Selena Gomez & Her Mom Had Troubled Relationship For Years

Despite reports that Selena Gomez and her mom's fight recently was due to her reconciling with Bieber, sources claim that her mom and her have had issues which date way back and have little to do with Bieber himself.
661264124_mandy-teefey-selena-gomez-zoom-1e90cde9-c3b8-4300-b476-9370c3cfec68
- Originally years ago when Selena fired her mom as her manager, the two didn't speak for an entire year because of it. Selena's mom also didn't let selena talk to her sister because of this.
"Mandy and Selena’s stepdad [Brian Teefey] really did everything they could for Selena so when she fired her it took a toll on Mandy emotionally and professionally. Mandy lost her clout as a manager after Selena left. It caused a major rift in their relationship but they eventually reconnected.’
- Source also says Bieber doesn't wanna cause problems for Selena and her family, but Selena is leaning on him now that she's off again with her mom.

Annihilation

Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide; the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane

A brilliantly imaginative and poignant fairy tale from the modern master of wonder and terror, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is Neil Gaiman’s first new novel for adults since his #1 New York Times bestseller Anansi Boys.

This bewitching and harrowing tale of mystery and survival, and memory and magic, makes the impossible all too real.

Black Water

John Harper is in hiding in a remote hut on a tropical island. As he lies awake at night, listening to the rain on the roof, he believes his life may be in danger. But he is less afraid of what is going to happen than of what he’s already done.

In a local town, he meets Rita, a woman with her own tragic history. They begin an affair, but can they offer each other redemption? Or do the ghosts of the past always catch up with us in the end?

Moving between Europe during the Cold War, Civil Rights–era California, and Indonesia during the massacres of 1965 and the subsequent military dictatorship, Black Water explores some of the darkest events of recent history through the story of one troubled man.

A Colony in a Nation

America likes to tell itself that it inhabits a postracial world, yet nearly every empirical measure—wealth, unemployment, incarceration, school segregation—reveals that racial inequality has barely improved since 1968, when Richard Nixon became our first “law and order” president. With the clarity and originality that distinguished his prescient bestseller, Twilight of the Elites, Chris Hayes upends our national conversation on policing and democracy in a book of wide-ranging historical, social, and political analysis.

The Buddha in the Attic

A gorgeous novel by the celebrated author of When the Emperor Was Divine that tells the story of a group of young women brought from Japan to San Francisco as “picture brides” nearly a century ago. In eight unforgettable sections, The Buddha in the Attic traces the extraordinary lives of these women, from their arduous journeys by boat, to their arrival in San Francisco and their tremulous first nights as new wives; from their experiences raising children who would later reject their culture and language, to the deracinating arrival of war. Once again, Julie Otsuka has written a spellbinding novel about identity and loyalty, and what it means to be an American in uncertain times.

ONTD Original: All of Weinstein's Men

Behind every abusive asshole is a support system that enables such behavior. Harvey Weinstein has had much support in the industry for decades. From the agents who set up meetings to tabloid journalists who killed stories about Weinstein in exchange for stories. This post highlights those who knew about the allegations and those who supported Harvey.

Bob Weinstein & Co

The Weinstein Company was well aware of Harvey's misconduct and the allegations against him. The New York Times reported that Bob Weinstein was involved in at least three settlements dating back to 1990. Ronan Farrow also reported that Weinstein PERSONALLY paid off two settlements against his brother. Bob Weinstein has also been accused of sexual harassment by Amanda Segel, a TV producer. Many of the Harvey loyalists on the board of directors quit after the allegations surfaced. Dirk Ziff, Paul Tudor Jones, and Tim Sarnoff did not sign off on the press release released by the board of directors at the time of the allegations. Harvey's loyalists caped for Harvey in every way despite Harvey misusing company funds. Ziff, Jones, and Sarnoff have given no reason for why they left the board of directors.

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan dated from 2006-2009. Rodriguez was well aware of what happened with Rose before they were made public. Despite knowing that Weinstein allegedly raped McGowan, he still collaborated with Weinstein on a number of projects. Rodriguez stated that he didnt want to jeopardize any legal settlements she had with Weinstein. He also claims that he casted her in Grindhouse, Weinstein production, as a "fuck you" to Weinstein.

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is one of the few men who admitted to knowing about Harvey's behavior and not doing more than he did. He said there was more to it than just rumors. He knew that Weinstein did a couple of these things. Mira Sorvino, Tarantino's girlfriend at one point, told Tarantino about the allegations when they first occurred. He also heard from another actress who had the same story and was aware of McGowan's settlement with Weinstein. Tarantio still continued to make films with Weinstein which he now regrets. He dismissed what Sorvino initially told him because he thought Weinstein had a "particular" interest in her and thought he would leave her alone since Tarantino was dating her.

Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt was dating Gwyneth Paltrow at the time when she was sexually harassed by Weinstein. Pitt confronted Weinstein about it at a party and threatened to beat him up (lol). Pitt confirmed the incident to the NYT. Angelina Jolie, his ex-wife, has also accused Weinstein of sexual harassment. Brad Pitt still chose to work with the producer on Inglorious Basterds and Killing Them Softly.

Ben Affleck

One of the best things in 2017 was the continued demise of Ben Affleck. Ben's predatory actions were covered in a previous post. Ben may play dumb but it is clear he knew about Weinstein's actions on two separate occasions. When the news first broke, Ben claimed he didn't know about Weinstein at all and Rose McGowan called him out on twitter for it. McGowan accused Weinstein of rape and says that she told Ben Affleck about the incident. Rose claims that Ben said "I told him to stop doing that" when she told him about the assault. Gwyneth Paltrow also accused Harvey of harassment and Affleck was aware of that incident as well.

Matt Damon

Matt Damon admitted that both him and Affleck were aware of Paltrow's allegations against Harvey because Ben was the one who told him about it. Damon called Harvey an asshole but says that he's never witnessed such behavior. Sharon Waxman, founder of The Wrap, claimed that she investigated such allegations against Weinstein back when she was a reporter for NYT in 2004. Waxman stated that the piece was cut from the paper due to TWC presence as an advertiser for the newspaper and the meddling of Russell Crowe and Matt Damon. She alleges that Damon and Crowe called her directly to refute the claims. Damon denied the claims and Waxman later endorsed his comments.

CAA and others
At least 8 agents from CAA were aware that Weinstein had threatened female clients or sexually harassed them. Despite knowing all of this, the agency still worked with Weinstein and arranged meetings for female clients with him. Courtney Love stated that she was banned by CAA after speaking out against Weinstein. The report also states that agents and managers still sent female clients Weinstein's way despite his behavior and told them to stay silent if anything went wrong. Mia Kershner, a client of CAA at the time, was meeting Weinstein about a possible film in NYC. Weinstein wanted to exchange sex for the film opportunity. Kershner told her agent, manager, and his boss about the incident and was told to forget about it as it was pointless. CAA issued an apology after the report and has set up a fund for victims of harassment. CAA partner, Bryan Lourd, was asked about Weinstein's alleged harassment. Lourd cited client confidentiality but it was reported that Weinstein compla
ined to Lourd about Ronan Farrow's article. Lourd tried to arrange a meeting between the two which ultimately didnt work out. Farrow has left the agency since the news about Lourd and Weinstein came out.

Tabloid Journalists
Weinstein had a close relationship with tabloid journalists. He would often offer stories in exchange for reporters killing stories about his misconduct. Weinstein had an alliance with the publisher of the National Enquirer. He used the Enquirer to gather intel on his accusers and to help kill negative stories about him. Weinstein also worked with Peter Bart, one of the most powerful journalists in the industry. Bart had a hand in killing any negative story about Weinstein and his production company. Former reporters and editors at Variety called Bart his "greatest protector".

Army of Spies
In a jaw dropping article written by Ronan Farrow, it was alleged that Weinstein hired private security agencies to gather information on actresses and journalists that were trying to expose him. Weinstein hired Kroll and Black Cube. Kroll is one of the largest corporate intelligence agencies in the world and Black Cube is run by former officers of Mossad and other Israeli intelligence agencies. Two private investigators from Black Cube met with Rose McGowan and used false identities. They pretended to be womens rights advocates and even acted as they had an allegation against Weinstein. They met with journalists to find out which women were talking to the press. Journalists directed by Weinstein and private investigators interviewed these women and reported the details back to Weinstein.

Per the description: The new single lets the fans take a peek into what JiWoo, who has already been a popular trainee among fans, had to go through to become ‘Chuu’, and her desire to be loved by Yves, who also has said in her lyrics, “my heart that wants to be like you gets colored, filled with you.” The titled track “Heart Attack” does not interpret the feelings of being in love in a serious way, but with Chuu’s own adorable emoticon-like ways. The music video has references to historical and fictional figures such as the artist Rene Magritte, Hans Christian Andersen’s short story “The Little Match Girl”, and John Appleby’s novel “Aphrodite Means Death”.

My first and probably last post but I'm screaming in my room rn!!! This is so cute and the song is a bop. When I saw the teaser I saw people saying stuff like "sisterly admiration" and I was confused bc I definitely got romantic vibes from it. I'm glad they confirm it in the description and the MV is very clear too. I just wish that the song lyrics also used female nouns/pronouns like the love songs usually do. There are eng subs on the video too! Sorry if any of this is formatted wrong, mods.

Kate Winslet continues to promote Wonder Flop, talks more about Weinstein and Woody Allen

  • Weinstein never sexually harassed her but he would tell her he was responsible for her success every time he saw her (Winslet's breakout role in Heavenly Creatures directed by Peter Jacksonwas distributed by Miramax)

  • He also called her agent (Hylda Queally, the one Chastain thanked for protecting her) a c**t for years

  • She was also personally angry at him for releasing The Reader the same year as her passion project Revolutionary Road with Leo and her ex- husband Sam Mendes. She wanted to win the Oscar for RR, so when she was only nominated for The Reader she vowed not to thank Weinstein if she won (which she did)

  • She thinks she handled her post-Titanic fame really well

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of her fave roles because it's one of her few contemporary roles

  • Wonder Wheel was the third time Woody Allen offered her a role. She doesn't say which roles, but it seems as though she might have been offered a role in Melinda & Melinda

  • Profusely praises Allen's writing for female characters

  • She's asked about WW and the parallels to Allen's own life:
In the film a man has an affair with Winslet's character but then finds himself attracted to her much younger step-daughter.
"It was honestly never discussed. It was never discussed. And maybe that's not right, but it was never discussed."

  • She was going to pass on the part but her daughter told her to take it

The Ten Best Episodes of Animated Television This Year

$

SPOILERS AHEAD! This is four out of ten of the list, the rest can be viewed at the source.

Bojack Horseman - "Time’s Arrow"

In season 4's Penultimate episode "Time's Arrow" it explores the past of Bojack's mother Beatrice while incorporating visual themes of the horrors of dementia. While Beatrice is the bane of Bojack's existence and is the reason for a lot of his insecurities this episode showed us a new side to Beatrice that we've never seen before.

Samurai Jack - "XCIII"

While the series finale itself was controversial, the long awaited season 5 started out strong relying more on imagery than words to tell the story. This is especially the case with the second episode of the season with the reintroduction of Aku and Jack confronting the "Daughters of Aku" for the first time.

Steven Universe - "Stuck Together"

This episode allowed two of the characters with two completely opposite personality traits to confront each other and their feelings captured on a ship in the middle of space where the situation doesn't look to good. "Stuck Together" truly gave Lars the character development he needed and was the starting point for a great arc for him.

Rick and Morty - "The Ricklantis Mixup"

Instead of revolving around the main Rick and Morty we know who takes a trip to Atlantis, this episode is about all the other Rick and Morty's on the citadel making it one of the strongest episodes of the series. The episode showcases the social and political hierarchy of the citadel that wasn't as deeply explored before until now plus a twist ending that left viewers waiting for the continuation of this plotline.
