- The Trumps released a statement saying that they would not be attending the Kennedy Center Honors “to allow the honorees to celebrate without any political distraction," two days after Carmen de Lavallade announced that she would be skipping the reception, and a day after the President's Arts and Humanities commitee resigned en masse.

- Carmen de Lavallade, a dancer, actress, and choreographer, issued a statement, saying that “[i]n light of the socially divisive and morally caustic narrative that our current leadership is choosing to engage in, and in keeping with the principles that I and so many others have fought for, I will be declining the invitation to attend the reception at the White House."

- No word on whether the admin plans to crack down on American cultural icons, sulk at Mar-a-Lago, or both.

Mary J Blige filed an Income and Expense Declaration in a Los Angeles court on August 8, after she was given a temporary order to pay her estranged husband Martin 'Kendu' Isaacs $30,000 a month.

Mary J. Blige files divorce docs revealed :
She earns $326k a month (royalties and income from her production company)
She owes unpaid back taxes of $6.5million for the years 2008 through 2016
She pays $14,000 a month for her LA rental and $2,340 for her two Mercedes-Benz.
Her monthly expenses also include mortgage interest, insurance, and real estate taxes for her three homes across New York and New Jersey.
She claimed the former couple's estate is 'underwater' to the tune of $10 million and Isaacs contributes nothing to expenses and upkeep.

Isaacs, Blige's manager, had a monthly income of $43,977 based on commissions.
His estranged wife's decision to fire him has left him with no source of income.
He wanted Blige to help him maintain his lavish lifestyle. (pay for expensive meals out, a housekeeper, ...)
Isaacs wanted Blige to cover the majority of the $116,250 he spends per month.
He also wants her to cough up $5,000 a month to support his parents and $4,971 a month in support for his two children from a past relationship.
Isaacs got temporary spousal support of $30,000 per month. He had originally sought $130,000.

Wynonna Earp 2X12 (season finale) promo, plus post episode interviews

Promo for 2X12, "I Hope You Dance" (the season finale). Synopsis: 'Wynonna is running out of time and desperate to defeat The Widows before her fate is sealed.'

BTS 2X11

From the video:

Katherine talked about the fun of playing a different version of the character. Even if she doesn't know Waverly and is still married to Shae, she knows Waverly is going to be big in her life. Dominique said it was fun to explore the psychology of why a person is who they are and how siblings inform the way you are as an adult, so she could go back and reinvent who Waverly is and what would have happened if. Despite the fact that she's getting married to Perry, she still has this beautiful connection with Nicole, like star-crossed lovers. Emily: "You want to talk about fate and destiny and free will - this is almost the flip side of it. You really see that Waverly and Nicole are destined to be together. That in whatever alternate universe they are, they are dawn to each other."

Emily Andras sat down with EW and The TV Junkies to discuss 2X11.

Highlights:

* When sorting out everyone's alternate story line, they tried to make it as flexible as possible, emphasize the emotion of it and the relationship they wanted. They weren't too hung up on precisely how exact it was, they just had fun with it. Two things that were important for them was for Doc to be the one to fight to rally everybody and the idea that Nicole and Waverly are somehow destined to be together in any universe, like soul mates.

* While they love the actor who played Champ, they're not huge fans of the character himself, so if Waverly matured, they liked the idea of her with someone who wasn't necessarily a jerk, like Perry. They also liked the idea that she still hasn't found herself- Wynonna showing up allowed her to really examine who she is and what she wants. So if Wynonna never existed, it might have taken her longer than anticipated to figure it all out, but just by being around Nicole was going to wear her down eventually and make her realize the truth.

* Doc is a character who lives in shades of gray more than any other character, Emily says "I honestly think Doc is almost a high-functioning sociopath on some levels"(WTF Emily?). Doc is super selfish, a consummate survivor who has been on both sides of the law, wherever it suits him. When he gets out of the well in S1, all he cares about is revenge, but his proximity to the Earp sisters, particularly Wynonna, re-teaches him love, affection and friendship. This exercise for Doc- if and when he comes back- will touch him the most.

* If they had more time, Emily would have loved to see some of the other Revenants without Wynonna there to put them down. It would have been interesting to see what other kinds of psychopaths were roaming around Purgatory.

* About the finale: It's going to shake out in a blistering finale. There are a lot of hanging threads that they're very excited to close off. We're going to get answers on a lot of things we've been waiting to find out all season. We will get some closure on maybe what Waverly is. The finale is really emotionally taxing, but at the same time it kicks off a new story for S3. It's one of Emily's favorite episodes of the year.

Highlights:

* At the end of the episode Wynonna appears to go into labor in the middle of a field, having just seen that Bobo has teamed up with the Widows, like everything on the show, she never seems to catch a break. The saddest part for Emily was when she woke up and had a moment of 'what if we just stayed here?' just a moment of peace that she so rarely gets. Melanie is incredible and the heart of the show, but Emily feels like the rest really stepped up their game in her absence. They block shoot and shot episodes 11 and 12 together and Melanie was due a week after they wrapped (she actually gave birth four days after they wrapped), so they had to make sure that if something happened (if she went early or was on bed rest) that they had a backup plan. They knew at the end they needed to give her a break.

* There will be some resolution with the pregnancy and the baby, there's a lot they still need to answer this season and there are some incredible surprises to come in the finale that hopefully make sense, but maybe we didn't see coming. Emily thinks there's a lot of potential for S3. Bobo is terrifying and the Widows are terrifying (debatable) so together it's a whole cataclysmic situation, and the one person tat could take them out might be going into labor. About Robert turning into Bobo, Emily says that the horror of the curse and torture and torment of hell can make even the best person go bad, even if your intentions are pure.

* Michael Eklnd (Bobo) is so off the chain and the other actors love working with him because he's so committed and gives them so much to play off of. Michael tries all kinds of crazy stff, but Dominique never breaks in the outtakes and she can match him. Michael has an enormous presence and charisma and they're happy he's back. They wanted to use music a little differently in this episode because it was an alternate universe, so it gives the episode some fun and energy. Emily talks a bit about the song choices this episode- when Bobo leaves the Insane Asylum and the song when Waverly goes to give Nicole her lunch.

* We should be worried about Doc, Dolls and Rosita dying in the alternate universe, some things still survived from that universe, like the Widows and Bobo working together, the third seal being broken and people still having their memories of what happened. We only saw Jeremy, Nicole, Waverly and Wynonna, finding our people is going to be a huge problem and challenge. Doc dying and calling Waverly 'baby girl' was the last scene they shot this year and had them all crying on the sidelines.

* WayHaught are soulmates and destined to be together. Destiny can be a cold, hard mistress and not give you a choice, but it also has plans for these people that are sort of magical, their connection is universal. Because of Mel's pregnancy, they lost a lot of script writing time and didn't have time to sit down with actors and tell them exactly where their characters were going, like Dani and Meghan (Mercedes and Beth) and had to just go with it. If you want to have fun villains, you should let them loose and give them room to play, but at the same time we need to see what they're truly capable of and the danger involved. About the finale: It's really powerful and moving. Every single person on the team, still alive, gets a hero moment, gets to make a choice that really defines who they are and who they want to be. It's really about the team coming together and making sacrifices, but as always it's really about Wynonna deciding, wherever she can, what her own fate is going to be. There are two moments in the finale that had Emily bawling (she says she doesn't cry often at scenes, due to reading the script in advance many times), one of them really defines the Earp sisters for Emily.

Oscar Isaac on Waltzing with Carrie, and the Relationship Between Leia and Poe

-Poe is like a surrogate son for Leia, says Oscar Isaac (she was friends with his parents Shara Bey and Kes Dameron).
-In TLJ their stories will intertwine following the losses Leia has suffered with Han's death and Kylo Ben's relentless Grandfather stanning.
-She sees he has potential to be a "truly great leader of the Resistance and beyond".
-In TLJ, Leia mentors Poe, "encouraging him to look beyond the crosshairs in his cockpit".
-According to Oscar, "Poe’s arc is one of evolving from a heroic soldier to a seasoned leader, to see beyond the single-mindedness of winning the battle to the larger picture of the future of the galaxy [...] I think Leia knows she won’t be around forever and she, with tough love, wants to push Poe to be more than the badass pilot, to temper his heroic impulses with wisdom and clarity."
-Oscar shares his favourite memory of Carrie.
-"One of my favorite things that would happen from time to time on set would be when Carrie would sing old songs [...] Whenever that would happen I would offer her my hand and we would waltz around the set — on a starship, in a Rebel base, on an alien planet, and she would sing and we would dance.
So surreal and beautiful to think about now. For all of her delicious, wicked humor and fiery energy she also had such sweet grace. I miss her dearly."

Oscar Isaac (and Sam Gold) on Hamlet, Grief, and Politics

$

{On Working on the Play Together}
-Oscar and Sam Gold did all the Hamlet and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern scenes together whilst at Julliard, as part of Sam Gold’s directing course – he asked Oscar to do it in his spare time whilst actor training.
-Almost a 15 year process to get it to come together.
-Sam Gold calls Hamlet the "most frustrating play in the world to direct."
-Sam Gold on Oscar’s command of Hamlet: "it’s a kind of magic trick where he knows the play inside and out, and knows what each word means, and how to use each word so well that he can do it as if it’s contemporary conversation, it’s so clear in his mind."
-He thinks it’s important to still use rhetoric and verse, but to make it contemporary and understandable for a modern audience who aren’t as used to it.
-Oscar didn’t watch other Hamlets in preparation, but liked to listen to John Gielgud’s recording like music.
-Oscar calls Hamlet "a very muscular show", at 4 hours it’s physically and vocally very demanding.

{On Hamlet, the Play}
-Of Hamlet the play, Oscar says: "it’s a hall of mirrors, you start to look and it just reflects itself. It has the ambiguity of religious text, where a line is crafted in such a way that it feels like it has infinite meaning."
-Oscar on whether Hamlet is driven mad by the death of his father: "not necessarily. I think madness, for me understanding it through the lens of grief became so much more relatable, because grief feels like a form of madness, it feels like it can easily... it’s such a shock, and such a trauma to lose someone you love so much, that on the other side of that it’s a whole new existence, and I think many people that have had to deal with that can feel how easily their mind can get away from them and change, and you see the world differently, and a lot of pretence falls away."

{On Hamlet & Current Politics}
-Oscar talks making it relatable, and reflecting it to the audience on how man is in this moment at this time, and stripping away artifice.
-Asked about whether the audience makes a connection with the political time we live in: "man is a political animal right [...] just yesterday, in the middle of ‘to be or not to be’, when I start to say ‘who would bear the whips and scorns of time, the oppressor’s wrong, the law’s delay, the insolence of office’, and I looked at the audience and they all erupted clapping, because the thoughts of what was happening right now, particularly with what was happening in Charlottesville and the President’s terrible response to that, you know people were upset and angry, and we were all in this room together and the way we staged it is one that we’re not pretending that we’re anywhere else, we’re just talking here – and there was an immediate feedback."

{On Oscar's Mum, Grief, and His Personal Stakes}
-Much content as discussed in Oscar's last interview, from this previous ONTD post.
-Oscar's mum's favourite thing was to see Oscar do Shakespeare, and at home and then the hospital he would read Hamlet to her, and almost did the entire play for her; the meditative content on grief, death and letting go was very comforting for both Oscar and his mum during her declining health.
-Oscar’s mum passed in February from pancreatic cancer – she didn’t want a funeral or anything like that, so as a family they had their own "little thing to say goodbye".
-When Oscar’s sister came to see the play, she felt like this was the version of a funeral their mum would have wanted, to have the space to grieve and tell the story about losing someone you love so much.
-Oscar talks so many things happening in a condensed period of time for him, and how that impacted his playing Hamlet: "the passing of my mother, getting married, the birth of my son, that it’s almost like my personal stakes in doing Hamlet and the play lowered – it didn’t mean everything to me, it felt more like release than something that needed to be proved, or something I needed to prove."

Now it appears that with the announcement of Stephen King's It on September 8, also headed for IMAX, that the Inhumans premiere will be shortened to one week; there are no tickets available for preorder for the planned second week.

Marvel didn't give a definite response but instead said "Per IMAX, exhibitors determine showtimes on a week-to-week basis and will continue to do so with Marvel’s Inhumans".

Will Hollywood Allow Streaming of Films Weeks After Theatre Release?

$

0

Big movie studios including Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures are in talks with Apple and Comcast to allow studios to rent out movies online as soon as two weeks after they are released to theaters for about $30 to $50 dollars.

Movie chains have been against the move but are starting to warm up to the idea if they are able to get a 10 year revenue split.

Walt Disney co. is not interested and would like to be excluded from this narrative as it seeks to launch its own streaming service and focus on big movie events that need to be seen in theaters.

Shares of major theatre chains including AMC, Regal and Cinemark dropped on Friday following the news.
