Singer-actress Toni Braxton wants to play a lesbian onscreen.

The “Un-Break My Heart” singer recently stunned fans by revealing she would not be recording any more albums, because she wants to concentrate all her efforts on acting.

She kicked off her screen career as a leading lady with favorable reviews as the star of TV movie “Twist of Faith,” which aired earlier this month, and now she wants to get hot and heavy with another actress.

Braxton tells theGrio.com, “I would like to play a lesbian … and do a whole make-out scene and the whole thing, just something completely different than people would expect from me. Not a lipstick lesbian, either.”

Forever Un-Loved: Top 10 Celebs Who Will Probably Die Alone

$

Most people dream of finding true love, having thousands of kids and living in a house on a hill, but many of us, like the Cupid-hated celebs on this list, will probably die before that ever happens.

Here are the ten celebs who will probably die alone. Take a look.

Kim Kardashian

Will she ever love Kanye and their baby Kanyeia-DondaObama—or any man—more than the flashing lights and fame? Probably not, and that’s unfortunate.

Rihanna

She’s always a drug-fueled argument with Chris Brown away from an 83-hit combo and that’s scary. As long as she’s attached to Breezy (or celebrity bed-hopping), she’ll never be taken seriously by most men.

Drake

He’s the nice guy most women claim to want but usually cheat on because he’s “too nice.” If you want a sensitive man (with an Aaliyah obsession) who will paint your toenails and detangle your hair/take out your weave, he’s the one. Sadly, 96.83% of women don’t.

J. Lo

She can stop the world from spinning with one glorious leg but can’t keep a man? EVER? Somehow, this seems impossible but it’s J. Lo’s reality several jump-offs and husbands later.

Taylor Swift

Known for wearing pink chastity belts and kissing for hours, the tone-deaf queen of 11-day relationships is the ultimate prude in a hyper-sexual music industry. Hopefully, she’ll find what she desperately seeks but probably won’t.

For their latest anti-piracy campaign a Finnish activist group has ripped off the design of the infamous The Pirate Bay website. The Pirate Bay has now threatened to sue the campaigners over copyright infringement.

The campaign, launched by the anti-piracy group CIAPC, copied TPB's website, including the CSS stylesheet, and replaced the logo with one of a sinking ship. The aim is to link the visitors with a message that informs them of legal alternatives to The Pirate Bay.

This Pirate Bay says the move violates the company’s policy which does not permit theft of the site's design and has threatened legal action.

“We are outraged by this behavior. People must understand what is right and wrong. Stealing material like this on the internet is a threat to economies worldwide,” a Pirate Bay spokesman told TorrentFreak.

“Our site (and all of its contents) is free of charge for anyone for personal usage. Organizations (for instance, but not limited to, non-profit or companies) may use the system if they clear this with the system operators first,” a Pirate Bay policy statement reads.

“We reserve the rights to charge for usage of the site in case this policy is violated. The charge will consist of a basic fee of EUR 5,000 plus bandwidth and other costs that may arise due to the violation,” it adds.

CIAPC is a campaigner that works against copyright infringement on the Internet by preventing the production, distribution of unauthorized copies on the web.

Nine Inch Nails announced new tour dates and a ticket sales date on Feb. 22, 2013. The band's U.S. "How to Destroy Angels" tour will feature songs from the band's long hit list of albums.

Nine Inch Nails produced the following albums from its formation in 1989 to present. "Formation," "Pretty Hate Machine," "Broken," "The Downward Spiral," "The Fragile," "With Teeth," "Year Zero," "Ghosts I–IV" and "The Slip." The band was on an hiatus from touring for a while, now is a great opportunity to see the band live.

NIN brand of music can't be duplicated, its intense, cryptic and phenomenal. NIN front man Trent Reznor is quoted as saying, "Nine Inch Nails have influenced many newer artists," which according to Reznor range from "generic imitations" dating from his initial success, to younger bands echoing his style in a "truer, less imitative way."

Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain, who stars as a CIA agent in the film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, is slowly bringing her beau out of the shadows.

She has quietly dated Gian Luca Passi De Preposulo, an Italian count and scion of an ancient family from Bergamo in the Lombardy region of Italy, since last June .

Jessica, a best actress contender for her role as a determined intelligence analyst in Zero Dark Thirty, told the Daily Mail that she met Gian 'months ago, back in June’.

She added: 'It was at one of the fashion shows in Paris. We chatted and it went from there’.

But it has been relationship where the couple weren’t always able to see each other.

Gian Lucca ,an executive for events company Moncler, is based primarily in Milan . He’s also an expert winemaker and has interests in a vineyard in Treviso ,the Veneto region high above Venice.

One of his main tasks in Treviso concerns the marketing of Fiol proscecco a highly regarded sparkling wine, one that some oenophiles regard as one of the best in Italy.

When Jessica was in the play The Heiress from last November until the drama ended its limited run February 9, Gian Lucca would travel from Italy to New York as often as he could.

With the run of the play now over and the award season heading into its final big night, it’s easier for the couple to meet up.

After the Oscars they are due to take a holiday in Italy.

We saw each other when we could because it was difficult when I was in the play,’ Jessica explained during the annual Charles Finch –Chanel pre-Oscar dinner party at Italian restaurant Madeo in Beverly Hills .

She seemed more relaxed than ever to be in the company of her beau.

After their break in Italy Jessica will begin film a screen version of the play Miss Julie, set in Ireland, opposite Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton for actress-turned director Liv Ullmann .

We will see each other as much as we can while we have the opportunity ‘, said Gian Lucca.

The actress said that she was shocked by recent rumours that she was dating various actors.

'It was never ,ever true but I wasn’t able to say anything at the time. There was someone but not the names that were mentioned. It was always Gian’, Jessica said.

Others who attended the Finch-Chanel supper bash included: January Jones ,Kate Bosworth, Rose Byrne, Bella Heathcote, Poppy Delevingne ,Felicity Jones, Chloe Moretz, Rosie Huntington Whitely, ,Emily Mortimer, Zoe Kravitz, Andrea Riseborough, Emma Roberts,Gia Copla , Lily Collins and Alicia Vikander.

Les Miserables director Tom Hooper was there with executives from Working Title the London production company that produced Les Miserables with Cameron Mackintosh.

Shia LaBeouf Plagiarizes ‘How to Be a Man’ From Esquire; Author Reacts

$

To explain why he quit the Broadway play Orphans, problem child Shia LaBeouf decided to tweet his dramatic e-mails with the cast, including Alec Baldwin. The centerpiece of the exchange, which LaBeouf shared along with grandiose (attributed!) quotes from David Mamet and Mark Twain, are the 26-year-old's musings on what it is to be a man: "My dad was a drug dealer. He was a shit human. But he was a man," LaBeouf begins. "He taught me how to be a man. What i know of men Alec is - A man is good at his job. Not his work, not his avocation, not his hobby. Not his career. His job." A man, apparently, also takes what he pleases, because the lines are lifted from Tom Chiarella's "What Is a Man?" published by Esquire in 2009.

LaBeouf goes on in men's magazine voice: "A man owns up. That's why Mark McGwire is not a man. A man grasps his mistakes. He lays claim to who he is, and what he was, whether he likes them or not. Some mistakes, though, he lets pass if no one notices. Like dropping the steak in the dirt." The actor, playing editor, doesn't use Chiarella's entire piece, but the parts he does are taken word for word. Here's the whole e-mail. (To sum up his exposition on the issue, LaBeouf wrote on Twitter, "invent nothing, deny nothing, speak up, stand up, stay out of school." Noted, man.)

Chiarella told Daily Intelligencer that his editor had read him part of LaBeouf's message over the phone. "I said, 'That sounds good,' because I thought he had written it. Then he said, 'They're your words!'" Chiarella explained. "I'm assuming Shia Googled it." The article does show up in searches for "what is a man" and "how to be a man."

"I won't pass judgement on the guy, but I will say this: It's a very tough assignment. You're giving people words they might lean on someday. This is not the type of leaning I had in mind," he said. "I have to have a sense of humor. You write that and then everybody in the world either likes it or finds it the most pretentious piece of shit ever. So I hate having to look at the comments again."

"I hate that it's associated with his drug dealer father," he added. "My father was a good guy!"

Asked what a real man would do in this situation, Chiarella thought about it for a quick moment. "A man who's been plagiarized must be graceful and grateful that your words have power," he said."A man who plagiarized just owes an acknowledgment and a one-sentence apology. But I don't expect it."

Trend Alert: K-Pop Meets Country Music (and New Jersey)

$

2yoon1

On these shores, Korean pop music—more popularly known as K-Pop—is perhaps most identified with the club-ready electronic beats and slickly tuxedoed look of global phenomenon (and newly crowned “King of YouTube”) PSY. So why is K-Pop duo 2YOON heel-toeing in a barnyard in their new video? Why are they wearing overalls? Why is there a saloon in the background? And more important: what’s with their new K-Pop-goes-country sound?

Country music and K-Pop may seem like strange bedfellows right now, but musicians and producers are betting that this unlikely union could yield the next chart-busting hit. Meaning: we could start hearing American-music influences in one of the world’s most popular and dynamic pop genres.

In a recent interview with TIME, 2YOON’s Gayoon (who, seemingly inspired by Dr. Seuss, shares the stage with a partner named Jiyoon) explains that the duo listened to country music before recording their first album, Harvest Moon, released in January. Artists like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, they thought, seemed to have something that was missing from the music they made as members of the girl group 4minute (from which 2YOON splintered). “Country music is very easy listening and very relaxed,” she says, through a translator, noting that K-pop music and dance are much more regimented.

More than that, both found something fresh in contemporary country music. The sound “was unfamiliar to the Korean audience,” says Gayoon. “We were the first to mix country and K-pop. It was a brand-new genre.” A genre they—as the newly formed 2YOON—hoped would differentiate themselves in an already crowded market. “It was time for us to show a different side,” says Jiyoon.

And country music isn’t the only American sound heard on K-pop charts these days.

Singer Ailee, featured on a track that recently topped the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100, is a bona fide K-Pop star who just happens to have grown up in New Jersey. The Denver-born artist, now 23, moved to Korea in 2010, after a music executive contacted her after seeing one of her YouTube clips.

“I would listen and watch everything that went on in the K-Pop industry. I always knew that I wanted to be a singer and I knew that I wanted to be in Korea some day,” Ailee says. “It was really hard to go to a different country by yourself and start a career, but everything worked out well.” She’d like to have a career in the country of her birth, but Korea, she says, gives her a chance to get in touch with her roots find a measure of self-awareness.

More non-native Koreans will soon follow in her footsteps, says Ted Kim, CEO of Mnet America, a stateside distributor of “Asian cool.” Diversification is inevitable, he says, the result of producers scouring music from around the world and the growing global strength of K-Pop. “There’s been a lot of focus on how the major labels have been able to design and create these K-pop bands, but you’re seeing single performers gaining in popularity now,” he says. “If you browse through the Top 10 you see much more variety now. It’s not just the Wonder Girls, Girls’ Generation and 2NE1 dominating those charts anymore.”

K-pop, he says, offers a pop-music sound that has been largely left behind in the West, along with positive messages and forward-looking fashion, so it will continue to pull a growing variety of sounds under its umbrella. “The idea of what K-pop is continues to change,” he says. “I don’t see how it can’t.”

As much as I love K-Pop, you're not going to get the average 'MURICAN to  listen to music that's not in English. 2Yoon's debut is amazing though.

The Oscar Curse(s)

$
0
0

There is nothing in Hollywood, save for marrying Tom Cruise, that will boost your career more than winning an Academy Award.
That bald gold man ensures “Academy-Award Winning” is attached to your person for perpetuity in movie trailers, on posters, in commercials for probiotic yogurt and most importantly, in contracts—promising at least a 20% increase in your asking price for all future gigs.

Why then, would a young, up-and-coming starlet (let’s call her Anne Hathaway) want to lose out on this embarrassment of riches? Perhaps to save her relationship.

If you’ve never heard of the “Oscar Curse,” let me give you the elevator pitch. It’s a theory that actresses who win the award for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress are much more likely to lose their significant other following the big win.

The curse dates all the way back to 1935 when Claudette Colbert won Best Actress for playing Ellie Andrews in the screwball romantic comedy “It Happened One Night,” opposite Clark Gable. Colbert’s husband at the time was Norman Foster, a journalist turned mediocre actor who would eventually give up the craft to focus on directing. The awards were held on Feb. 27th of 1935 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. By August of that year the pair had split.

The moral of the story is either, 1) don’t win an award at something your husband is bad at; or 2) starring opposite Clark Gable could ruin you for all other men.

Other victims include Joan Crawford, who won Best Actress for her title role in “Mildred Pierce” in 1946. Her husband at the time was the terribly handsome, but sadly meh actor Phillip Terry. The Awards took place on March 7, 1946 and the pair were divorced just a month later.

Jane Wyman won Best Actress in 1949 for her role as a deaf-mute rape victim in “Johnny Belinda.” She split from her husband Ronald Reagan later that year. Luckily Ronnie had other strengths.

More recently audiences have watched as Charlize Theron split from her longtime partner Stuart Townsend in the wake of her 2005 win for “Monster,” Hilary Swank ended her marriage with Chad Lowe after her second Oscar win for “Million Dollar Baby,” Reese Witherspoon filed for divorce from husband Ryan Phillipe after her win for “Walk the Line,” and Sandra Bullock saw her marriage melt down with reality star Jesse James after her 2010 win for “The Blind Side.”

Best Supporting Actresses are not immune. Both Renee Zellweger and Jennifer Hudson split from their longtime loves, Jack White and James Payton respectively, shortly after their Oscar wins.

It’s enough make any newlywed root for Sally Field.

Hathaway was married last September to fellow actor Adam Shulman. Never heard of him? Neither has anyone else. Shulman’s credits include guest spots on “American Dreams” and “The West Wing” and an appearance in what appears to be a straight-to-DVD spinoff of “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

Relationships are hard. They can be harder when two people work in the same industry and share the same dreams and goals. They can be harder still when two people work in the same industry, share the same dreams and goals, and one is consistently gracing the covers of magazines, winning little gold men, and taking calls from Harvey Weinstein.

Naturally, a women looks for someone to have traits that are more muscular than herself. That is not only about the looks and physical strength but also the amount of self-confidence, and being the provider, mentally and financially. The stress is on him to find ways to be the alpha in the relationship,” explains dating and relationship coach Israel Irenstein.

Irenstein notes that one party’s success can lead to a cloying co-dependency that makes the other increasingly unattractive. “If he feels lucky to even be there, then she will lose attraction,” he told me about the worst case scenario for the Hathaway-Shulman union.

There is also the public relations pressure of being with someone who is so much more famous than you are. In real life this can come in the form of people constantly bragging about your spouse’s achievements at a cocktail party and then forgetting your name or your mom asking about your significant other’s awesome job before she asks about your more mundane one.
That kind of outside pressure can be poisonous, and once the relationship develops any kind of adversity that poison may kick in,” Irenstein says.

Unlike the Best Actor awards, which are usually given for a solitary role, the Best Actress awards are often given to a woman who is somehow “having a moment,” wherein her career has reached a serious turning point and there is no going back to the kind of work she did in the past.

Hollywood.com’s Brian Moylan chalks the “Oscar Curse” up to superstition—albeit superstition with a price.
But all superstition is bred from reality. Academy Award wins may not cause a relationship to end, but a relationship has a higher likelihood of suffering when the balance of power is disrupted, i.e. one party becomes hugely successful and the other stagnates.

It doesn’t just happen in Hollywood. More and more women are outshining their men in the professional arena these days. Dr. Gilda Carle, “The Today Show”’s 30-second therapist, says she sees the “Oscar Curse” happen in all walks of life, often leading to the erosion of communication and extramarital affairs to buffer the pain.
Take the married yoga gurus who grew apart once one became a super-guru with their own DVD series and left the other one to teach downward dog to Brooklyn mommies on a Monday afternoon. Or the longtime married lawyers who split when one became partner (she not he).

Elizabeth R., 34, says her relationship with her husband Derek began falling apart after she was promoted above him at the architectural firm where they both worked.
“I wasn’t his boss, but I was making decisions way above his pay-grade,” Elizabeth told me. “It seemed to emasculate him. After awhile we stopped talking about work…and then we stopped talking altogether.”

The only way to prevent a relationship’s derailment is to talk out your feelings and fears,” Dr. Carle explains. “Sadly, few couples—famous and not so famous—choose to do that.”

For film actors and actresses, is there any greater career glory than hoisting an Oscar statue in triumph?

This peer-voted recognition of onscreen excellence that will take place starting with red carpet coverage at 7 p.m. today on ABC (seen locally on WTVG-TV, Channel 13), is a defining moment for Hollywood stars, just as it is for athletes winning the Super Bowl or medaling at the Olympics.

An Academy Award win should portend bigger, better, and brighter years ahead for an actor or actress.

In theory, at least.

In practice, there’s no guarantee of post-Oscar box-office success and industry acclaim. While this phenomenon is often referred to as the Oscar Curse, there’s nothing mystical or devilish about it. A post-Academy Award career flameout can be the result of simple factors such as poor career decisions and audience indifference.

Luise Rainer, the first back-to-back Academy Award winner for The Great Ziegfeld in 1936 and The Good Earth in 1937, is arguably the first Oscar casualty.

Rainer, a Jewish-German actress who emigrated to the United States with the rise of Hitler in the 1930s, signed a seven-year contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and appeared in a handful of films through 1938, but grew disgruntled with the Hollywood star machine and the roles that studio head Louis B. Mayer was foisting on her. She quit the business in protest and, other than a cameo in 1943’s Milada Pressinger, didn’t appear in a film again until 1997’s The Gambler.

Rainer is that Oscar-winning rarity, a star who walked away from Hollywood on her own terms. Considerably more common is the artist who struggles long after his or her big moment on the Academy Award stage.

Louis Gossett, Jr., was primarily a TV actor when he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar as tough-but-fair Sgt. Emil Foley in 1982’s An Officer and a Gentleman. He followed up that industry honor with 1983’s legendarily bad Jaws 3D. Gossett also starred in 1986’s box-office hit Iron Eagle, but many of his later films are of the low-budget family-friendly variety, including 2012’s Smitty, which co-stars an Oscar-winning actress with a similarly fading star, Mira Sorivino.

Her 1995 Best Supporting Actress win in The Mighty Aphrodite was a surprise — Kate Winslet was the favorite for Sense and Sensibility — and after a series of box-office disappointments her career trajectory began descending, perhaps bottoming out as the title role in last year’s made-for-Lifetime holiday drama Finding Mrs. Claus. Sorvino was just announced to play Jim Gaffigan’s wife in the comic’s CBS comedy pilot.

Five years after Cuba Gooding, Jr., won Best Supporting Actor as the brash NFL wide receiver with the loud catchphrase “Show me the money!” in Jerry Maguire, his career literally went to the dogs with 2002’s Snow Dogs. By 2007 he made Norbit and Daddy Day Care, and has since starred in a string of direct-to-DVD films including Lies & Illusions, The Devil’s Tomb, and Ticking Clock, along with the occasional panned feature film such as 2012’s Red Tails.

It could also be argued that those three Oscar winners are examples of fortuitous film roles, when the perfect script, director, and studio came together to help them deliver a once-in-a-lifetime performance.

This could be called the Kim Basinger Law, named for the model-turned actress who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar as a Veronica Lake-lookalike prostitute in 1997’s L.A. Confidential. More than 15 years later, Basinger hasn’t had a hit since her supporting role as Eminem’s mother in the rapper’s 2002 film debut, 8 Mile.

Geena Davis won Best Supporting Actress for 1988’s Accidental Tourist and proved the win wasn’t a fluke with her Oscar nomination for 1991’s Thelma & Louise. But the record-setting flop of 1995’s Cutthroat Island followed by the failure of 1996’s The Long Kiss Goodnight took its toll.

The fate of Davis is a cautionary tale for Oscar-winners such as Adrien Brody (2002’s The Pianist) and Halle Berry (2001’s Monster’s Ball), and even a well-respected actor such as Forest Whitaker (2006’s The Last King of Scotland), each of whom has struggled more often than not at the box office and with the quality of their films since their Academy Awards.

Even an A-lister like Reese Witherspoon could be considered in danger of falling prey to the Oscar Curse. The 36-year-old actress has starred in the following films since winning Best Actress as June Carter in 2005’s Walk the Line: Penelope (2006), Rendition (2007), Four Christmases (2008), Monsters vs. Aliens (2009), How Do You Know (2010), Water for Elephants (2011), and This Means War (2012).

But the Oscar Curse isn’t always permanent.

Had this story been written in, say, 2007, Marisa Tomei, 1992’s Best Supporting Actress winner for My Cousin Vinny, would have certainly been included as an Oscar flop. Then she made 2008’s drama The Wrestler and her career was reborn. And Helen Hunt, who won a Best Actress Oscar for 1997’s As Good as It Gets, lived up to the film’s title until her role this year as a sympathetic sex surrogate in The Sessions. The performance drew raves and earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination.

That’s certainly something fellow nominee Anne Hathaway should consider as she takes the stage to accept her Oscar for Les Miserables, as most predict she will. If nothing else, she should take the time to absorb as much of her crowning achievement as she can, as should all of the first-time winners.

There is a chance it could be downhill from here.

Dave Grohl on Barry Manilow, Metallica and reuniting with Nirvana

$
0

Never interrupt the nicest man in rock mid-conversation. Dave Grohl, the Ohio-born backbone of both Nirvana and the Foo Fighters has some history with British GQ. In 2008 Grohl flew to London for 24 hours to present Led Zeppelin with the "Outstanding Achievement" award at our Men Of The Year ceremony. Mid-way through his heartfelt tribute (sample quote: "They were my escape, my teachers, my dreams and they were my church"), the "Whole Lotta Love" riff started playing slightly early. "Wait, I'm not done motherf***ers!" cried Grohl. "This is a big deal to me! I don't know how many Led Zeppelin tattoos you have but if they outnumber mine, then we need to talk!"

Reminded of that night four years later in a phone call recently, Grohl clearly has forgiven us for messing up our cue. "Oh my God, that night was amazing," he says down the line from Los Angeles. "It's not often in life you get asked to present Led Zeppelin with an award. The funny thing is that night I cornered John Paul Jones and begged him to do a side project [Them Crooked Vultures] with me." However for once we're not talking to Grohl about his remarkable musical career: instead we're discussing his directorial debut, Sound City, a documentary focusing on a threadbare LA studio in which everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Nine Inch Nails recorded. To mark the release we chatted to Grohl about small talk with Rick Rubin, the worst rock doc clichés and reuniting with his Nirvana bandmates with a Beatle on vocals…

GQ: Sound City has a hell of a cast - including Frank Black, Josh Homme and Trent Reznor. But how on earth did you get Barry Manilow onboard?
Dave Grohl: Barry Manilow is the coolest motherf***er in the world. Years ago we have a family friend named Dave Koz who is a jazz alto saxophonist. He's pretty famous - he's won Grammys, has a radio show and has sold millions of records. He was getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame so he invited us to the ceremony at the Capitol Records building. In the green room before the event started it was like the Mount Rushmore of smooth jazz, including Kenny G and Barry Manilow. The only time I'd seen Barry before was at a Clive Davis party where he performed a medley of his hits that went on for half an hour that left everyone - from Puff Daddy to Pearl Jam - in tears. So on the day we were walking out to see Dave get his star, I heard Barry's assistant whisper, "That's Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters." Barry said, "Dave Grohl - I love the Foo Fighters!" He had me right there! Barry had recorded at Sound City - one of the coolest things about the movie and the list of cast members is the diversity: there's a lot of rock in there but everyone recorded at Sound City at least once, from Barry Manilow to Trent Reznor. That [original] soundboard that I bought [at auction] should be in the rock'n'roll hall of fame. It has so much magic inside of it from all of those different artists.

Lars Ulrich also appears in Sound City. Do you think he gets a particularly hard time thanks to the Some Kind Of Monster documentary?
First of all I love Lars Ulrich. He's always been a huge influence. I bought the first Metallica record the month it came out, I am a die-hard fan and you will have to pry their CDs from my cold dead hands. Lars is without a doubt a very strong personality. I think he's the engine that drives that band - he might not be the [sole] creative mastermind (although he's 50 per cent of it) but he is as passionate about what he does as any other great musician. You also don't meet too many people who just don't give a f***. Lars does not give care what you think! I have a lot of respect for that. I have wrestled with that guy drunk on the floor of a hotel room, I've cried to that guy - he knows he's my hero. But he won't change. Some Kind Of Monster is such a nightmare for any musician to watch because you're watching a band be honest to each other. Not a good idea man! You know why Foo Fighters have been a band for 20 years? Because I've never really told anybody what I think of them. The last thing you ever want to do is go is go to therapy with your band. I feel like that's what happened to the Kinks - that's when people start punching each other in the face. We keep the peace by not having the therapist in a sweater that charges $2000 a week.

Who was the hardest person to track down to appear in Sound City?
Neil Young. He was the first person to agree to do it and the last person to do his interview - there was a year in between. I eventually just had to fly to Hawaii. Someone said, "I'm so sorry he really wants to do it but he's got the next five days off and you're going to have to go". I flew everyone down with all their gear, talked to him for an hour and a half and the rest of the time I just drank beer in the ocean. So cool - there's nothing better than having a bottle of beer in your hand in the waves.

Is there such a thing as small talk with Rick Rubin?
Rick has the air of being a "guru production genius" but in reality he's just a fan of music. He's a very particular type of producer. He doesn't play every instrument. He doesn't have a deep classic musical knowledge. He's more of a good set of ears - which is huge! Sometimes that's a lot more useful than someone who graduated from Juilliard and can play circles around every musician in the room. If you're trying to connect to people with music - it's more of an outward process and a lot of times musicians can be very inward. The good thing about Rick is that he has, for lack of better term, a very populist ear. That's something that is hard to find in producers. That's why he's so successful - honestly. He's got a very strange way of making albums that a lot of people don't necessarily gel with or agree with but there's no denying that he has made countless hit records. I have a lot of respect for Rick Rubin, I really do. I wish I could hear my songs like he hears my songs. What he'll do is take a band and give them writing assignments. He'll say "OK I want you to write a song for The Supremes." So you step outside of yourself, write the song and then he'll say "OK so you wrote that song but you stepped out of yourself to write it. So you got away from your place that stopped you writing songs." Not a lot of people do that…

Apart from you - you've talked before about writing almost in character for people like Norah Jones…
What happens a lot of the time is I'll write a song, listen to it and I won't release it because I feel like it sounds like someone else - it's exactly what Rick tries to get you away from doing. There are songs on the Sound City record that I wrote but never used because I didn't necessarily feel that they fit into the aesthetic of the Foo Fighters catalogue. The song that Stevie Nicks sings - "You Can't Fix This" - I wrote it eight years ago and didn't use it because I thought it sounded like a Fleetwood Mac song! It sounds better than if I had done it - I think she's just brilliant.

How excited are you for the Fleetwood Mac reformation?
The Fleetwood Mac story is a huge part of the Sound City story. They were the first band to make an album on this mixing console that got enormously huge. They were the first band to bring real attention to Sound City. The dynamic in that band is so much more complicated than most other bands - it's not just a bunch of dudes who went to high school together and started in their garage. It's a really complicated story so whenever they get together to play, the stars have aligned to make that happen. They don't just go down to the pub to have a beer and practice. It's a lot more complicated than that - just knowing that backstory makes everything they do a little bit deeper, richer, more heartbreaking and more beautiful. The emotional quality and content of Fleetwood Mac is so much deeper than 99 per cent of the bands you hear every day. It's heavy, it's a soap opera, it's insane

What did working on Foo Fighters tour doc Back And Forth teach you about making documentaries?
To forget there's a camera in your face 24 hours a day! The director was a brilliant Academy Award winning director named James Moll. Just being around him and watching the process - the way he constructed and edited the film was influential and inspiring. At one point before we started filming I came to him and said "This is what I think the movie is about." He basically said "Isn't it a documentary? They tend to write themselves…"
Most rock bands live these formulaic biography existences...There's always a divorce. There's always an OD. There's always a bad business manager.

As a musician, what annoys you about music documentaries?
I don't want to say that most rock bands live these formulaic biography existences - but they kinda do. There's always a divorce. There's always an OD. There's always a bad business manager. That story has been told a thousand times. When I meet young musicians and they fuck themselves up because they've read too many rock'n'roll biographies, it makes me a little sad. There's other ways of doing it - you don't have to get strung out on heroin to write a good song. There are times when I hear that story again and again - and I just think "You idiots. You don't have to follow that ridiculous routine time and time again." That I'm sick of! But there are music documentaries that are as important to me as any textbook that was ever shoved into my face at high school. The first The Decline Of Western Civilisation movie (a documentary on punk rock in Los Angeles in the early Eighties) is wicked. It's so real and good. Another one Dig!, about the Dandy Warhols - no one has captured the train wreck of being in a rock band like that movie. It's phenomenal - it might as well have UFOs and a Bigfoot in it because it's the only picture where you're ever going to get that kind of meltdown.

Which directors have used music you have written particularly well?
God I don't know! I don't really pay attention to a lot of that. Well I'll tell you this funny thing…we were asked to write and record a song for the Godzilla movie that came out in 1998. Outside of Waterworld it may have been the biggest flop in music history. They gave us an astronomical amount of money to write and record a song to put in the movie and we did. We recorded a song at Sound City ["A320"], we were very proud of it, we submitted it and they gave us a cheque. We were on tour when the movie came out, we sat in the theatre, we suffered the two and a half hours to sit in front of Godzilla. As the credits rolled I think they gave us about seven seconds at the tail end of the credits. I think I bought a new car with the money…

How was playing "Cut Me Some Slack" with Paul McCartney and your former Nirvana bandmates?
I love playing with Paul because he's the best kind of musician to jam with. Of course he's brilliant but he is confident, he likes to experiment and he doesn't need things to be absolutely spot on - he likes it when the feel is there. A lot of the guys who started this whole thing are entirely about that - a lot of my generation is about playing perfectly in time, playing perfectly in tune and that doesn't really make for exciting rock'n'roll. Playing with him is just great because you can just go nuts. I asked if he would record a song for the Sound City movie and when he said yes I immediately called Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear from Nirvana and said "You guys! We've got to record a song with Paul! Can you imagine?". The three of us having recorded together with me on drums, Krist on guitar and Pat on bass since Nirvana. I thought this will be such a perfect way to do something exciting. So Paul showed up, Krist and Pat had never met him so of course they were terrified. We started jamming and within an hour it had turned into a song. Within two hours we had an arrangement. Within three hours we had a track recorded with vocals. It was a quick afternoon in the studio - very informal, no assistants, managers, helicopters, fireworks. The fact we were doing with that with Paul kept Kris, Pat and I from looking at each other and realizing that, as former members of Nirvana, this hadn't happened in 20 years. We were halfway through the day and I looked over at Kris who was bouncing around like he usually does and looked at Pat and he was smiling and beating the s*** out of his guitar - wow, it looked like Nirvana. It was a life moment for me. I think maybe people see bands and musicians as some sort of superhero unrealistic sport that happens in another dimension where it's not real people and not real emotions. So, I grew up listening to Beatles records on my floor. That's how I learned how to play guitar. If it weren't for them I wouldn't be a musician. To be as the same room making a new song with him, with my friends, with Nirvana, recording it on the board that's responsible for Nevermind is without a doubt one of the most incredible experiences of my entire life. It was way beyond a download or a CD or a video. It was so huge for me that fortunately it's been documented.

What's the strangest gift you've got from a fan?
I once received a cape that was made from the little purple bags that Crown Royal Whisky comes in. I know! I used to wear it but I don't anymore.

For our 20th anniversary your message to GQ was simply "I hate fashion". What's the most expensive thing you're currently wearing?
I've got to be honest - I'm currently only wearing a pair of grey Calvin Klein underwear. You caught me right out of the shower! I think they're worth about eleven dollars. I'm keeping it real right now. Look - I'm not allergic to fashion. I'm just one of those people who when they put on a suit look like they're going to a funeral or to court. Once in a blue moon I'll make my wife happy by wearing something she's seen in a magazine. Years ago I got the Man Of The year award from GQ in America - maybe 2003. I was very honoured, it was a big deal, but we had to go to New York for the ceremony and my wife says to me "What are you wearing?" I told her jeans and a t-shirt and she said 'You can't wear that! It's a fashion magazine!" I said "So what! I'm a f***ing rock musican. I'm not going to wear some fancy suit. She goes: "Everyone else there will be in suits". That year Justin Timberlake was also getting an award. I said "I bet you Justin Timberlake is not going to be wearing a suit?" She bet me he would and whoever lost the bet had to walk up to him and say "Hi Justin, I'm your biggest fan!" We get there and he's in a f***ing suit man! He actually came up to say hello to me before I had to embarrass myself like that…

Jennifer Lawrence Is Not Thirsty For Oscars

She's hotly tipped to grab her first Oscar when the Academy Awards get underway in Hollywood this weekend, but Jennifer Lawrence admits she won't be losing any sleep if someone else steals her thunder.

The 22-year old actress is one of the Best Actress nominations for her role as Tiffany Maxwell in recent box office hit 'Silver Linings Playbook,' but while she remains the bookies favourite to claim the award at the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (Feb 24) Jennifer is doing her best to put thoughts of winning to one side.

I try not to (think about winning),” she told the Daily Mirror. “For my career, I hope, knock on wood, that it happens, but I don't have a personal interest in it. I'm not going to cry myself to sleep if it doesn't happen, I'm still going to be happy. I'm still going to have my friends and I will be fine. It's just, will I get promoted or not?”

While she plays a risqué former sex-addict in 'Silver Linings,' Jennifer admits that off-screen she has a life-long fear of breaking the rules.

I've had a severe case of anxiety since I was young about getting in trouble,” she said. “I hate getting in trouble and I hate breaking rules. I try to live my life doing what I think is the best thing to do in the situation. So then something goes wrong and I end up apologizing.”

The young actress also admitted that co-star Bradley Cooper gave her some much needed advice about the perils of fame when they first met.

He was the one who told me I couldn't shop in Whole Foods and I tested it and he was totally right,” she said. “The paparazzi are at every Whole Foods.

"It's fine, I have friends to get my groceries.”

After last month's season finale of American Horror Story: Asylum a mini cottage industry sprung up around the series, with a series of mishmash videos popping up (Google American Horror Story Harlem Shake for this week's trend), queer fan fiction (as if the series needed even more gaying), and endless fan memoriums and demanding tributes.

The show's creators even put out this final video in which the actors (including two of the gay stars, Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto) talk about life inside Briarcliff, the asylum around which the season revolved.

Watch for yourself with the video below, while you wait for the series to arrive on DVD and for the season three incarnation to return to the little screen (both of which are expected to happen this fall).

Ahead of Silver Linings Playbook's big night at The Oscars, Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos - who has been living with bipolar disorder all his life - isn't all too pleased with the film's portrayal of mental illness.

Despite his misgivings of the topic in the film, he concedes that it's better for it to be discussed, rather than not at all:
