"We all knew." The Director of the Royal Court Theater Speaks Out, Takes Responsibility.

The reason I’m so angry is I’m so shocked that we’d got to this point and we’d all accepted it. We all knew about it! We. All. Knew. (...) I knew that pretty much every single woman I know had suffered sexual harassment in her life. I knew that, and I’d just accepted that. I’m hardwired to accept it. I’m a feminist, and when I talk about it, it shocks me. But I had literally accepted it, like I accept that we have a class system. I’d accepted it like I accept that there are homeless people. And that’s just bizarre – but it’s what we’ve done. And then suddenly someone speaks out, and you start to think, why are we as a society accepting of this situation?”

  • Talks about the pervasiveness and acceptance of sexual harassment in the industry

  • The Royal Court invited members of the industry to submit their experiences of the sexual abuse of power

  • They got 150 testimonies, which were then read out to an audience of actors, directors, and drama students

  • Featherstone and her team have since drawn up a code of behavior

  • Says more women (and men) will come forward

  • Says predators know exactly what they're doing

Diplo Insults Taylor Swift... Again

- In a recent interview with Rolling Stone for its November issue, Diplo suggests the Taylor Swift is no longer relevant with today's youth, and only was because of how she marketed herself. Diplo shared:
"Music is in the hands of the kids. Streaming is literally what kids want to listen to over and over again. They want to listen to ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Bodak Yellow.’ They don't want to listen to, like, ‘Look What You Made Me Do". That music doesn't relate to them at all. I don't think it ever did. They were only given that by radio and marketing budgets. I'm impressed with Post Malone. I can relate to him more than Taylor Swift.”
- Last time Diplo came for Taylor Swift, he told British GQ it wasn't his best decision: “All I know is, don't ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift. She has like fifty million people that will die for her. It's like an army that's worse than North Korea. You can't step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for.”

Jonathan Groff Discusses Final Scene of Mindhunter's Season 1 Finale

$

  • Groff knows no one likes his character at the end of the season (or the start, let's be real), but finds Holden easy to empathize with

  • The final scene is purposelly played as if Ed Kemper is the jilted ex-lover of Holden

  • The final scene was meant to show the evolution of Agent Ford and his eventual breakdown at the cause of his own hubris and the strain of back-to-back rejections from important people in his life

  • Series creator Joe Penhall was the one who suggested the terrifying hug serial killer Kemper gives Holden while in rehearsals for the scene

  • Other tidbits:

  • Groff, Holt McCallany, who excellently plays his partner Agent Tench and John Douglas maintain an email chain and regular contact. John Douglas wrote the book on which the show is based on

  • Was just as troubled by the tickling principal as we were but hopes the audience was divided on the issue Mmm how about NO. The principal was in the wrong point blank.

  • The reaction he received the most about the show was that people told him they were addicted and couldn't stop watching it(which isn't the same as saying a show is good but I digress). Groff finds the interest inspiring and thrilling

  • How did you all feel about that final scene? When Kemper says “I could kill you now. Then you'd be with me in spirit” I almost cried from the horror

Ballet post: Tiler Peck on the Ellen de Generes show! (1st Ballerina ever!)

    Tiler debuted in Swan Lake

On 0:58 you can see her earring fly off lol.

On each of her 2 outings she had 8 curtain calls:

I'm not sure if this was her debut performance.

The other Swan Lake debut was Megan Fairchild, here's a tidbit of her performance here. Both Tiler and Megan are shorter but Peter Martins took a risk and it paid off, because both of them appreciated it more after recent life experiences (Megan was apparently the most emotionally-mature Odette, no fake pained faces a la Sara Mearns lol).

Anyway, Elizabeth Moss is producing a documentary about Tiler with Vulcan Productions:
    - The project will follow Peck, New York City Ballet and other dancers as they work together to put on three performances in Ballet Now, Los Angeles.
    - Peck, at just 27 years old, is the youngest woman chosen to organize this event
    - The untitled documentary is said to be a "passion project" for both Moss and Allen. -
    - Vulcan Productions' previous art-focused work includes STEP.
    - The documentary will be directed by Steven Cantor. It is set to debut on Hulu in 2018.

Robert Fairchild to Leave New York City Ballet

Had you been thinking about making this decision for a while?

I remember a moment when, after an “American in Paris” show, my parents called me to say they had found an essay I wrote in fourth grade about Gene Kelly, and how I wanted to be like him and dance on Broadway. I had been in a ballet company for so long, I had forgotten that was my original dream.

But you work your butt off to get to New York City Ballet, and leaving isn’t a decision you can make lightly. It was a decision that took years to make. After “Oklahoma!” I got offstage and thought, I can’t imagine doing anything else right now. I think whenever there is a dream, you’ve got to jump.

You will be choreographing for “Frankenstein.” Is that part of what you want to do in the future?

I don’t want to overshoot myself. I’ve never said no to opportunities, but my main goal is performing. I am looking forward to doing more work in front of the camera. I loved playing Ted Shawn, the choreography and the period detail; there is a different skill set to be learned. I love to tell stories, so whether it’s a musical, a play, a TV show, it all excites me.

Which ballets will you most miss dancing in?

Alexei Ratmansky’s “Namouna” was one of the most special things I ever had choreographed on me. And Jerome Robbins’s “Opus 19”; you can’t hide any flaws and it pushed me on such an emotional journey. And “Duo Concertant,” which encapsulates what I love about dance and why I wanted to be in Balanchine’s company. It’s like tap dancing with ballet shoes, skimming like a stone on water.

    More here

His last performance was Duo Concertant with Sterling Hytlin, his long time partner ons stage:

    On his style:

"I love dressing up, and I think part of it is just obviously wanting some attention, but it also makes me feel very good. It makes me feel happy wearing something that's, like, just got a bit more personality, I think."

"He would sometimes have two or three outfit changes on set" — Chris Hemsworth

On his pineapple outfit from Comic Con:

"A lot of people thought it was a romper, but it was a shirt and shorts … It's a bummer that a lot of people saw that outfit, because I probably won't wear it in public again."

    On hiring indigenous people:

"You'll never look at my films and crew and be able to say, you need more brown people"

Cate Blanchett on signing up for a Marvel movie to work with him, and his personality:

"I was obviously a huge fan of his previous films … I was super excited at the prospect of not only working with him but of his left-of-field loop-bag sensibility butting up against the Shakespearean earnestness of the Thor comics."

“He is a profound pedagogue—he says so himself. I felt very safe in his warm yet brutal embrace. He’s like a cross between a teddy bear and a meat grinder."

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, drifters, and misfits, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression, making one-night stands in town after endless town. A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that he meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, who is married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her.

Beautifully written, Water for Elephants is illuminated by a wonderful sense of time and place. It tells a story of a love between two people that overcomes incredible odds in a world in which even love is a luxury that few can afford.

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson #1)by Darynda Jones

This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.
A flow chart would have been nice.

Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can't she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?

The Beautiful Land by Alan Averill

    Takahiro O’Leary has a very special job…

…working for the Axon Corporation as an explorer of parallel timelines—as many and as varied as anyone could imagine. A great gig—until information he brought back gave Axon the means to maximize profits by changing the past, present, and future of this world.

If Axon succeeds, Tak will lose Samira Moheb, the woman he has loved since high school—because her future will cease to exist. A veteran of the Iraq War suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Samira can barely function in her everyday life, much less deal with Tak’s ravings of multiple realities. The only way to save her is for Tak to use the time travel device he “borrowed” to transport them both to an alternate timeline.

But what neither Tak nor Axon knows is that the actual inventor of the device is searching for a timeline called the Beautiful Land—and he intends to destroy every other possible present and future to find it.

The switch is thrown, and reality begins to warp—horribly. And Tak realizes that to save Sam, he must save the entire world…

6788784The Hungry Season by T. Greenwood

It's been five years since the Mason family's holiday at the lakeside cottage in north Eastern Vermont, close to where prize-winning novelist Samuel Mason grew up. The summers that Sam, his wife, Mena, and their twins Franny and Finn spent at Lake Gormlaith were noisy, chaotic, and nearly perfect.

But since Franny's death, the Masons have been flailing, one step away from falling apart. Lake Gormlaith is Sam's last, best hope of rescuing his son from a destructive path and salvaging what's left of his family. As Sam struggles with grief, writer's block, and a looming deadline, Mena tries to repair the marital bond she once thought was unbreakable.

But even in this secluded place, the unexpected - in the form of an over-zealous fan, a surprising friendship, and a second chance - can change everything.

"Women are undervalued. Equal pay for equal work. The value for human life isn't anything. It's all about getting that shot on time so that we make our money back. People get hurt in the process."

"There are some very dark negative things that go on on set, between actors or between actors and directors—specifically to actresses—that we have to go through. There's no morality or integrity within the studio system. It's completely about greed. If there was a way to change that, I of course would."

"You can't shut down a movie set—it's $2 million a day halted—even though insurance covers it. We usually fight through the injuries. As long as your face looks OK, they don't care and they want you to keep shooting anyway."

"I think we have to be supportive of each other. It's such a patriarchal and misogynistic workplace. When I get a script, almost always when a man writes a script or produces a movie, the female roles will ultimately be in service of the male character."
