Hip-Hop’s Year of Dangerous Living Put the Accused on the Charts

0
0

-while in 2017 in hollywood, powerful men were brought down by their misdeeds, the opposite happened in hip-hop with men being rewarded with success in spite of (or owing to) their misdeeds

-xxxtentacion assaulted a pregnant woman, tay-k is facing multiple murder charges, kodak black faces criminal sexual conduct, 6ix9ine pleaded guilt to the use of a child in a sexual performance

-all four had success this past year with two of their albums debuting at #2 and #3 on the billboard chart

-in hollywood the past year when allegations came out about a man, he was excommunicated and his work was scrubbed, but in hip-hop they are treated as anti-authoritarian folk heroes

-it's impossible to separate the art from the artist because their music is so autobiographical. xxxtentacion has a song about the woman he assaulted. tay-k released a song about being on the run while he was on the run. lil peep, who died from an overdose on prescription drugs, used to rap about abusing prescription drugs.

-because of the amount of information available now, people should be more informed about the art they're consuming. it's important to be critical and to tether the accusations to the art.

-record companies enable these artists financially. kodak black is signed to atlantic, so is youngboy never broke again who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm this year. xxxtentacion signed a record deal with empire. tay-k just signed with a label run by an RCA exec while he sits in jail on two murder charges.

-other artists have attempted to capitalize on the notoriety by working with them, like noah cyrus working with xxxtentacion. this makes it less likely for them to disappear quietly.

-while in hollywood, the abusers show remorse and conversations are just beginning as to whether some of them can be welcomed back one day, hip-hop isn't waiting

Taylor Swift Is No Longer Relatable, And Her Ticket Sales Prove It

0

Taylor Swift's Reputation tour, fan's aren't ...Ready For It. Ticket sales are under-performing and her latest album Reputation took a 79% dip with second week sales. Swift hiked up prices for her tour and that was the end game for fans, who are simply not here for the alt right icon's greediness. Forbes added that people aren't exactly jumping at the chance to see Swift due to her lackluster showcase at the recent Jingle Ball Tour reviewing her set saying "Swift and her backup dancers work through the lazily choreographed number with robotic stiffness, washed out by harsh red lighting and thick smoke. Her voice is drowned out by a backing track, but it barely matters because the song’s monotone melody offers no room for vocal acrobatics anyway. It’s a claustrophobic, half-baked performance".

After Armie Hammer, Anne Helen (Buzzfeed) asks: Why Is Justin Timberlake Pivoting Into The Woods?

0
0
Article on the title of Justin Timberlake’s new album, Man of the Woods, being the equivalent of a trip to a dude ranch: a projection of vulnerabilities and the desire to immerse himself in a world that doesn’t ask hard questions.

- talks the immediate response to Timberlake’s video, introducing himself as Man of the Woods and his rebranding and pandering of white america, after his music being tied to black producers.

- Says Timberlake's desire to return to where he is from speaks to a fetishization of the West and the promise of spaces where men can be men. And a pivotal point in his career and the place for white men in society consciousness, after he has been criticized for a wedding video and twitter gaffe.

- Timberlake has managed to avoid significant scandals and usually walks away unscathed from situations.

- Asks where Timberlake fits in current pop culture, after playing moody with Cry Me a River; player with My Love and happy-dance with Can't Stop the Feeling. The response for his Super Bowl performance was less of anticipation and more about #JusticeforJanet.

- Mentions that, when news came out of the family buying a house in Montana, insiders told magazines it was because of their son. Timberlake continued performing at festivals and award shows - even filming with Woody Allen. Now, the teaser for Man of the Woods shows the singer transformation from the suits to man of the woods.

- Argues the video seems performative and laughable because it doesn't seem like a natural progression, but a desire to control his image and show himself in a elemental, mythical, masculine world that doesn’t ask hard questions or demand nuanced answers.

- Compares it to the narrative change around John Mayer, who also moved to Montana, and how the was able to control his image.

- Says both moved to a sanitized, whitewashed and privileged myth of the West.

- Talks about so called lumbersexuals, Donald Trump Jr and the promise that manhood would be restored and any anxieties about your voice not mattering. These men are trying to control their image and fleeing criticism — in particular of the way they’ve handled questions on race and their own privilege.

- Admits it isn't clear how the image from the teaser will reflect on the album (the first music video represents what he would be fleeing). But it could represent and unwillingness to deal with questions on his music and image.

Tonya Harding now claims she "knew something was up" when Nancy Kerrigan was attacked

  • Tonya Harding, ex-skater and star of Tru TV's "World's Dumbest", is currently riding that publicity tour for I, Tonya.

  • She sat down with Amy Robach to discuss the infamous 1994 attack and controversy that ensued. She stated "I knew something was up." and that she felt like she was being used as a pawn. She says she never asked ex-husband Jeff Gillooly to go through with the plot to attack Nancy. Gillooly however, claims the opposite as does most of America.

  • She also has not spoken to her mother Lavona since 2002. They are estranged, and Lavona recently admitted she hates that Allison Janney is portraying her, she has no plans on seeing the film, and she just wants to see her grandchild.

ONTD Original: When Female Celebrities Go Through Hair Loss

0
0
Hair loss in women is an extremely common thing. So common that I may as well tell you all that water is wet, the sky is blue, and men were a mistake.

But hardly anyone ever talks about it. Women keeping up with impossible beauty standards means denying being a human being. Heels do not allow for a natural foot position (on the contrary, it's damaging), being prepubescent thin as an adult requires as little eating as possible, "I don't fart, what are you talking about" - Kim Kardashian, etc. So WHY ON EARTH would a woman admit out loud to losing her hair?

Despite the stress in her life, the stress she puts on her scalp to at least look presentable, the disease of an eating disorder that keeps her malnourished, and the hormones that go nuts on her hair while she's pregnant and/or after having a baby.

But it's real. And it happens. And it's okay! It can happen to anybody. And as a matter of fact? It does. Here's a tongue-in-cheek post to prove it!

First up is Selena Gomez. Here she is in 2007, 2008, 2009:

In recent years, Selena's spark has been slowly disappearing and taking her hairline with it. She might not look it, but what was once an abundance of adorable baby hairs is now a thinning shadow of what it once was. Her hair is still thick and glorious, ofc, but her hair loss is actually quite noticeable once it's pointed out.

2012 was the beginning of the end to whatever Selena had left of for a soul. Not that anyone could possibly keep track, but that was a big year for Jelena breakups and shades. We had Barbara Palvin responding to Beiber hook-up rumors via Twitter, Selena Gomez "releasing some stress" at a gun range before deleting her Instagram, and a possibly yet-to-be-diagnosed Lupus disease on top of it all.

And in 2013, we got that Letterman moment where she made fun of making Justin Bieber cry (good, fuck him). But there's no doubt he made her cry too, despite always letting everyone know about her fresh starts and new beginnings and revivals and being so damn good, etc. etc. Did I mention she once showed up sloshed to a "fancy" WB party?

(2012, 2013)

Who wouldn't experience hair loss at that point? Especially since the mess hasn't stopped since.

"I'm a little bit like my character [from Wizards of Waverly Place]; she gets in trouble a lot and I guess I'm kind of a good girl, so I don't get in trouble as much as she does. But I'm kinda like her, style-wise." -Selena Gomez in 2007

(both 2017)

Ariana Grande

If you didn't expect this one to show up, bless your sheltered soul for how dead wrong you were, sis. This is a classic (and very common) case of traction alopecia. A good mixture of hair tied tightly and up high and secured solid with hairspray will do that to you. All this only just after going through bottles and bottles of red hair dye for her Nickelodeon job just made this inevitable.

"[I had to dye it] like, every other week. Originally, I did have to bleach it because they used to put highlights in it which totally, like, ruined my hair for a little while. But then we came up with a really healthy solution for it and now it's happy and growing hair!" - Ariana Grande in 2011

(2015, 2016, 2017)

Ashley Olsen

(2003, 2004, 2010)

How do I begin to explain Ashley Olsen? Ashley Olsen is FLAWLESS I don't. Not really. Because the truth is? Nobody really knows what goes down with the Olsen twins. All we have are leaked pictures of proof that they have been clubbing since they were at least 16 and Ashley hid her eating disorder well. Ashley is the Type A twin, the strategic twin, the twin that doesn't get caught doing everything Mary Kate got caught doing (though, with less famous people and less often). And that's pretty damn impressive, but it doesn't mean it didn't physically take its toll on her.

"Yeah, [Mary-Kate's eating disorder is because she became famous too young] but I've lived the same life and, you know, I'm here." -Ashley Olsen in 2004

(2015, 2017)

Her hair is coming back nicely though. Four for you, Ash Coco!

Fergie

(2002, 2003, 2005)

Former girl group member of Wild Orchid, Fergie's had a bit of a wild ride. Being put in a position where she couldn't be herself and trying to please everyone else was difficult for her to handle. She used crystal meth to cope and dropped down to 90lbs, at 5'4. Substance abuse, stress, pressure, malnutrition and a knack for tight updos was a lot for her body to handle.

(both 2017)

She looks better than ever though, truly, and Tension is a bop.

Lindsay Lohan

(2004, 2005)

"There's just too much drama. Just, like, laugh it off. [laughs]" -Lindsay Lohan in 2004

(2016, 2017)

Mila Kunis

(2002, 2004, 2008)

Sometimes, women experience hair loss (tons of it) during pregnancy. Mila Kunis is one of those women! She had her daughter in 2014 and was pregnant with her son in the 2016 photo below. MILF.

"Well, given that I have the title for sexiest woman alive for only eleven more months, I am going to eat it up until the next young lady takes the title away from me. I do sometimes like to remind people, around 5:30am when I'm at work that I'm the sexiest woman alive." -Mila Kunis in 2014

(2016, 2017)

Miley Cyrus

(both 2010)

A bit of a control freak, to say the least. Having been controlled and shamed by Disney and the parents of America cluttered her a bit. Almost as much as her "three hundred and fifty" hair extensions did. So acting out was the only way to not only break free, but for everyone to willingly let her go. Self-harm, drugs, nudity to take back what was stolen from her as a child (leaked personal photos), chopping all of that hair off and not having to deal with extensions anymore, and just being a problematic fav.

"None of it was ever real." -Miley Cyrus in 2011 talking about her hair, but take it as you will.

(both 2017)

Hilary Duff

(both 2003)

Like Ashley Olsen above, Hilary Duff is a bit of a mystery. She has always been painted as one of the few child stars who grew up well-adjusted, one of the few Disney didn't get to, the only "good girl" (sorry, Selener) left. Hilary started to get alarmingly thin in 2005 while dating Joel Madden, which lead to a number of rumours of a cocaine addiction. Whether or not that's true doesn't cancel out the fact that she was goinng through an eating disorder: her energy was non-existent in interviews, her voice was hoarse from bulimia, her skin was dry and dull, and her hair was thinning fast.

(2005, 2006)

When her relationship with Joel ended, he started one up with Nicole Richie, who lost A LOT of weight, which lead to even more rumors: that he is the person behind these eating disorders. That's only speculation though. Hilary herself said there was a headline that did it titled, Hilary Duff Puffs Up with a photo of the magazine having obviously photoshopped her face and she's wearing a loose blouse. Fuckers.

Fortunately, Hilary recovered, finally embracing her natural shape as her hair comes back nicely.

"I think there's no such thing as anyone that's perfect, you know?" -Hilary Duff in 2005

WINNING OVER HIRAM LODGE — Amidst preparations for the town’s annual Picken’s Day festivities, Jughead interviews Toni’s grandfather and learns some shocking details about Riverdale’s history (it's probably going to be messy af and ill thought out like everything else on the show).

In an attempt to get closer to Hiram (either because he's still spying for the Feds or to make up after getting caught being a snitch), Archie tries out for the Riverdale wrestling team after learning of Hiram’s love of the sport. And promptly gets flipped on his ass and put in a choke hold by Hiram himself.

Meanwhile, Betty unearths some dark secrets about her brother Chic. (They probably just find out that he was a gigolo, but she also wants to know if he's "dark" like her)

Veronica and Josie clash as they prepare for their Picken’s Day performance, and hopefully the Pussycats will get to perform on their own, but they probably won't get to.

Directed by Greg Araki and written by Greg Murray and Devon Turner. According to their respective IMDB pages, these are their first ever writing credits ever.

Catching up with Gypsy Rose Blanchard two years after her mother's death

  • ABC's 20/20 did a feature on the infamous case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a girl who was essentially used as a human guinea pig by her vile mother, Dee Dee, who suffered from Munchhausen by proxy. An HBO documentary on the case aired last year.

  • Her mother forced her to get multiple surgeries and other things such as forcing her to use a wheelchair. She also met celebrities such as Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Blake Shelton, and Miranda Lambert.

  • Dee Dee's scheme fooled almost everyone. She accepted gifts, cash, fundraiser money, and other things.

  • Gypsy and her boyfriend conspired to have Dee Dee murdered. She was found stabbed to death in her home in 2015. Gypsy confessed and was sentenced to serve prison time. She has admitted that she feels the freest that she has ever felt in a long time.

Poor girl. Honestly...this sounds mean but who wouldn't have killed the mother? She was a vile woman.

Bway Legend Ben Vereen Admits Sexual Assault and Harassment during 2015 production of "Hair"

0
0

When Ben Vereen held auditions for “Hair” at a community theatre in Florida in 2015, the Tony winner said he wanted to break new ground with the rock musical.

But in a sickening twist, several young actresses cast in the show claim the Broadway legend’s sexually abusive behavior nearly broke them.

A recap:
* Lured woman cast members to his house in Florida (production was in Tampa) under the guise of "private rehearsals" and assaulted them.
* Vereen used the same line to get girls naked in his hot tub, talking about how nudity (which is used in some productions of "Hair") is not inherently sexual and they should get over their preconceived notions.
* “I would like to apologize directly to the female cast members of the musical ‘Hair’ for my inappropriate conduct when I directed the production in 2015."He doesn't even deny it.
* Made women sit in the middle of a circle at rehearsals and discuss their emotional triggers.
* Gaslighting women while making sexual advances on them.
* Cast members say Vereen, who played Claude in the original musical from 1968 to 1972, used the artistic boundaries of the show to take advantage of the star-struck, volunteer cast at Venice Theatre.
* Cast members were made to sign NDAs.
* Kept promising career progression to his cast, many of which were desperate for an Equity card.
* Article gives very detailed instances of abuse and rape by Vereen

Let's not forget he backed up Bill Cosby, too, when his abuse of women came out.

I'm grossed out and kind of devastated - I loved watching him in a recording of "Pippin" from forever ago.

Also, I'm waiting for the onslaught of more Broadway names being exposed for abuse, it's just a matter of time.

Guy Fieri's restaurant is shutting down!

1515174333261770923.jpg

I’m sorry that I have to be the one to break this terrible news to you all.

It has come to my attention that an important American landmark is being closed off to the public. Yes, that’s right: Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar restaurant, located in Times Square, is shutting down.

I will not say: do not weep. For not all tears are an evil.

Let us hearken to the words of Guy Fieri:

“I’m proud that for over five and a half years, Guy’s American in New York City served millions of happy guests from all over the world…

And upon the restaurant’s closing, I’d like to say thank you to all of the team members and guests who made it all happen.”

Please give him privacy in this trying time.

How will we progress into this New Year with the knowledge that one of Guy Fieri’s 63, now 62 restaurants, has shut down and will not be walking hand-in-hand into the future with us? I can’t answer you at this time. I may weep, but I am not without hope.

I would like to encourage you all to remember the good times (and the bad) in the comments below.
