Brooke Shields praises Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid, slams other models

0
0

- Brooke said that in her times it was important to work hard and you needed to have a good attitude to be successful,

- models had to suffer a lot to get far and no one really cared about them and that wasn't a good thing either,

- in her opinion young models today are entitled and usually have a bad attitude,

- in her times there also seemed to be 'more individuality' among models,

- she called Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid 'so sweet'.

ONTD Original: 22 Albums that turn 10 years old in 2018

2008... Hard to believe that in less than 24 hours, it will be offically TEN years ago. The year Obama was elected, Twilight was in theatres...

And mainstream music was 🙌

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
January 22, 2008 (physically)

When this duo from Connecticut released their debut, people were wondering... what were these guys smoking? Whatever it was resulted in weird videos and psychadelic tunes but we were here for it.

Adele - 19
January 28, 2008

Before collecting Grammys and your parents' money (in exchange for physical albums), Adele was chasing pavements. Her debut album was well received and appealing to all ages (mostly older though, if we're being honest)

Flo Rida - Mail On Sunday
March 18, 2008

We got another debut album here. Even a decade later, you know as soon as you hear "shorty got them apple bottom jeans!" everyone will be on the dance floor by the time they hear "boots with the fur!";

Panic(!) at the Disco - Pretty. Odd.
March 25, 2008

A few years after their breakthrough pop punk meets dance debut album, P!ATD (well mostly Ryan Ross) decided to go in a different direction. This time releasing a Beatles inspired album (along withBeatles inspired hairstyles, clothes, aesthetics...), which while still very good, was not as popular as their previous album.

Mariah Carey - E=MC²
April 15, 2008

After a few rough years, Mariah had a major comeback with her Emancipation of Mimi album. Releasing this as a follow up, it was well received and spawned hit "Touch My Body" with references to YouTube and a Wendy Williams interview (which surprisingly don't sound dated) and a new romance with Nick Cannon that made people go 🤔.

Foxboro Hot Tubs - Stop, Drop and Roll!!!
April 22, 2008

Not too many people know this but Green Day released an album in 2008, a year before 21st Century Breakdown. Following major hit,  American Idiot, the band laid low for  a few years but went in the studio with a few other guys to make a 60s rock inspired album.

Madonna - Hard Candy
April 19, 2008

Following the disco inspired album,Confessions On a Dance Floor, the queen of pop was back. With features such as Justin Timberlake and Kanye West, and Timbaland and Pharrell on production.

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
June 10, 2008

Lil Wayne ruled the hip hop world back in 2008. If it wasn't this album, it was a feature on somebody else's. "Lollipop" was so popular, it even got a rock cover.

Coldplay - Vida or Death and All His Friends
June 12, 2008

Probably one of the biggest albums of that year (or so the iPod commercials would make you believe), "Viva La Vida" was the big hit but personally, I prefer "Violet Hill".

Katy Perry - One of the Boys
June 17, 2008

Technically, her second album but most people were introduced to her through this one. With scandalous songs (at the time) such as  "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl", she definitely caught our attention.

Miley Cyrus - Breakout
July 22, 2008

Coming out from under the Hannah Montana wing, Miley released an album under her own name and told us 7 things she hates about Nick Jonas. Before the twerking, nudeness and stealing black culture/turned back to country girl we know her as today.

Jonas Brothers - A Little Bit Longer
August 12, 2008

2008 was pretty much their peak year. They were riding the wave of their last album and had Camp Rock coming out so of course this was a guaranteed hit. Plus dating the biggest young females from that year certainly helped. I admittedly hated them while secretly stanned their music."Burning Up" was huge. Hey Joe, you CAN grow a mustache after all!

Lady Gaga - the Fame
August 19, 2008

From one queen of pop to another. This was the biggest debut of the year. From 2008 and into 2009, Gaga owned our asses and ears. The second we heard Just Dance (the 3 minute mark is my fav), we were hooked. Then the hits just kept.on.coming.

Demi Lovato - Don't Forget
September 23, 2008

Back to Disney for a minute... And here we have the debut album of Demi Lovato. Co-written by the Jonas Brothers and more rock sounding than anything she releases these days. I really wish she would go back to this sound but it seems unlikely at this point.

Kings of Leon - Only By the Night
September 19, 2008

Another big album in rock. "Use Somebody" was all over radio to the point it got annoying. "Notion" was pretty good though.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Tug of War
September 30, 2008

Before she became ONTD's queen and told us to call her maybe, Carly won Canadian Idol and released an album filled with easy listening, guitar tunes. If you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend "Sweet Talker".

T.I. - Paper Trail
September 30, 2008

Another big one for hip hop. Featuring Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. He told us we can have whatever we liiiiike.

P!nk - Funhouse
October 24, 2008

P!nk had been in the pop game for a while when she released this album, mostly about her rocky relationship with her husband, Carey Hart. This is the album when she started showing off her cirque de soleil skills that she keeps showing us over and over... and over gain. But so what! If she wants to hang off wires for the remainder of her career, she damn well can.

Taylor Swift - Fearless
November 11, 2008

Before her love life became a running joke and fueds galore, Taylor was singing about love stories and fairytales as well as break ups and first days of high school. This was THE album for teenage girls.

Beyoncé - I Am... Sasha Fierce
November 12, 2008

An ambitious decision to make a double album (before blessing us with visual albums) gave us a song to play at weddings for years to come (well two songs, actually - bouquet toss anyone?).

Britney Spears - Circus
November 28, 2008

Pop princess came through one year after Blackout and a year of hell to remind us she calls the shots. She appeared to be back on her A game and hey "Radar" came back as well.

Fall Out Boy - Folie à Deux
December 10, 2008

Before going on a four year hiatus, Fall Out Boy released an album that combined rock and pop and received mixed reviews from fans, but over the years has becomemore appreciatedfor it's experimentation.

Viewers Confuse Jesse Plemons For Matt Damon On Netflix's Black Mirror

0

Jesse "Meth Damon" Plemons recently starred in the first episode of Black Mirror season four, "USS Callister". And while they do look similar from certain angles sometimes, I'm guessing high fructose corn syrup is causing a major decline in eyesight because viewers completely mistook 29 year old Plemons for 47 year old Damon, offering differing theories:

Who do I think is the superior Damon? The one having a baby with Amber Atkins, that's who.

-Season 11 will be the last for Gillian Anderson.

-It was her understanding that this would be the only season.

-The S11 finale was not set up as a Series Finale and CC believes that there are more stories for the X-Files.

-If FOX should decide to continue with a S12, Dana Scully won't be around to solve mysteries.

Best of ONTD 2017: Voting Post

0

Voting is now live! Results will be posted Tuesday afternoon, January 2.

A note about the nominations: I aimed for 5 for each category. If there was a 2-way tie for the 5th slot, I included 6 options. There were a couple categories that had a 4+ way tie for the 5th slot, and since these options only had a couple +1s each, I left them out. As a result, these categories only have 4 options.

Previous post: Nominations

omg y'all I'm so sorry, I previously posted the poll in my journal but set it to private to make sure it worked and I guess using it from my journal messed it up. Hopefully it's good now!

The Next James Bond Could Be a Woman or a POC, Says Producer

20264596_1739922472689323_6761328101188861432_n

Barbara Broccoli, the producer in charge of casting the James Bond films, is apparently open to casting a woman or person of color for the role after Daniel Craig is out. The Daily Fail asked her whether someone other than a white guy could play Bond, and she diplomatically answered,

"These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit. Anything is possible.

"Right now it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?"

In some sense it's a non-answer, but hey, let's take whatever the fuck we can get and run with it. After all, the current Doctor Who is a woman!

Who is your pick for the next James Bond?

Here are 17 books published in 2017, selected from the books that I've read. These 17 books stood out to me for different reasons: some were excellent, some were just fun, and others made me scratch my head wondering how the hell they got published in the first place.

Little Heaven by Nick Cutter
Published: January 10th 2017

A trio of mismatched mercenaries is hired by a young woman for a deceptively simple task: check in on her nephew, who may have been taken against his will to a remote New Mexico backwoods settlement called Little Heaven. Shortly after they arrive, things begin to turn ominous. Stirrings in the woods and over the treetops—the brooding shape of a monolith known as the Black Rock casts its terrible pall. Paranoia and distrust grips the settlement. The escape routes are gradually cut off as events spiral towards madness. Hell—or the closest thing to it—invades Little Heaven. The remaining occupants are forced to take a stand and fight back, but whatever has cast its dark eye on Little Heaven is now marshaling its powers...and it wants them all.

While I thought this book took almost 100 pages to get exciting, in the end I thought it was worth it. Maybe I'm biased because I used to live in New Mexico, but the creepy southwest + cults = a fun read IMO!

30091914Human Acts by Han Kang
Published: January 17th 2017

In the midst of a violent student uprising in South Korea, a young boy named Dong-ho is shockingly killed.

The story of this tragic episode unfolds in a sequence of interconnected chapters as the victims and the bereaved encounter suppression, denial, and the echoing agony of the massacre. From Dong-ho's best friend who meets his own fateful end; to an editor struggling against censorship; to a prisoner and a factory worker, each suffering from traumatic memories; and to Dong-ho's own grief-stricken mother; and through their collective heartbreak and acts of hope is the tale of a brutalized people in search of a voice.

Seth is the sixteen-year old Prince of Boston, ward of the Wolf King. Now he is left in a city that desperately needs his protection with enemies gathering all around.

Joshua believes he is a normal, college-bound high school senior. His life is shattered when he wakes up in a field, covered with blood, and the prom committee scattered in pieces about him like broken dolls.

These four must now come together to unravel a plot by Wickers, witches who gain power from human sacrifices and have the power to turn any human into their puppet. Four people who lost everything struggle to save Boston by saving each other.

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend, but she also just happens to be married to David. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife, but then why is David so controlling, and why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

I know this book was wildly popular this year, but I could not stand it. I can't say why, though, without spoiling the ending.

But when a local schoolteacher comes in to return her copy of Targets, she has an odd complaint: ‘There’s something on it,’ she says. Two days later, another customer brings back She’s All That and complains that something is wrong: ‘There’s another movie on this tape.’

Curious, Jeremy takes a look. And what he sees on the videos is so strange and disturbing that it propels him out of his comfortable routine and into a search for the tapes’ creator. As the once-peaceful fields and barns of the Iowa landscape begin to seem sinister and threatening, Jeremy must come to terms with a truth that is as devastatingly sad as it is shocking.

One of the weirdest, nonsensical books I ever read. Anyone else read this and went WTF? What a disappointment...

Overwhelmed by the huge success of her latest novel, exhausted and unable to begin writing her next book, Delphine meets L. Eva grew up watching her father, Miles, invent strange and wonderful things in the small workshop behind their house on the river that runs through their old mill town. But the most important invention of all was the one that Miles claimed came from the mind of Thomas Edison himself--a machine that allowed one to speak with loved ones long passed. Smuggled out of Edison's laboratory, the blueprints were passed down to Miles, and he's been using them to protect Eva, her mother, Lily, and her brother, Errol, ever since.

Then, one night when a storm is raging and the river is threatening to flood, the machine whirrs to life on its own. Danger, it says. You're in terrible danger. The next thing Eva knows is waking up on the side of the river and seeing her mother's grim face. Eva's father and brother are dead, their house has been washed away and an evil man is searching for them both. They need to hide.

Eva changes her name to Necco--a candy she always loved--and tries to put everything in her past behind her as she adapts to her new life off the grid. But when her boyfriend is murdered and her mother disappears, she knows that the past is starting to catch up to her.

What really happened the night of the flood? As Necco searches for the truth, her journey unites her with two women who are on desperate quests of their own. And as the trio follows the clues to solving the mystery of Necco's past, they discover that sometimes it's the smallest towns that hold the strangest secrets.

One morning, Takahashi, a writer who has just stayed up all night working, is interrupted by a phone call from his old friend Sonomura: barely able to contain his excitement, Sonomura claims that he has cracked a secret cryptographic code based on Edgar Allan Poe’s The Gold-Bug and now knows exactly when and where a murder will take place—and they must hurry if they want to witness the murder, because it’s later that very night! Sonomura has a history of lunacy and playing the amateur detective, so Takahashi is of course reluctant to believe him. Nevertheless, they stake out the secret location, and through tiny peepholes in the knotted wood, become voyeurs at the scene of a shocking crime…

Devils in Daylight is a new translation; it was first published in 1912. It's only 92 pages, and one of the best books I've read!

Published: May 16th 2017
Kate, Aubrey, and Jenny. They first met as college roommates and soon became inseparable, even though they are as different as three women can be. Twenty years later, one of them is standing at the edge of a bridge . . and someone else is urging her to jump.

How did things come to this?

As the novel cuts back and forth between their college years and their adult years, you see the exact reasons why these women love and hate each other—but can feelings that strong lead to murder? Or will everyone assume, as is often the case, that it’s always the husband?

Insufferable, privileged, obnoxious main characters. God I hated them! But I could NOT put this stupid thriller down...

31445891River of Teeth (River of Teeth #1) by Sarah Gailey
Published:  May 23rd 2017
In the early 20th Century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true.

Other true things about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.

This was a terrible plan.

Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe. It is the story of Winslow Houndstooth and his crew. It is the story of their fortunes. It is the story of his revenge.

Another disappointment.

Thus begins Apollo’s odyssey through a world he only thought he understood to find a wife and child who are nothing like he’d imagined. His quest begins when he meets a mysterious stranger who claims to have information about Emma’s whereabouts. Apollo then begins a journey that takes him to a forgotten island in the East River of New York City, a graveyard full of secrets, a forest in Queens where immigrant legends still live, and finally back to a place he thought he had lost forever. This dizzying tale is ultimately a story about family and the unfathomable secrets of the people we love.

But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out. He finds no closure because no one can explain exactly what happened to Danny.
And the more he searches for answers, the more he finds himself becoming part of the mystery. . .

Definitely the scariest book I read in 2017!

Diane Kruger has been disappointed with past relationships

0
0

  • Diane Kruger recently opened up about her past relationships, saying she "made a lot of compromises."

  • She said, "There are certain things I won't accept anymore. I think when you're in a long-term relationship, you start making excuses, and you're making a lot of compromises - which obviously you need to make to make things work - but I think there are certain things that I've learned I don't want to accept anymore ... The older I get, it's about focusing on the people that I have left: my mom, my brother, my grandfather and my boyfriend. I just want to be present in my life and not try to project so much into the future."

  • Last year, she split from Joshua Jackson after 10 years together. She is currently dating Norman Reedus.

  • She says, "Being too comfortable freaks me out, so I like the idea of doing new things ... I think life's better with somebody holding your hand, but I've also learned that I need to take care of myself first. In the past, I've been incredibly disappointed in people. You think you're moving toward the same goal, and then you're not."

Is Pauley Perrette leaving ‘NCIS’ because of Mark Harmon's dog?

0
0

Rumor has it that Pauley Perrette, who will be leaving NCIS in May decided to do so because of Mark Harmon's dog.
Harmon rescued a pitbull a few years ago and frequently brings him on set.
The pitbull attached a crew member last year which resulted in him getting 16 stitches, but in the end the crew member was blamed for "playing rough" with the dog.
Perrerre felt that after the incident, someone else might get hurt by the dog and shared her concerned with the show bosses, but they sided with Harmon, who is also a producer on the show. So she decided to leave the show.
Perrette said her statement when her leaving the show was announced that she decided to leave the show last year, which fits with the timeline of the dog attack.
Perrette would have left last season if producers didn't agree to her terms. She told her bosses that she wouldn't be on set with the dog around since she felt anxious around it around so they separated her and Harmon. They haven't shared a single scene this entire season so far and haven't been on set at the same time.
