Jason Momoa issues apology over GOT rape joke

$

- Back in 2011, at Comic Con, Jason Momoa made this inappropriate joke. It was in reference to his character Khal Drogo:

"As far as sci-fi and fantasy, I love that genre because there are so many things you can do, like rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it and rape beautiful women”

- Today, the video was making its rounds on Twitter and Jason issued an apology on his Instagram

"I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago in Hall H for which I am sorry,” Momoa said. “I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day. I know my sincerest apology now won’t take away those hurtful words. Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends.”
He continued: “I made a truly tasteless comment. It is unacceptable and I sincerely apologize with a heavy heart for the words I said.”

- Jason will play Aquaman in the Justice League movie next month. And in a solo Aquaman movie next year

Edit: The woman who posted the vid has taken it down and her Twitter is locked. I hope she wasn't getting threats. :(

Horror production company Dread Central mocks Weinstein victims with "joke" post

$
0

In a now-deleted post, new horror production company (most recently best-known as a film review site) Dread Central's response to the news of Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulting hundreds of women in Hollywood was to... make a punch-down joke about it. Under the pseudonym "Gale Weathers" (perhaps to cleverly tie things back to outspoken survivor Rose McGowan, who starred in Scream, or, more likely, to cowardly avoid any accountability for whomever truly wrote the "article"), Dread Central wrote:

Today, Dread Central launched its horror film distribution deal with Epic Pictures, called Dread Central Presents, in which the site moves from list-icle genre reviews to actually finance, produce and distribute feature horror films under the new label. One wonders if the immediate deletion of its Weinstein post has anything to do with that.

Coming on the heels of a Los Angeles based women's genre festival tweet on the situation, which some have interpreted as shading Weinstein's other victims for waiting too long to speak out - as well as constant continued support for Devin Faraci and Victor Salva among several noted genre journalists throughout Los Angeles - this isn't a great look for the local film/horror community.

“I'm a believer that you wait until this thing gets to trial," Stone said, continuing: "I believe a man shouldn't be condemned by a vigilante system. It's not easy what he's going through, either. During that period he was a rival. I never did business with him and I didn't really know him. I've heard horror stories on everyone in the business. So, I'm not going to comment on gossip. I'll wait and see, which is the right thing to do."

-Celebs lashing out against Tramp is not new, but when George Clooney and Meryl Streep do it, it does not have as much impact in the liberal echo sexual assault chamber that is Hollywood as it does with artists like Eminem, whose state voted for Trump and is also home to the soon-to-be senator and 45 supporter, Kid Rock.

Bella's mom recently gave an interview revealing that Bella Hadid may finally be over her first love and ex The Weeknd, who started dating Gomez soon after their split.
Weeknd-Bella-Hadid-Grammys-2016
When asked if Bella now cares about him dating Selena her mom said: "Not anymore, I think". Her mom also said her and Drake are friends but rumor is Bella and Drake are dating?? (Drake apparently threw her a 21st bday party and they had dinner before)

They had dinner in June, he was seen leaving The Nice Guy meanwhile she exited before him and went into one of his vehicles.

One source also previously said, "Bella is majorly crushing on Drake despite warnings from her sister and other friends that he is a player. Bella and Drake have hung out a few times and their chemistry is amazing whenever they are together.”

Bella also previously spoke out about the relationship with Abel and how tough it was for her to deal with their breakup saying:"As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it's always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily."

She said it was her first breakup and it was tough for it to be so public.

Woody Allen is part of the Weinstein scandal-- will Hollywood address it this weekend?

$

As Hollywood and the media comes to grips with the facts of Harvey Weinstein's fall from grace, a common thread comes up over and over-- silence and complicity. There is one aspects to this situation which the media has largely ignored, and that is the role Harvey Weinstein had in protecting other sexual predators... and particularly, Woody Allen.

Ronan Farrow, Woody Allen's son, wrote the blistering expose that brought to light claims of not only sexual harassment against Weinstein, but rape. Weinstein is now known as a sexual predator, and in the 1990s he protected Woody Allen from the scandal of marrying his adopted daughter, barely of age, and leaving naked photos of her as an underage girl at home. NBC Apparently has tried to claim that Farrow's connection to Weinstein through his father is part of why they wouldn't run the story.

On Saturday, Woody Allen's next movie will premier. His stars, Justin Timberlake and Kate Winslet, will be there to promote the movie. Will they be asked about the fact that not only did Woody Allen marry his adopted daughter, but that his biological daughter says she was sexually abused by him? Will Woody Allen be held accountable at last for abusing a child?

TRIGGER WARNING: DESCRIPTION OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IMMEDIATE BELOW

Reread Dylan Farrow's Open Letter. "What’s your favorite Woody Allen movie? Before you answer, you should know: when I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother’s electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me. He talked to me while he did it, whispering that I was a good girl, that this was our secret, promising that we’d go to Paris and I’d be a star in his movies. I remember staring at that toy train, focusing on it as it traveled in its circle around the attic. To this day, I find it difficult to look at toy trains."

Producer Isa Hackett accuses Amazon exec Roy Price of sexual harassment

$

Isa Hackett, a producer on The Man In The High Castle (and daughter of the author of the books on which the production is based), accused Amazon exec Roy Price of sexual harassment today.

She alleges Price told her "You will love my dick" when they were in a cab together after a comic-con event and headed for a work related party. Once at the party he leaned into her and said "Anal sex!" loudly in her ear. She made it clear she wasn't interested.

Price comes from a Hollywood connected family and is the son of Frank Price who once ran Columbia and Universal Studios. He produced the Oscar winning film Manchester By The Sea last year for which Casey Affleck took home Denzel Washington's Best Actor award. He has since been suspended from his job.

Amazon issued a statement saying "We take seriously any questions about the conduct of our employees...We expect people to set high standards for themselves; we encourage people to raise any concerns and we make it a priority to investigate and address them. Accordingly, we looked closely at this specific concern and addressed it directly with those involved."

ONTD Original™ - Halloween Edition: 10 Horror Movies with Scary Phone Calls

$
0
0

Have you ever answered the phone to hear nothing but silence? No verbal response from whomever is calling you, but maybe you can hear them breathing. Click, they're gone. Or are they? How would you feel if this happened to you several times at night when you're alone, or in a stranger's house babysitting? Well, below are just ten horror movies that use the scary phone trope. Time to check the Caller ID.

When a Stranger Calls (1979)
A babysitter in charge of two kids starts to receive menacing phone calls. The police trace the calls to a secondary line in the house. The babysitter barely escapes with her own life after an intruder, who has already killed the children, reveals his whereabouts within the house. Years later, the detective on the unsolved case searches for the man upstairs while the babysitter tries to move on with her life.

This movie, based on the classic urban legend, has one of the most perfectly chilling openings in a horror movie ever, but the middle portion of the movie is tedious and uninteresting. The film was followed by an overall more engaging TV-made sequel in 1993, When a Stranger Calls Back, and an adequate if not tame 2006 remake.

Black Christmas (1974)
The remaining sisters in a sorority house during Christmas break are terrorized by a madman over the phone. One by one, the young women then start to disappear...

Halloween is credited to be the first slasher by many, but four years before that even came out, this darkly humorous and twisted movie from the director of A Christmas Story was released. There isn't a big body count, and the ending is unresolved. Yet Black Christmas retains a sinister charm even after all these years. The movie was loosely remade in 2006 with one of the actors from the original, Andrea Martin, playing a different character.

Prom Night (1980)
A group of high school students receive ominous phone calls before the prom. They are then attacked by a masked assailant during said event.

This Halloween inspired mystery with Jamie Lee Curtis was disliked by many critics, but like most horror movies, Prom Night was critic proof and it made a good chunk of money at the box office. Over the years, complaints of the movie's pacing and lack of kills until halfway in have been combatted with an undying sense of nostalgia. Regardless of its supposed flaws, Prom Night is considered a classic slasher by many fans of the subgenre. There are three sequels, which are unrelated except for taking place at the same school, and a very tension-less remake released in 2008.

Out of the Dark (1989)
A clown-masked killer calls and kills the operators at a phone sex hotline.

This 1989 erotic horror is pretty sleazy. If you can accept that and decide to watch it, there are some decent scares to be found in Out of the Dark. This movie features Divine's last role.

Ring(1998)
A reporter investigates a local myth about a cursed videotape. After watching the a copy of the tape, viewers will receive a phone call. They will then die seven days later.

Outside of the 2002 remake with Naomi Watts, this is the most well-known adaptation of Koji Suzuki's first novel in a series of books. Hideo Nakata's theatrical version, and as a result the 2002 Hollywood remake, is not a very close adaptation of the source material. The 1995 TV movie Ring: The Complete Series is more accurate in that regard. However, Nakata's rendition is a creepy slow burn that manages to have more organic mood than Gore Verbinski's Ring.

Scream(1996)
A small town is subjected to a serial killing spree after a teenager is slain in her own home by a masked killer with a penchant for vintage scary movies.

The '90s horror film industry was struggling. There was only a handful of horror movies from the early part of that decade that general audiences today remember. Then in 1996, this little movie by Wes Craven changed all of that. It set off a chain reaction and revitalized the dying genre. It is no wonder it has become such a critic darling as well as a fan favorite. Controversial opinion: Scream has suffered a bit from being such a product of its time. The script tries a bit too hard to be to hip as it's littered with Kevin Williamson-isms. Not to mention the protracted killer's reveal that borders on Scooby-Doo quality writing. Minor quibbles aside, it is is a very entertaining movie that is undoubtedly iconic. Without it, who knows what fate would have come for the horror genre otherwise. There are three sequels and an unrelated TV series. Director Wes Craven passed away in 2015.

Babysitter Wanted(2008)
A religious young woman attending college takes a job babysitting at a rural farmhouse. Throughout the night, she receives strange phone calls before an unexpected guest arrives.

While this may sound like a When a Stranger Calls rehash, the movie takes a drastic and unexpected turn at the halfway point. The less said about the twist, the better.

Amusement(2009)
Three women that used to be childhood friends are abducted separately by someone from their past.

This slasher is not good by any means, but the set designs and above average production values make it more memorable than it deserves to be. Amusement is told in an anthology style where all three segments are connected. The second part has one of the heroines coming home to a life-sized clown in her room full of other clown dolls. To her shock, her relative confirms on the phone that they don't own a big clown. This is without a doubt the most suspenseful and the creepiest story in Amusement.

Don't Hang Up(2016)
Two pranksters are targeted by someone that knows everything about them.

It's usually women being harrassed in these types of movies, but for once, the guys are getting tortured. The protagonists are not likable whatsoever so audiences won't feel sympathy. Yet the movie is short and packed with enough action to keep one entertained for about eighty minutes.

The Caller(2011)
Mary moves into a new apartment and starts her life over after divorcing her abusive husband. She receives calls from another woman, Rose, that appears to be troubled emotionally. Mary starts to realize that there is something peculiar about Rose and how she is connected to her.

The Caller was a slept on movie that hardly anyone paid attention to at the time of its release. Which is a shame as it has a different spin on the phone terror theme. One that other horror movies have really yet to expand upon. The movie ends up more like an expanded episode of The Twilight Zone, but there are some scary moments, too. Stephen Moyer and Luis Guzmán co-star with Rachelle Lefevre.

Lobo AdolescenteTyler Posey has opened up about the nude images and videos that plagued him and the cast of his hit MTV series 9 months ago. You may recall TPOSE and his co-stars Cody Christian and Ryan Kelley were the victims of a vicious cyber hacking, which led to their private footage being splashed all over the internet by fka, ljtryout, and @isntdavetwo.

The ray of sunshine addressed the incident for the first time at the Noods Before Dark party on October 6, saying "I don’t care. It puts less stress [on you] if you just brush it off." He continues, "I got a letter in the mail saying I’m a victim of a case of somebody who hacked iCloud. I think had my identity taken. I think I’ve had it stolen."

Ironically, Posey will play an identify thief in the upcoming film Decoy.

Weinsten roundup: London and NYC open investigations on Weinstein, more women come forward

  • The NYPD and the London police have both confirmed that they have opened cases on Weinstein and that they encourage any victims to come forward

  • Keep in mind however that one of the women in the New Yorker piece immediately went to the NYPD who helped get an audio recording of Weinstein harassing her only for the case to be dropped by the D.A.

  • Rose McGowan has been tweeting all week about the Weinstein accusations and Thursday morning her account was suspended

  • Outrage followed though twitter was quick to say that it was because McGowan had tweeted out a person phone number

  • Numerous women came forward to say that they had been stalked, harassed, and had their phone numbers exposed and twitter had done nothing

  • Many celebs including McGowan herself, Chrissy Teigan and Anna Paquin vowing to log off twitter for the whole of October 13

  • Subkoff was trying to make it as an actress in the 90s when Harvey Weinstein pulled her onto his lap before he asked her to leave with him implying that if she had sex with him he would give her parts

  • She believed he blackballed her by calling her difficult to work with when she refused

  • Subkoff gave up on becoming an actress and launched the successful fashion label Imitation of Christ

  • Subkoff directed her first feature film in 2015

  • She said Weinstein also tried to ruin her directorial career by badmouthing her movie to other people in the industry

I want to add my voice of support for the women who have had the courage to speak out against Harvey Weinstein. Like most people in Hollywood, I have worked with him and I'm deeply disappointed in myself for being so oblivious to these devastating experiences of sexual harassment and abuse

  • Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering are behind the Oscar winning documentary The Hunting Ground about the epidemic of college rapes.

  • Their film was distributed by the Weinstein Company

  • They ask that AMPAS (Oscar board) rescind Weinstein's membership

  • Also plead for The Weinstein Company to give the proceeds of their film to Weinstein's victims

In the comments section of a Variety article about Cara Delevingne's encounter with Harvey Weinstein someone who signed themselves as Simone Sheffield (Sheffield is indeed an agent, but it's not confirmed whether or not she actually left the comment) wrote the following:

I use to manage Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. While dealing with Harvey I found it comical how hard he tried to get Aishwarya alone. But he was a pig… looked and acted like a “big bully pig”….He asked me to leave the meeting numerous times and I politely declined. When we were leaving his office he cornered me and said “what do I have to do to get her alone?” I told him to “kiss my black ass”. When Ash and I returned to our hotel, I sent Harvey a steel pig trough filled with DIET COKE as a thank you gift for the meeting. Yes, we did do business and Yes, he eventually threatened me. Told me I’d never work in this business, blah blah blah….what I said to him I can’t print. But you can be sure, I never gave him the opportunity to even breathe on my client.

Fox News. Weinstein. The President. Such abuses have gone on way before these creeps and will sadly continue until women feel empowered and protected enough to speak out.

They say there’s strength in numbers…perhaps. BUT it takes only one brave soul to take the first stand. With social media as your platform, that one brave soul will lead an army, in no time.

Brava Ladies….don’t hold back – THE TRUTH. Protect one another. Support one another. Love one another.

Sean Astin's take:

HARVEY WEINSTEIN - - My view

Beyond treating women in a vile, possibly criminal manner, I believe that Harvey Weinstein is a vicious bully who uses rage and the threat of rage to intimidate many many people. I’ve experienced some of his disrespectful (at best) behavior, with my own eyes and spoken to friends and colleagues who came into contact with the man. It is known that Harvey routinely eviscerates filmmakers, producers, agents and performers. Ranting and raving is the guy’s steady state. I think that he is a mean thug with a vindictive and menacing approach to anyone who gets in his way. Such is his reputation.

Rape and sexual perversion, sexual menacing, sexual intimidation are disgusting and where criminal, deserving of prosecution. The thought of Harvey Weinstein behind bars is deeply satisfying, if not fully enlightened.

Everyone is asking how it’s possible that his behavior was allowed to endure for so long. The suggestion is that somehow, women and girls who were subjected to Harvey’s grotesque behavior are in some way complicit. Low hanging media fruit is to attack politicians for accepting donations and other fundraising help from the legendary industry predator.

It’s a pervasive culture. That’s the cry. Everyone says, it’s time for the conversation to start. That ol’ chestnut. The basic themes and salacious reporting usually turn back in on itself and the so called conversation stalls. We all revere successful businessmen. So called “powerbrokers” are lifted up in many ways, financially, socially, politically, personally. All manner of bad behavior is tolerated as long as the hits keep coming, as long as business thrives.

The women who’ve been abused and the women who have spoken out should be celebrated for their courage. I also think that every single person who was bullied and abused in business by Harvey Weinstein should also speak out.

If the story starts and stops with Harvey’s sexual abuses and doesn’t expand to include the heinous behavior that he visited on women and men, in countless ways, throughout the entertainment industry, the full story will not have been told and the opportunity to change the culture will have been left wanting.

This is my hunch, my instinct and my intuition, informed by working for a few decades in the industry, a few direct experiences with him and many many more stories that were very close to me. Harvey was one of the Executive Producers of Lord of the Rings. A couple of years ago, Harvey behaved in an aggressive, insulting and basically rude manner with me on a call. He wanted something from me. I listened politely. I spoke respectfully. And I told him no.

Sincerely,
Sean
