Brad Kern Investigated Twice in 2016 for HR Violations, Employees Say Behavior Continues

“NCIS: New Orleans”
Brad Kern took over the reins of “NCIS: New Orleans” as showrunner in January 2016, two separate HR investigations were launched into his behavior.
The inquiries centered on allegations of sexual harassment, discrimination against women — particularly working mothers —and racially charged comments, among other issues.

Kern makes sexualized remarks about women, has given them massages without asking, and mocked a nursing mother in front of her colleagues.

Racially insensitive behavior was also a problem. In the writers room, he would sometimes employ a stereotyped rendition of African-American speech patterns. Kern said it would not make sense to cast a black man as a romantic interest for a character played by a white woman.

Kern allegedly engineered the exit of Zoe McLellan, an original cast member who did not return for the third season, because, in his view, men didn’t find her “fuckable.”

Despite the CBS investigations, “NCIS: NOLA” continued to be a hostile work environment. They felt unheard, despite multiple attempts to register their concerns.

After Kern arrived, the number of departures increased: Around 11 writers or editors left or were fired in less than two years. Nine of them were women.

“Charmed”
Kern’s alleged behavior is part of a pattern that extends back decades, when he was the showrunner of “Charmed.”

He called the actresses on the show “bitches,” “trash,” “psychos” and “crazy."

He made fun of “Charmed” actress and producer Alyssa Milano when an illness caused her to gain some weight.

He held it up in front of everyone, a copy of the issue of Playboy that featured “Charmed”star Shannen Doherty. and he sat there critiquing every single photo.

The third and final season will be available on March 9th, 2018.

I know at least two other people here watch this show. Was this a planned three season run, or did Netflix cancel it? Will Mickey and Gus end up together? Is Bertie the best character? (I don't know, I hope not, and yes, obviously)

Murderous teen rapper Tay-K signs a record deal from behind bars

Tay-K rose to prominence with his hit song "The Race" about being on the run from the law. It was made and released while the then-16 year old Tay-K was a fugitive for months after cutting his ankle monitor off during house arrest for his first murder charge.

Fuck a beat, I was tryna beat a case

But I ain't beat that case, bitch I did the race
Beat it up, where I nut? Shorty face
Eli blast crackin' 4s like a vase
Pop a nigga then I go out my way
Do the dash then I go out the way

I woke up too moody, who gon' die today?
Shoot a fuckboy in his motherfuckin' face

While he was on the lam, he was reportedly involved in another murder and at least one assault case where he robbed and beat an old man nearly to death. It appears the murder charges he's facing will not be enough to slow down his music career as he was recently signed to the record label 88 Classic, which is owned by the Senior Vice President of A&R & Marketing at RCA, from jail.

In other wonderful soundcloud rap news, Tekashi 6ix9ine, who pled guilty to three felony counts of using a child in a sexual performance, has been having more success than ever and his song hit a new peak at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Does Riverdale Need to Tone Down the "Darkness"?

$

0

-This article says the show, which just aired its season two mid-season finale, is having an "identity crisis", flip flops between being a fun and soapy teen drama and the television equivalent of the word "edgelord"
-The wrap up of the Black Hood saga was a letdown to fans and critics alike, and the insistence of the show playing up its horror tropes all season was divisive
-Showrunner and head writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa originally pitched the show as a "coming-of-age" story before CW producer Greg Berlanti wanted it to be edgier
-Article recalls the success of WB teen dramas like Dawson's Creek and Everwood that focused on telling more grounded stories and developing its characters
-With the Black Hood saga done, the show is free to explore its characters deeper, focusing on interpersonal relationships/friendships, family drama, and general high school coming-of-age stuff with mysteries/nostalgia factor serving as the backdrop

Do you think Riverdale can save itself, or is it doomed to suffer the same fate as the once holy Gossip Girl? All I know is I'm gonna be watching the second half of season 2 like this:

Mark Hamill & Carrie Fisher once "made out like teenagers"

  • During the filming of the first Star Wars movies, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher started talking about his kissing techniques.  They had become close friends during filming, and they were attracted to each other, but he "knew from previous jobs that it would have been a bad idea [to get involved with someone on set]."

  • Mark Hamill just revealed that one time, when alcohol was involved, he said, "Well, I think I’m a fairly good kisser. I like to let the women come to me rather than be aggressive." And she said: "What do you mean?"  Next, they were "making out like teenagers."

  • Hamill says, "We were all over each other!  But the one thing that drew Carrie and me back from the precipice was we kind of became aware of what we were doing and just burst out laughing.  Which was unfortunate for me because the rocket launch sequence had been initiated."

  • After they got their make out session “out of our system,” he says, they became lifelong friends.

  • They became like siblings because "she had so many friends and I’d go to parties with her and I would be the only one there I’d never heard of. But there was a comfort level that we’d achieved because she knew I wasn’t ever angling for a favour or trying to get her to introduce me to this agent or this director."  He says, "Whenever I was on set, I would go straight to her trailer with my dog and hang out with her and her dog."

  • He says his crush on her never went away, and he's happy he didn't learn of her affair with Harrison Ford until after the movies had finished filming.  "I'm glad I didn't know before, as it probably really would have affected me. By the time I found out, I just thought it was hilarious."

Follow-up to THIS POST

- ICYMI, Matt Damon (friend of groper Ben Affleck and alleged sexual harasser Casey Affleck), gave an interview wherein defends Al Franken because "a pat in the butt" isn't so bad as rape and nobody's perfect, doesn't think he should have resigned. Although he hasn't really looked into what Louis CK has been accused of, he says it was "gross and shameful" but "not criminal", read his apology and thought it was great, thinks that he won't be doing those things again and that Louis has been punished enough.Thinks that people are "ruining the lives" of sexual assaulters like Louis CK by not forgiving them and that it just encourages men not to admit to having sexually assaulted women. (READ THE INTERVIEW HERE)

- Minnie Driver (his ex-gf with whom he broke up on national tv) isn't having it. She's also dragging people who are defending Demon on her mentions

Who went home on the second episode of Top Chef: Colorado?

Quickfire challenge: This episode's challenge was the classic mise en place relay race. The cheftestants were split into two teams (Green and Blue), and they had to complete three tasks: peel and finely dice a qt. of shallots, peel and slice a qt. of mushrooms, and clean and portion 20 pieces of beef tenderloin. The teams could assign any number of chefs to each task, but each chef could only do one task. The winning team of the race would then complete against each other to win the quickfire. The winning chef won $5,000 and dinner for a year from the sponsor.

Quickfire winner:

The Blue Team won the relay and Joe here was the overall winner

Elimination challenge: The teams from the quickfire stayed in place, and they had to create a four course meal that highlighted four chesses from a local farm.

Challenge winner:
Green Team won (though it also had the worst dish of the day, Tu's), but the overall winner was...

Carrie

Eliminated:

Claudette
(After trying to save herself by throwing her dish mate under the bus, which is always a classy move)

*****

Challenge: Claudette had to complete against current survivors Lee Ann, Kwame, and our dear friend, Marcel, to create a dish with curds, whey, and... canned tarantulas. Because those are a thing.

Challenge winner:

Claudette

Eliminated:

Marcel =(
(I felt kinda bad, tbh. He looked like he was about to cry.)

Hosea was on next week's promo, y'all. Apparently, having garbage as a guest judge (?) is something Top Chef thinks we want to see.

- On the Walking Dead: He has not kept up with the show, but says his role as Shane changed his life. "To play a character with a real beginning and end, on a show that popular, that was an unbelievable part. It wasn’t like I was inundated with offers after, but that was the experience that changed my life. I started getting into rooms, getting opportunities that were completely different to what I had done. It wasn’t even like my first gig. I’ll always be grateful to them for hiring me."

- He is not upset about not having any leading roles in the film he's appeared in this year; says that what is important to him is working with the best people. This year, he has had bit parts in Baby Driver and Wind River.

- His next film is the triller Shot Caller, starring alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. A large part of the film was shot in a real-life maximum security prison, with real prisoners.

- Says it's an honour to play Frank Castle because the character resonates a lot with people in law enforcement, the military and comic book fans.

Baauer & Mad Decent Label Files Copyright Claim Against Video Featuring FCC’s Ajit Pai & a Fascist

Yesterday, a Harlem Shake video made in 2017 went quasi-viral. Ajit Pai wanted to assure Americans they could do the Harlem Shake on the internet without Net Neutrality protections, so he made a video with the dude who got fired from Buzzfeed for plagiarism and a pizzagate conspiracy theorist who is also a white nationalist that supports a fascist clothing brand that uses Nazi iconography. Baauer, the artist behind “Harlem Shake,” was none too pleased his song was being used by a bunch of assholes without permission so he issued a takedown notice to YouTube with the support of his record label Mad Decent. You would think the chairman of the FCC would respect copyright law, right?

PS below the cut is a clip from the pulled video intercut with the pizzagate conspiracy theorist making a fool of herself (because she is a fool).
