Trevor Noah opened The Daily Show last night with a segment on Antifa. During the segment, Trevor said, "It doesn't matter what your noble goal may be, it doesn't matter what you say you're fighting for. When people see that, all they think is 'Oh shit, it's vegan ISIS.' Because you don't realize — when you think you're punching Nazis, you don't realize you're also punching your cause." Trevor went on to say that Antifa's violence only helps to discredit the movement and what they stand for.

When Twitter user @deannanicoleh's dad boarded his Delta Airlines flight, he had no idea he'd be breathing the same air as one of the most famous people on the planet. Once he realized the whole plane was shook at the man sitting next to him, he messaged his daughter asking who he was. @deannanicoleh filled him in, fan-girling, and asking him to snap a photo with none other than Nicky J.

ICYMI a new all female version of Lord of the Flies to be written and directed by two white dudes was recently announced.

People did not take it well.

Many people (including many ONTDers) pointed to Libba Bray's Beauty Queens as an existing book that followed the same lines of Lord of the Flies and would make more sense to adapt rather than trying to gender flip Lord of the Flies. Bray wrote an op-ed for EW on her thoughts on the announcement.

Some highlights:

• Says when she saw the announcement for the all-female Lord of the Flies she rolled her eyes because she wrote a version and Hollywood was not interested


• Beauty Queens has been trying to be produced for years but most executives are male and don't "get" it and wanted adaptations that devolved into cat-fights and literal hair pulling


• Another one of her novels, A Great and Terrible Beauty, was pitched to Hollywood studios that repeatedly told her she needed to add more men or change her lead (female) character to a male character


• Points to recent successes like Wonder Woman, Girls Trip and Hidden Figures as women-centric movies that did well but will be written off as "flukes"


• Says the problem is too many male execs at the top who are afraid of giving any power at all to women

- They lived together during filming and watched HBO's Vinyl, Moonlight, Brokeback, Weekend as well as 'Summer Heights High for comic relief' during evenings after work
- The film was shot chronologically, director Francis Lee kept them separate for the first weeks of filming
- The graphic sex scenes weren’t difficult, they were very choreographed and were like dances
- Working on the farm was intense and difficult
- The film isn’t a coming out story but a love story between two gay men
- There isn’t homophobia in the film, people in rural areas aren’t inherently homophobic
- It focuses on opening yourself to love and being vulnerable, as well as immigration/xenophobia
- They talk a lot about the characters

• While filming for her upcoming movie I Feel Pretty, comedian and actor Amy Schumer left a $500 tip on an $80 tab for her server, a student at Emmanuel College in Boston.


• The owner of the server's workplace, the Union Oyster House, said of Schumer: "She was very nice. She said to [the server] that she was once a waitress and knew how hard it was." The owner added that his employee was very happy to get the tip as school was about to start.


• Last year, Schumer dropped a $1000 tip for her $77 bill at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York.


• On the subject of tipping, Amy once told Howard Stern on his show: "It’s because it does make me feel great and I feel like I have no other choice. For me, when I was living in a studio in Astoria, if somebody left me $1,000, that would change my month."

• Last week the WB announced a Joker origin film with Martin Scorsese as a producer


• They are planning on using Scorsese to lure DiCaprio into playing the Joker


• No one believes this is actually going to happen because the Scorsese deal isn't even done yet and DiCaprio has backed away from every franchise/superhero deal he was ever offered


• WB is trying to use it as a signal that they are about making "serious" and "artistic" films even though the director of the film Todd Phillips has churned out such gems as War Dogs and The Hangover

Todrick Hall gave a long interview to Yahoo! about Taylor Swift and some of the things he's been seeing online.

Todrick on the idea that Taylor's video was ripping off Beyoncé:
I’m a humongous Beyoncé fan. I’ve worked with Beyoncé. I’ve choreographed for Beyoncé. And I would never intentionally be a part of art that I felt was ripping off my favorite artist of all time. But I felt like these were two completely different lanes

On refusing to hate white people and the cookout:
So it’s just really difficult for me to understand why it is an issue for people, a legitimate issue, that I have white friends, and that Taylor Swift happens to be one of my many white friends.

Apparently here’s a thing called the “cookout,” which is like your invitation to be a part of the black community. Some people have like deemed themselves the Woke Police, and they decide to strip you online of your invitation to attend the “cookout.” It boggles my mind that people are deciding whether or not I’m down enough, black enough, or woke enough to be “invited.” If I have to hate people and judge people based on their race, sexual orientation, or religion, then sorry, but I’d rather order pizza.

On being called a sellout:
Yes, one of the main things that people said was, “He wanted to make his money. Well, good for him, he got paid. And I guess payment is enough for you to sell out your family, your people, your community.” But this had nothing to do with money. I didn’t do this Taylor Swift video for money. I did it because she’s my friend, and she was very excited about it. And she wanted people to be there who she could trust, because it was a very big undertaking. I was proud to be there, but money was not a factor for me. I don’t do things for money.

On Taylor not being politically outspoken like her peers:
Yeah, many people have been tweeting me, “She supports Trump! She probably voted for Trump!” They’re making this huge assumption, when Taylor has never to my knowledge come out and said anything about her being pro-Trump. But people would still rather believe that she is the one who is pushing Trump’s agenda. That was one of the major things that was tweeted at me, and I’m like, “So you are mad that you think she might support Donald Trump? But you’re not mad that Kanye has been very openly pro-Trump?” I don’t understand that.

All I know is that she has been nothing but a great person to me. Her family has welcomed me into their home and treated me like I was a member of the family. They’ve welcomed every single person I’ve ever brought around them. I’ve never felt like there was ever a moment that I couldn’t be myself, and talk about the fact that I’m gay or whatever.
