Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman let me stay with them when my mom was in the hospital for cancer surgeries
— Mara “Get Rid of the Nazis” Wilson (@MaraWilson) November 10, 2017
These last few weeks have been pretty heavy, so on twitter people shared positive celebrity encounters. For the record, this isn't meant to suggest these famous people must be flawfree. It's just something which helped to cheer me up, and I figured ONTD would enjoy it too.
What was interesting about these stories was that they came from a variety of perspectives.
Fellow actors:
I had a tiny role on a show w @PattyArquette& joked at one point that I wished it was possible to get a job where I got paid to pet kittens. At the end of the day, she offered to call a friend who ran a shelter so I could ACTUALLY GET A JOB PETTING KITTENS.

I worked with Kathy Bates this year, who is a wiseass. At one point while I was reading my script she tapped me on the shoulder. “Get your face out of that and watch me work, you might learn something.” Then walked away. KILLED me. Kathy Bates!! Queen.

I️ spent 2 days w Ted Danson on @nbcthegoodplace& he spent equal time regaling me w amazing showbiz stories & how much he loves his wife.
— Jamie Denbo (@jamiedenbo) November 11, 2017
Salma Hayek danced with my little sister at a party once, as did Shannon Doherty, and Spice Girl Mel C played Connect 4 with her. Lucy Liu was so incredibly kind and lovely when we worked together when I was nine that she became one of my first big crushes.

Worked on Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut Whip It! and she was immensely nice and set the tone for everyone from the top down. She got rid of ppl with bad attitudes/behavior. Also, cast was kind: Kristen Wiig, Ellen Page, Jimmy Fallon, Juliette Lewis, Eve, etc. pic.twitter.com/tUgvZepqrp

People who have worked behind the scenes:
Lucy Liu is otherworldly nice even if you're a lowly PA on the set of her TV show
— donate to my indiegogo please (@rachelmillman) November 10, 2017
As a PA, I once spilled a cooler full of water all over Julie Andrews living room floor, and when she caught me and the crew frantically wiping it up, she just laughed it off. And then her hubby Blake Edwards bought us Chinese food and told us BTS stuff about his movies.

This is second hand but my film production teacher at UNCW worked on the Sandra Bullock film 28 Days in Wilmington and Asheville NC. She threw a surprise party for all the crew at the inn she stayed in to thank them.
— Margaret Rasberry (@RasberryRazz) November 10, 2017
also when I was an intern at Conan (also a great guy!!), Tom Hanks bought all 50+ interns In-N-Out because he thought we looked hungry

Fans:
David Tennant not only graciously accepted an academic paper from a random fan in the Richard II stage door line but actually read it and sent me an appreciative note about it
— the cold genius (@angevin2) November 9, 2017
I was at stage door waiting my turn for an autograph from Ben Whishaw. When it was my turn, a very drunk, rude man stumbled over to us, tried to grab my phone. Ben kept his arm around me and stepped me back from him, & sort of just handled the guy. He was a true gent.

Met Maya Angelou on a plane. She sang “My Name’s Maya” to my daughter, which she had watched endlessly on a Sesame Street video. A very sweet woman.

People who have worked in retail/restaurants:
I used to work retail and helped @ReginaKing at the end of my 12+ hour shift. Helping her was just a pleasure and after we were done she invited me for drinks with her and her friends. She is so down to earth and funny. It was truly a blessing after a long day!
— Bianca Blocker (@beeblocker) November 20, 2017
My friend was waiting on Patrick Stewart at our Ann Arbor restaurant when he was there for the Shakespeare Fest. His booth table was a little warped & his water glass slid off table & shattered. He went “Oh that was rather spooky” & laughed with us as we cleaned it up for him. pic.twitter.com/D0N428nf4g
— Cindy Chu (@iamcindychu) November 14, 2017
As I was serving his table, Paul McCartney backed into me, causing me to tip over a double magnum of expensive red wine, which broke and ran all over the floor. With a flourish and a "ta da"he took the fall--making it look as if he had done it. ❤️

And people who didn't realise who they were talking to at the time:
At height of his popularity, Michael J. Fox was amazingly kind and giving to my in-laws who didn’t know him. Never told them his name. But the photo of the three proved it was him to amazed daughters.
— Rusty (@russwilliamsiii) November 10, 2017
Other stories were more about kind things celebrities devote time to which people may not be aware of:
Britney Spears regularly visits children’s hospital on the down low and helps out with Art Therapy classes and also teaches kid dance classes. Someone of her stature that’s pretty cool! pic.twitter.com/6DAoKTdkZc
— Liz (@lilliputt88) November 20, 2017
Finally, there were some famous names that popped up so often that I could honestly make individual posts for them:
Keanu Reeves
I talked to Keanu Reeves in the 1990s in line at a supermarket. We made fun of the tabloid stories as we waited. He gave the woman in front of him a dollar when she was looking for change in her purse. He was nice and funny,
— Spokane Happens (@SpokaneHappens) November 10, 2017
#KeanuReeves came to see the @LADerbyDolls and patiently and genuinely listened as my daughter explained the rules. He was incredibly kind. I really can't say enough about what a good guy he was to everyone who approached him that night. So down to earth; it was very cool. pic.twitter.com/u5GQDGrrwa
— Kyle Lawrence (@metallikyle) November 10, 2017
When I was 9 years old, alone, and lost at Chicago O'Hare Airport, Keanu Reeves saw that I was upset, came up to me, and walked me to my gate on the otherside of the Terminal.
— thegiftedchild (@thegiftedchild) November 13, 2017
David Hyde Pierce
I was assigned to look after honoree David Hyde Pierce at my theater school's annual gala my senior year. He was kind, utterly charming, and we had delightful conversation. At the end of the event he gave me the expensive gift basket provided to all the honorees. Top notch dude.
— hamish mcnasty (@majorlady) November 10, 2017
Met David Hyde Pierce in DC when he was testifying before Congress. He had jet lag but was gracious, kind and empathetic to dozens of Alzheimer’s caregivers at a gala until late into the night. Amazing man.
— jayohnie (@jayohnie) November 11, 2017
When I was a kid he was sitting in front of me at a show and offered to trade seats in case I couldn’t see over him.
— Megan Shook (@MeganShook) November 13, 2017
Robin Williams
robin williams was the nicest, most compassionate celebrity I ever had the pleasure of knowing in person. personally saw him threaten to beat the hell out of some rando harassing a homeless person in the ocean district six or so years ago
— fart noise aficionado (@caylenb) November 9, 2017
Also, Robin and i ran into one another almost every day for a two week period in SF. Finally, he asked if i was following him. I said no, I thought he was following me. We laughed and walked away.
— catherine (@pantone7605) November 11, 2017
Met Robin Williams at a comedy club when my drunk boyfriend went for the car and never came back. We talked for an hour and a half, and he paid for a cab to take me home. Really Really great human. Made a miserable situation, into a memorable one.
— Angel Garrett (@TheBlindAngel) November 13, 2017
There were so many stories that I couldn't put them all in one post. I'll try and post more in the comments though. To the mod who messaged me, I hope I interpreted your suggestion correctly!
ONTD, have you had any particularly lovely encounters with famous people?
