Jantzi was the only adult who did the right thing in this situation. Burn down and decertify USAG!

Dove Cameron comes for IG commenter that complained about Golden Globes Times Up coverage

- Commenter: All the feminism and racism talk ruined the Golden Globes. I was watching it for the awards ffs
- Dove: how horrible, to say something like that to any one at all. so insensitive, so selfish, and so inappropriate. i usually don't reply to people who are clearly MASSIVELY under an average level IQ, but I was so personally offended by what you said, that I couldn't let it slip by. you need to take a lesson in compassion and perspective. "of course you wouldn't mind since you're black." please take a look at yourself. you have something ugly and dark inside of you. spread love and support, not hate and ignorance. i wish you peace, clarity, and a firm slap in the face from life. night."

i canrecognize that what you said does not automatically make you a racist or a misogynist. i never named you either of those things, and i wouldn't say that necessarily are those things, as i don't know you personally. i do think that what you said implies that you think award shows and your level of enjoyment is MORE important than acknowledging the struggle of both women, and people of color. THAT is what I believed to be wrong, and terrible ignorant. i do not think you are a bad person, and i didn't intend to cause such a storm for you on social media. but i stand by the things i did say. hope you, and people like you, can grow into people who PRIORITIZE the needs of important issues (even if they don't directly impact you and your life) more than you prioritize your enjoyment of a night of television. have a good day.

Greta Gerwig finally denounces Woody Allen

$

After dodging the subject time and time again, most recently backstage at Sunday's Golden Globes, Greta Gerwig has finally addressed her appearance in Woody Allen's 'To Rome with Love.' Speaking to columnist Frank Bruni, Gerwig said:

"I worked for [Allen] on a film that came out in 2012. It is something that I take very seriously and have been thinking deeply about, and it has taken me time to gather my thoughts and say what I mean to say. I can only speak for myself and what I’ve come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film. I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again. Dylan Farrow’s two different pieces made me realize that I increased another woman’s pain, and I was heartbroken by that realization. I grew up on his movies, and they have informed me as an artist, and I cannot change that fact now, but I can make different decisions moving forward."

Is Britney Spears releasing a new album in 2018?

Hold onto your knickers, girls: the release of B10 (BX?) may be closer than we think. A journalist at B*zzF**d attended this Sunday's Golden Globes, where he received "on the record" word from singer-songwriter Justin Tranter that new Britney Spears material is in the offing. Tranter, along with frequent collaborator Julia Michaels, contributed several tracks to 2016's critically lauded 'Glory,' including single "Slumber Party" and fan favorites "Better" and "Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortés)."

Discussing the songwriting process for 'Glory,' during which Spears co-wrote with Tranter/Michaels tracks "Invitation," "Just Like Me," and "Better," Tranter said, "Nobody ever talks about Britney as a writer and she's f**king great, like insane. Her concepts were bold and smart and very left of centre, in a good way. Melodically, she has melodies for days. How come no one mentions that this girl can write the f**k out of a song?"

Catherine Deneuve speaks against #MeToo, defends men's "freedom to importune" women

Catherine Deneuve is among 100 other female French artists, journalists, doctors and randoms who signed a petition published on Le Monde speaking out AGAINST #MeToo (and the French equivalent #BalanceTonPorc).

The petition says rape is a crime, but defends men's freedom to importune women, to hit on women "insistently" or "awkwardly".

The signatories are very sad about men being punished or fired for only "touching a knee, trying to steal a kiss, speaking of intimate things during a professional dinner or sending sexual messages to a woman who doesn't reciprocate".

They say this "fever to send the pigs to slaughter" (aka calling out abusive men) is serving the interests of religious extremists.

Say they don't see themselves represented in a feminism that, under guise of denouncing abuse of power, assumes the form of hating men and sexuality.
