Jodie Foster Slams Super Hero Genre: "You Get the Best Return Right Now but You Wreck the Earth"

Foster had this to say about superhero flicks:

"Going to the movies has become like a theme park," the two-time Oscar winner says of the current state of affairs. "Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking -- you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth. It's ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world. I don't want to make $200 million movies about superheroes."

She makes movies "because there are things I have to say in order to figure out who I am or my place in the world, or for me to evolve as a person."

She then goes on to ponder why she didn't go to law school.

Anne Rice & Son Hope For "Game of Thrones"-style Adaptation For Vampire Chronicles

$

Anne Rice, the mother of the modern vampire, is still trying to get her 14 volume Vampire Chronicles series produced for tv. She and her son author Christopher Rice recently collaborated on the thirty years too late sequel to 1989's "Ramses the Dead", "Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra" released last year.

  • "Ramses the Damned: The Passion of Cleopatra" is about a mother-and-son team inventing an ancient African civilization, called Shaktanu, and an immortal queen, Betatakin, who, thousands of years ago, concocted an elixir giving Ramses and Cleopatra never-ending life"............

  • This novel follows her last entry in her vampire chronicles “Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis" where "Lestat de Lioncourt finds himself at war with an other-worldly force from the ancient civilization of Atlantis"&“The Wolf Gift Chronicles” which explores ghosts and now also werewolves because suddenly the Koons is Charlaine Harris 8 years too late, grandsis should have quit being a novelist for Jesus a little earlier

  • A Vampire Chronicles tv show will supposedly be produced by Paramount and Anonymous Content, who are responsible for “Mr. Robot,” “True Detective” and "The Knick", Christopher Rice will write and executive produce

  • Christopher Rice on production value hopes: "Production wise, it’s a shining example of what can be done logistically on television now. Before 'Game of Thrones' nobody really thought TV was a good place to do an open-ended series about novels."

  • The show will follow whiny, impetutous Lestat from his boyhood in France and follow the sequence of each book introducing other characters

  • Anne basically backtracking yet again and renouncing the film adaptations: "We didn’t belong in movies. That was clear. Universal – we never should have been in that deal. When they didn’t pick up their option, I practically went hysterical with joy. “It’s all come back to me! Great! Good-bye!"

  • Anne's pick for Lestat? This guy, Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ:

  • Christopher talks about how he and his late father collaborated with Anne to help her write Ramses the Damned when he was 9 years old

  • Addresses diversity and racial stereotypes: "I think what we agreed on together was we wanted a really powerful central African queen character at the center of this novel. One of the things I love about the original is how it rockets over a lot of the racially problematic stereotypes of ‘The Mummy,’ which is that a brown-skinned pharaoh is awakened and terrifies white people."

  • Anne on death and it inspiring her books: "I don’t believe in the devil at all. What fascinates me about immortality is, I think we all feel immortal. It’s the curse of human life that we feel we will go on forever, but we know very early on that we won’t. We’ll die. What I encounter over and over again in my stories is that the immortal feels like an outcast and a monster and a freak and longs not to be those things and searches for other immortals to be with."

  • True Blood is dead, The Vampire Diaries is dead, Moonlight is dead, Blood Ties is dead. Does anyone care about a vampire show in 2018? Thoughts?

It’s so much better than ‘Game of Thrones.

We meet a number of terrifying villains over the four seasons of Black Sails, but the main antagonist is a philosophical concept: Civilization. After watching this show, you won’t hear that word the same way again.

Spotify Being Sued Over Tom Petty, Neil Young, Weezer songs

-Wixen Music Publishing (which represents musicians like Neil Young, Tom Petty, Rivers Cuomo, Stevie Nicks, and Kim Gordon among many others) has hit Spotify with a massive copyright lawsuit.
-They are alleging that Spotify is using thousands of songs without a license and without paying out proper royalites.
-They are seeking $1.6 billion in damages.
-Spotify is currently caught up in multiple other lawsuits.
-The complaint suggests that roughly 21% of the songs on Spotify are unlicensed.

Many artists have long been publicly complaining that they make no money from streaming services like Spotify:

Geoff Barrow of Portishead started a conversation on twitter on December 27,2017 that gained some traction among other musicians:

    Thom Yorke responded:

Back in 2015, James Blunt mocked the paltry compensation he receives from Spotify on twitter:

Joanna Newsom told Larry King that she doesn't think Spotify's business model is good back in 2015, saying she's not opposed to streaming but wishes there's a better way to pay musicians. Her music is still not on Spotify and she called them a "villainous cabal":

Noel Gallagher plainly states he doesn't get paid for streaming, "I don't stream anything, I don't believe in it" and, "If I got paid for it, I'd be biggin' it up right now":

Did the Queen reference 'The Crown' in her Christmas speech?

    $

    0

-The Queen's annual Christmas speech attracted increased attention this year as some felt that her intro was a not-so-subtle reference at the second season of the hit Netflix show, The Crown.
-The Queen began her speech by stating "Sixty years ago today, a young woman spoke about the speed of technological change. She presented the first television broadcast of its kind. She described the moment as a landmark. Six decades on, the presenter has evolved somewhat, as has the technology she described. Back then, who could have imagined that people would one day be watching this on laptops and mobile phones, as some of you are today?"
-The first televised Christmas speech in 1957 was a story arc on the current season of The Crown.
-There are reports that the Queen has indeed been watching the Netflix show, on the advice of her son Edward. However it has also been reported that Philip has not followed in her footsteps. The couple's rocky marriage is a major thematic point of the second season.

Taylor's people want you to know that the reports about her lack of sellouts are misleading as these tickets designed not to sell out quickly and her tour sales are going extraordinarily well.

She sold $180 million worth of tickets in the first week and is set to sell between $390 million and $510 million tickets overall.

Instead of selling out in seconds like the 1989 tour did, Taylor is embracing a "slow-ticketing" model intended to capture the profits previously lost to scalpers and shift them back to Taylor by pricing tickets higher and having available tickets on the primary market all the way up until she starts her show.

WME exec Marc Geiger explained that they are stopping the socialist pricing scheme which previously allowed people who bought their tickets on Ticketmaster for cheaper than a reseller to have a first class experience with an economy ticket.
