MET conductor James Levine accused of sexual abuse by Four men who were teenager at that time .

The Victim says
“On various occasions he would ask me how I touched myself and then he would touch me the way I touched myself,” the victim wrote in his report. “I was never able to be aroused by this. But then he would masturbate himself at his bed or in the bathroom.”

The victim says similar behavior went on for years. He also claimed that Levine had given him an estimated $50,000 over the years. In his statement, the victim also claims that the incidents with Levine "nearly destroyed my family and almost led me to suicide."

Some opera lovers and others took to social media to question whether the Met knew about troubling behavior by Mr. Levine and why Peter Gelb and other leaders did not investigate him before now .

Michael Rapaport, mostly known for his role in Dr. Dolittele 2 and defending people like Chris Brown, couldn't resists to comment on John Oliver calling out Dustin Hoffman on the sexual harassment allegation made against him by several women:
Most people are calling him out, but fellow trash human Alec Baldwin has retweetet the tweet.

European reality tv show "Your face sounds familiar" does (a lot of) blackface

$
0
0

"Your Face Sounds Familiar" is a tv show franchise that got its beginnings in 2011 as the Spanish "Tu cara me suena". The basic premise of the show is that a few (10 or less) entertainers from different fields are rounded up and assigned allegedly random music artists they have to impersonate for every show. Sometimes they get voted out, sometimes it’s too confusing for me to try and make sense of it.

Over the years this show has spread around the world like an infectious disease, one of the symptoms of which is blackface. I had originally planned on writing a long and thoroughly researched ONTD Original on this at a later time but things started to unravel a bit earlier than I expected (which was never tbh, considering the local track record). Blackface, and possibly other racist acts, is quite common in the Estonian version of the show "Su nägu kõlab tuttavalt" and the finale of the 6th season featured 3 white girls doing blackface Salt-N-Pepa which outraged many people on- and offline.

However, as this is not the only time nor the only show from the franchise that has featured blackface and I was planning on writing a longer piece, I thought I'd add some more examples. And I was originally going to write how this show was problematic in monoracial, less developed countries or countries that have not been racially diverse or developed for very long but as I looked into it, even the original Spanish version has a ton. So here's a little list that honestly could be a lot longer.

Alyson "Aly" Eckmann is a 27 year ols Spanish tv personality who lived in the USA until she was 18.
The Spanish version is ongoing and the 6th season is currently airing.

Mando is a Greek singer who won the episode with this performance.
As a disabled person, this also comes off quite ableist.

Michael Pangilinan is a Filipino singer.
Whiteface isn't a thing.

Azis is a Bulgarian singer.
He is known for making really homosexual folk music.

And, last but not least, here a bunch of what inspired me to write this:
- This clip, the beginning of which features a whopping 4 performers in blackface. (Ella Fitzgerald, local artist Monika Tuvi, Ray Charles and Rihanna)
- According to a local news portal's listicle, there have been 69 cases of blackface on the show. Not sure whether this number includes the backup dancers and singers (probably not tbh).
- These performers imitating Alicia Keys, Macy Gray, Andre 3000 (credited as "Outkast"), Aretha Franklin (the only performance currently not listed on the show's wiki page), Lil Wayne, Boney M (or a member of it), Tony Braxton, Etta James, Kanye West, Rihanna, Michael Jackson (more than once), Nicki Minaj (2 in 1), Little Richard, Lenny Kravitz, M.I.A., Gloria Gaynor, Marvin Gaye, Minnie Riperton, The Village People, of course Salt-N-Pepa and many more.

The latest, 99th episode of Brooklyn Nine Nine featured one important revelation about a certain character.

STEPHANIE BEATRIZ ON HOW IMPORTANT THIS REVELATION WAS TO ROSA: I mean, if you’re 14 years old and an avid Twitter user, it’s probably been something that you’ve been hoping for for a while, so I don’t know if it’s a major revelation if you’re any kind of LGBTQ teen who’s desiring representation on TV. I think for Rosa, this is something she’s known about herself for a long, long time. For the audience, some people may be surprised, other people are going to rejoice and say, “Finally!” For me, as an actress, I’ve always felt something there. But for the writers, that’s something they’ve discovered organically over the last four seasons.

Fergie Crashes the Stage Twice at TrevorLIVE

Armie Hammer was in the process of presenting Tom Ford with an award for his work in LGBTQ rights when Fergie crashed the stage. She claimed to be Armie Hammer, said she was not shameless, and sang a little bit from of the alternate verse from “A Little Work,” which she tells the crowd you can buy at Target.

During her second stage crash, she jumped the stage while technical difficulties were being sorted out for Singer Shoshannah Bean. She tried to get the crowd to sing along to her song, but... “You don't know the other part, but that's cool, though. But you will!" She continued: "Just, I guess, with full shame or no shame, I don't know, get it on iTones…iTones? That's a new one. iTunes. Anyway, just get it if you want. You know what? Listen if you want. If you like it, listen, if you don't—don't! But it's a song that is really personal to me and...Give it up for Tom Ford! Trevor Project! This project. I wasn't even planned to speak tonight, but I guess I can't stand it when everyone else is up here singing. Um, but this project really means so much to me. I mean, honestly, reading about the suicide, uh, percentage and—“

Then the announcer cut her off by saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, the unpredictable Fergie!”

Keep in mind that The Trevor Project is an organization that works for suicide prevention among LGBTQ Youth. Perhaps not the best venue for self promo?

Friends,

I wrote a song for Tonya Harding. It’s not at all related to the new biopic (I sent it to the music supervisors but they couldn’t find a way to use it). This song has been years in the making. I’ve been trying to write a Tonya Harding song since I was 15. I wrote a short piece about it here. There are two versions of the song and we are releasing them on tape cassette (available now) and on 7-inch (available soonish).

Please enjoy. If you don’t know who Tonya Harding is, go see the movie, or read her Wikipedia page. She’s amazing. My prayer is peace on earth. Lord help us.

I love you Tonya.

California sheriffs have found Corey Feldman’s 1993 recorded testimony naming Hollywood pedophiles

Corey Feldman claimed in October that he had given the names of sexual predators in Hollywood to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office in 1993 during their investigation into Michael Jackson's molestation charges. The Sheriff’s Office denied those claims, saying they had no records of Feldman revealing such information, until now.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Kelly Hoover released a statement, “Following the recent inquiries into the Sheriff’s Office interview of Mr. Feldman in 1993, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office conducted an additional review for any stored items remaining from the Michael Jackson investigation. In a container which included the original reports from the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office located some detective working copies of audio recordings made during the investigation. A copy of Mr. Feldman’s interview was located. The recording is being turned over to the Los Angeles Police Department. Due to the fact that this case involves the alleged sexual abuse of a child, we are unable to comment further and any documentation or evidence related to this case is exempt from release.”

Blue Planet II: Oceans under greatest threat in history, warns Sir David Attenborough

$

In the final episode of the documentary series, Sir David Attenborough will issue a stark warning which details the damage being wreaked in seas around the globe by climate change, plastic pollution, overfishing and even noise.

Attenborough says: “For years we thought the oceans were so vast and the inhabitants so infinitely numerous that nothing we could do could have an effect upon them. But now we know that was wrong." [...] “It is now clear our actions are having a significant impact on the world’s oceans. [They] are under threat now as never before in human history. Many people believe the oceans have reached a crisis point.”

BBC producers were worried about the show being too politicised and therefore ordered a fact check, which the show passed. Mark Brownlow, the series producer, says “We just couldn’t ignore it – it wouldn’t be a truthful portrayal of the world’s oceans. We are not out there to campaign. We are just showing it as it is and it is quite shocking.”
