Brutally Honest Oscar Ballot #3

voter is an actor:

- Brooklyn wasn't realistic
- put Big Short on nr.1 and left the other spots open (the BP vote is preferential)
- personally doesn't like Abrahamson and Inarritu. "I never met [Spotlight's] Tom McCarthy, but everyone associated with that movie came across as a little too self-important"
- their actor choices: Cranston/Rampling/Rylance/Winslet
- "Also, I've gotta tell you that a lot of Academy members were bothered by him [Leo] showing up at Academy events with two bodyguards."
- "Now, even if Rooney Mara had been nominated in the leading category, I wouldn't have voted for her because I thought her performance was dreadful — that part needed an Audrey Hepburn, an enchanting, alive, beautiful young woman, instead of this depressed person who I never believed Cate Blanchett would have fallen in love with."
- is very angry over Rooney and Alicia's category fraud
- on best score: "I don't know, I thought Star Wars: [The Force Awakens] was very loud."
- seems to have watched everything, even the shorts

- Cites Jenner as a "secondary reality television personality"

- Lists criticisms from disability and black communities due to Jenner's "photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts" as one of the grounds for opposition

Saturn Awards move John Boyega to Best Actor category after fan outrage

0
0

A few days ago the Saturn Awards announced their nominations and had John Boyega nominated as Best Supporting Actor for Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens, despite his character Finn being the co-lead with Rey (portrayed by Daisy Ridley, who was rightfully nominated in the Best Actress category). After days of fans online expressing their outrage at John's contribution to the film being diminished, the Saturn Awards announced today that they have heard the fans' voices and are moving John to the Best Actor category.

Here is their statement:
Dear Friends of the Saturn Awards:
It has been an exciting time for all genre fans with the release of this year’s Saturn Awards nominations. After careful consideration, we are making an adjustment on our nomination list. We are moving actor John Boyega to the category of Best Actor in a Film. This better reflects his contributions to the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We all look forward to voting and honoring the best in genre entertainment.

i'm shocked they actually did this but i'm so pleased. john deserves all the success and praise.

A 7th Heaven Reunion!

During the launch of Jessica Biel's restaurant Au Fudge, the cast of 7th Heaven had  a mini reunion. Beverley Mitchel (middle child Lucy) shared on Instagram a pic of her with Jessica (eldest daughter Mary), Mackenzie Rosman (youngest daughter Ruthie), Catherine Hicks (the mom), and Barry Watson (eldest brother Matt).

Cast members who were not invited missed the launch were David Gallagher (second brother Simon) and Lorenzo & Nikolas Brino (twins Sam and David). Stephen Collins (the patriarch), who in 2014 admitted that he had inappropriate sexual conduct with minors, was also not present.

1959 Academy Awards - Dancing with the Stars

The 1959 Academy Awards broadcast ended a whopping 20 minutes early, so host Jerry Lewis ad-libbed for a bit to fill airtime and then invited all the winners and presenters back out onstage for a dance contest. NBC also cut out to air a short film on gun safety.

2011 Academy Awards - Anne Hathaway and James Franco hosting.

All of it.

1989 Academy Awards - Rob Lowe sings with Snow White

The entire thing is awful, but Rob Lowe starts at 5:30.
This opening number was so derided, that major Hollywood heavyweights, including Paul Newman, Gregory Peck, Julie Andrews and Billy Wilder, signed a scathing open letter that stated the following:

“The 61st Academy Awards show was an embarrassment to both the Academy and the entire motion picture industry. It is neither fitting nor acceptable that the best work in motion pictures be acknowledged in such a demeaning fashion. We urge the president and governors of the Academy to ensure that future award presentations reflect the same standard of excellence as that set by the films and filmmakers they honor.”

1974 Academy Awards - David Niven delivers the best one-liner ever

"Isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings."

1934 Academy Awards - "Come up and get it, Frank!"
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Host Will Rogers presented the Academy Award for Best Director, and when he opened the envelope he simply announced, "Come up and get it, Frank!" The problem was that there were two Franks nominated that year: Frank Capra and Frank Lloyd. Capra, certain he was the winner, ran to the podium to collect the Oscar, only to discover Rogers had meant Frank Lloyd, who won for Cavalcade, instead. Capra later wrote that the walk back to his seat was “the longest, saddest, most shattering walk in my life.”

Lana Del Rey on Donald Trump

0
0

This week Lana Del Rey took home the award for ‘Female Music Artist Of The Year’ at the ELLE Style Awards, and post her receiving her award we asked her what she made of Republican front runner Donald Trump.

Here’s what she had to say;

‘There’s a lot to talk about. I mean you know although I believe that personality shouldn’t get in the way of people’s true politics and what they are actually standing for, I need more information from all of my potential candidates. From all of them. Democrats, republicans, I have a lot of conflicting feelings about all of them, to be politically correct.

Lana continued,

I need more time to figure out if what they’re saying can pass through and is actually feasible. Not just with Trump but with democratic potential candidates.’
