Every hero needs a great villain, that one rival that keeps popping their heads around to give the hero a run for their money and leave a lasting impact on a show/character. Here are 5 rivalries that left their lasting impressions!
Xena/Callisto: Xena: Warrior PrincessBest Moment: X:WP 1x22 "Callisto" From the first time we see the two square off, Callisto is immediately shown to be Xena's equal by being the first person in the series who is able to catch Xena's Chakram. A feat that only 4 people have been able to do in the series history.
What Makes Them Great: Callisto is a byproduct of Xena's past as a Warlord, one who grows up to be an even more twisted version of the Warrior Princess. Callisto only has 1 goal and that is to make Xena suffer and pay for her sins against Callisto's family.
Angel(us)/Spike: BTVS/AngelBest Moment: BTVS 3x08 "Lovers Walk". Spike returns to Sunnydale in an attempt to get Drusilla back, he briefly teams up with Buffy/Angel and in a drunken stooper tell them how it is when it comes to love. This helps push the couple over the edge later in the season to break up.
What Makes Them Great: Angel(us) and Spike are old friends with Spike being one of the few who truly knows Angels darker side. The two constantly were in a battle to be the best but Angelus wanting to bring about the end of the world forces Spike to step up and side with Buffy in an effort to take Angelus down.
Buffy/Faith: BTVSBest Moment: BTVS 3x21 "Graduation pt.1" After Faith poisons Angel, the Scooby Gang finds out that the only cure is the blood of a Slayer, luckily for them there are 2 in town. Buffy embraces her dark side and goes after Faith with the intent of using Faiths blood to cure Angel and willing to take Faiths life. The fight ends with Buffy stabbing Faith, one of the few times Buffy has gotten human blood on her hands.
What Makes Them Great: Buffy & Faith are like ying/yang, Faith is the girl Buffy could have turned out to be had she not had friends and family. Additionally, Buffy having friends and family is something that tortures Faith from the inside and is something that she yearns for herself pushing her further away from Buffy and into the clutches of The Mayor who has Faith embrace her villainess side.
The Doctor/The Master: Doctor WhoBest Moment: To many to count!
What Makes Them Great: The Doctor & The Master are two timelords who have been battling it out since 1971 when the character was first introduced. While The Doctor attempts to save time, The Master has no qualms about disrupting it and trying to conquer others. They fight, they team up, it is an endless cycle that has spanned many regeneration's.
Oliver Queen/Slade Wilson: ArrowBest Moment: Arrow 2x23 "Unthinkable" Season 2 culminated in one of Arrows biggest showdowns, after seeing how Oliver/Slade became allies, we now saw them becoming enemies. The showdown between them took place both in present day and flashbacks.
What Makes Them Great: One of the best things Arrow has done in it's run is introduce the audience to Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke. While comic fans knew of Slades darker side, Arrow took time to develop the relationship between Oliver and Slade over 2 seasons before bringing in Slade to be the big bad during Season 2.
