Murray Miller’s lawyers retract statement that Aurora Perrineau demanded money from Miller

  • ICYMI actress Aurora Perrineau came forward last month ago claiming that she had been raped by Girls writer Murray Miller when she was a teenager. Miller denied the accusations and released a statement through his lawyers that Perrineau had only gone to the police after demanding "substantial" monetary damages from Miller

  • They finally corrected their statement with this one released today: In a previous statement to the media, we stated that Ms. Perrineau sought substantial monetary damages from our client Murray Miller. Neither Ms. Perrineau nor her attorney have ever made a demand for money. Our previous above statement was incorrect and the result of a good-faith misunderstanding.

A federal judge declared former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar a threat to children Thursday morning and sentenced him to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges -- essentially a life sentence for the 54-year-old former physician.

Nassar pleaded guilty in July to charges of obtaining and possessing child pornography as well as an additional charge of attempting to destroy evidence. Each of the three charges against him come with a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Nassar is also awaiting sentencing for 10 state counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which he pleaded guilty to in November.

WH Press Sec Sanders tweets out clarification: US will go to Olympics

Yesterday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said it was an "open question" whether the US would send its athletes to the Olympics due to security concerns. Today, at 1pm EST, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about it:

That's the kind of big decision that should've been made already in any sane administration, as a lot of people and organizations have substantial preparations to make. The Trump administration seems, quite suddenly, to be unaware that decisions can be unmade at a later date, should the necessity arise. Perhaps with that in mind, Press Secretary Sanders tweeted out a clarification at 2pm EST:

Gabrielle Union on the #MeToo movement: “I think the floodgates have opened for white women”

0

Gabrielle Union spoke about how women of color fit into the growing #MeToo movement.

She asserted strongly that women of color haven’t been heard as enthusiastically. “I think the floodgates have opened for white women,” she said. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence whose pain has been taken seriously. Whose pain we have showed historically and continued to show. Whose pain is tolerable and whose pain is intolerable. And whose pain needs to be addressed now.”

“If those people hadn’t been Hollywood royalty,” she asked, referring to some of the women who first spoke out about Harvey Weinstein. “If they hadn’t been approachable. If they hadn’t been people who have had access to parts and roles and true inclusion in Hollywood, would we have believed?”

She knows that her own platform gave her a place that allowed her to speak for people who have gone through similar experiences. She calls herself a “perfect victim”: not just because of her current celebrity status, but also because she was raped at work, because it was caught on surveillance and the police were called — but also because the majority of sexual assaults aren’t reported to the police, according the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.

“When we have the microphone, how often do we pass it back to the people who are experiencing a different challenge, but who are equally worthy as having the microphone?” Ms. Union asked.

And then she stopped herself. “I just did this,” she said, and stretched her hand backward, over her head, as if she was symbolizing a passing of the microphone to someone behind her.

But the microphone shouldn’t be passed behind, she said, acknowledging that many people still feel ignored.

“It should be passed to the side.”

Dylan Farrow writes an op-ed regarding Woody Allen being spared from the #MeToo movement

0

- Dylan recounts what happened to her as a child. Says that "A prosecutor took the unusual step of announcing that he had probable cause to charge Allen but declined in order to spare [her] from an exhausting trial".

- Calls out Kate Winslet, Blake Lively, and Greta Gerwig for speaking out on Weinstein but having little to say about working with Woody Allen.

- When asked about the matter Kate Winslet said: "I didn't know Woody and I don't know anything about that family. As the actor in the film, you just have to step away and say, I don't know anything, really, and whether any of it is true or false [...] Woody is an incredible director."

- In regards to Allen, Blake Lively has said "It's very dangerous to factor in things you don't know anything about. I could [only] know my experience."

- Dylan says that instead of going after her, the victim, people attack her mother.

- Her brother Moses has also turned on her, regarding which Dylan says "Moses now claims that my mother "brainwashed" him and "coached" me to accuse Allen, contradicting many years of testimony. Moses' comments are devastating, but like so many of the attacks on my story, irrelevant"

- Dylan says it "meant the world" to her when Ellen Page, Jessica Chastian and Susan Sarandon spoke out against Allen.

Mods please let me know if I have to change this at all! Also, this was a great op-ed, please take the time to read at the source.

Russell Crowe apologises for joke about “sodomising” female co-star

0

Russell Crowe was speaking at the 2017 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards in Sydney, telling the audience an anecdote about filming a sex scene with co-star Jacqui McKenzie in the film "Romper Stomper".

Crowe's Speech:
“I was sodomising Jacqui McKenzie on the set of Romper Stomper, and I didn’t actually intend to do that,” Crowe said. “I was trying to keep my bits away from her bits, and she’s been given one of those pieces of elastic that the girls get when you do those scenes, which protects them from all things, and my bits and pieces were in a little canvas sack with a drawstring”.

“And it wasn’t actually in my desire to keep the bits apart. It wasn’t until the opening night of the film that it was pointed out by none other than Jacqui McKenzie’s beautiful late mother that we were in fact, in her mind, engaged in sodomy. Anyway, that was just a story about sensitivity!”

Crowe has since apologized for his remarks, saying in a statement: “Actors and actresses by the nature of our job get thrown into some embarrassing, bizarre and extreme circumstances. It’s an ironic combination that sensitivity required for the job has also to be coupled with an ability to put aside your embarrassment and fears and cope with the humiliation.”
