Kendrick Lamar Covers Rolling Stone

On Being Quiet About Donald Trump:
"I mean, it's like beating a dead horse. We already know what it is. Are we gonna keep talking about it or are we gonna take action?" Lamar boldly asks. "You just get to a point where you're tired of talking about it. It weighs you down and it drains your energy when you're speaking about something or someone that's completely ridiculous. So, on and off the album, I took it upon myself to take action in my own community. On the record, I made an action to not speak about what's going on in the world or the places they put us in. Speak on self; reflection of self first. That's where the initial change will start from."
On Ghostwriting:
"I called myself the best rapper. I cannot call myself the best rapper if I have a ghostwriter. If you're saying you're a different type of artist and you don't really care about the art form of being the best rapper, then so be it. Make great music. But the title, it won't be there."
On If He Knew Bad Blood Was About Katy Perry:
"No, I wasn't aware of that, bro. That's a great question. No! On the record, no. Which makes it even more funny now, for sure. That's far beyond my concern. I have to stay away from that, for sure. That's some real beef [laughs]."
On What He Learned From Working With Beyoncé:
"How particular to be about your music. She's a perfectionist. Think about the BET performance. She was very particular – the lighting, the camera blocking, the transition from the music to the dancing. It was confirmation of something I already knew."
On The Future:
"I'm mothafuckin' optimistic for sure. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't! Come on, man, this shit don't happen to everybody. Almost all of my best friends are in prison. Forty years plus. Every show, they wanna see pictures. They tell me, "You gotta be optimistic as fuck to be where you at. We didn't have that. The glass was always halfway empty." And it's not just being optimistic. It's really about being responsible. You can talk about dreams all day and "what I want," but you gotta put an action behind it."

Robert Pattinson on fame and fecal-matter transplants in GQ

Taffy Akner profiled Robert Pattinson for GQ's September cover story.
They were trying to decide what activity to do together for the profile. Rob wanted to do ayahuasca with Taffy, but they decided there was too much vomiting involved for an interview.

Another suggestion from Rob:
“Let’s get fecal-matter transplants.""You can have an athlete’s shit put inside you and then you’re an athlete afterwards.”

He didn't try to do a lot of big blockbusters after Twilight:
“I think you have to have a specific type of confidence to be in those movies.”

During the height of his twilight fame he used to ride in the trunks of cars constantly.
“People were like, ‘It’s fine, who cares?’ ” he says now. “ ‘They’re just photos or whatever.’ They’ll say, ‘Just live your life.’ But that’s not life for me, if someone’s observing it.”

FKA Twigs named their dog Solo.

He doesn't like the promotional part of the movie making process and is hyperaware of talking about his personal life or saying things he hasn't said before.
“I want to be misunderstood. People are always changing, and the more you put something down in print, people form opinions and they’re constantly creating who they think you are. If you do something that contradicts that, or if you do something which goes out of that box, then you can look like a liar or something like that.”

He really loves Kevin Costner's "Waterworld"

Jennifer Lawrence Vogue Interview

On Dating Darren Aronofsky:
"We had energy. I had energy for him. I don’t know how he felt about me. I’ve been in relationships before where I am just confused. And I’m never confused with him. I normally don’t like Harvard people, because they can’t go two minutes without mentioning that they went to Harvard. He’s not like that."
On mother!:
"I hate talking about acting because it’s so hard to talk about it without sounding like a douche. I had to go to a darker place than I’ve ever been in my life. I didn’t know if I’d be able to come out OK.” One moment during filming got so intense, Lawrence says, that she hyperventilated and dislocated a rib. “I ended up getting on oxygen. I have oxygen tubes in my nostrils, and Darren’s like, ‘It was out of focus; we’ve got to do it again.’ And I was just like, ‘Go fuck yourself.’ ”
On Politics:
"There needs to be a bridge. We can’t continue this divide and anger. There are issues affecting us as human beings, not as liberals and not as Republicans. We have to protect the foundation of this country, and acceptance. If you’re preaching acceptance, accept immigrants, accept Muslims, accept everybody.”
On Denying Selfies:
"I’m happy to meet people, give autographs, shake hands, and say ‘Thank you,’ ” she says. “I wouldn’t have a job if people weren’t going to see my movies. It’s just . . . if I’m on an airplane and I have no makeup on, I don’t want to take a selfie that’s going to end up on E!”
On Fear After Getting Hacked:
"It’s scary when you feel the whole world judges you. I think people saw [the hacking] for what it was, which was a sex crime, but that feeling, I haven’t been able to get rid of it. Having your privacy violated constantly isn’t a problem if you’re perfect. But if you’re human, it’s terrifying. When my publicist calls me, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, what is it?’ Even when it’s nothing. I’m always waiting to get blindsided again.”

Todd Haynes (Director 'Velvet Goldmine,' 'Carol') is in the planning stages of a documentary on rock group, The Velvet Underground

Haynes spoke to Variety about his previous and upcoming projects, one of which includes a documentary on The Velvet Underground.

The band was discovered by filmmaker artist, Barbara Rubin, who introduced the band to Andy Warhol and his Silver Factory in 1965. The group started a multi-media concert experience called The Exploding Plastic Inevitable, which incorporated light shows, film, art and dance. Haynes says the band, “came out of a truly experimental cross-section of film, contemporary art, and a rejection of mainstream consumer culture at a very rich and fertile time of the 1960s in New York City."

Although there is little documentation on the band, Haynes expresses his excitement in researching and obtaining archives for this project. He says the documentary "needs to be an intensely visual experience."

The untitled documentary will feature interviews by surviving members as well as other members of the 1960's New York art scene. Original band members of The Velvet Underground include Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Moe Tucker - Later, Nico was introduced and appears on their debut 1967 album, "The Velvet Underground & Nico." Nico passed away in 1988, Morrison in 1995, and Reed in 2013.

"Nico 1988" is a film based on the last years of Nico's life, which ended in 1988.

Nico was Warhol Superstar and a member of The Velvet Underground & Nico band after she was introduced by Warhol to sing-along with Velvet's frontman, Lou Reed. She would later set off on a solo career and produced numerous albums, including The Marble Index and Desertshore. She was dubbed "Godmother of Goth" and "Priestess of Darkness" due to her cult influence on 1970's and 1980's music.

Susanna Nicchiarelli directs Nico 1988 with Trine Dyrholm playing the title role. The film follows Nico and her band on her last tour across Europe. It will premiere on August 30 as part of  Venice Film Festival's Horizons.

In 2006, director George Hickenlooper hired Weezer to record a version of The Velvet Underground's song, "Heroin," for his Edie Sedgwick biopic, "Factory Girl." After Lou Reed bashed the script, Hickenlooper pulled the song from the film.

Weezer's version can be heard in "Factory Girl - Unseen Director's Cut." After being dissatisfied with the Theatrical release and the DVD release of the film, Hickenlooper uploaded this version onto Youtube. Hickenlooper was also planning a TV series on Sedgwick's life before he passed away in 2010.

Ultimately, the film was taken down from Youtube by the Weinstein Company, but several of the scenes have been found online. You can hear 40 seconds of Weezer's take in the beginning of this clip.

Last night Rita received the first ever Variety + H&M Conscious award for her philanthropic work.

Rita's been active with UNICEF, amfAR and other organizations. In 2015 Rita was named honorary ambassador of Kosovo for her work helping the country rebuild from the war.
“I’m a prime example of somebody that you shouldn’t throw out or not let into your country. I’m one of those cases that you just never know who you’re declining from your country… it’s about giving people something to believe in.”
She accepted her award on behalf of her parents.

One of the recent causes that touched her heart was the Grenfall Tower fire as she grew up in the area and knew some people who were affected personally.
“Growing up in government homes, it’s like your only bit of sanctuary,” she says. “It’s big, it’s like your only place where you feel safe, so [the disaster] was really off-putting for me.”
The Grenfall Tower fire relief fund will receive a $10,000 donation from Variety and H&M.

Shannon Purser of 'Stranger Things' says "everybody should be in therapy"

  • Stranger Things, Riverdale, and Wish Upon co-star Shannon Purser, who recently received an Emmy nomination for her role as Barb, was diagnosed with OCD a few years ago. She says: "I had a really, really bad case of it. Everybody hears OCD and they think, ‘Okay, you like to clean or be organized.’ That’s really not what it is, especially not for everybody. In my case, it was me being super self-conscious, to the point where it was debilitating. I didn’t feel comfortable talking to people. It’s incredible, but I will sing the praises of therapy. I think everybody should be in therapy. It helps so much to have somebody educated you can talk to.”

  • Purser admits that she still struggles: "It’s a process, and I still have days where I’m very hyper-aware. But I think the biggest thing has been body positivity has been really important to me."

  • On her body: "I don’t have a typical body type, and that used to be something that made me feel very alone and weird. I’ve gotten so many messages from people saying like, ‘It’s so refreshing to see somebody who looks like me on TV,’ and that really means the world to me.”

Some highlights from the interview:

On what portraying Billie Jean King taught her:"I would say playing Billie Jean was a bit of a game changer. I am very nervous to communicate my opinions a lot of the time, especially publicly…She [Billie] is so direct and confident in the way that she communicates what she believes is right. To be able to step into that was a pretty powerful experience. It's something that I still don't feel entirely comfortable with, but it was also one of the great parts about playing her."

Follow up to this and this post

Updates:
- Despite claims that it was Mueller's boss that groped Taylor instead (??), photo evidence shows that this was not the case, with the photo of Eddie Haskell and Taylor being a normal M&G photo.
- One of the assistants said Swift told them shortly after the photo with Mueller was taken: "Dude, that guy just grabbed my ass."
- Others testified in prior depositions that they had never seen Swift react to a photo-shoot in that way.
- Backtracking on yesterday's comments that he "touched her ribs", Mueller now says that he had "no idea" where his hand was
- Mueller acknowledged that he told approximately 37 people in the radio industry about the allegations between him and Swift and his firing from KYGO
-Mueller admits he has never filled out an application for a job outside of the radio industry, though he says he had sought jobs. Yesterday he stated that he had applied for a dozen jobs.
- He admits he’s only sought on-air personality jobs in top 20 markets
- It is alleged that Mueller was drunk when he got into the room to take the photo.
