Lady Gaga US Concert Tour Starts in Tacoma; Group Protests With Airplane Ad

Lady Gaga had a message Monday for the screaming, costumed fans who showed up outside the Tacoma Dome hours before her concert: Help make society more accepting of differences and safer for young people.

“The change begins with you,” the recording artist told the crowd over a loudspeaker before starting the American leg of her Born This Way Tour.

In the background, a banner flown by an airplane hired by the Florida Family Association had a different message: “NOT BORN THIS WAY.”

The pre-concert tailgate was outside Gaga’s Born Brave Bus, part of her Born This Way Foundation. The gathering was meant to help connect fans with community resources such as mental health services and volunteer organizations.

The Florida Family Association, whose leaders in Tampa could not be reached for comment Monday evening, stated on its website that it paid $1,900 to fly the banner from 1 p.m. until sundown. The group said it is seeking donations to fly the banner at other stops on Gaga’s tour.

On its website, the group asked: “How would you feel if your child or grandchild went to a concert where unbeknownst to you they were convinced to embrace a homosexual or transgender lifestyle for a lifetime?”

Some of Gaga’s fans said the Florida group had missed the singer’s message.

“It’s not just about gay rights, it’s about loving your fellow humans,” Kaitlyn Kaneshiro, 19, of Enumclaw. “Get to know me, then you can judge me.”

She was with new friends she had met in line from Portland, Bellevue and Montana. That happens when you’re all Gaga fans, according to the group, most of whom wore Gaga-related face paint.

“We’re all little monsters,” 18-year-old Bruce Strange of Portland said, quoting the artist’s pet name for her fans. As for the people responsible for the banner, he said he’d try to find common ground if they were there in person.

“I would like to have a conversation with them,” he said.

“She’s given us everything,” said Veronica Rivera, 20 of Whitefish, Mont., who has several Gaga tattoos, including one that reads: “Born This Way.” Gaga’s music helped her through a time that she had suicidal thoughts and would hurt herself, she said.

“I had no idea who I was,” Rivera said. “I was able to come out of the closet and rise up from the darkness. Everybody’s fighting a battle.”

The camaraderie of fellow fans is a big part of Gaga’s message, she said.

“Coming to her show is a time, for once, to not be alone,” she said before hugging a new friend from Bellevue she said she had met 10 minutes before.

Brittney Blankenship, 21, of Lewiston, Idaho, said the banner was the Florida group’s prerogative.

“It’s disheartening, but it’s their right,” she said. “As much as we want to have this pride, they have the right to feel how they do too.”

Some fans felt Gaga’s message of acceptance extended to those flying the banner.

“If that guy landed the plane and got in line, no one would have a problem,” said Tina Hoyos, 53, of Seattle, sporting rhinestone eyelashes. “As a parent and as a fan, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more respectful crowd of people.”

Gaga’s music helped her get through chemotherapy for breast cancer, she said as she stood in line with 13-year-old daughter Tessa.

“We’re all born the way we are, and God don’t make junk,” she said, adding she learned that lesson from her mother. Tessa learned it from Gaga.

“God doesn’t make mistakes,” the 13-year-old added, paraphrasing one of Gaga’s popular lyrics.

Hear the first single off the band's third album, "Such Hot Blood" ... Frontman Mikel Jollett talks "horrific" events that led to the song

The Airborne Toxic Event is looking to heat things up on its third album.

The Los Angeles rock act's "Such Hot Blood" is due this spring on Island, led by first single "Timeless." The anthemic song (premiering below) was written in the aftermath of a rough year for the band's frontman, Mikel Jollett, who lost four family members, including his grandmother, during a time he called "awful and horrific."

"I wrote a song on the record called 'What's In a Name,' it was just a really big rock 'n' roll song," Jollett said. "As soon as I wrote that, I knew I wanted Jacquire to produce the record."

And after a quiet stint back in L.A. in advance of the album release, the tour veterans are looking forward to getting back on the road -- and playing to loyal fans like one the band encountered in Chicago at a recent one-off show.

"I look out into the audience and he holds up his arm and there's a massive Airborne tattoo just covering his entire arm, from shoulder to wrist," Jollett said. "The whole front row at Airborne shows these days is all people with Airborne tattoos… Our fans are awesome. It's not that hard to stay motivated."

See the Airborne Toxic Event's tour dates below:

Justin Bieber's Mother Produces Anti-Abortion Film

Justin Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, is an executive producer on an upcoming anti-abortion short film.

The makers of "Crescendo" hope to raise $10 million for pregnancy centers at screenings worldwide starting Feb. 28. Mallette herself will appear at some of these, said production company Movie to Movement on Friday.

The pop star's mother has written and spoken extensively about the addiction and abuse that led to her teenage pregnancy.

Mallette said in a statement she hopes her involvement with "Crescendo" will "encourage young women all over the world, just like me, to let them know that there is a place to go, people who will take care of you and a safe home to live in if you are pregnant and think you have nowhere else to turn."

Also here is some information about the centers that this film (and no doubt the allowance money of some Beliebers) will be making money for.

Emma Stone's wearing an ugly bra on covers of W magazine

Little Miss Sunshine

Whether dolled up or au naturel, Emma Stone is Hollywood’s reigning golden girl.

emma-stone-w-magazine-01182013-04-435x580

In the past five years, Emma Stone has gone from playing the goofy sidekick in movies like Zombieland and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past to the serious heroine in The Help and Gangster Squad (in theaters January 11). Her breakthrough role in the surprise hit Easy A, in which she portrayed a high school girl who amps up her popularity by pretending to be promiscuous, introduced Stone as a leading lady. She not only was very pretty but also had a sly sense of comic timing and a knack for physical humor.

Growing up in Arizona, Stone worshipped Gilda Radner on Saturday Night Live and Steve Martin in The Jerk—which explains her propensity for giving a slightly loopy twist to even her most dramatic performances. In Crazy, Stupid, Love, she and Ryan Gosling have a cinematic date that has probably encouraged a million real-life dates, and Stone is so convincing that her character believably changes the life of a committed womanizer. Anyone who is able to out-sexy Gosling at his sexiest, with largely improvised dialogue, has true movie star appeal. Last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man prequel, in which Stone, 24, played Gwen Stacy opposite her boyfriend, the actor Andrew Garfield, was a triumph of personal chemistry over special effects and pyrotechnics. Like all the great screwball actresses, Stone knows how to set off her own kind of sparks.

dfvdsfv

In Gangster Squad, Stone reunites with Gosling, and their love scenes have an intensity that gives the movie an emotional center. Although her part is underwritten, Stone does something new: She channels a glamorous woman of mystery.

Who do you play in Gangster Squad?
Grace Faraday, who moved to Hollywood in the ’40s to become a star and ended up falling in with Mickey Cohen, a very well-known gangster, and his brood. Grace is also having an affair with Jerry Wooters, portrayed by Ryan Gosling. He’s one of the cops investigating Mickey Cohen. Grace is playing with fire—she’s constantly torn, caught in that classic conundrum between good and evil.

dsfsdf

Actresses from that era were always so dolled up. Was it hard to be perfectly groomed at all times?
Those undergarments were pretty demanding. It’s time-consuming to put on a bustier and a little corset every day. But you’re immediately more poised than you would be in modern-day clothes. And it makes it easy to get into character.

Do you find it hard not to be funny, even in serious dramas?
In real life, sometimes it’s uncomfortable for me not to go for the joke. I’ve been looking at that in myself lately. Often, joking for me is a way of diffusing the awkwardness of a situation, so it’s kind of exhilarating to be a part of projects where there’s nothing funny or lighthearted.

sdfsdf

Let’s talk about last year’s Oscars, where you presented an award with Ben Stiller. Some viewers thought you were the most memorable part of the night.
It was for best visual effects, so Ben and I had all these funny ideas. Planet of the Apes was nominated, so we thought we would bring a chimp onstage and I’d say, “Oh—it looks so real.” And Ben would be like, “It’s a real chimp.” And I’d be insisting, “Oh, my God—the work they do now is so staggering.” And he’d repeat, “It’s a real chimp.” But apparently, you can’t make the Oscar presentation about a particular movie or else the audience thinks you’re swaying the vote toward that movie. So instead, we pretended that Ben had been to the Oscars many times and I was this really overly enthusiastic Oscar presenter. I was very excited, and he was not.

You were extremely convincing.
Thanks. Though a lot of people thought it was something else: When I came offstage, they were saying, “You were so drunk!” And I wasn’t. Not until after…

Did you enjoy the Oscars?
At first, when you go to premieres and award shows, you’re thinking, How the hell am I here? All these people I’ve never met are here, and it’s so cool! And then, as time goes on, it’s a little bit like, Ah…it’s more like work. There are only a couple of events where I’ve truly felt, That was an awesome night—and the Oscars was one of them.

What movie makes you cry?
The end of City Lights makes me cry every time I see it—when Charlie Chaplin walks by the shop window and the once blind girl brings him a flower and pins it to his lapel. She’s always thought that he was a millionaire, but he was really a tramp. She feels his hand and says, “You?” And he nods. He says, “You can see now?” And she says, “Yes, I can see now.” They cut back to his face, and he lights up like you’ve never seen. That last line—“Yes, I can see now”—has so many meanings. It’s echoed in every great romantic movie since then and in every great moment of life.

More than you ever wanted to know about LeAnn and Eddie's sex life

LeAnn Rimes boasts that she has non-stop sex with Eddie Cibrian in interview... and Brandi Glanville thanks her for the publicity

article-2264889-16FA7D55000005DC-553_634x427

LeAnn may have taken her husband, but she won't stand in the way of her career.
Just a day after LeAnn Rimes opened up to Entertainment Tonight about her non-stop sex with new husband Eddie Cibrian, the actor's ex-wife Brandi Glanville launched an attack on Twitter.
In the interview, the 30-year-old singer admitted that the couple are thinking about starting a family -- and have sex 'any time of day.'
'Have you seen him?' she said of her hunky hubby. '[Sex is] whatever time. Any time of the day. Whenever he wants it.'(o rly?)
On the flipside, she also talked about their infidelities, as the pair were both married when they started their affair while working on the 2009 film Northern Lights.
Eddie, 39, was married to Brandi, who now stars in Bravo reality show The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, and she to Dean Sheremet.
'I would be ignorant to say, and everyone else would think I am a liar if I didn’t say yes, and I have at times,' the singer said about her infidelity fears.
Two days after the gutsy interview aired - and the ensuing media storm - Brandi tweeted on Friday that she's happy to profit at LeAnn's expense.
article-2264889-170740B1000005DC-369_634x286

'Every time a certain someone' - clearly referring to LeAnn - 'does another interview my book pre-sale's sky rocket! Thankyou! #Career,' she posted.
Brandi's book, Drinking and Tweeting, is due out in February and, according to the publisher, offers a 'no holds-barred' look into her dramatic divorce and her 'inability to keep her mouth shut.'

article-2264686-1705AFFA000005DC-22_634x581

The pair have been locked in a bitter Twitter war, and LeAnn said in the interview that she is ready to put the feud behind her for the sake of Eddie and Brandi's children, Mason, nine and five-year-old Jake.
'I hope we can work it out. Life would be a lot calmer for everyone,' she said.
However, LeAnn then hit out at Brandi for attacking her on Twitter, accusing her rival of trying to get publicity.
'It's pretty ridiculous, it's a very one-sided war,' she said. 'The transparency is what's being used to actually continue her career with that tweet.'

Royal Post: Banished Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II Finally on Display

Screen Shot 2013-01-17 at 11.43.33 PM

The controversial painting was once banned from Liverpool town hall because it looked nothing like the Queen and her neck was "too long”. Embarrassed council chiefs ordered it to be hidden from public view in the vaults.

But now the artwork, which councillors have tried to hide for more than half a century, will hang in the city’s St George's Hall.

The painting was rejected when it was commissioned for the Queen's Coronation but has been salvaged to commemorate the event’s 60th anniversary.

Even the artist John Napper, who created it in 1952, famously said it was "a beautiful painting of a queen, but not this Queen".

Originally the Liverpool Corporation refused to hang it in the Town Hall. It hung briefly in the Walker Art Gallery instead, but has spent much of the last 61 years in storage.

But today, trustees at St George's Hall announced that the portrait will be permanently shown there to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

Liverpool's deputy Lord Mayor Gary Millar, a trustee of the hall, said: "We are very proud that Liverpool now has the original first painting hanging in St George's Hall, which has been rehung to celebrate the anniversary of the Queen's Coronation.

"It will be the first thing people will see if they come to get married or have a civil partnership or attend a citizenship ceremony."

The painting is Napper's second portrait of the Queen to be put on display in Liverpool.

After his first version was rejected by the council, he painted a second with a smaller neck, which was finally accepted by Liverpool town hall and still hangs there today.

Cllr Millar said: "It strengthens the link between the city's two civic buildings.

"The second version of the John Napper painting is hanging in the town hall and we have the original here.

“It is an honour for us to work with the friends of the hall, the staff there and the city council to rehang this beautiful painting."

The controversial portrait was unveiled just days after the Duchess of Cambridge's first official portrait by Paul Emsley was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery to mixed reviews from the art world.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: "We do not comment on any of the portraits of Her Majesty The Queen."

Mr Napper’s widow Pauline said today: “I remember the painting well. He was disappointed with the angle at which he painted it, he only had one sitting.

“I was due to be hung up high so that you would look at it from below. If you looked at it from that angle it looked normal.

“Then when they showed it they didn’t put it up high and then it didn’t look like the Queen.

Speaking from the home they once shared in Ludlow, Shropshire, she added: “It is a beautiful painting, obviously he would have been pleased that it is going on display. I am pleased too, it is a beautiful portrait.”

Mr Napper, who died in 2001 aged 84, painted both the Queen and Lady Churchill during the 1950s.

Michael Fassbender as you’ve never seen him before - alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson in 'Frank'

hopefully his face is hidden during the entire running time

You'll never guess who the man in the middle is so we won’t even make you try – it’s Michael Fassbender as you’ve never seen him, in character for his new role as the lead in a film called Frank, currently shooting in New Mexico.

That’s Maggie Gyllenhaal on one side of Fass, and fellow Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, son of Brendan, on the other. Frank, directed by Irishman Lenny Abrahamson, is a comedy loosely based on the life of English musician Chris Sievey, who also created a comic persona for himself by the name of Frank Sidebottom – complete with cartoonish face

Fassbender will appear with the funny face throughout the film, according to producer Ed Guiney.

"Michael is Michael after all, even with a fiberglass head on. He keeps the head on for all the scenes in the film. Everyone's just got used to it," Guiney told the Irish Independent from location in New Mexico, where filming started last Friday.

Entertainment.ie says Frank is about “a young wannabe musician called Jon (Gleeson) who finds himself a little out of his depth among a band of eccentric pop musicians led by the mysterious titular character, Frank (Fassbender).

The film’s budget is pegged at €5 million, and production will eventually shift to Ireland. (Fassbender was raised in Killarney, Co. Kerry by his Irish mother and German dad). It’s due for release later this year.

Laura Dern's Enlightened Q&A

0
0
Q/ Thank you Laura Dern for joining us today. What is your favorite part about playing Amy Jellicoe?

A/ Despite her complication, Amy is truthful, fearless, and willing to use her voice to make a difference and I love her for it.

Q/ Brilliantly powerful narrations last night. In an ideal situation, how long would you envision Amy's journey to tell her complete story?

A/ How many years you got? Amy is definitely the most entertaining character I've gotten to play. I think she can keep her story going in a very interesting way for a long time.

Q/ Who did your clubbin' look from season one?

A/ Team Amy! Makeup, hair, wardrobe...I loved the idea that Amy innocently wanted to fit in at a disco but tragically she hasn't been to one since 1992!

Q/ Hi Laura! Amy is so painfully real. Do you find it difficult sometimes to play her?

A/ Yes but in a wonderful way. It's been a journey of very big emotion and it's sort of hard to separate out from that when you're in it.

Q/ Will Amy ever branch out and find a place to live without her mom? I love Diane Ladd so much but I also feel like she's her own character.

A/ I mean God I hope so, but I feel she may be stuck there for a while. Maybe we can build her a room off the pool area so she at least isn't living 3 feet from her mother at all times.

Q/ What was the funniest thing that ever happened to you?

A/ When I was 12 my dog got her period on Scott Baio, need I say more?

Q/ you have worked with spielberg, david lynch, clint eastwood and now PTA. What director you wish to work with in the future?

A/ I've worked with Jonathan Demme and Alexander Payne before and I hope to again. Also, I would love to get to add Quentin Tarantino to this list . Of the directors you've mentioned, all of them again and again, I pray.

Q/ Laura, I love you in Lynch's avant-garde films, do you have any future plans with him? How about your legendary mother?

A/ I hope I will be working with David for the rest of my life and, yes, we have upcoming plans. Enlightened has offered the thrilling privilege to work with my mom in the longterm, which is pure bliss. Sure hope to work with my dad at some point, as well.

Q/ Do you and Mike White incorporate your beliefs about spirituality into the show?

A/ I would think that what we're incorporating are our questions and our longing for spiritual connection, more than a specific belief system.

Q/ How has Amy changed from Season 1?

A/ Amy has had incremental growth. And, perhaps, this season her greatest flaw will also be her greatest gift...which means harnessing deep emotion for a greater cause. Still complicated, but useful. I find this dynamic very human.

Q/ Hi Laura, Is Amy going to explore new love interests instead of trying to fix her ex??

A/ You're a very intuitive viewer. I think we won't let you down.

Q/ Hi Laura! My reality is SO SIMILAR to Amy's life in season one. I am an idealist who feels stuck right now. What advice would Amy give me?

A/ Amy would say "get unstuck!" She might advise (for better or for worse that you should feel everything you're feeling, consider yourself first and be true to that voice deep inside that's been waiting to come out. And Amy wouldn't be worried about wether or not other people want to hear it...that's the challenging part!

Q/ Hi! I was wondering about the books Amy reads on the show. Are they actually published or are they just "props" with appropriate titles? In any case, did you read any of them (or something similar) in order to prepare for the character? Thanks, Love the show!

A/ THANK YOU! Keep watching. Yes I read many books to prepare, self-help and political whistle-blower books...but on the show there are many prop books as well as several classic and important books in these arenas like "Rules for Radicals." That was always on Amy's desk.

Q/ Your and your mother's dynamic on screen is so vital, so authentic; is it ever scary - the blurred lines of character and your real selves?

A/ For sure in any character an actor portrays, the lines can get very blurred and you must be willing to risk a lot in order to expose a lot perhaps. When it comes to mom and I, our relationship is so different, in real life that playing out this dynamic between Amy and Helen, is only a delicious experiment!

Q/ did any of this character come from talks or experiences you had with Marianne Williamson? I love this show!

A/ Well I love Marianne, she is a teacher and was a roommate. So If I'm lucky, some pearls of wisdom have rubbed off to influence my character.

Q/ How would Amy...define happiness?

A/ Everyone being exactly how she'd like them to be! And perhaps feeling a little less about things for herself.

Q/ Do you take great pains with acting and writing to make your character still sweet and hopeful and not bitter? Your show lifts my spirits!

A/ I'm so happy to hear that. We like the idea of reflecting on how we wake up everyday with the intent to perhaps do a little bit better or to feel a little more hopeful. And maybe by the end of the day, we've blown it entirely but the gift of life is that we get a whole new day tomorrow to try again. It's a good thing Amy has amnesia.

Q/ Laura, in "the weekend" Amy wonders why she always wakes up as herself and no one else. If Amy could, who else would she be for a day?

A/ Well, if Amy was doing the choosing, she might pick Levi so I'm hopeful I can do the choosing for her. I'd like her to be Gloria Steinham for a day, I think it would be healthier.

Q/ When creating the show, did you plan to make the supporting characters so central and strong to the story? Or was Amy the main focus?

A/ As we started, Amy was the main focus. But she has such an impact on the people around her, for better or for worse and so as she makes more happen, it impacts more people and hopefully gives room for a more rounded story.

Q/ AGENTS OF CHANGE are often seen as the proverbial yellow dress amongst a sea of black suits. They stand out. Are often shunned…ridiculed and shut out. When the red tape is now a big red wall of delay and inaction in seeking justice and change, how stay strong…stay positive…refrain from feeling defeated?...dead?...deflated? [see S1:E1 – during Regina Spektor’s Human of the Year song to understand the yellow dress/black suit analogy more clear]

A/ What an insightful and poetic question! I feel you have summarized the question the show really asks. We may not have answers on who will be brave enough to do it, how they will do it, but we consider the idea that perhaps it takes someone who yes is boundaryless, yes cares little about what others think, and perhaps feels more deeply than most about the state of the world but in the end, the truth seeker will demand justice and our future is in the balance of Amy.

Q/ Can you give us a hint of what’s in store for Amy this season?

A/ Amy will use her voice without awareness of boundaries and we will probably watch with glee and periodic horror. I find her an uncomfortable hero, just my kind.

Q/ What are some of your favorite movies?

A/ This year, two documentaries "The Gatekeepers" and "Searching for Sugarman." Movies this year I loved were "Amor" "Lincoln" and "Silver Linings Playbook." These are only a few! Its been an exciting year for whistleblowers in cinema and TV!

Q/ That's all the time we have for today's Q&A with Laura Dern. Laura, is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans before we go?

A/ Thank you all for your support and your love of Amy and the show. I'm so excited for everyone to see Season 2 unfold. It was great to connect with everyone today.
