During a year where MTV made a show of doing things to make themselves seem more progressive by changing the Moon Man to Moon Person, creating a new "Fight Against the System" award category (despite the category's extremely rude snub of Macklemore's anti-Big Pharma anthem), and inviting trans service members, the invitation including a red carped appearance that was extended to Milo Yiannopoulos seems out of place.

When asked, MTV responded with a statement “Last night was about unity, positivity and inclusion — squarely in line with our audience and MTV’s DNA. Anything other than that is only noise.”

In an instagram post where he complains about people not highlighting that suicide mostly vaffects straight white men, the photo seems to indicate he had VIP tickets.
