Project Runway's cheating scandal, explained

$

When the Project Runway season 16 trailer was released, a supposed case of cheating was teased. In last week's episode, we could finally see what was going on.

It all started in Client on the Go, aired on October 5th, where the designers had to create a print and a look for familiy and friends of Project Runway crew members. Everything was going well until when Margarita Alvarez told Michael Brambila that former contestant and Twinning winner Claire Buitendorp was ripping off a previous look Margarita made for the show and how she "is gonna be upset if she wins". However, she didn't confront Claire at any moment.

Runway time, and this was Claire's final look

which received a high score. On the other hand, Margarita (who had immunity for winning the last challenge), Margarita was arguing to the judges that they don't know what happens backstage, but she doesn't reveal anything to them either.

In the end, Claire won the challenge, leaving Margarita really mad and this:

Michael walked off the stage! Everybody was confused. Heidi asked what was going on and at took a while until Batani-Khalfani explained the whole Margarita/Michael - Claire feud. Margarita then accused Claire (and her already eliminated sister, Shawn) of """unfairly recreating designs""".

The judges defended Claire, affirming that using other designers' looks as inspirations is not against the rules. So, in the end, Claire's victory stands.

In the backstage, Tim Gunn asked Michael why did he walk off the stage. Brambila told him that he came to the show to play fair, and that he is seeing anything but fairness at the moment. He also said that Claire was using a retractable ruler to measure her own clothes in her room to see the proportions and fitting. Tim said they would look further in this situation, and, if it was, indeed, true, these actions would have consequences.

In the greenroom, the discussion continued, and the contestants keep confronting Claire about the measuring tape. One of them, Amy, even pointed that how she ripped off the clothes was the real issue here.
A few moments later, Tim entered and started questioning Claire (you can see the video at source 3, I can't embed it for some reason). Here is the transcription:

"Tim: First things first, Claire, is it true that you’ve had a measuring tape in your room?
Claire: I have a measuring tape.
Tim: Is it true that you’ve been measuring garments in your room?
Claire: I have measured a tank top and I have measured the crotch of a pair of pants.
Tim: Alright. Claire, we must rescind your win and send you home.
Claire: Okay. That’s fine."

The twin's journey ended right there. "I'm very regretful that I even considered holding onto something I shouldn't have had," Claire said of her exit. "Project Runway has been something I wanted to be a part of since I watched it when I was in my early teens. These are the worst possible circumstances to leave this competition. But that's how my story's going to end."

Fun fact: Claire is the second contestant to be desqualified. In season 3, Keith Michael was eliminated for keeping pattern-making books in the apartment.

The victory was, now, sent to Brandon.

1992 Olympic Champion, Tatiana Gutsu, says fellow teammate and champion, Vitaly Scherbo raped her

Inspired by #MeToo, Tatiana Gutsu, the 1992 female Olympic all around champion, shared a facebook post about being raped by Vitaly Scherbo, the 1992 male Olympic all around champion. Both were on the Soviet national gymnastics team for years and competed for the Unified Team, the last Olympic team where the former countries from the Soviet Union all competed together. Gutsu is from Ukraine and Scherbo is from Belarus. Gutsu, Scherbo, Tatiana Toropova, and Rustam Sharipov all competed for the Soviet Union at the 1991 DTB Cup in Stuttgart, Germany. Gutsu says that Scherbo raped her at that competition when she was only 15 and he was 19. She also says that Toropova and Sharipov also knew about the rape, but did nothing to help her. It is unclear because English isn't her first language, but some Russian speakers say that she meant that Toropova heard the rape happening, but didn't stop it, and that Sharipov acted as a bodyguard for Scherbo while he raped Gutsu. Scherbo has owned a gymnastics club for both boys and girls in Las Vegas, called Vitaly Scherbo School for Gymnastics, since 1998. Sharipov has been the head coach for Ohio State's men's gymnastics program since 2011.

Aly Raisman, Dominique Moceanu, and Kathy Johnson, American gymnasts who have been vocal critics of USA Gymnastics and Larry Nassar, have tweeted their support for Gutsu.

McKayla Maroney, a member of the Fierce Five that won gold in 2012 and a 2x vaulting world champion, opened up about her experience with former USA gymnastics team doctor of 20+ years, Larry Nassar. McKayla was one of the 140+ victims that sued Larry Nassar for sexual assault under the guise of treatment and USA gymnastics for failure to report sexual assault to the authorities. She is now going public with her story. In 2016, she opened up in an interview with gymcastic about dealing with depression, injuries, and her coaches, Artur Akopyan and Galina Marinova. Another gymnast coached by them, Mattie Larson, was also one of Nassar's public victims. Along with Nassar and USA Gymnastics, she also named the Karoylis, Akopyan, and Marinova in her lawsuit.

- Says the energy of the people from South America is incredible (op: we been knew).
- A fan of The Strokes shouldn't go to a The Voidz show if they want to listen to mainstream indie rock:
"I'm a terrible businessman, but one part of my mind says, 'Everyone should come.' I don't understand some of those people from the old school who grew up loving The Strokes and are now criticizing this new exploration. I wrote all the songs that you love and now you don't want me to change? I don't know. I respect the opinion, but I also don't give a fuck."
- When asked if the fact that more synthesizers than guitars are sold today is something that bothers him:
"[...]
I don't think, 'Oh, rock is dead.' There's some hip-hop music that's inspiring. There's a lot of old music to be rediscovered, like jazz from the 40s, underground stuff, legendary popular music that we don't listen to for some reason. The new artists of tomorrow will discover all that, so I don't limit myself to genres. I just believe that as long as music moves forward, who cares if rock is no longer what it was?
"
- If the music industry should be more combative (as a form of political resistance):
"Well, yeah. For me, the music industry is basically a disaster, but I think there's a parallel between quality music and political truth. The most political music is probably rap, but even the mainstream rap isn't very political, you know?
On the one hand, I think that music is a dangerous thing because it gives you a kind of escape, and politics is rubbing the problem in your face. Sometimes it's a downer; it doesn't matter if it's Bob Marley who's on the stage telling you, 'I'm going to tell you who to vote for'—that's just not sexy. Sometimes, people just want to lose themselves in music. Politics in general, as we know, is really boring. It's not so much about government policies, but about philosophy, about bigger picture issues, about what kind of world, system, and society we want.
[...]"

- No news about The Strokes. [Julian Casablancas voice] I don't know her.
- He's obsessed with coffee at the moment, even though he hates it.

Hollywood’s Other ‘Open Secret’ Besides Harvey Weinstein: Preying on Young

Ira Madison of The Daily Beast writes this article about Hollywood's other secret

-Addresses Corey Feldman's remarks about Hollywood and child abuse in light of Harvey Weinstein
-How Corey can't name the creeps/abusers b/c of state of limitations in California
-NDA's and the stigma attached with going forward leads many in fear to come out
-Hollywood is an easy place for them to be in close proximity with young children
-An Open Secret documentary exposed a lot of pos in Hollywood and one of the victims in the film was abused allegedly by Bryan Singer, but his case dismissed but still the stories don't lie

Evan Rachel Wood is also not believing it either

-Basically with Noah Selvin (actor) speaking out about Bryan Singer's alleged behavior and with Harvey's downfall, the dominoes are falling to see who's next. Although what he said in the interview was problematic, it did speak of how Bryan's behavior isn't an open secret to those in Hollywood. Also Victor Salva needs to go and many more will in the wake of Weinstein.
-Also this is my first post, so I'm still a bit wonky so please forgive me.
