The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's 2011 release catapulted Rooney Mara into the spotlight and gave the actress a completely new look. For the role, Mara traded soft brunette curls and sweet dresses for Lisbeth Salander's jet-black crop and penchant for leather. Long after filming ended, traces of Lisbeth remained in the actress's red-carpet and street-style looks, as she often chose darker, sleek numbers from Balenciaga and Givenchy.

Chloë Sevigny on Gwyneth Paltrow's Met Gala Complaints: "Maybe Her Sleeves Were Too Tight"

As the new face of Absolut Elyx Vodka as well as a renowned actress, former model and style icon in her own right, Chloë Sevigny is no stranger to the spotlight.
In fact, the trendsetter is also a pro at fielding press interviews, so much so that she recently went on the record last night with New York mag to discuss Gwyneth Paltrow's recent complaints about last week's Met Gala.
"Maybe her sleeves were too tight. If you're in a dress where you can't breathe, then you're not comfortable," she said, explaining that her own Proenza Schouler design was specifically made so she could move with ease at the fashion affair. "You have to wear comfortable shoes and an outfit you can be okay in."
And while Gwyneth made it pretty clear to USA Today that she's never going to the Met Gala again, Sevigny offered some supportive insight as to why the grand gala might not be well-received for all attendees.
"I think it depends on what table you're at, and who you're with, and obviously your attitude. But it's a lot of hoopla over not a lot. Everybody thinks it's so much pressure, and you do the carpet and it's such a big deal, and it's just a museum fund-raiser, you know?"
So true. Way to weigh in with a refreshing dose of down-to-earth sensibility, Chloë!

There are also reports that Madonna completely ignored ex bff Gwyneth and instead talked to Beyonce for most of the night and made sure she showed Gwyneth she was having fun with her A list friends and didn't need her.

Superman Gets Pensive In New 'Man Of Steel' Image

After a few posters showing off Superman taking flight, and another depicting Supes charging ahead, the latest "Man of Steel" image is way chill by comparison. The new shot shows Henry Cavill hovering calmly over Metropolis, glancing over his shoulder.

While the image has yet to be made into a poster, it will be used on the advance passes being sold at Walmarts starting on May 18th at 8 a.m. The "Man of Steel" Facebook page has all the details about obtaining the tickets, as well as a sneak peek at the tickets themselves (the negative space in the image is put to use, graphic designers!).

MAN OF STEEL Running Time Confirmed

WB has sent a few press outlets an email confirming a few details about Man of Steel, chief among them is the film's running time which is confirmed at 143 minutes or 2 hrs 23 minutes.

Man Of Steel: Gender-swapped Jimmy Olsen confirmed?

Bye bye Jimmy. Hello Jenny.

According to reports, Jimmy Olsen, the budding young reporter/photographer of Clark Kent’s local rag The Daily Planet, has undergone a gender-swap for upcoming reboot ‘Man Of Steel’.

The realignment of the classic character was seemingly confirmed after a film still, listing actress Rebecca Buller as “Jenny Olsen”, was noticed in the pages of an official ‘Man Of Steel’ tie-in book.

Back in January, Comicbookmovie.com reported that Buller was credited as the mysterious “Jenny Olsen” on IMDB’s ‘Man Of Steel’ cast list. The actress was also spied by eagle-eyed fans in a trailer - running alongside Lawrence Fishburne, who plays The Daily Planet’s editor Perry White.

The rumour sparked an online backlash, with fans of the ‘Superman’ series angry at the potential tampering with the long-established character.

Jimmy, who was played in 2006’s ‘Superman Returns’ by Sam Huntingdon, has appeared as a steady supporting figure in the DC comic book series as far back as 1938.

A source previously told Comicbookmovie.com that Jenny (if she existed) would actually be Jimmy’s sister, and not a gender- swapped version of the character. Still, there’s no sign of Jimmy himself on any cast list.

Warner Brothers is yet to comment if the realignment rumour is true.

I found a GREAT article about this gender-swapping, pls read, it's cool:

Jimmy Olsen, a girl? Why not? by Paul Cornish

Several comics news websites are reporting the rumour that the male character, Jimmy Olsen will be changed to a female character in the upcoming Superman movie by director Zack Snyder, Man of Steel. Jimmy has been one of Superman’s main supporting characters since 1941, and has been portrayed on screen by such actors as Jack Larson, Marc McClure, Justin Whalin, and Sam Huntingdon. But rumour has it that in Man of Steel, Rebecca Buller will be playing a character called Jenny Olsen. Personally, if this is true I’m all for it. In fact, I think Jimmy should become Jenny in the comics too.

Originally in the Superman comics, Jimmy Olsen served a role similar to that of Batman’s kid sidekick, Robin. Here was a character the young readers of the comic could identify with. With Jimmy, DC Comics were saying to their young fans, “Look, here’s a kid just like you, and he’s Superman’s best pal! If Superman were real, that could be you!” Jimmy even had his own comic, Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen, in which he would get himself into all manner of bizarre scrapes but inevitably use his supersonic signal watch to call his best friend, Superman, to help him out.

Times changed however, and so did Superman’s audience. Superman’s fans, and fans of comics in general, grew older, and as far back as the Seventies DC Comics’ creators began to search for a new take on Jimmy. For example, in the early 70s, comics legend Jack Kirby took over Jimmy’s comic and took him further away from his traditional depiction as Superman’s Number One fan. Jimmy was now embroiled in adventures involving the mysterious D.N.A Project and its genetically mutated creations, and Superman was as much along for the ride as Jimmy was.

Since the mid ’80s Jimmy has also been affected by the changing role of Lois Lane. Traditionally, Jimmy was “Superman’s Pal”, while Lois was “Superman’s Girlfriend”. By the ’80s creators and fans had finally realised that “girlfriend” and “pal” are not mutually exclusive. It is not impossible for someone’s romantic partner to be their best friend too, in fact, it’s probably essential! And so, as Superman and Lois became engaged and eventually married, Lois quite rightly became Superman’s trusted confidant, and Jimmy’s role became even less clearly defined. Even in DC’s recently rebooted Universe, where Superman has never been married to Lois, Lois is still referred to as Clark Kent’s best friend, leaving Jimmy’s role still as unclear as it has been for years.

There have been some great stories involving Jimmy over the past few decades but I would argue that they have mostly been reinterpretations of very old depictions of Jimmy. Throughout the late 80s and 90s Jimmy was forever encountering rebooted versions of Kirby’s 70s creations. Recent depictions of Jimmy by such great writers as Grant Morrison and Nick Spencer have been fun but drew heavily on the style and ideas of those early Jimmy stories from the 50s and 60s. I would argue that Jimmy Olsen has not been a truly interesting character for the past two decades, and I’d be hard pressed to think of a Superman story from that period that would have truly suffered from Jimmy’s exclusion. Sam Huntingdon’s portrayal of Jimmy in the Bryan Singer’s 2006 film, Superman Returns sums up the problem with the character quite neatly. In that film he is depicted as a bow-tie wearing, “gee-whiz”, throwback. It was fun, but not really essential to the film, or recognisable as any sort of person who’s ever existed in real life. That pretty much sums up Jimmy Olsen these days.

So, why not make him a girl?

Let’s list Jimmy’s defining characteristics. He’s a photographer, or sometimes a reporter. He’s young, usually late teens or early twenties. He’s Superman’s pal and he idolises Clark Kent and Lois Lane. He’s brave. Would any of these characteristics be lost or changed if Jimmy became Jenny? No, and changing Jimmy to Jenny could potentially open up the character to some story avenues that had not been possible before. We’d lose nothing, and potentially gain more.

If DC Comics were to ever perform such a switch I would imagine it would be done by some cosmic, time altering story telling device, or perhaps a multi-part, much hyped, DEATH OF JIMMY OLSEN storyline, in which Jimmy would die and be replaced by a cousin or a sister. But here’s a thought. Why not have a storyline in the comic where Jimmy decides that from now on he wants to live as Jenny? Remember, the whole DC Universe has recently been rebooted. We’ve seen very little of this version of Jimmy so far that would contradict a storyline where Jimmy reveals that his gender identity is different from his sex, and that he would now like to live as Jenny Olsen.

We live in a society that has a long way to go in its understanding and acceptance of transgender people. If handled properly, a prominent trans character in something as iconic as the Superman comics could go some way towards helping and educating us all. At the very least it opens up the possibility of a story that we’ve never seen told before in a mainstream superhero comic and it contradicts none of the defining characteristics I listed above. In fact, one of the defining characteristics I listed was ‘brave’. Choosing to live as you feel you truly are even if it means facing a world that may not understand or approve of your decision? Sounds pretty brave to me.

What do you think?

Farrah Abraham admits anal sex at 15

Farrah Abraham will do anything to stay in the spotlight, even if that means giving an exclusive interview to Nik Richie from The Dirty entertainment show. On May 14, Rumorfix posted the video version of the podcast interview between Abraham and Richie. It seems Farrah is sharing much more of her personal life, maybe more than “Teen Mom” fans care to know.

Nik Richie is right up there with Perez Hilton in terms of bloggers dishing the celebrity dirt. Richie goes one step further with plenty of sexual topics. He didn’t hold back with Farrah. Nik asks Abraham if there was some special reason she was so interested in anal sex, her reply, “Who the h@ll is dictating how the h@ll I have sex?”

After that, Abraham was an open book, admitting she had anal sex way before she had regular sex. Nik asked Farrah if it was Sophia’s father, Derek Underwood, who gave Farrah anal sex and she said it was from someone else before Derek. She had real sex with Derek, but “real sex wasn’t her favorite thing and she found it less enjoyable than anal.” She even had to assure Richie that anal sex is not “awkward.”

Rita Ora’s £500k deal to model Madonna's & Lola's clothes

RITA ORA should get used to wearing cone bras and leotards.
She’s signed a £500,000 deal to be the face of MADONNA’s clothing brand, Material Girl.
The singer has already shot campaign photos for the label, which is run by Madge and her daughter LOURDES.
And the endorsement from the veteran star could help Rita crack the US, where she still needs a big break. A source said: “Lourdes has been a fan of Rita for a while and has been to many of her gigs. She persuaded her mum to see her.
“They met at the Met Ball in New York last week and Madonna admired Rita’s attitude so signed the idea off.
“Rita jumped at the chance because she’s such a fan of the Queen Of Pop.
“She also hopes it will help her crack the States in the same way she has the UK.” Rita already has an influential mentor in JAY-Z. He signed her to his label Roc Nation when she was just a teenager.
Rita’s in good company posing in Madonna and Lourdes’s clobber.
KELLY OSBOURNE, GEORGIA MAY JAGGER and American singer, actress and model TAYLOR MOMSEN have all modelled for Material Girl.
The brand, sold in Macy’s stores in the US, is 1980s inspired and is aimed at teenagers.
It means a lot of the creative direction comes from young Lourdes.
That will please Rita when the pics are plastered all over billboards.

Entrepreneurs and music industry icons Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre (Andre Young), already known as forward-thinking visionaries in music and business, are giving $70 million to USC to create a unique undergraduate experience.

The duo’s gift will establish the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, an environment for those rare undergraduate students whose interests span fields such as marketing, business entrepreneurship, computer science and engineering, audio and visual design, and the arts. The program will prepare them to become a new generation of inspired innovators.

The goal of the academy is to shape the future by nurturing the talents, passions, leadership and risk-taking of uniquely qualified students who challenge conventional views of art and industry. The academy will attract students who are motivated to explore and create new art forms, technologies and business models — and who will benefit from a stimulating environment that fosters exploration and discovery beyond traditional educational and disciplinary boundaries.

“The vision and generosity of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young will profoundly influence the way all of us perceive and experience artistic media,” said USC President C. L. Max Nikias. “USC provides an extraordinarily rich academic, research and artistic environment. We are committed to encouraging our students to use their intellectual and creative resources to effect change in all segments of society. Our goal is to ensure that the academy is the most collaborative educational program in the world.”

Iovine and Dre’s gift is part of The Campaign for the University of Southern California, a multiyear effort to secure $6 billion or more in private philanthropy to advance USC’s academic priorities and expand its positive impact on the community and world.

To meet student interests and to meld inspiration with education, the academy’s specially designed courses will provide students with a solid background in the integration of technology with all aspects of creativity along with a thorough understanding of existing and potential business, marketing and distribution strategies.
Drawing on the expertise of top faculty from the USC Marshall School of Business, the USC Roski School of Fine Arts, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC Thornton School of Music, the academy will also host industry icons and innovators as visiting faculty and guest speakers. It will offer a highly select group of students an integrated, four year course of study that will provide in-depth learning in engineering and computer science, fine arts and graphic design, business, and leadership models. Team-taught interdisciplinary courses will be developed and adapted specifically for the program.

The Iovine and Young Academy will focus on four core curriculum areas: arts and entrepreneurship; technology, design and marketability; concept and business platforms; and creating a prototype.

The academic program will include one-on-one faculty mentoring, opportunities to interact with luminaries from the arts and entertainment industry serving as guest speakers and lecturers, and a broad array of internship opportunities for students.

During their fourth and final year, academy students will take up residence in an experiential setting called the “Garage.” Grouped into self-directed teams, which may include nonacademy students from across the university, these students will determine a project that can be developed into a prototype over the course of the year.

Appropriate faculty members, other artists and business leaders will serve as mentors to each group, and venture capitalists and other real-world experts will be introduced to give students advice and direction. All of these elements will combine into one unique educational experience, where working together, students will challenge one another to take even greater risks in innovation.

“Flexibility is a hallmark of USC, and the academy’s curriculum is incredibly adaptive,” said USC Roski Dean Erica Muhl, who will serve as the academy’s inaugural director. “The curriculum was created to take full advantage of a newly designed, revolutionary educational space that will offer students very powerful tools. Academy students will have the freedom to move easily from classroom to lab, from studio to workshop, individually or in groups, and blow past any academic or structural barriers to spontaneous creativity.

“The academy’s core education will create a common, multilingual literacy and fluency across essential disciplines,” she continued. “This ‘big picture’ knowledge and skill will equip graduates with a leadership perspective that is unparalleled in an undergraduate degree, and that will be applicable to virtually any industry.”

USC’s strategic location in Los Angeles — widely viewed as the creative and media capital of the world — provides an opportunity for students to take advantage of a living laboratory where music, film and visual arts are deeply intertwined. In addition, the university’s proximity to the city’s burgeoning “Silicon Beach” as well as Northern California’s Silicon Valley provides access to an array of technological advances from which students can draw inspiration.
The academy will enroll its first class of 25 students in fall 2014. Applicants will be accepted based on a rigorous review process encompassing demonstrated academic excellence as well as proven ability for original thought. Students who complete a course of study in the academy will graduate with a degree that recognizes each individual’s ability to engage and succeed in an educational experience that is constantly asking the question, “Why not?”

Iovine, chairman of Universal Music Group’s Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records, is one of the music industry’s most accomplished and respected leaders. Iovine began his four-decade career as a recording engineer, working with the likes of John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen. As record producer, he was instrumental in the career breakthroughs of artists such as Patti Smith, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, U2, Stevie Nicks, Dire Straits and The Pretenders.

Iovine co-founded Interscope Records in 1990, widely regarded as the home of music’s greatest artists, including Dr. Dre, Nine Inch Nails, Mary J. Blige, No Doubt and Lady Gaga, among others.

Born in Compton, Calif., hip-hop pioneer/producer Dre began his career as a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Crew. In 1986, he co-founded N.W.A. and won critical and commercial acclaim with the group’s 1988 landmark rap album Straight Outta Compton. In 1992, Dre released his solo debut, the G-funk masterpiece The Chronic, which Rolling Stone hailed as one of the greatest albums ever made.

With the launch of his own record company, Aftermath Entertainment, in 1996, Dre went on to discover and nurture such next-generation hip-hop superstars as 50 Cent, The Game, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem.

In 2006, Iovine and Dre co-founded Beats Electronics, a high-performance headphone and sound transmission company intent on recapturing the fidelity of the studio. With its expansion into smartphones and car audio systems, Beats by Dr. Dre has captured 40-percent market share of the entire billion-dollar headphones industry.

‘Hannibal’ Subject Of Outside Interest While Awaiting Renewal Decision At NBC

$

0

Last month, NBC’s “Hannibal” attracted 4.6 million viewers in its debut before slipping to about 2.6 million viewers for the two most recent episodes. And while NBC was said to be considering an early renewal at one point, “Hannibal” now has the odd distinction of being the only scripted drama on a broadcast network that isn’t renewed or canceled.

But that doesn’t mean that Hannibal Lecter’s murderous ways are ending soon. Deadline is reporting that Amazon and at least one unnamed cable network are interesting in picking up “Hannibal” if NBC decides not to renew it.

For most broadcast programs, a jump to cable isn’t always feasible due to budget issues and license fees. However, “Hannibal’ is produced by Gaumont International Television; which has already sold the series in several countries around the world. Consequently, Gaumont’s asking price for “Hannibal’s” U.S. broadcasting rights is reportedly only “a fraction of what dramas with similar production values cost.” That alone would make it an attractive pick up by a cable network. “Hannibal” is also one of the few NBC dramas that has the attention of critics and a passionate following among TV fans.

“Hannibal” is a contemporary update of the characters created by Thomas Harris in his novel “Red Dragon,” with Hugh Dancy as Special Agent Will Graham, Laurence Fishburne as Special Agent-in-Charge Jack Crawford and Mads Mikkelsen as the title character, Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

New episodes of “Hannibal” will air on NBC until the first season finale on Thursday, June 20.

Kanye West's $750,000 Lamborghini Hit By Kim Kardashian's Electric Front Gate

That's gotta hurt! Kanye West's $750,000 Lamborghini, a birthday gift from girlfriend Kim Kardashian, was hit by her electric front gate in L.A. on Tuesday, May 14.
According to TMZ, the 35-year-old rapper wasn't driving the luxury vehicle at the time of the incident, which was caught on camera.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 was being delivered to the home by a driver after getting serviced, when the front gate began closing on the car. The high-end automobile was smushed on both sides before it pulled inside the driveway.

TMZ reports that a repair shop quickly sent a mechanic to the home to check out the extent of the damage.

The mishap comes several days after the "Mercy" rapper sustained an injury himself. On May 10, West was photographed accidentally walking into a street poll while house-hunting with Kardashian, 32. But his pregnant girlfriend -- demonstrating her maternal gifts -- gave him a kiss on the forehead.

Androgyny Speaks: Zoe Saldana on Seeing no Race or Sexuality

$
0
0

I find it uncomfortable to have to speak about my identity all of the time, when in reality it’s not something that drives me or wakes me up out of bed everyday. I didn’t grow up in a household where I was categorized by my mother.I was just Zoe and I could have and be anything that I ever wanted to do…and every human being is the same as you. So to all of a sudden leave your household and have people always ask you, “What are you, what are you” is the most uncomfortable question and it’s literally the most repetitive question. I can’t wait to be in a world where people are sized by their soul and how much they can contribute as individuals and not what they look like.

....

I literally run away from people that use words like ethnic. It’s preposterous! To me there is no such thing as people of color cause in reality people aren’t white. Paper is white. People are pink, it’s a bit ridiculous when I have to explain to a human being, that is an adult like I am, that looks intelligent but for some reason I have to question his intelligence and explain to him as if he was a two year old, my composition in order for him to say, “Oh I guess I can chill with you, I can work with you.” I will not underestimate a human being and I will not allow another human being to underestimate me. I feel like as a race, that’s a minute problem against the problems we face just as women versus men, in a world that’s more geared and designed to cater towards the male species.

....

It’s again, I’m telling you, the saddest situation. I encourage every human being to spend one hour a day without categorizing and stereotyping anything, or using any titles. It is almost impossible for all of us to get through one conversation without having to go, ‘Is she Mexican? Is she gay? What kind of car does she drive?’ Our lives are going to slip and we are never going to grow and realize that it’s so much more beauty in this earth and so many more things that are important besides stereotyping ourselves and limiting ourselves just by putting ourselves in little boxes.

That said, I’m an artist and if I was to limit myself as an artist and go, “As a an artist, I can only like feminine art because I’m a woman,” I’d be the stupidest person on earth and I wouldn’t be an artist at all. If I look at beauty, I’m going to love and admire beauty no matter if it comes in the form of a masculine essence or a feminine essence. Beauty is beauty. So, up until now, I’ve known my life to be with men, I’ve been attracted to the male species, but if one day I wake up and I want to be with a woman, I’m going to do that. And I know I am going to be supported by the creatures that have raised me and love me and know me.

"BURN IN HELL!!!"

Screaming such murderous rage is all in a day's work for Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, aka the angriest girl in Westeros. "When I read [that line] in the script, it was like, 'Ah, I'm moving up! I've got capital letters and a few exclamation marks,'" Williams tells TVGuide.com.

Arya's fury is not unfounded. Lies and betrayal prompted the murder of her childhood playmate and the public execution of her father. Is it any wonder the youngest Stark daughter has a hitlist of people she wants dead?

On Sunday's Game of Thrones (9/8c, HBO), Arya is forced to spend some quality time with Sandor "The Hound" Clegane (Rory McCann), one of the names on her hitlist. After fleeing the Brotherhood Without Banners, who were going to ransom Arya to her family, she ran straight into the arms of The Hound, a skilled warrior who killed her friend.

Arya's resolve will be put to the test when the two become reluctant traveling companions. "It's all kind of like a love-hate relationship," Williams says. "I think Arya kind of looks up to him in the way that he's got everything that she hasn't. No one's going to pick on The Hound because they respect him. I think that's what Arya lacks, that respect. People will just look at her and don't look twice. I think she wishes people would be more threatened by her. They kind of go well together."

Check out what else Williams has to say about Arya's bloodlust, The Hound and tea with a Lannister:

Last season Arya was a prisoner. This season, she's barely free before she becomes a hostage for the Brotherhood and then gets caught by The Hound. How frustrated is she?
Maisie Williams:
Pretty much. I think when she first gets captured by The Brotherhood, they're always saying to her, "Oh, you can walk free." But she knows that she can't really do that without the other two and she realizes that throughout the whole thing, Gendry (Joe Dempsie) is really starting to get on with them all. She's a bit like, "What are you doing? I was supposed to help you and now you're leaving me." Amongst all of that, I think Gendry's being kind of selfish because Arya's got so much going on, maybe he doesn't know about it all. She finds it very hard to cope with all the anger that she feels. No one who she's with can really help her apart from The Hound, but she kind of hates his guts. I don't know if he's going to help her anytime soon.

Well, Arya did try to kill The Hound once already. After he won his fight with Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer), why did she rush him with a knife?
Williams:
The Starks are very loyal and she knows that The Hound is guilty [of killing her friend] and it's in her blood to kill him. That's what should be done and when she realizes that's not going to happen ... she realizes that she's going to have to do it herself. So she runs over and gets the knife and jumps over and then surprise, surprise, Gendry stops her. She's kind of furious actually. She's like, "What do you know? You weren't there. You weren't even part of any of this. I just picked you up along the way. What gives you the right to stop me from killing someone?"

Arya is just filled with anger. When she says, "More 'is' than 'isn't,'" she's calling out Thoros (Paul Kaye) for keeping her held hostage while pretending that he's not.
Williams:
It was great. I think it's all been building up to it. She doesn't really know who these people are, so she's not going to be really rude, but she's like, "Don't try and sweet-talk around this. I know why you're keeping me here, now that you realize that I'm worth something, you're going to sell me off. And you didn't even know [who I was]. It was someone else who told you that."

When it comes down to it though, do you really think Arya could find it in herself to kill The Hound in cold blood? She's only killed in self-defense before.
Williams:
Yeah, I think she knows she wouldn't be able to kill him easily. I think maybe in her head she's thinking of different ways she could do it. The whole knife thing when she runs over to him, it's not really to kill him but it's because she's really, really angry. I don't know what she thought would happen. Maybe she hoped because he was caught off guard she could be able to swordfight him. But he'd probably just slice her in two.

We know Arya hates The Hound, but how does he feel about her?
Williams:
I think he kind of admires her a little bit for how determined she is. But he really is like, "Why are you making everything so hard for yourself? Why don't you just stop fighting me and let me take you home?" I think that maybe she should keep her mouth shut more because she's getting herself into more trouble when there's lots of people trying to help her. I think she cares too much about little things for that to happen.

Arya has lost two friends. First, Hot Pie (Ben Hawkey) decided to stay and bake for an inn. Then Gendry wanted to stick with The Brotherhood before they gave him away. Does Arya feel abandoned?
Williams:
I think so, yeah. Ever since Gendry found out about her being highborn, I think she thought they always looked up to her. Then she realizes that they're not really very in awe of her at all. It's like, "Oh, cool. Well, I would rather stay here and bake stuff," or "I'd rather stay here and fix armor." She really does feel abandoned. She felt safer with them as well, kind of a little family away from family. Now she's really on her own. For so long, she convinced herself that she doesn't really care. Now that it comes down to it, she's kind of like, "Oh, it would have been nice to stay with these guys, and they're choosing to leave me." It's a bit of rejection, I guess.

Since Arya is on the run, she can't really intercept any ravens. Just how much news of her family has trickled down to her?
Williams:
I think when she was with Tywin (Charles Dance) at Harrenhal, she had heard that Robb was going to attack. I don't think she heard about [Bran and Rickon] yet. She's only ever had little droplets here and there, so she's kind of got to make up the middle bit. I think she's just trying to get home and find out for herself what's really happened. She's kind of reluctant to believe anything because so many people are not loyal.

Michelle Fairley, who plays Arya's mother, Catelyn Stark, once said that she viewed Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) as sort of a grown-up Arya. Do you think that's a fair comparison?
Williams:
I do see similarities to them. Gwen Christie, who plays Brienne, I kind of get along really well with her. We have a lot in common. We both had to have our hair cut off. There's a lot of swordfighting we have to do, not very feminine clothes, a lot of mud. I think Arya can relate to Brienne in that kind of sense as well. She doesn't know Brienne, but I think that's kind of who she's going to grow up to be like. I've never seen Arya as really worrying about her appearance or anything like that. "Armor is to keep me safe and not all pretty like Cersei wears it. It's to keep arrows out of my heart."

You're always on the run on Game of Thrones, but if you could have tea with any character, who would it be?
Williams:
Cersei. I think I'd be kind of offended by her, but to watch that happen would be great. She's got such a great humor, the way that Lena [Headey] plays her. I think it would be really interesting to talk to her as well. I don't know if she'd really answer many of my questions, but to watch her kind of get out of them would be interesting.

What is your favorite trait in Arya?
Williams:
Her ability to just say it as it is. It makes scenes kind of funny as well when everyone else is kind of speaking with fancy words, especially with the Brotherhood when they talk about their god and stuff. I think it's kind of funny when this little girl comes out with things like that. Just her ability to say, "I don't like that guy. I don't mind him." Instead of being all mysterious about everything.

Yes, there was that time when she asked Thoros if the Lord of Light could resurrect a man without a head, "not six times, just once" -- and they didn't know what to say ...
Williams:
It's just very brutal. "I'm asking you a simple question. Please give me a simple answer." And they're like, "I don't know if it really works that way." "Say no. If you mean no, say no."

If only everyone on Game of Thrones spoke as straightforwardly as Arya does!
Williams:
The story would be a lot shorter.
