Michael Fassbender's "The Snowman" Flops with Critics

$

Based on a novel of the same name by Jo Nesbø, the film is about a detective named Harry Hole trying to find a killer who uses snowmen as his calling card

It doesn't help that there was 10-15% of the script they didn't film which apparently left plot holes that they tried to solve in the editing room: “Our shoot time in Norway was way too short, we didn’t get the whole story with us and when we started cutting we discovered that a lot was missing," said director Tomas Alfredson. But he also defends the geography of the film. “It’s not a documentary about the geography of Norway, I wanted to make a fictive thriller,” he says. “So even if not everything is geographically correct, I don’t give a shit.”

The film was originally supposed to be directed by Scorsese, but he eventually just took on a producing role.

It's currently at 10% on Rotten Tomatoes

Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair

Alison Willmore of BuzzFeed

Philadelphia Inquirer: The Snowman registers both as a bad thriller and a kind of anti-tourism ad that makes you never want to go to Oslo.

EW: A twisty tale of inexplicable red herrings, baffling plot detours, and Chloe Sevigny as not one but two identical chicken farmers

Rolling Stone: It's bad. A bit of a full-on Nesbøner, in fact.

Detroit News: Playground snowball fights have more suspense and intrigue than "The Snowman," the most puzzlingly bad movie of the year.

Vox: The Snowman does have the distinction of being so bad it's almost worth watching, just to recalibrate your movie-viewing meter.

Globe and Mail: Completely, atrociously, perhaps even impressively, stupid.

Uproxx: There's a frozen loogie at the heart of The Snowman

Seattle Times: The first half-hour in particular feels like there's no plot at all, just a highlights reel of Random Norwegian Crime Films In Which Everything Is Ominous and Everyone Looks Really Cold.

The Tracking Board: It adds up to what can only be described as a scorched-earth failure, a near-complete misfire that doesn't even work on the most fundamental levels as a film.

Indiewire: For all the considerable nous assembled either side of the camera, no one can rescue it from its own mediocrity: if this were the opening act of a TV miniseries, you'd be exploring other channels some time between the second and third ad breaks.

  • She was one of the women who came forward to talk to the New Yorker about being raped by Weinstein

  • While the American media has largely condemned Weinstein, in her native Italy Argento has been mocked in the press who have mostly taken to trying to prove that she's lying when not blaming her for being raped

Jessie Ware opens up about her brutally honest new album and being paid dust by Nicki Minaj

$

With the her third album Glasshouse, Jessie Ware released the only music worth checking for this week. She spoke to GQ about new motherhood, writing her most honest body of work yet, and being "mistakenly" uncredited on the tracklist of rape apologist Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint.

Summary:
• Feels most comfortable writing about her personal life/relationships with friends like Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran
The song "Sam" (her husband's name), which she co-wrote with Sheeran, marks the most direct references she has made to people in her life lyrically: "I hope [my mother] knows that I found a man far from my father/Sam, my baby, and me" (Ware's parents "didn't work out")
• Recognizes her albums' lack of "bangers" and the fact that she is not particularly known/blowing up the charts, feels making a third album was important to maintaining what fanbase she has cultivated
• Does not believe she is famous enough to book a session with Max Martin, but feels she has an equivalent in her partnership with Blanco
Once submit a demo to Britney Spears but doubts she heard it: "I think it was emo. I think I went emo or dark Britney. Probably why she didn't want it! I basically made a depressing song."
Glasshouse is her "offering" to her husband, and the title came from a poem her friend sent her called "I Built Myself a House of Glass" by Edward Thomas
• "The Crying Game" was written in her first session with producer/songwriter Pop Wansel, and nobody thought it was right for her. Nicki voiced interest in recording the song, retaining Ware's vocals on the chorus. An "office mistake" led to her being the only artist not given a feature on the tracklist for The Pinkprint, which was "a real fucking shame": "it would have been quite helpful for me to have been featured."

Paris Jackson joins relief efforts in Puerto Rico

· Paris is in Aguadilla, PR helping distribute water provided by Bethenny Frankel's organization (??) B Strong
· Bethenny was on the ground in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in TX and made headlines during her visit to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria struck the island, wiping out power & roads and killing at least 49 people (it's difficult to know how many people were killed - & the tally will probably be much higher - because of the damage and how poorly relief efforts have been handled by the Trump admin)
· 29 days after the hurricane struck PR, almost 80% of people have no power and 1 million are without water. There has been concern about contaminated water (although water from 3 wells in Dorado were recently tested & determined to be safe) while Puerto Rico's state epidemiologist Carmen Deseda says there were 74 suspected case of leptospirosis in October (PR usually sees about 60 per year) because of standing water

Shay on the Spin-Off News:“I was super excited for everybody when I first heard about it — I think it’s amazing. It’s going to be so much fun for Sasha and Janel. And why not? The fans love it. For me, it was like hearing that Sex and the City was getting a movie. I was such a huge fan of that show, and that just extended my enjoyment of it. So I think it’s great. Some of the fans may have grown up and moved on, but other fans want more. They want to find out what happens to certain characters. This show will really get into the aftermath of what happened in Rosewood.”

Maybe?

“It’s just difficult with all of our schedules right now. At the end of the day, regardless of whether I’m on it or not, I will 100-percent support the show and be a fan of it myself. But we’re all just doing so many different things right now, so it’s hard to commit to something like that.”

Other than Instagram vacationing, Mitchell is busy and has several projects on the way: She’s set to star in The Heiresses by PLL Troll I. Marlene King. She has an upcoming horror flick titled Cadaver and is also filming her Lifetime drama television show You.All while teaching dance classes at 8pm in Studio City at the Millennium Dance Complex.
