Jimmy Fallon opened last night's show with a tearful, emotional speech about the white supremacist/Nazi rally in Charlottesville which left one dead. In the midst of applause for his candor within his obvious attempt at being Kimmel/Conan/Colbert/Meyers/etc, his critics made it clear they weren't buying it.

7 Vegetarian/Vegan Musicians

1. Shania Twain

• The 51-year-old singer has been a vegetarian for over 20 years.

• In an interview with The Las Vegas Review Journal back in 2014, Twain said the following:

“It’s a personal thing. I would never preach vegetarianism.”

“I put on a feast at Christmastime. My gravy is really a tasty, savory gravy. I use a morel mushroom rue and a nutritional yeast base for the gravy, and it is so delicious."

“It tastes like a turkey gravy, basically, but it has no animal, and it’s really yummy. Everybody loves my brown gravy at Christmas.”

“I think I’m going to do a cookbook to help people. I’ve eaten a lot of other people’s vegetarian food, and it takes a lot of hours in the kitchen getting it right. I’ve spent a lot of time experimenting, getting it to where it would satisfy a meat eater.”

•Where's the cookbook, Shania!?

2. RZA From Wu-Tang Clan

• The 48-year-old rapper has been an outspoken vegan for a long time but isn't the only member of Wu-Tang Clan to take part in a meat free lifestyle - GZA is a long time vegetarian, and Masta Killa is also vegan, and apparently none of the Wu-Tang Clan members eat pork.

• When RZA appeared on the internet interview show Hot Ones last year with Interpol's Paul Banks, the show provided him with vegan wings and almond milk. He was the first vegan on the show.

• He has talked about the importance of rapper KRS-One's song "Beef" which came out in 1990 and criticizes the meat industry.

• He also runs a vegan menswear label called 36 Chambers that has cruelty-free vegan leather products along with other fashion items.

3. Johnny Marr from The Smiths

• Smiths singer, Morrissey, is a noted vegan but OP thinks he's trash and that Johnny Marr is an underrated, under-appreciated, musical genius that you should all be stanning.

• The 53-year-old has spoken at length in interviews about his vegetarianism (which began when The Smiths made their second album, Meat Is Murder, in 1985 with Johnny saying he didn't want to be a hypocrite while playing the title track from the album) and about since turning to veganism:

"I became Vegan in 2005 when I moved to Portland Oregon. I’d been getting more and more health conscious and at that time I wanted to take things as far as I could. I like the idea of progress, and being progressive. Portland has a very liberal and modern attitude and a few of my friends there were Vegan. I’m glad I got into it. It’s a lot easier being vegan in the US than in Europe, there’s more cultural variety there, and therefore choice.

The interesting thing for me was that giving up dairy meant giving up deserts etc and therefore sugar, and then you’re into something else. Giving up things doesn’t mean sacrifice or misery to me, I see it as the opposite, it’s interesting. I “took on” being Vegetarian, I didn’t “give up” something, If you see what I mean. I like doing that. All of these things have made me more focused and energised.

My family are all vegetarian. Angie was vegetarian when we met, I was fifteen and she was fourteen. She was clued up. I probably would’ve become vegetarian even without the song I suppose."

4. Erykah Badu

• 46-year-old Badu was a vegetarian for decades before deciding to go fully vegan.

• Badu has said the following about her lifestyle choice:

"I’ve been a vegetarian since my senior year of high school, that was 1989, and I’ve eaten like a vegan since 1997..."

"I wouldn’t call myself a vegan because I don’t subscribe to any type of organizations. It’s just what’s best for my body. If I was a Lamborghini I would want to put the best gas in it."

5. Carrie Underwood

• The 34-year-old country star subscribes to a mostly vegan diet but admits that cheese is sometimes her guilty pleasure.

• Underwood talked to Self.com in January of this year and said the following about her dietary habits:

“I want to be vegan so badly, all the way, 1,000 percent. But traveling and stuff, it just kind of gets hard. Sometimes I may have to do some egg whites or something for breakfast. ”

6. Weird Al Yankovic

• Iconic parody musician, Weird Al, has been a vegetarian since the 1990s and tries to eat vegan when he can. He told PETA that his favourite food is mangosteen (because of course Weird Al's favourite food is mangosteen).

7. Sir Paul McCartney (from some band, idk).

• "I enjoy being vegetarian. It's a thrill and I can walk past a field of animals with a clear conscience."

• 75-year-old McCartney is one of the music world's best known vegetarians and he's been one since the 1970s (suck it, hipsters).

• McCartney uses his status to advocate for animal rights and to publicly talk about the benefits of leading a vegetarian lifestyle. He even claims that he wrote to the Dalai Lama to question why he was a meat eater.

• Beatles band mate, Ringo Starr, is also a vegetarian but is a little more quiet about it from an activism perspective than Paul.
