When two Union anthropologists go missing on a planet similar to 21st century Earth, Ed sends a team led by Kelly to find them, but the mission quickly goes awry when they realize the society's government is completely based on a public voting system to determine punishment in the all-new “Majority Rule” episode of THE ORVILLE airing Thursday, October 26th on FOX.

And, if anyone is interested, here's the panel for the show from last weekend's New York Comic Con:

In a follow up to this post:

Fan favorite actress Gloria Charles from 'Friday the 13th: Part III' passed away last year. The developers for the game wanted to include her character in the game as a way to pay homage to her but had trouble finding her estate to the obtain the rights to use her likeness. It appears they succeeded and they have since announced that Fox will be available in the game as a playable counselor for the new patch.

Aneurin Barnard cast as Boris in "The Goldfinch"

- he's a Welsh actor who's been in lots of period pieces, including Dunkirk (he was "Gibson," who was actually a French soldier trying to peace outta there with the Brits)
- based on Donna Tartt's long-ass 2013 novel
- he plays the shady Ukranian best friend to main character Theodore Decker (ONTD fave Ansel Elgort 🥔) in the Las Vegas scenes and beyond
- it'll probably start filming early next year, directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn)

Wow, he is eerily close to who I pictured (I mentally cast Keram Malicki-Sánchez, who I've seen in literally one movie; wat). Have you read this book, ONTD? Have you ever stolen a priceless painting?

Oliver Stone recently spoke out in defense of Harvey Weinstein, urging people to “wait until things go to trial” because “a man shouldn’t be condemned by the vigilante system. In response to this statement, Carrie Stevens came forward about the time he groped her at a party when she was just 22:

Oliver Stone’s publicist helped him draft a statement as damage control, which was issued today:

“I’ve been traveling for the last couple of days and wasn’t aware of all the women who came out to support the original story in the New York Times. After looking at what has been reported in many publications over the last couple of days, I’m appalled and commend the courage of the women who’ve stepped forward to report sexual abuse or rape.”

The Golden House - Salman Rushdie

Synopsis: When powerful real-estate tycoon Nero Golden immigrates to the States under mysterious circumstances, he and his three adult children assume new identities, taking 'Roman' names, and move into a grand mansion in downtown Manhattan. Arriving shortly after the inauguration of Barack Obama, he and his sons, each extraordinary in his own right, quickly establish themselves at the apex of New York society.

The story of the powerful Golden family is told from the point of view of their Manhattanite neighbour and confidant, René, an aspiring filmmaker who finds in the Goldens the perfect subject. René chronicles the undoing of the house of Golden: the high life of money, of art and fashion, a sibling quarrel, an unexpected metamorphosis, the arrival of a beautiful woman, betrayal and murder, and far away, in their abandoned homeland, some decent intelligence work.

The Origin of Others - Toni Morrison

Synopsis: America's foremost novelist reflects on the themes that preoccupy her work and increasingly dominate national and world politics: race, fear, borders, the mass movement of peoples, the desire for belonging. What is race and why does it matter? What motivates the human tendency to construct Others? Why does the presence of Others make us so afraid?

Drawing on her Norton Lectures, Toni Morrison takes up these and other vital questions bearing on identity in The Origin of Others. In her search for answers, the novelist considers her own memories as well as history, politics, and especially literature.

Heather The Totality - Matthew Weiner

Synopsis: The Breakstone family arrange themselves around their daughter Heather, and the world seems to follow: beautiful, compassionate, entrancing, she is the greatest blessing in their lives of Manhattan luxury. But as Heather grows-and her empathy sharpens to a point, and her radiance attracts more and more dark interest-their perfect existence starts to fracture. Meanwhile a very different life, one raised in poverty and in violence, is beginning its own malign orbit around Heather

Future Home of the Living God - Louise Erdrich

Synopsis: The world as we know it is ending. Evolution has reversed itself, affecting every living creature on earth. Science cannot stop the world from running backwards, as woman after woman gives birth to infants that appear to be primitive species of humans. Thirty-two-year-old Cedar Hawk Songmaker, adopted daughter of a pair of big-hearted, open-minded Minneapolis liberals, is as disturbed and uncertain as the rest of America around her. But for Cedar, this change is profound and deeply personal. She is four months pregnant.

Though she wants to tell the adoptive parents who raised her from infancy, Cedar first feels compelled to find her birth mother, Mary Potts, an Ojibwe living on the reservation, to understand both her and her baby’s origins. As Cedar goes back to her own biological beginnings, society around her begins to disintegrate, fueled by a swelling panic about the end of humanity.

Mean - Myriam Gurba

Synopsis: Myriam Gurba's debut is the bold and hilarious tale of her coming of age as a queer, mixed-race Chicana. Blending radical formal fluidity and caustic humor, Mean turns what might be tragic into piercing, revealing comedy. This is a confident, funny, brassy book that takes the cost of sexual assault, racism, misogyny, and homophobia deadly seriously.

Annie Clark is back with her 5th album MASSEDUCTION. Critics are calling this her best effort yet.

- 'this is the moment that St Vincent enters the fabled realm reserved for the greats'
- Admires the 'queered approaches to gender and sexuality on fluid banger "Sugarboy"'
- Praises its weirdness, utter honesty, and dark humor.

- 5 stars
- Although the subject matter alludes to mortality, suicide and drugs – every track is incredibly uplifting.
- "Saviour" is the sexiest song that Prince never wrote.
- "Smoking Section" is chilling: “sometimes I go the edge of my roof, and I think I’ll jump just to punish you”
- 'spiritual successor of David Bowie and Prince'.

- Her best album yet.
- Praises the ballads "New York", "Happy Birthday, Johnny", "Slow Disco", and "Smoking Section".

- '“Hang On Me” is for anyone who has ever watched the scaffolding of their world collapse in slow-motion'.
- 'Antonoff isn’t all over MASSEDUCTION the same way he’s not all over Lorde’s Melodrama'.
- All that’s fun and sexy about MASSEDUCTION comes to a halt with “Young Lover,” in which a near-dead body is found bleeding out in a bathtub.
- Her most cohesive and accessible album to date.

Rose McGowan confirms Harvey Weinstein raped her

In 2016 McGowan revealed in an interview she had been raped by a movie executive without naming who it was.

Since the New York Times allegations against Weinstein came out last Thursday McGowan has been actively supporting the victims on twitter, and implying she was one herself. She has also called on the entire board of the Weinstein Company to resign.

She has not explicitly named Weinstein before which she hinted was due to a settlement that likely included a NDA (non disclosure agreement).

Today she tweeted at Amazon head Jeff Bezos that she had told the head of studio that "HW" had raped her.

She confirmed to THR that HW did infact refer to Harvey Weinstein.

I know a lot of people may think of this as old news but it's the first time she's said it in public, putting herself at risk.

Martin Scorsese defends "mother!", slams Rotten Tomatoes and Cinemascore

$

Filmmaker Martin Scorsese made the following comment on 'mother!'s Cinemascore:

"Many seemed to take joy in the fact that mother! received an F grade from Cinemascore. This actually became a news story. [The movie] had been "slapped" with the "dreaded" Cinemascore F rating, a terrible distinction that it shares with pictures directed by Robert Altman, Jane Campion, William Friedkin and Steven Soderbergh. After I had a chance to see mother!, I was even more disturbed by this rush to judgment. People seemed to be out for blood, simply because the film couldn't be easily defined or interpreted or reduced to a two-word description. Is it a horror movie, or a dark comedy, or a biblical allegory, or a cautionary fable about moral and environmental devastation? Maybe a little of all of the above, but certainly not just any one of those neat categories."

He also slammed Rotten Tomatoes.

"Rotten Tomatoes [has] nothing to do with real film criticism. They rate a picture the way you'd rate a horse at the racetrack, a restaurant in a Zagat's guide, or a household appliance in Consumer Reports. They have everything to do with the movie business and absolutely nothing to do with either the creation or the intelligent viewing of film. The filmmaker is reduced to a content manufacturer and the viewer to an unadventurous consumer.

"These firms and aggregators have set a tone that is hostile to serious filmmakers-even the actual name Rotten Tomatoes is insulting. And as film criticism written by passionately engaged people with actual knowledge of film history has gradually faded from the scene, it seems like there are more and more voices out there engaged in pure judgmentalism, people who seem to take pleasure in seeing films and filmmakers rejected, dismissed and in some cases ripped to shreds. Not unlike the increasingly desperate and bloodthirsty crowd near the end of Darren Aronofsky's mother!"
